​ Mladá Boleslav, 12 May 2017 – Shortly before its world premiere, the Czech car manufacturer provides a first look at the new compact SUV ŠKODA KAROQ. ŠKODA’s new, emotive and dynamic SUV design language is easily recognisable. The ŠKODA KAROQ has a striking character and features crystalline elements that demonstrate power and robustness as well as elegance. The larger dimensions significantly enhance the ride comfort for the occupants and add to the boot’s capacity.

​The new ŠKODA KAROQ’s emotive and dynamic design with numerous crystalline elements is a true representation of the new ŠKODA design language. The front section captivates with a striking, three-dimensional design. The radiator grille, framed by a chrome trim, has vertical double slats and creates the trapezoidal cross section that is typical of ŠKODA SUVs.

The design of the headlights is inspired by the rich traditions of Bohemian glass art. The crystalline cut of the full-LED headlights and the eight light strips that make up the ‘eyelashes’ create a unique lighting pattern. The large ŠKODA logo takes pride of place on the bonnet.

LED technology is also used for the tail lights. The tail lighting with LED technology includes the rear lights, brake lights and fog lights. The design concept also features narrow, raked tail lights, the outer segment of which is embedded in the side frames, while the inner segment is integrated into the tailgate. The tail lights form the ŠKODA-typical ‘C’ shape.

The compact SUV is 4,382 mm long, 1,841 mm wide and 1,605 mm high. The long wheelbase measuring 2,638 mm (all-wheel-drive version: 2,630 mm) gives the ŠKODA KAROQ a comfortable stance on the road and provides an indication of the generously proportioned interior.

The ŠKODA brand represents an exceptional overall package. The new ŠKODA KAROQ is no exception. The boot has a capacity of 521 l with the rear seats in place. This increases to 1,630 l with the rear seats folded down. In combination with the optional VarioFlex rear seats, the boot space is variable and can hold between 479 and 588 l.

The VarioFlex system consists of three separate rear seats, that can be adjusted and completely removed individually –turning the SUV into a van with a maximum loading capacity of 1,810 l.

The interior exhibits newly designed dashboard divided into a tall upper and narrow lower section – a separation that is particularly noticeable in the large decorative areas on the passenger side. The door trims continue this design approach.

Bold vertical elements influence the ŠKODA KAROQ’s design. The four large air vents sit vertically, and the middle two flank the in-car monitor. The LED ambient lighting is a further highlight in the generously sized interior. Ultra-slim lighting strips are located on the upper edge of the four door trims and continue around the dashboard. The driver can control the brightness of the illumination, which can be set to one of ten different colours.

As part of the ŠKODA 2025 future strategy, the brand will be rigorously pushing the expansion of its model range in the coming years. The focus will be on expanding the SUV portfolio in particular. With the launch of the ŠKODA KODIAQ, a new large SUV was introduced to the international markets only recently. With the introduction of the ŠKODA KAROQ, the company is now setting the next milestone. The new compact SUV will be celebrating its world premiere on 18 May in Stockholm. Its market launch will follow in the second half of 2017.

​Mladá Boleslav / Stockholm, 18 May 2017 – The ŠKODA KAROQ is a completely new compact SUV from the long-standing Czech brand. The emotive and dynamic design with numerous crystalline elements characterises ŠKODA’s new SUV design language. As a true ŠKODA, the ŠKODA KAROQ offers exceptional space, new driver-assistance systems, full LED headlights and – for the first time in a ŠKODA – a digital instrument panel. Five engine variants are available from 85 kW (115 PS) to 140 kW (190 PS), of which four are new. Typical of ŠKODA are smart ideas for the brand’s new compact SUV which include features such as the rear-seat VarioFlex system and the virtual pedal for the hands-free opening of the boot. Particularly long items can be comfortably transported in the interior of the compact SUV – this is made possible by the folding front passenger seat.

​It is clear from the exterior shape, modified lines and larger dimensions that this is a completely new vehicle. The ŠKODA KAROQ is a sports utility vehicle with character: The emotive and dynamic design with numerous crystalline elements characterises ŠKODA’s new SUV design language.

The compact SUV measures 4,382 mm in length, is 1,841 mm wide, and 1,605 mm high. The increase in size benefits the passengers. The kneeroom is 69 mm. The long wheelbase of 2,638 mm (all-wheel version: 2,630 mm) gives the ŠKODA KAROQ a comfortable stance on the road and provides an indication of the generously proportioned interior.

The ŠKODA brand stands for an exceptional package. This also applies to the new KAROQ. The luggage compartment has a capacity of 521 l with the rear seats in place. With the rear seats folded down, the volume increases to 1,630 l. The VarioFlex system consists of three separate seats, which can be individually adjusted and the seats can also be completely removed – and the SUV is then converted into a van with a maximum load capacity of 1,810 liters.

Segment leader: connectivity solutions

The ŠKODA KAROQ is at the top of its segment with innovative connectivity solutions. The infotainment building blocks come from the second generation of the Group’s Modular Infotainment Matrix, offering state-of-the-art functions, interfaces and equipped with capacitive touch displays. The top systems Columbus and Amundsen have a Wi-Fi hotspot. An optional LTE module is available for the Columbus system. The Internet connection is based on today’s fastest mobile radio standard, with which passengers can surf and access email freely with their phones and tablets.

The new mobile online services ŠKODA Connect are divided into two categories: Infotainment online services are used for information and navigation; the CareConnect services for assistance in case of breakdowns and emergencies. The Emergency Call button, which will be part of the standard equipment in Europe from 2018, is now available as an optional CareConnect service. Additional online services can be accessed via the ŠKODA Connect app. These can be used to remotely check, configure and find the parking place of your car using a smartphone.

The intelligent capability of pairing a car with a smartphone has reached a new level in the ŠKODA KAROQ. The SmartLink+ platform, compatible with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and MirrorLinkTM, is available as an option for the basic infotainment system Swing. SmartLink+ comes as standard with higher infotainment systems. The Phonebox with inductive charging couples the smartphone to the roof antenna and simultaneously charges it wirelessly.

Reliable helpers: driver assistance systems

The ŠKODA KAROQ offers a comprehensive range of driver assistance systems. New comfort systems include Park Assist, Lane Assist and Traffic Jam Assist. Blind Spot Detect, Front Assist with predictive pedestrian protection and Emergency Assist serve to increase safety.

Additional driver assistance systems are available for the ŠKODA KAROQ to keep the car at a safe distance from the car ahead, to make it easier for the driver to change and keep in lane, to point out important traffic signs, and to assist when parking.

The freely programmable digital instrument panel is available for the first time in a ŠKODA. In the ŠKODA KAROQ, the cockpit displays can be set to the driver’s individual preferences.

Full-LED headlights with clear-lens optics are available as an option for the ŠKODA KAROQ from the Ambition trim level upwards. In the interior, new LED ambient lighting in the decorative door trims and the dashboard creates a pleasant atmosphere, which can be set to one of ten colours.

Powerful and agile: engines and chassis

The ŠKODA KAROQ offers state-of-the-art technologies for engines. Five engine variants – two petrol and three diesel engines – are on offer. The two petrol engines and two diesels are new in the line-up. The displacement ranges are 1.0, 1.5, 1.6 and 2.0 l; the power range is from 85 kW (115 PS) to 140 kW (190 PS). All powertrains feature turbo-charged direct injection units as well as start -stop- technology and brake energy recovery. They are extremely efficient and comply with EU 6 regulations. With the exception of the most powerful diesel, all drivetrains can be ordered with a 6-speed manual gearbox or 7-speed DSG. The 2.0 TDI with 140 kW (190 PS) comes as standard with 4×4 drive and 7-speed DSG. The new 1.5 TSI has the special feature of cylinder deactivation.

The ŠKODA KAROQ chassis also sets benchmarks in its segment and demonstrates its quality, even off the beaten track. From the Ambition trim level upwards, Driving Mode Select with the Normal, Sport, Eco, Individual and Snow (4x4) modes is available on request. The Off-Road mode with all-wheel drive improves the driving characteristics on rough terrain.

2025 Strategy: ŠKODA drives SUV campaign forward

As part of ŠKODA’s 2025 Strategy, the brand will be continually expanding its model range over the coming years. The primary focus will be on broadening the SUV range. Most recently, the ŠKODA KODIAQ became the brand’s first large SUV to be launched in the international markets. With the ŠKODA KAROQ, the company has now reached the next milestone. The new compact SUV market launch is set for the second half of 2017.

​Mladá Boleslav, 26 May 2017 – ŠKODA upgrades the flagship of its model range. From the end of May 2017 the ŠKODA SUPERB and ŠKODA SUPERB COMBI will be rolled out with numerous innovations. These includes automatic emergency call as additional security - and comfort features, and extended connectivity solutions.

