ŠKODA’s young compact car – Production starts on the Rapid Spaceback

› First ŠKODA hatchback in the compact segment leaves production lines today
› Production in Mladá Boleslav - Production facilities expanded and adapted
› World premiere of ŠKODA’s latest compact at Frankfurt Motor Show

Mladá Boleslav, 19 August 2013 – Production starts on the first ŠKODA hatchback model in the high-volume compact segment: As of today, the new ŠKODA Rapid Spaceback will be rolling of the production lines at ŠKODA’s main factory in Mladá Boleslav. The stage is set for world premiere of the new model at Frankfurt Motor Show, with its launch on European markets starting in October.

Starting the manufacture of the Rapid Spaceback now marks the eighth production launch this year. “Our whole ŠKODA team, from purchasing, technical development, to production and logistics as well as quality assurance has once again done a great job to ensure that this start-up of an extremely important model for the brand was carried out reliably, to the highest quality and on time,” says ŠKODA Board Member for Production Michael Oeljeklaus.

In order to accommodate the manufacture of the Rapid Spaceback, ŠKODA adapted the operations and expanded the facilities at the main plant in Mladá Boleslav. For example, new welding robots were installed during the company holidays. The Rapid Spaceback is produced alongside the current Fabia model on one production line. Apart from these models, ŠKODA also produces the Octavia, Octavia Combi and Rapid in Mladá Boleslav.

The Rapid Spaceback complements ŠKODA’s product range with a model positioned between the Fabia and the Octavia. This is the first time a compact car has been offered, combining practical ŠKODA features in a hatchback. As is typical of ŠKODA, the Rapid Spaceback offers lots of space, many Simply Clever ideas, top-level safety, low fuel consumption and is great value for money. With its dynamic and fresh design, the Rapid Spaceback has been especially designed with young people and families in mind.

As part of the preparations for the production of the new Octavia/Octavia Combi and Rapid/Rapid Spaceback, the manufacturer implemented, among other things, new equipment for car body production, a fully-automated paint shop and a new ultra-modern press line at the start of 2013. Since April, a new logistics warehouse has been in operation to ensure the supply of parts to vehicle and powertrain production is faster, more flexible and more efficient than ever before.

ŠKODA at the Sachsen Classic with four vintage cars

› 610 km through the most beautiful places in Saxony
› ŠKODA with two sports cars, a roadster and a convertible
› The three-day classic race starts in Zwickau on 22 August

Mladá Boleslav, 21 August 2013 – ŠKODA will be at the starting line of the 11th Sachsen Classic with four classic cars. The vintage car race begins on 22 August in Zwickau and will continue along a total of 610 km through the most beautiful regions of Saxony.

ŠKODA will be putting on a fantastic performance with four cars from the 118-year history of the Czech company during the three days of this year’s Sachsen Classic: Alongside the two-seater sports car Laurin & Klement 300, at the starting line in Zwickau there will be the ŠKODA 1101 Roadster, better known as the Tudor, as well as the ŠKODA Felicia and the racing car ŠKODA 1000 MB Rally. “The spectators will be delighted to see these fantastic vehicles, which we have selected for the Sachsen Classic 2013 from the ŠKODA museum collection. Thanks to their advanced construction and timeless design, they are all very good examples of the brand’s successful development,” says Dr. Frank Welsch, ŠKODA Board Member for Technical Development.

All four models represent stages in the traditional brand’s history of producing vehicles at the Czech home town of Mladá Boleslav. The gleaming, yellow-lacquered Laurin & Klement 300 from 1923 will be with the in crowd at the rally in Saxony. Under the long bonnet of the two-seater sports car lies a four-cylinder with a 4.7 litre displacement and an output of 50 hp. The post-war era of the automobile factory in Mladá Boleslav is represented by the yellow ŠKODA 1101 Roadster from 1948. The model is known to car enthusiasts by the name of Tudor and is propelled by a 1.1 litre 32 hp engine.
Another gem from ŠKODA’s automotive treasure trove will be on the road in Saxony; the turquoise ŠKODA Felicia from 1961. With its open top, it is one of the most elegant cars of its time and in the whole history of ŠKODA.