​Care Connect with automatic emergency call
With the new model year, the ŠKODA SUPERB limousine and ŠKODA SUPERB COMBI comes with Care Connect as a standard from the equipment version Ambition – regardless of the choice of infotainment system.

The most important feature of the Care Connect is the automatic emergency call, which is activated following an accident if a restraint system has been triggered. The vehicle establishes a voice and data connection to an emergency call centre and transmits all the necessary data. The emergency call can also be initiated manually via a button in the roof module.

In addition, remote access to the vehicle is now possible via the ŠKODA Connect App. The smartphone can inform the driver, among other things, whether the windows and doors are closed or the lights are off. The parking position function shows the location of the vehicle, the "Honk & Flash" function makes it easier to find the car by activating the horn and hazard lights.

Infotainment: 9.2" screen in the glass design and SmartLink
Numerous functions can now be operated with optimised infotainment systems for the ŠKODA SUPERB. The display of the Columbus navigation system has grown from 8 to 9.2 inches and the system Swing from 5 to 6.5 inches. In addition, the glass design enhances the high-resolution displays.

With the SmartLink+ system on board, the ŠKODA SUPERB now offers additional possibilities for networking between the vehicle and smartphone. SmartLink+ brings navigation, infotainment and communication apps from the mobile phone into the car and also provides vehicle data for the evaluation on the smartphone.

Driver assistance systems: Park Distance Control
ŠKODA SUPERB is helping to avoid dents while parking. This is ensured by the Park Distance Control system with extended function Manoeuvre Assist, which now also detects obstacles in front of the vehicle. The system not only warns the driver with optical and acoustic signals but also brakes the vehicle automatically if necessary.

Driver´s seat with a massage function, improved communication climate and noise level
As a comfortable travelling vehicle for the whole family, the character of the ŠKODA SUPERB has been further strengthened with new equipment features. The optional massage function for the driver's seat, which is available with the electrically adjustable variant, including ventilation and memory function, ensures increased comfort on long distances. Also the communication among occupants is improved with Digital Voice Enhancement, which transmits the driver's and front passenger's voice to the passengers in the rear via a microphone in the cockpit. Additional improvements also contribute to lower noise levels - the front side windows are newly available with an acoustic film between the two glass surfaces.

The new design of the 19-inch light-alloy Acamar rims underscores the elegant appearance of the Czech top model. In addition, the revised ŠKODA SUPERB can be ordered later this year in a new elegant car body metallic colour Velvet Red.

Chrome strips on side buffers and doors and a black interior ceiling will be available for the L&K equipment version making the refined top version of ŠKODA’s flagship even more impressive from the end of May 2017.

ŠKODA KODIAQ receives 5-Star Euro NCAP overall safety rating

​› Adult protection rated at 92 percent

​Mladá Boleslav, 31 May 2017 – The ŠKODA KODIAQ has achieved the maximum rating for safety. The European New Car Assessment Programme (Euro NCAP) has awarded the Czech manufacturer’s large SUV the highest possible rating of five stars, thereby certifying that the ŠKODA KODIAQ offers optimum protection for all those on board. Occupant protection for adults and children, pedestrian protection and safety assistance systems are all assessed in the Euro NCAP test. After the ŠKODA models OCTAVIA, FABIA, RAPID, CITIGO, YETI and SUPERB, the KODIAQ is the seventh model produced by the long-established Czech manufacturer to have been awarded the maximum safety rating. The 5-star rating reflects the high standard of the safety systems developed by ŠKODA.

​“Euro NCAP is one of the most demanding safety tests. We are therefore proud to have achieved the best result," says Christian Strube, ŠKODA Board Member for Technical Development. "The ŠKODA KODIAQ has a long list of innovative technologies and clever solutions on the board. We have increased the passive safety, despite the body shape itself making a major contribution to the safety. In addition, we have expanded the advanced assistance systems so that accidents can be avoided to an even greater extent."

Euro NCAP awarded an excellent rating of 92 percent for occupant protection of adult passengers. In the side-barrier collision test, the ŠKODA KODIAQ even achieved full marks for good protection of all vulnerable areas of the body at a risk of injury. The high degree of protection for the cervical spine in the event of a rear-impact collision was also praised. Euro NCAP particularly mentioned the good operation of the standard emergency brake system, which works well at low speeds – as is typical when driving in the city – and also prevents almost all collisions at motorway speeds. As well as protecting its occupants, the ŠKODA KODIAQ also protects pedestrians. Euro NCAP awarded maximum points for the protection to pedestrians’ legs that the bumper offers. Good ratings were also given for pelvis and good or adequate protection for a large proportion of the head area.

The safety equipment of the ŠKODA KODIAQ leaves nothing to be desired. The car’s enormously rigid body with up to 9 airbags provide excellent protection in the event of an accident, with a driver and front-seat passenger airbags, side airbags in the front, curtain airbags, driver´s knee airbag and side airbags in the rear. Alongside part of the standard equipment are three-point seat belts with belt tensioners and the ISOFIX system for attaching children´s seats at the rear seats. Functions also include automatic activation of the hazard lights in the event of emergency braking, automatic door unlocking and activation of the warning hazard lights and interruption of the fuel supply in the event of a collision. If a collision is imminent, the proactive occupant protection system Crew Protect Assist closes the windows and sunroof, and tensions the front seat belts. Following an accident, Multi-Collision Brake prevents the car from continuing to travel in an uncontrolled manner.

In addition, the ŠKODA KODIAQ is fitted with numerous cameras as well as radar- and sensor-based systems. The Front Assist feature including City Emergency Brake and the Pedestrian Monitor helps to prevent accidents involving pedestrians. The four cameras of the Area-View system show what is happening in the area directly surrounding the SUV. The Manoeuvre Assist and Rear Traffic Alert systems provide assistance when visibility is restricted and warn of hidden dangers.

With Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Assist, Blind Spot Detect, Emergency Assist, Traffic Jam Assist and Traffic Sign Recognition, ŠKODA offers further important safety assistance systems. Driver Alert is no exception. The fatigue detection system monitors the driver’s behaviour and warns the driver if it detects fatigue.

Euro NCAP is an association of European transport ministries, automobile clubs and insurance federations based in Belgium. It carries out crash tests with current car models and then rates the safety of the car based on the safety systems available. Euro NCAP was founded in 1997. During its initial period, the association assessed only crash tests.  Now the rating of the active safety systems is also evaluated in the overall rating.

ŠKODA OCTAVIA RS 245: sporty, spacious and practical – the family sportster that delivers 245 PS

​Mladá Boleslav / Rome, 5 June 2017 – It is the most powerful and most dynamic ŠKODA OCTAVIA in the company’s history – the new ŠKODA OCTAVIA RS 245. The bestselling range’s sporty top model delivers 180 kW (245 PS) – 11 kW (15 PS) more than the previous most powerful RS variant, the ŠKODA OCTAVIA RS 230. The powerful engine and innovative chassis technology, including an electronically regulated VAQ limited-slip differential, offer the ultimate driving experience. The sportster is available as a hatchback or a Combi. The compact sports car accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 6.6 seconds (Combi: 6.7 seconds); its top speed is limited to 250 km/h. As is usual for a ŠKODA, the car features a spacious interior and boot. In addition, the latest driver assistance systems are also available for the ŠKODA OCTAVIA RS 245. Using the infotainment system, the occupants can be ‘always online’ thanks to the Wi-Fi hotspot and LTE module. Numerous ‘Simply Clever’ features demonstrate the practical talents of this powerful compact car. The overall package is unique in the compact sports car segment.


The ŠKODA OCTAVIA RS 245 features the new face of the brand with particularly sporty details. The radiator grille’s vertical slats as well as its frame both come in a gloss-black finish. The bumper is designed with a particularly bold horizontal line, has broad honeycomb air inlets and contributes to the car’s wide and sculptured impression. The redesigned headlight clusters in a crystalline look feature full-LED technology and the AFS adaptive front light system as standard. The fog lights, tail lights and number plate illumination also feature LED technology as well as a crystalline appearance.

The housings of the electrically adjustable wing mirrors, featuring a memory function and puddle lights – which illuminate the surrounding area when getting in and out of the car – are presented in a sporty black finish. The radiator grille and the tailgate both sport the RS logo featuring a gloss-black ‘V’ (for victory). Features such as the spoiler at the rear of the hatchback or roof spoiler on the Combi are further elements of the car’s emotive and dynamic design. The ŠKODA OCTAVIA RS 245 can also be recognised as a high-performance sportster acoustically thanks to the throaty sound of its exhaust system. In keeping with the rest of the exterior, the trapezoid tailpipe trims are painted in gloss black.

With the ŠKODA OCTAVIA COMBI RS 245, the roofline gently slopes towards the rear and elegantly merges with the D-pillar. The finishing touches are provided by a spoiler lip (for the hatchback) and a roof spoiler (for the Combi). The rear light clusters create the impression of being embedded while LEDs fulfil almost all of the lighting functions. The brand-typical C-shaped tail lights have the appearance of homogeneous lighting surfaces. Contours incorporated into the lights ensure better aerodynamics, leading to a drag coefficient of 0.303 for the hatchback and 0.319 for the Combi.

Both the hatchback and the Combi are 4,689 mm long. The vehicles are 1,814 mm wide, and the hatchback’s height is 1.448 Milimeter, the Combi’s height is 1.452 Milimeter.At 2,680 mm, the wheelbase is unusually long for this vehicle segment. From these outer dimensions, ŠKODA engineers have created an interior that far exceeds the dimensions usually found in this segment and thereby provided a large amount of space.

These generous dimensions make the RS 245 models genuine family sportsters. The width of the loading floor – 1,010 mm in both the hatchback and the Combi – makes it easier to transport especially bulky items. The hatchback’s boot is also particularly generously sized: 590 l (1,580 l with the rear seats folded down). In the Combi, it is as high as 610 l (1,740 l with the rear seats folded down). Figures which even vehicles from higher segments only rarely reach.

The ŠKODA OCTAVIA RS 245 and ŠKODA OCTAVIA COMBI RS 245 are available in a choice of four body colours: Corrida Red, Moon White, Magic Black and Steel Grey.

Interior with Alcantara® sport seats

The predominantly black interior of the ŠKODA OCTAVIA RS 245 and ŠKODA OCTAVIA COMBI RS 245 impresses not only with its generous dimensions and great clarity, but also with its high-quality materials. With their high sides and integrated headrests, the Alcantara® sports seats provide maximum support in fast corners. The front seats bear the RS logo – as do the front door sills. The driver’s seat features red or grey topstitching, is electrically adjustable, offers lumbar support and has a memory function which saves three seat positions.

The multifunction sports steering wheel with perforated leather and integrated steering wheel paddles (for DSG transmissions) matches the car’s dynamic ambience. The radio and telephone (Bluetooth) can be operated from the optionally heated steering wheel. A colour Maxi-DOT display forms part of the instrument cluster. The LED ambient lighting bathes the interior in atmospheric light that can be set to one of ten various colours.

Drive and chassis – a lot of power, low consumption

Under the bonnet of the ŠKODA OCTAVIA family’s sporty top model beats a 180 kW (245 PS) four cylinder TSI petrol engine. It offers 11 kW (15 PS) more than the most powerful variant of the current RS model. Maximum torque of 370 Nm is achieved between 1,600 and 4,300 rpm. There is a choice of a 6-speed manual gearbox or – for the first time in a ŠKODA OCTAVIA – a 7-speed, dual-clutch transmission. From a standing start, the hatchback hits the 100 km/h mark in 6.6 seconds, the Combi takes 6.7 seconds. The top speed is electronically limited to 250 km/h, making the ŠKODA OCTAVIA RS 245 the fastest and most powerful OCTAVIA ever.

Yet the average fuel consumption when combined with a 7-speed DSG transmission is just 6.4 l per 100 km (6.6 l with a 6-speed manual gearbox), with CO2 emissions of 146 and 150 g/km respectively.

The acceleration is particularly impressive. In fifth gear, the ŠKODA OCTAVIA RS 245 with a manual gearbox sprints from 60 to 100 km/h in just 6.4 seconds (Combi: 6.5 seconds) and from 80 to 120 km/h in only 6.6 seconds (Combi: 6.8 seconds) – a reassuring safety cushion.

Compared to the ‘normal’ models in the range, the sports chassis lowers the body of the ŠKODA OCTAVIA RS 245 by 15 mm. Its rear track is 30 mm wider than that of the ŠKODA OCTAVIA RS 230 predecessor. The standard, burnished gloss-black alloy wheels are 19 inches in diameter.

The ESC stability system with Sport mode is also part of the standard equipment, as is the driven wheels’ electronically regulated VAQ limited-slip differential. This provides for particularly dynamic acceleration when exiting corners. The technology, that was originally developed for motorsport, works with an electronically regulated multi-plate clutch that is located between the differential and the powered axle on the right-hand side. As and when it is needed, 100 per cent of the power can be directed to one front wheel. When cornering, the differential transfers an increased amount of engine power to the outer front wheel – i.e. to the wheel with the most grip – as required. The risk of understeering during acceleration is significantly reduced.

Performance Mode Select with the Performance Sound Generator function enables individual adjustment of drive, chassis and comfort settings. The dynamic character of the ŠKODA OCTAVIA RS 245 is additionally highlighted by the car’s progressive steering and the optional adaptive Dynamic Chassis Control (DCC).

Electrically operated valves adjust the dampers’ settings. The driver has access to three modes to do this: Comfort, Standard and Sport. In addition, DCC contributes to increased active safety by automatically switching to Sport mode when cornering in a particularly dynamic manner and, in doing so, ensures greater stability, better traction and shorter braking distances.

With Driving Mode Select, the driver can change the steering characteristics, the operation of the DSG transmission, and the settings of other systems in the Normal, Eco, Sport and Individual modes. The individual preferences are saved on the optionally available, personalisable keys. These also store further individual settings such as those for the Climatronic and audio systems as well as seat position, and apply them automatically.

Driver assistance systems that are otherwise only seen in higher segments
Front Assist including the City Emergency Brake function with Predictive Pedestrian Protection helps to prevent accidents in city traffic. With the help of a radar sensor, the system can recognise critical situations occurring in front of the vehicle.

In addition, the car comes with the following safety system as standard or as optional extras:

Blind Spot Detect. With this, two radar sensors at the rear monitor traffic behind the vehicle.

Blind Spot Detect also includes Rear Traffic Alert. Using the same rear radar sensors, this system makes reversing out of bay parking spaces and drives safer.

The radar-based Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) maintains the desired gap from the vehicle in front at a preset speed by automatically braking or accelerating. The radar sensor in the radiator grille works at speeds between 30 and 210 km/h.

Lane Assist helps the driver to stay in lane by warning the driver via the multifunction display or gently adjusting the steering where necessary. The system assists the driver at speeds above 65 km/h.

The Driver Alert fatigue detection system recognises when the driver’s concentration is waning. For this purpose, the system transfers information about steering wheel movements to the control unit. If necessary, the system prompts the driver to take a break.

If an accident is imminent, the proactive occupant protection system Crew Protect Assist is activated: this system closes the windows and sunroof (leaving a small gap) to prevent passengers from being thrown out of an open window, prevents foreign bodies from getting into the interior of the vehicle, and tensions the seat belts for the driver and front passenger. Crew Protect Assist works in conjunction with Front Assist. In the event of an accident, the Multi-Collision Brake, which comes as standard, prevents the car from rolling any further in an uncontrolled manner. In addition, the hazard and brake lights are activated.

The camera-based Travel Assist with Traffic Sign Recognition displays speed limits and other road signs as images on the in-car computer as well as on the navigation system’s screen.

Manoeuvre Assist, which is also new, helps when driving in and out of parking spaces: it applies the vehicle’s brakes as soon as it detects an obstacle.

Park Assist 3.0 automatically steers the vehicle into parallel parking spaces and spaces perpendicular to the road. The system can be activated at speeds of up to 40 km/h for the recognition of parallel parking spaces and at up to 20 km/h for bay parking spaces.

The optional Trailer Assist function prevents incidents when reversing with a trailer.

Hill-Hold Control helps the driver when performing a hill start. The system is activated on inclines of five per cent and above and allows for relaxed and safe hill starts without using the handbrake.

High Beam Assist rounds off the programme. In darkness and when the speed exceeds 60 km/h, the sensor recognises vehicles ahead (at a distance of up to 400 m) as well as oncoming traffic (up to 1,000 m) and dips the beam when required.

The comprehensive package of restraint features remains unchanged in the revised model range. Five three-point seat belts working in complete harmony with up to nine airbags ensure maximum safety on board. Child seats can be secured using Isofix (as an option, also available for the front passenger seat) and top tether anchor points. Tyre pressure monitoring remains a standard feature in all model variants.

In the Euro NCAP crash test, the ŠKODA OCTAVIA achieved in 2013 the top mark of five stars for occupant safety, top values of 93 per cent for adult protection and 86 per cent with children on board.