With the ŠKODA 1000 MB Rally from 1968, it is all about endurance racing; a car which, in its time, took part in long-distance races, including the London-Mexico and the Panama-Alaska. The correspondingly modified four cylinder of the ŠKODA 1000 MB Rally with its 1.3 litre engine delivers around 90 hp and the car travels at speeds of up to 170 km/h. The interior features sports seats and a sturdy tubular frame as rollover protection.

In view of the amazing starting field, the Sachsen Classic is always a favourite among spectators. The rally begins on Thursday 22 August at 13:01 at Zwickau Market Square for the first 118 km-long stage, taking the participants to the Sachsenring circuit. A special stage will take place there on the racing track. On the Friday, there will be afurther 250 km under the belt. The aim of this stage is Chemnitz, where, on Saturday,
the vehicles will begin the last stage of their journey – a 245 km round-trip leading back
once again to Chemnitz.

ŠKODA produces 4,000,000th Octavia

› ‘Heart of the brand’ - ŠKODA Octavia - setting new standards in the compact segment for almost 17 years
› Millions sold: Best-selling ŠKODA ever
› Winner: new ŠKODA Octavia successfully launched
› International success model: production in the Czech Republic, Russia, India, Kazakhstan, Ukraine and from 2014 in China

Mladá Boleslav, 26 August 2013 – ŠKODA has just produced the 4,000,000th ŠKODA Octavia. The anniversary vehicle – a third-generation Octavia in ‘Race-Blue’ rolled off the production line today at the Mladá Boleslav main plant. The ŠKODA Octavia has been setting standards in the compact segment since 1996 and is by far the brand’s best-selling model.

“Four million Octavias produced – this impressive figure represents the great success of the model and brand,” says ŠKODA CEO Prof. Dr. h.c. Winfried Vahland. “As the ‘heart of the brand’, the Octavia has decisively shaped ŠKODA’s outstanding development and made the company what it is today – an internationally successful manufacturer, present on over 100 markets worldwide. We are continuing this development with the third generation. The new Octavia is once again a winner with its excellent ŠKODA genes. It is the largest, lightest, safest, most practical, comfortable and environmentally friendly Octavia ever.”

The Octavia has always been the epitome of a ŠKODA: timelessly elegant design, above-average space, highest functionality, many Simply Clever features, sophisticated modern technology, quality and precision and not least unbeatable value for money. The launch of the third generation in early 2013 topped all of that again. The new Octavia offers mid-class qualities for the price of a compact, now more than ever.
At its launch in October 1996, the Octavia was the first completely new ŠKODA model after the fall of the Iron Curtain and marked the start of the partnership between ŠKODA and Volkswagen. Nearly four million Octavias had been delivered to customers worldwide between 1996 and July 2013 - around 38% of the brand’s total sales in this period, making the Octavia the undisputed best seller in the 118-year history of the company.

This also makes the new Octavia the most important model in the most comprehensive product campaign in ŠKODA’s corporate history. The manufacturer is promoting its high-impact path of growth with a powerful model extravaganza. The aim of this growth strategy is to increase the number of vehicle sales worldwide to at least 1.5 million per year by 2018.

In the first half of 2013, the Czechs presented their new bestseller in four versions: the saloon, the Combi and Combi 4x4 as well as the sporty Octavia RS – with a top speed of248 km/h, making it the fastest series-produced Octavia ever. As the cornerstone of ŠKODA’s growth strategy, the Octavia is an international success story. In addition to its manufacture at ŠKODA’s main plant in Mladá Boleslav, the compact car is also produced in Russia (Nizhny Novgorod), India (Aurangabad), Ukraine (Solomonovo) and Kazakhstan (Ust-Kamenogorsk). Additional production is also planned from 2014 in China; ŠKODA’s strongest individual market. “The ŠKODA Octavia is a car for Europe and the world, now more than ever,” says Vahland.