Infotainment systems ensure protection and entertainment
Safety and entertainment is provided by the new infotainment systems. Four hardware components are available: the Swing (standard) and Bolero music systems as well as the Amundsen and Columbus navigation infotainment systems. In the ŠKODA OCTAVIA RS 245, they display a digital start screen. The capacitive touch displays react to the lightest of touches. The displays of the optional Bolero, Amundsen and Columbus infotainment systems with their new glass design refine the high-quality dashboard even further.

The Columbus navigation system is at the top of the range. Its 9.2-inch screen provides a resolution of 1,280 × 640 pixels. There is also a 64-GB flash memory, a DVD drive and an optional LTE module, which supplies the occupants with high-speed Internet (download at up to 150 Mbit per second). 

The occupants can be ‘always online’. The Infotainment Online services are provided free of charge for the first year for the Amundsen and Columbus navigation infotainment systems. In the Amundsen system, they work via the user’s smartphone, which is paired with the system, or a data stick. In the Columbus system, they work via the user’s smartphone or an inserted customer SIM card with high-speed LTE.

ŠKODA Connect – mobile online services set benchmarks
The mobile online services from ŠKODA Connect ideally complement the infotainment offering. They take navigation, information, entertainment and assistance to a new level and are divided into two categories:

› The newly available Infotainment Online services for information and entertainment.
› Care Connect services for driver assistance and remote vehicle access.

One of the highlights of the Infotainment Online services is Online Traffic Information, which transfers traffic flow on the selected route to the car in real time and suggests alternative routes in the event of a traffic jam. The petrol station service lists petrol stations (including fuel prices) along a selected route. The Parking Spaces, News, and Weather services provide further tailored information.

The automatic Emergency Call is optional : if a restraint system has been activated following an accident, the system establishes a voice and data connection to a dedicated emergency call centre.

There is also an info function and a Breakdown Call. The ‘i’ button in the roof module enables the driver to contact an expert in the customer call centre, in order to have technical questions answered, for example. In the event of a breakdown, help can be organised using the breakdown button.

When a customer activates the Proactive Service feature, their dealership contacts them when a service is due to arrange a convenient appointment. In addition, service-relevant vehicle data can be transferred to the ŠKODA garage.

Additional online services can be accessed on a smartphone using the ŠKODA Connect app. Have the lights been switched off, are the doors locked, the windows and sunroof closed? The driver can view this information remotely, at any time. The same applies to the fuel level and the resulting vehicle range. It is also possible to display the vehicle’s current parking location on a smartphone. Don’t want the car to leave a predefined area or exceed 130 km/h? The Area Notification, Online Anti-Theft Alarm and Speed Notification functions inform the owner if this occurs against their wishes.

The Care Connect services are available free of charge in the first year after the purchase of a ŠKODA OCTAVIA RS 245 or ŠKODA OCTAVIA COMBI RS 245. The Remote Access services then incur a charge whilst all other Care Connect services remain free for another 13 years. The data is transferred via a SIM card that is installed in the vehicle.

A wealth of ‘Simply Clever’ features
ŠKODA is known for its many practical solutions. The ŠKODA OCTAVIA RS 245 and ŠKODA OCTAVIA COMBI RS 245 come with several useful features.

Here is just a selection of them:
› Bottle holder in the centre console makes it possible to open PET bottles with one hand.
› Heated steering wheel
› Two USB ports in the rear
› The Phonebox in the centre console charges a smartphone inductively

ŠKODA Motorsport
ŠKODA used the abbreviation RS for the first time in motorsport in 1974. The ŠKODA 180 RS and 200 RS rally cars are considered to be the ‘original RS’ cars. The ŠKODA 130 RS is a legendary racing car, having been one of the most successful motorsport cars of its time from its category in the 1970s and 1980s. The RS initials denote ŠKODA’s successes in motorsport as well as the high performance and passion represented by the brand. In 2000, the synonym for sportiness entered the ŠKODA model range. This marked the beginning of a success story.

ŠKODA Motorsport’s roots reach as far back as 1901. In 1901, Narcis Podsedníček entered the race from Paris to Berlin for the first time with an L&K motorcycle made by ŠKODA’s founding fathers Laurin and Klement. What had begun in 1901 on two wheels, continued in the 1970s and ‘80s with a worldwide series of victories on race tracks and rally courses, finally reaching the latest pinnacle in 2016 with Esapekka Lappi and Janne Ferm, both from Finland, winning the FIA World Rally Championship (WRC 2) in a ŠKODA FABIA R5. These successes are the result of ŠKODA’s consistent involvement in motorsport.

The ŠKODA FABIA R5 is the most successful rally car in its category by a long stretch. It was officially approved (homologated) for motorsport by the FIA International Automobile Federation on 12 April 2015. In its first season, it was already recording successes all over the world, but 2016 eclipsed all previous records of success: Finns Esapekka Lappi and Janne Ferm took the title for the Czech manufacturer for the first time in the FIA World Rally Championship (WRC 2). A total of 10 events in the World Championship season were won in a ŠKODA FABIA R5. In addition, ŠKODA drivers Gustavo Saba from Paraguay and Gaurav Gill from India won the continental championships in South America and the Asia-Pacific region respectively – also in a ŠKODA FABIA R5. The Qatari driver Nasser Al-Attiyah could not be beaten to the Middle East Rally Championship (MERC). Ten national titles were added to this. 2016 was by far the most successful year in ŠKODA Motorsport’s 116-year history.

The successful team engagement was also a catalyst for ever-increasing customer interest: to date, over 130 ŠKODA FABIA R5s have been sold to privateer teams and importers around the world.

The ŠKODA brand achieved a fantastic start to the 2017 season: in the first five rallies of the World Championship, the winning team was driving a ŠKODA FABIA R5. At the end of April, ŠKODA teams were at the top in 18 international and national championships.

ŠKODA achieves record results in May

​› Sales: ŠKODA delivers 99,000 vehicles to customers in May (+ 2.4%); Best May of all time

​Mladá Boleslav, 14 June 2017 – ŠKODA’s deliveries increased by 2.4% to 99,000 units in May (May 2016: 96,700 vehicles), making it the best May in the company’s history. The traditional Czech brand made significant gains particularly in Europe and India. ŠKODA promises further growth impetus from the current SUV campaign: The ŠKODA KODIAQ – the brand’s first new SUV model – has been successfully launched on the markets; 7500 units were delivered to customers in May. The new compact ŠKODA KAROQ SUV, which was presented to the public for the first time in Stockholm in May, will follow in the fourth quarter of 2017.

​“ŠKODA continued along the path to success in May,” says Werner Eichhorn, ŠKODA Board Member for Sales and Marketing. “Despite the challenging market conditions in some regions, we were able to sell more vehicles last month than in any May in our history. We are particularly pleased with the successful market launch of the ŠKODA KODIAQ. The first vehicle of our SUV campaign has been very well received by our customers.”

ŠKODA is expanding its model range through a comprehensive SUV campaign as part of Strategy 2025. The first representative is the ŠKODA KODIAQ, 17,100 of which have already been delivered since its market launch in March 2017. 7500 of the brand’s first large SUV were delivered in May alone, confirming the steadily growing demand. The ŠKODA KAROQ will further strengthen the brand's position in the important SUV segment. The new compact SUV was introduced in Stockholm in May. More than a million spectators watched the world premiere via live stream. The market launch of ŠKODA KAROQ will take place at the end of this year.

In Western Europe, ŠKODA surpassed last year’s result in May with 42,800 deliveries (+4.1%) (May 2016: 41,100 vehicles). In Germany – the brand’s strongest individual European market –ŠKODA confirmed the excellent result from last year with 15,500 vehicles delivered. The brand also recorded strong sales growth in the markets of France (2300 vehicles, +13.5%), the UK (7000 vehicles, +5.9%), Italy (2600 vehicles, +27.5%), Sweden (1600 vehicles; +8.5%), Austria (2200 vehicles, +5.9%) and the Netherlands (1400 vehicles, +12.7%).

In Central Europe, ŠKODA increased its deliveries by 14.5% to 19,000 units (May 2016: 16,600 vehicles). In the Czech home market, deliveries increased by 12.1% to 9100 vehicles (May 2016: 8100 vehicles). The Czech car manufacturer also made significant gains in Poland (5700 vehicles, +19.2%), Slovakia (1900 vehicles, +10.0%), Croatia (700 vehicles, +74.6%) and Slovenia (600 vehicles, +5.2%).

In Eastern Europe excluding Russia, ŠKODA grew by 9.9% to 3600 vehicles this May (May 2016: 3200 vehicles). The Baltic States (700 vehicles, +25.0%), Serbia (600 vehicles, +16.5%), Ukraine (500 vehicles, +48.5%) and Bulgaria (300 vehicles, +11, 3%) all recorded double-digit growth rates. InRussia, ŠKODA recorded an increase of 5.9% to 5000 units in May (May 2016: 4700).

In China, the brand’s largest individual market, ŠKODA delivered 22,700 vehicles (May 2016: 24,200 vehicles; -6.1 %). This decline is mainly due to the ongoing revision of the model range. ŠKODA had expected this trend and anticipates a normalisation of demand in the second half of the year.

ŠKODA can report a positive result in India, where the manufacturer’s sales increased to 1300 – 34.1% up on last year (May 2016: 1000 vehicles).

Double jubilee: ŠKODA celebrates four million FABIAs and 500,000 of third generation

​Mladá Boleslav, 15 June 2017 – ŠKODA has produced the 500,000th third-generation FABIA in Mladá Boleslav today. At the same time, the manufacturer is celebrating another milestone: the four millionth ŠKODA FABIA since the series debuted in 1999.  The jubilee vehicle is a ŠKODA FABIA COMBI with a 1.0 TSI petrol engine and an automatic DSG transmission in the colour moon-white. With 91,400 deliveries in the first five months of 2017, the popular small car is currently ranked second on the ŠKODA bestseller list behind the OCTAVIA.

Where it all began: the first ŠKODA FABIA – 1999 to 2007
Shortly before the turn of the millennium, the first ŠKODA FABIA celebrated its premiere at the IAA in Frankfurt in 1999. It was based on Volkswagen's A0 platform and, at that time, set standards in handling, safety and engine technology. As a typical ŠKODA, the FABIA scored with lots of space. At the Paris Motor Show in autumn 2000, the brand introduced the first ŠKODA FABIA COMBI. The ŠKODA FABIA RS made its debut in March 2003. Around 1,790,000 ŠKODA FABIAs of the first generation ran off the production line.

The second-generation ŠKODA FABIA - 2007 to 2014
The ŠKODA FABIA II entered the spotlight at the Geneva Motor Show. The second generation offered even more space with compact dimensions. ŠKODA expanded the engine range to include more efficient powertrains, and equipped the small car with new comfort and safety features. ŠKODA first presented the FABIA COMBI in September 2007 at the IAA in Frankfurt. It set new standards in technology and functionality, and the amount of room also increased. The boot volume grew by 235 litres compared to its predecessor.

Rugged exterior with distinctive design elements – this is how ŠKODA presented the FABIA SCOUT, which was also available as an estate, in 2009. With the first ŠKODA FABIA MONTE CARLO, motorsport DNA entered the popular small car. This model completed the model range in 2011, featuring a black roof, black alloy wheels, tinted rear and side windows and other expressive design elements. The production of the second-generation FABIA ended in June 2014 after approximately 1,710,000 cars.

All good things come in threes: ŠKODA FABIA III - 2014 to today
In 2014 the Czech manufacturer wrote another successful chapter in the history of this series with the third generation of the ŠKODA FABIA. To date, exactly 500,000 vehicles have left the production line. The FABIA III presents a sharp, dynamic and emotive design language. The sporty proportions skilfully allude to ŠKODA’s successful rally cars. With its excellent space offer for this vehicle class, and innovative safety, comfort and infotainment systems, the third ŠKODA FABIA sets the benchmark in the small car segment. As a typical ŠKODA, the onboard equipment features many ‘Simply Clever’ details: the umbrella under the passenger seat, the ice scraper in the fuel cap, the multimedia bracket in the centre console, nets on the backs of the front seats, as well as hi-viz vests and bottle holders.

In early 2017, ŠKODA returned to the Geneva Motor Show. The ŠKODA FABIA received a 1.0-TSI three-cylinder for the first time, providing more power with lower fuel consumption. The 70 kW (95 hp) and 81 kW (110 hp) powertrains now available replaced the 1.2-litre four-cylinder used previously. The revised small car is the first FABIA to feature the mobile online service ŠKODA Connect. With the advanced connectivity offer, FABIA drivers have the option of always being online.  ŠKODA Connect includes the Care Connect services with assistance- and emergency-call functions. In addition, there are the online infotainment services, which include information on traffic, petrol stations, fuel prices and car parks.

At the same time, the new ŠKODA FABIA offers state-of-the-art safety systems, which have so far only been seen in higher vehicle segments. The model features front-wheel assist with integrated city emergency braking function, adaptive cruise control (ACC), multi-collision brake assist and fatigue detection. In addition, electronic tyre pressure monitoring comes as standard with all FABIA models.

ŠKODA ELEMENT: ŠKODA students build electric buggy

​› 22 ŠKODA students from nine different professional fields have designed and built the fourth apprentice car since 2014

​Mladá Boleslav, 19 June 2017 – Every year, students from ŠKODA design and build a student car. This time, following the three successful design studies from recent years, the students decided on an electric buggy that bears the name ŠKODA ELEMENT. The ‘E’ stands for electricity, ‘ELEMENT’ for the elementary and fundamental drive system of the future – e-mobility. With great dedication, the students spent approx. 1,500 hours working on the open beach buggy. This demonstrates the young engineers’ enthusiasm. Building their own vehicle isn’t just fascinating for the students at ŠKODA, it is also good advertising for the brand, the ŠKODA Vocational School and a good incentive for the country’s best young engineers.

​Since October of last year, 22 of the 900 students between the ages of 17 and 18 who are currently attending ŠKODA’s vocational school have been able to experience what it feels like to be a car designer. The young people didn’t take the easy way out when deciding what type of vehicle they wanted to build. “Electromobility is not just a temporary trend – it is the future. That’s why we have opted to build a car with an electric drive system,” said student Daniel Launa, explaining the choice of the students. The ŠKODA ELEMENT is based on the ŠKODA CITIGO. The beach buggy has no roof, no doors and only two seats. It has an electric motor with a power output of 60 kW (82 PS) under its bonnet. Implementing their creative ideas, the students have also completely redesigned the interior.

The 2017 student car project began in autumn 2016 with initial drawings of a model. Since January 2017, the highly motivated young people from various vocational courses have been working on the car not only on paper and at their computers, but more and more also at the work bench, with welding equipment and tin snips. The roof had to be removed, the entire side has been redesigned, the boot was fitted with a lid. Manufacturing the individual body components was the most complicated part. However, with each task, the students’ skills grew. They have learnt to work as a team, practised their technical and organisational skills, and experienced what it means to have to manage with a set budget. For this, ‘Simply Clever’ concepts have been most welcome. Of course, one or two tips from the experts from the Body Shop, Design or Technical Development were also much appreciated. The 17 boys and four girls have invested over 1,500 hours in the project; the development work was part of their formal lessons.

The 22 trainee engineers come from nine different professional fields – among them body painters, car electricians, body makers, motor mechanics and logistics specialists. Incidentally, students have designed and built their own vehicle every single year since 2014. In 2014 they built a two-seater version of the ŠKODA CITIGO, the 2015 pick-up was based on the ŠKODA FABIA, and in 2016 they built a coupé version of the ŠKODA RAPID SPACEBACK.

Projects such as the construction of a student car are not just motivating for the new recruits at ŠKODA, but they also inspire young people who are still searching for their dream job. ŠKODA is scoring points with this in the competition for the best talent. As there is currently a shortage of young engineers in many technical trades, it is more important than ever to offer young professionals particularly attractive training opportunities.

At the same time, ŠKODA is an advocate of the dual training system in the Czech Republic. The right combination of theory and practical training is a crucial factor in students’ career prospects and in ŠKODA’s success as a company. It is extremely pleasing that more and more young women are interested in traditionally male professions. Currently, an impressive 12.4% of the students at ŠKODA are young women.

The ŠKODA Vocational School, based at the company’s headquarters in Mladá Boleslav, is celebrating its 90th anniversary in 2017. It is part of the ŠKODA Academy that was founded in 2013 and is dedicated to learning and development with a focus on the needs of the company. Since 2014, the manufacturer has invested almost 200 million CZK in expanding its training programme and modernising the ŠKODA Academy. The work on the new buildings was completed in time for the school’s 90th anniversary; the new facilities were opened along with a new robotics centre, a language centre and a multipurpose room.

For the students, the construction of the ŠKODA ELEMENT is associated with a very special mission. They are dedicating their e-buggy to their fellow student Petr Stanislav, who was part of the 2015 team that built the pick-up. In July last year, he had a motorbike accident and has since been in a wheelchair. Nevertheless, he wants to complete his course. With their commitment, his fellow students provide the necessary motivation, whilst ŠKODA ensured that he has been able to continue with his programme at all. Amongst other things, investments in the modernisation of the academy were put towards the creation of barrier-free access to all areas of the school.