ŠKODA Rapid Spaceback - ŠKODA’s Young Compact Car

› ŠKODA Rapid Spaceback: The first ŠKODA hatchback in the high-volume compact segment
› Design: Dynamic, fresh for younger customers
› Typical ŠKODA: Spaciousness, functionality, and ‘Simply Clever’ features
› Personalized: Panoramic glass roof and Spaceback rear window
› Environment: Economical petrol and diesel engines with a record low of 99 g/km CO2
› Start: World premiere at the Frankfurt International Motor Show, market launch in Europe from October 2013

Mladá Boleslav, 28 August 2013 – The ŠKODA Rapid Spaceback, expands ŠKODA’s model range in the high-volume compact segment between the ŠKODA Fabia and the ŠKODA Octavia. For the first time, ŠKODA offers a compact car which combines ŠKODA’s good practical qualities with the hatchback shape. The ŠKODA Rapid Spaceback’s dynamically fresh design is sure to please younger customers. As is typical of ŠKODA, the Rapid Spaceback offers a lot of space, numerous ‘Simply Clever’ ideas, top safety, interesting opportunities for customisation, low fuel consumption and excellent value. The ŠKODA Rapid Spaceback’s roominess thus sets new standards in the segment. Its launch in the European markets is scheduled from October 2013.

“The new ŠKODA Rapid Spaceback is a milestone for ŠKODA: it means that we are entering the strategically important segment of compact hatchback models,” says ŠKODA CEO Winfried Vahland. “The Rapid Spaceback is a great addition to this class in that it combines ŠKODA’s good practical characteristics with the popular hatchback shape. Sporting the new ŠKODA design, the Rapid Spaceback has a fresh and dynamic appearance. It is a compact car with a sporty chic, spacious and practical, ideal for young people and families,” says Vahland.

A sporty-fresh compact car with ample space

The ŠKODA Rapid Spaceback’s dynamic silhouette is marked by clear lines, dynamic outlines and a distinctive interplay of light and shadow – ŠKODA’s chief designer Jozef Kabaň and his team have done a great job. The new ŠKODA Rapid Spaceback has a clear, independent appearance – with a special chic. It is a car that exudes sporty freshness and dynamic elegance, making it attractive and appealing at first sight.

The ŠKODA Rapid Spaceback’s side view offers special accents. Compared with conventional hatchback models, it appears sportier and more stretched. This differentiates the vehicle from the competition, both optically and functionally. The ŠKODA Rapid Spaceback’s dynamic silhouette is marked by clear lines, a long wheelbase (2,602 millimetres), and a sharp, high tornado line. The Rapid Spaceback has a C and a D pillar with a third side window. Together with the slender pillars, the generous window areas create a light and friendly ambiance in the interior and ensure excellent clarity.

Individualisation is a focus area in this vehicle: One of the highlights is the huge, optional panoramic glass roof offering passengers an unobstructed view of the sky and stretching from the windshield to the rear window. It is the largest glass roof ever available in a ŠKODA. Consequently, passengers benefit from ample light and a feeling or air and space. The glass roof measures 1,713 × 1,155 millimetres and offers a viewing space of 1,210 × 780 millimetres.

The Rapid Spaceback’s panoramic roof appears even more attractive in combination with the elongated rear window. The glazing area then extends all the way from the windshield over the glass roof down to the tailgate. The black tinted, extended rear window reaches roughly ten centimetres farther into the hatchback than the Rapid Spaceback’s regular rear window. These are the Rapid Spaceback’s two distinct new style elements giving it exclusive individuality.

The rear end emphasises the sporty character of the Rapid Spaceback. Its lines are crisp and clear. A black diffuser element and the reflectors in the bumper underline the horizontal orientation as well as the broad tail lights in brand-typical ‘C’ design. The centrally-placed brand logo is flanked by the ŠKODA lettering on the left and the RAPID model name on the right.

The ŠKODA Rapid Spaceback’s front design includes the characteristic Rapid elements: a prominent grille with 19 vertical slats and a chrome frame, the ŠKODA logo on the rounded front end of the hood, the cloverleaf arrangement of the headlights and fog lights. The Rapid Spaceback comes with an optional xenon package immediately from market launch. This includes xenon headlamps as well as fog lamps with cornering light function.

Spacious, attractive interior – ‘Simply Clever’ to the core

“With its attractive combination of space, functionality, and design, the Rapid Spaceback is a new offer in the compact car segment. This is a very spacious vehicle that represents one of our brand’s key values,” says Werner Eichhorn, ŠKODA board member for sales and marketing. “As is typical of ŠKODA, the Rapid Spaceback’s interior sets a new standard in its class,” says Eichhorn. Though the exterior of the new Rapid Spaceback measures 18 centimetres less than the Rapid limousine, passenger space is just as generous as in the car’s ‘big brother’: The rear of the Rapid Spaceback offers the largest legroom (64 millimetres) and the largest headroom (980 millimetres) in its segment. At 415 litres, or 1,380 litres when the rear seat is folded down, boot volumes are among the best in the segment.