ŠKODA ELEMENT: the fourth student car from Mladá Boleslav

​Mladá Boleslav, 21 June 2017 – Following on from the ŠKODA CITIJET, ŠKODA FUNSTAR and the ŠKODA ATERO, now comes the ŠKODA ELEMENT – students from the ŠKODA Vocational School have built a student car for the fourth time. The ŠKODA ELEMENT, an electrically powered buggy based on the ŠKODA CITIGO, stands as yet another testament to the skills of the young people at the ŠKODA Academy. The new student car is a roadworthy beach buggy featuring a solar panel, Smart TV, cool box and mobile disco.

​The ŠKODA ELEMENT is 3,597 mm long and 1,641 mm wide. With no roof or doors and just two seats, the student car not only has 60 mm more ground clearance, above all it is also visually a totally discrete model – a classic, open buggy.

The silver-coloured underbody protection at the front and rear as well as the black/yellow 16-inch SCORPIUS alloy wheels with all-terrain tyres are particularly striking. The high wheel arches are framed by a black trim which continues along the bottom edge of the sills between the wheels, creating a narrow running board. There are no doors; you just climb over the side sills decorated with aluminium checker-plate strips and slide into the sports bucket seats. The rear lights feature LED technology. The ŠKODA students also considered the smaller details, with the car’s yellow (Dragon Skin) brake callipers, demonstrating their attention to detail.

The black leather/Alcantara bucket seats with yellow edging and decorative stitching originate from the ŠKODA OCTAVIA RS. They are adorned with the embroidered name of the ŠKODA Academy. The two-tone theme also continues in the individually designed interior. The painted front of the instrument panel shines in pearlescent yellow, the steering wheel and gearstick are covered in black leather and bear golden-yellow details. The surface between the instrument panel and the windscreen is lined with black Alcantara.

There is also a Navigon navigation system on board, which – fitted in a separate bracket – seems to float above the air conditioning controls. The car’s most striking feature, however, can be found where the ŠKODA CITIGO has its back seats. The students fitted a solar panel as well as a Smart TV behind the front seats which can be paired with a smartphone via Bluetooth. The Smart TV is located in the aluminium-decorated boot lid to which the solar panel has been mounted, sitting between two rustic, matt-black brackets. One speaker next to each seat and two additional speakers fitted in the boot turn the ŠKODA ELEMENT into a 400-watt beach club on wheels. The students have also integrated a cool box into the boot that is classily lined with blue carpet. The cool box is connected to an additional battery and powered by the solar panel.

A compact 60-kW (82 PS) electric motor with a torque of 210 Nm powers the ŠKODA ELEMENT. The electric design study accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 13 seconds and reaches a top speed of 130 km/h. The lithium-ion battery integrated in the car floor has a capacity of 18.7 kWh. This means that – depending on the route profile, driving style and payload – the ŠKODA ELEMENT has a range of up to 160 km.

Tour de France: ŠKODA KAROQ starts at Grand Départ in Düsseldorf

› First unveiled appearance of ŠKODA’s new compact SUV on public roads at start of Tour de France

​Mladá Boleslav, 22 June 2017 – When Stage 1 of the 104th Tour de France starts in Düsseldorf on 1 July, the ŠKODA KAROQ will also be lining up at the start. The new compact SUV will travel on the 14-kilometre time trials as a service vehicle. Two white ŠKODA KAROQ SUVs and one in steel-grey will accompany the teams from Dimension Data (South Africa), Lotto Jumbo (Netherlands) and Lotto Soudal (Belgium) in their battle for tenths of a second. Following the world premiere of the ŠKODA KAROQ in Stockholm, this will be the first outing by the unveiled all-rounder on public roads. ŠKODA has been the official partner of the world’s largest cycling race for the past 14 years.

​198 cyclists in 22 teams are facing the 3,540-kilometre challenge of the 104th Tour de France, which will start in Germany for the first time in 30 years on 1 July. After Berlin (1987), Stage 1 will be starting this time in Düsseldorf.

Three ŠKODA KAROQs will accompany the teams of Dimension Data from ,South Africa’, ,Lotto Jumbo’ from the Netherlands and ,Lotto Soudal’ from Belgium as service vehicles during the 14-kilometre time trials in Düsseldorf. The ŠKODA KAROQ will be driving on public roads for the first time without any camouflage before its market launch at the end of this year.

The emotional and dynamic design of the ŠKODA KAROQ is an ideal match for the starting field. Although the all-rounder with its manual 6-speed transmission or 7-speed DSG does not have as many gears as the racing bikes, the Dynamic Chassis Control (DCC), three selectable drive modes and electromechanical servo steering provide particularly dynamic performance on the road. There is a choice of five engines with power outputs from 85 kW (115 hp) to 140 kW (190 hp). The generous interior dimensions provide plenty of space for material and the support staff accompanying the tour. Thanks to the WiFi hotspot, connectivity also leaves nothing to be desired; the passengers are always online. The KAROQ is the first ŠKODA also to offer a digital instrument panel that can be used to program and display the instruments in the cockpit individually. Other special features include the virtual pedal: the ‘Simply Clever’ solution that opens and closes the boot with a foot swipe underneath the rear bumper.

The close relationship between the traditional Czech brand and cycling has a long history. 122 years ago, the founders of the company, Václav Laurin and Václav Klement, started out with the manufacture of bicycles before they moved on to manufacturing motorcars. Cycle racing is a cornerstone of ŠKODA’s sponsorship strategy. Alongside the Tour de France and the Vuelta a España in Spain, the company supports other international and national cycle races, as well as numerous other popular sporting events.

Mladá Boleslav, 22 June 2017 – ŠKODA is celebrating the production of its 15-millionth vehicle since the beginning of its partnership with Volkswagen. The two companies have thereby reached another milestone in their shared success story. Since being incorporated into the Volkswagen Group in 1991, ŠKODA has transformed from a regional operator into an established high-volume manufacturer that is represented in over 100 markets across the world. Last year, the car manufacturer achieved a new sales record with 1,126,500 deliveries.

In the past 25 years, ŠKODA has written an exemplary success story and has developed into an established high-volume manufacturer. After a fresh start under the umbrella of Volkswagen Group in 1991, the Czech brand initially offered one model range and sold 170,000 cars per year. In 2016, the manufacturer achieved a new record figure with 1,126,500 deliveries being made worldwide. After the first five months of this year, ŠKODA is once again on course for record sales, having delivered 480,000 cars so far.

With seven model ranges and over 40 model variants, ŠKODA is now represented in all important segments. The brand’s extensive SUV campaign began with the launch of the new ŠKODA KODIAQ in February 2017. This is being continued with the KAROQ compact SUV, whose production will begin shortly. With a total of 5.6 million cars, the ŠKODA OCTAVIA represents the largest proportion of the 15 million cars that have been produced since the merger with Volkswagen, followed by the small car, ŠKODA FABIA, with four million and the ŠKODA SUPERB with just over one million.

As it has grown, the company has been cultivating an international and efficient production network. In its home country of the Czech Republic, besides its main plant in Mladá Boleslav, the manufacturer also operates production plants in Kvasiny and Vrchlabí. In addition, ŠKODA cars are rolling off the production line at Volkswagen Group plants in China, India, Russia and Slovakia.

The consistent expansion of the model range and development of the brand’s innovation culture as well as improvement in production capacity are important components of ŠKODA’s 2025 strategy. ​Mladá Boleslav, 23 June 2017 – ŠKODA continues in its model campaign also on two wheels. The range of ŠKODA bicycles has been expanded with three retro models and upgrades the other models. The classically designed VOITURETTE, CITY and CITY LADY bicycles, which hark back to the origins of the car manufacturer from Mladá Boleslav, are all new to the portfolio. The new STRETCHGO folding bike and the two modern e-bikes are high quality, practical and sophisticated. Overall, the product range encompasses of 13 models – from children’s bikes to racing bikes, mountain bikes, folding and retro bikes through to e-bikes.

Bikes with the perfect retro look

ŠKODA’s new retro bicycles combine the brand’s history with state-of-the-art technology. The VOITURETTE (21- or 22-inch steel frame) and CITY (21-inch frame) models have a black finish, a brown saddle and brown handlebar grips as well as beige-coloured tyres. The absence of a luggage rack, the traditional chain guard and the chrome-plated handlebars round off the retro look perfectly. Shimano brakes and 7-speed drivetrain ensure safety and provide state-of-the-art drive technology. The shifting mechanism is tried and tested, maintenance-free, robust and totally reliable. The frame of the third retro model, the CITY LADY (19-inch frame), has a cream finish with brown tyres providing a contrast.

Travel through the city with ease

The STRETCHGO folding bike weighs just 12.5 kg and is the perfect companion for commuters. The black city bike with 7-speed Shimano drivetrain can be easily folded up for storing in a car boot or in the office, offers taller cyclists a comfortable ride once unfolded and also provides a clear view of city traffic thanks to its high seat position.

Electricity on two wheels

When required, the eBIKE (19- and 21.5-inch frame) and the eBIKE LADY (16.5- and 18-inch frame) electric models deliver ample support. The 9-speed Shimano drive system providing 250 watts (50 Nm) can be used in three different modes: Eco (approx. 70 per cent support), Normal (approx. 150 per cent support) or High (up to 230 per cent support) and reaches a speed of up to 25 km/h. The electric drive system can also be reduced to walking speed if all that is needed is support while pushing the bike, or it can be turned off completely. The frame has a black and white finish and is made from aluminium. The bike, including the drive system, weighs 17.4 kg, while the battery weighs an additional 2.7 kg.

Ride like the pros

The lightweight model in ŠKODA’s range of bikes is called the ROAD ELITE. The idea of offering a racing bike like this stems from ŠKODA’s long-term involvement in high-performance cycling. Amongst others, ŠKODA is sponsoring the Tour de France and the Vuelta a España. The black racing bike with a carbon-fibre frame and forks weighs just 7.9 kg and has 2 x 11 gears. The ROAD model, whose frame and forks are also made from carbon fibre, is not much heavier (2 x 9 gears, 9.6 kg). Both models are available with a 20-, 21-, 22- or 23-inch frame.

The SCOUT variants of the bike world

The ŠKODA MTB models are ideal when venturing off the beaten track. The MTB 29 FULL (2 x 11 gears, 15.5-, 17,5 or 19-inch frame), the MTB 29 (3 x 9 gears, 18-, 20- or 22-inch frame) and the MTB LADY (3 x 9 gears, 14- or 16-inch frame) are all available.
The product portfolio is completed by two cool bikes for little ones. The black and green KID 16, designed for the youngest of cyclists, it has only one gear and comes with stabilisers. With the white and green KID 20, older children will be able to keep up on leisurely family outings thanks to the 6-speed Shimano gears.

​Mladá Boleslav / Prague, 27 June 2017 – ŠKODA is upgrading the smallest member of its model range. The ŠKODA CITIGO is being launched with three or five doors and many new design, technology and equipment features. The city car stands out in the crowd. The front, side and rear sections display precise shapes, defined edges and smooth surfaces. Instantly recognisable as an attractive, modern and practical city runabout. The ŠKODA CITIGO embodies modern technology and modern urban mobility.

​Design: compact yet spacious
With a length of 3,597 mm, width of 1,645 mm and height of 1,478 mm (five-door model), the ŠKODA CITIGO is one of the most compact yet spacious cars in its segment. There is a choice of four trim levels: Easy, Active, Ambition and Style. The ŠKODA CITIGO is also available as a Monte Carlo edition and special FUN model. The ŠKODA CITIGO is an all-rounder for the city – as nimble as it is neat.

The completely revised front section includes a new bonnet, a modified bumper, revamped fog lights and a redesigned radiator grille in the typical ŠKODA design. The headlights feature LED daytime running lights (as standard for Ambition, Style and Monte Carlo – optional for the Active trim level). The fog lights are now available with a cornering function (optional from Active). City Safe Drive with light and rain sensor as well as Light Assist with Coming Home function also provide greater comfort (optional from Active trim level).

The redesigned rear section is characterised by the dark-framed tail lights (from the Ambition trim level upwards). In the Style and Ambition trim levels, the roof and the wing mirrors are available in white or black as an optional extra (not applicable for the body colours Sunflower Yellow and Dark Sapphire Blue).

14-, 15- and 16-inch alloy wheels are available. The new 15-inch ‘Conan’ alloy wheel (optional for Style trim level) is available in silver or high-gloss anthracite. The shape of the eight spokes creates the impression of a turbine. The high-gloss black, 16-inch ‘Scorpius’ alloy wheels, which are optionally available for the Active, Ambition and Style trim levels, are also new to the range. In terms of body colours, the vibrant standard colour Kiwi Green replaces the metallic colour Spring Green.

In the interior, the city car presents large interior dimensions that are typical of ŠKODA. The ŠKODA CITIGO offers a boot capacity of 251 l and elbow room of 1,369 mm (in the five-door). With the rear seats folded down, the boot can hold 951 l in the three-door and 959 l in the five-door. The long wheelbase of 2,420 mm creates plenty of space in the rear; four people can enjoy journeys in comfort. The EasyEntry function in the three-door version (standard in Ambition and Style trim levels – optional in Active) makes it easier for passengers to get into the back.

The rear headroom is a generous 947 mm (993 mm in the front). Elbow room in the rear, which measures 1,389 mm in the three-door and 1,388 mm in the five-door, is also very generous.

Leather multifunction steering wheel and Climatronic

The ŠKODA CITIGO’s dashboard has a neat, uncluttered design. The instrument cluster with speed indicator, rev counter and fuel gauge comes in a new design and is available in two different versions. The standard three-spoke steering wheel bearing the ŠKODA logo is now available as a multifunction steering wheel with leather cover (standard for the special-edition ŠKODA CITIGO MONTE CARLO and the special model ŠKODA CITIGO FUN, optional for Ambition and Style trim levels). Its buttons allow control of the radio and paired phone without the driver having to remove their hands from the steering wheel. The Climatronic system (optional from the Ambition trim level) ensures pleasant temperatures at all times.

The Swing infotainment system and the Move&Fun App allow the integration of smartphones

The new-generation Blues and Swing radio and infotainment systems offer many connectivity options – ranging from an aux-in socket to an SD-card slot and a USB socket. The Swing variant additionally features a colour display, six speakers and a Bluetooth connection, meaning the Swing infotainment system can be paired with the smartphone. The Move&Fun App, which runs on the iOS and Android operating systems, provides navigation, a driving data display, hands-free phone calls and tips for efficient driving as well as playing music and the radio. A Maxi-DOT display is available as an optional extra (standard for CNG engine, optional for the Ambition and Style trim levels).

Driver assistance systems and comprehensive safety equipment

The emergency brake helps to prevent rear-end collisions in city traffic. The assistance feature is automatically active at speeds between 5 and 30 km/h. A laser sensor, which is integrated in the rear-view mirror mount, scans an area of 10 m in front of the vehicle. In the event of an impending collision – if the driver does not react – the braking system is primed in the first instance and the hydraulic Brake Assist function becomes more sensitive. The system also initiates a full application of the brakes to bring the car to a standstill if required, or – if the driver is not braking hard enough – it automatically increases the braking force.

Standard equipment includes four airbags, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), a traction control system, Electronic Differential Lock (EDL), electromechanical power steering, three-point seat belts for all four seats, belt tensioners for those in the front, Isofix anchor points on the rear seats (including top tether fastening), automatic activation of the hazard lights in the event of emergency braking, Hill Hold Control and tyre pressure monitoring.

A choice of three engines with three cylinders

Modern three-cylinder engines are used in the ŠKODA CITIGO. The front-, transverse-mounted engines produce 44 kW (60 PS), 50 kW (68 PS, CNG variant) and 55 kW (75 PS), and drive the front wheels. The cylinder capacity is 1.0 l (999 cc) in each case. Despite the small cylinder capacity, all power variants of the 1.0-l powertrain are characterised by high torque with low noise levels and high efficiency. All engines meet the strict requirements of the EU6 emissions standard. In addition, models at all trim levels (except the Easy trim level) can be equipped with Green tec technology as an option, which optimises fuel consumption.

The entry-level engine is the 1.0-l engine with 44 kW (60 PS). Maximum torque of 95 Nm is achieved at 3,000 rpm. The ŠKODA CITIGO accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 14.4 seconds. Its top speed is 162 km/h. In combination with the five-speed manual transmission, it has a combined consumption of 4.4 l per 100 km on average and emits 101 g of CO2 per km. In the particularly fuel-efficient Green tec version, these values are 4.1 l per 100 km and 96 g CO2/km respectively.

With the same cylinder capacity (999 cc), the more powerful engine variant of the ŠKODA CITIGO delivers 55 kW (75 PS). Maximum torque of 95 Nm is achieved at 3,000 rpm.Top speed: 173 km/h (with manual transmission), acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h: 13.5 seconds. Combined consumption with manual transmission averages 4.4 l per 100 km, corresponding to CO2 emissions of 101 g/km. In the Green tec version, the engine consumes 4.1 l per 100 km, with CO2 emissions of 96 g/km.

Green tec: particularly fuel-efficient

A Stop-Start system and brake energy recovery – innovative solutions which ensure lower consumption and emissions – are key features of the 1.0-l engines with Green tec technology used in the ŠKODA CITIGO.

CNG drive: G-TEC as an efficient and environmentally friendly alternative

As in the Green tec versions, the natural-gas-powered ŠKODA CITIGO 1.0 G-TEC features the Stop-Start function and brake energy recovery as standard. The particularly environmentally friendly CNG (compressed natural gas) drive can be ordered for the Active, Ambition and Style trim levels (not available for Easy trim level) as well as the Monte Carlo edition and the special FUN model.

The natural gas variant works with the familiar 1.0-l, three-cylinder engine that has been specially optimised for use with CNG. Its power output is 50 kW (68 PS). The combination of CNG drive and Green tec technology makes the smallest ŠKODA model particularly efficient and eco-friendly. The ŠKODA CITIGO G-TEC gets by with only 4.5 kg of natural gas per 100 km. At the same time, it emits only 82 g of CO2 per km and excels with the top rating of A in terms of its energy efficiency class.

Transmission, steering and lightweight construction

The ŠKODA CITIGO’s compact overall package with its short front and rear overhangs, long wheelbase and rigid body structure forms the basis for the finely tuned chassis and good driving dynamics. Lightweight, high-strength steel reduces the weight and improves safety. The low weight of both the manual and automatic gearboxes as well as the intelligent operation of the steering also reduce fuel consumption.

In all trim levels, electromechanical power steering with an actuator on the steering column is used. The power support works only when it is required.

The ŠKODA CITIGO comes with either a five-speed manual gearbox or an automated shift gearbox. The focus here was on a compact design weighing very little. The manual gearbox weighs just 27 kg. Weighing less than 30 kg, the automated version of the gearbox – known as ASG – is also one of the lightest automatic gearboxes ever built. The gearbox reduces consumption by up to 0.1 l of petrol per 100 km compared to the manual version.

The ŠKODA CITIGO’s body design not only sets benchmarks in terms of safety. With its particular rigidity, it also meets the highest demands in terms of comfort with regards to acoustics and vibration behaviour.

A wealth of ‘Simply Clever’ features in the car

The abundance of diverse and intelligent features, which are available in all of the models produced by the long-established Czech brand, has become the motto for the entire product range: ‘SIMPLY CLEVER’. Even the smallest model is packed full of features that make travelling in the car easier. Here is just a selection: umbrella under the passenger seat, high-vis-vest holder under the driver’s seat, fold-out bag hook on the handle of the glove compartment, storage nets on the inner side of the front seats’ backrests (standard from Ambition), multimedia holder in the centre console, ticket holder on the windscreen and sun visor, cup holder between the front seats,1,5-litre bottle holder in the storage compartments of the front doors, adjustable false boot floor, boot nets and hooks for securing luggage, folding backrest on the front passenger seat (five-door model), storage compartments beside the rear seats (three-door model), removable waste bin. In total, the three-door and five-door models each offer 16 ‘Simply Clever’ features.

Monte Carlo edition and special FUN model

The ŠKODA CITIGO MONTE CARLO is launched in a rally design with dynamic details as standard. Its most striking features are the sports chassis, which has been lowered by 15 mm, front and rear spoilers and the motorsport-inspired styling. The modified front spoiler immediately catches the eye. The radiator grille frame and wing mirror housings come in a sporty black. The rear window and rear side windows are tinted (SunSet). The interior is also eye-catching with seat covers especially designed for this trim level in Monte Carlo Red. The specification of the ŠKODA CITIGO MONTE CARLO, which is available with three or five doors, is based on the Ambition trim level. The wheel arches are filled out by 15-inch black ‘Crux’ alloy wheels with 185/55 tyres.

ŠKODA also offers a special model with three or five doors in the shape of the CITIGO FUN. This comes with alloy wheels and the Swing infotainment system with colour display, as well as six speakers as standard. It features Bluetooth hands-free phone equipment and an SD-card slot. If the smartphone is in the Move&Fun smartphone docking station (with holder on the dashboard – optional for the Ambition and Style trim levels), it can control the radio and music media. The coloured details in the interior also clearly differentiate the ŠKODA CITIGO FUN. The dashboard is Piano White across its entire width; the door trim is black.

Milestone for the heart of the brand: Six-millionth ŠKODA OCTAVIA produced

​Mladá Boleslav, 27 June 2017 – ŠKODA has produced the six millionth OCTAVIA. The jubilee vehicle ran off the production line at the company’s headquarters in Mladá Boleslav today. Since its launch in 1996, the ŠKODA OCTAVIA has become a global sales hit and today is the traditional Czech company’s bestseller. The beginnings of the popular series date back to 1959.

​“No other model has run off ŠKODA’s production lines more often than the OCTAVIA,” says Michael Oeljeklaus, ŠKODA Board Member for Production and Logistics. “It is the heart of our brand and represents the high performance of ŠKODA production and logistics. The OCTAVIA has made a significant contribution to ŠKODA’s rise on the global markets.”
The ŠKODA OCTAVIA exemplifies the brand's success over the past two decades. It was the first newly developed ŠKODA model following the fall of the Iron Curtain and after joining forces with the Volkswagen Group. Its introduction provided the impetus for ŠKODA's rise to becoming a globally operating company, which has now successfully established itself among the large volume brands.

First OCTAVIA and its forebear

The launch of the ŠKODA OCTAVIA took place in autumn 1996 at the 'Mondial de l'Automobile' in Paris. The then new notchback saloon in the upper compact class featured modern technology and was very high quality and excellent value for money. With its ample space, the OCTAVIA set new standards in its segment right from the start. In addition, the car designed by former ŠKODA Chief Designer Dirk van Braeckel impressed buyers with a timeless design. A striking appearance with a large radiator grille enlivened the street scene of the 1990s.

In searching for a name for the new model, ŠKODA looked back to its model history. Between 1959 and 1971, the manufacturer built a vehicle called OCTAVIA, which mobilised the masses, offering lots of space and modern technology for the time. The name OCTAVIA comes from the Latin word for the number eight: 'Octo'.

The historical OCTAVIA was the traditional Czech brand’s eighth model after the Second World War, following the POPULAR variants 420, 995, 995 OHV and 110 OHV, as well as the ŠKODA 1101, 1200 and 400. In 1961 an estate version was launched on the market. In 22 years of production, ŠKODA built 365,400 vehicles in the popular series.

The OCTAVIA of the ‘modern era’ set the bar considerably higher. In 1997 ŠKODA produced 61,000 OCTAVIAs, one year later the production number had almost doubled to over 117,500 units. The ŠKODA OCTAVIA COMBI, which also stimulated demand, followed in 1998. In 2010, the last of 1,442,100 OCTAVIAs of the first generation rolled off the line at the Vrchlabí plant.

ŠKODA launched global production with the OCTAVIA II

The successor, first introduced at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2004, continued the triumphant success of its predecessor. The OCTAVIA II had a fresh design, more space in the interior and boot, as well as state-of-the-art technology. Also, petrol engines with direct injection celebrated their premiere in the new generation. Added to this there were new six-speed manual gearboxes and automatic gearboxes - including the DSG transmission. Driving comfort increased thanks to a new multi-link rear axle. The enhanced safety features included ABS with braking assistant as series standard in Europe, four airbags and new active headrests.

With the second-generation OCTAVIA, the Czech manufacturer also stepped up its internationalisation strategy. The production of the OCTAVIA began at the Indian plant Aurangabad in 2005. The Shanghai Volkswagen plant has been building the OCTAVIA for China since 2007. And since 2009, the OCTAVIA has been produced at the Russian Volkswagen plant in Kaluga.

The third OCTAVIA generation celebrated its premiere in 2012. Just one year later, production of the brand's bestseller also commenced in Ukraine and Kazakhstan.

With the extensively revised version of the ŠKODA OCTAVIA released in February 2017, the brand intends to continue the success story of its predecessors and further strengthen ŠKODA's position in the international markets. The current ŠKODA OCTAVIA looks more dynamic than ever thanks to the newly designed front and rear sections, harmonious lines and wider track. The new version of the compact model convinces with proven strengths and sets standards in terms of space, functionality, safety and comfort technology, as well as value for money in its segment. In addition, the new generation is the first OCTAVIA to feature ŠKODA Connect mobile online services. With its advanced connectivity solutions, the brand’s bestseller is also equipped for the digital age.