Numerous ‘Simply Clever’ solutions complement this generous space: The new Rapid Spaceback has a double cargo floor in the boot, which can divide the space into two horizontal levels providing double utility. Furthermore, the Rapid Spaceback offers all the practical features we are familiar with from the Rapid. This includes the ice scraper in the centrally lockable petrol cap and holder for the warning vest under the driver seat, the double-sided floor cover in the boot and the waste bin in the side door. Other examples include a ticket holder, a multimedia holder, cup holders in the front and rear, and the parcel shelf that can be stowed behind the rear seats.

The interior of the new Rapid Spaceback also boasts a sporty three-spoke steering wheel, stylish trim strips and freshly designed seat covers.

Safety without compromises

The new ŠKODA Rapid Spaceback offers the high safety standards that have come to be expected of ŠKODA. A comprehensive safety package protects passengers in case of an accident. This includes front, side and head airbags, height-adjustable three-point safety belts with pre-tensioners in the front and height-adjustable head restraints. In EU countries, the ABS (Antilock Braking System) and ESC (Electronic Stability Control) systems are standard. Other active safety features are optional xenon headlights, tyre pressure control, fog lamps with cornering function and the ‘hill-hold control’ assistant.

The Rapid Spaceback is the first in the Rapid model series to be equipped with Column-Electric Power Steering (C-EPS). Until now, the Rapid was equipped with electro-hydraulic power steering. The electro-mechanical power steering is speed-dependent. In the C-EPS, the driver’s steering motions are supported by a program-controlled electric servo motor on the steering column. The hydraulics unit that was used thus far, as well as the servo-pump, hoses, and hydraulic fluid, are no longer needed. Some of the key advantages include better steering behaviour, less weight and less required space.

Four petrol, two diesel engines

In Europe, the new ŠKODA Rapid Spaceback will be available with four petrol and two diesel engines at market launch. These advanced power plants put out between 55 and 90 kW. The 66 kW 1.6 TDI celebrates its premiere in the Rapid model series with the Rapid Spaceback’s market launch and completes the current diesel engine 1.6 TDI/77 kW. In the GreenLine version with this engine, the Rapid Spaceback uses a mere 3.8 l per 100 km, CO2 emissions amounting to 99 g/km. And the 66 kW 1.6 TDI can also be combined with automatic seven-speed DSG transmission. All TSI and TDI engines are also available in the economical Green tec versions.
Four power trains are used for petrol engines. The three-cylinder 55 kW 1.2 MPI and two four-cylinders 1.2 TSI (63 kW and 77 kW) are available with manual transmission. The strongest petrol engine is the 90 kW 1.4 TSI, which is offered with a seven-speed DGS transmission.

The largest model initiative in company history

The ŠKODA Rapid Spaceback expands the brand’s offer in this class between the Fabia and Octavia models. The ŠKODA Rapid has been a success in the Indian market since late 2011, and in the European markets for nearly a year. ŠKODA recently started building and selling the car in China as well. To date (31 July 2013), 75,000 Rapids have been sold.

The ŠKODA Rapid Spaceback is the latest innovation as part of the largest model initiative in ŠKODA’s 118-year history. Over the coming years, the brand plans to overhaul its entire model range and expand into additional segments. On average, one new or re-engineered vehicle will be introduced to the market every six months. This model initiative is the core of the ŠKODA Growth Strategy 2018, by which year ŠKODA sales are to rise to at least 1.5 million per year.

ŠKODA AUTO brings two world premieres to Frankfurt

› Two new models for IAA Frankfurt: Brand new ŠKODA Rapid Spaceback and redesigned ŠKODA Yeti
› Rapid Spaceback: Youthful, compact ŠKODA hatchback
› Revised ŠKODA SUV in two design variations: Yeti and Yeti Outdoor
› In Frankfurt, ŠKODA AUTO shows results of the biggest model offensive in history of the brand
› Eight new or modified models just in 2013 alone

Mladá Boleslav, 2 September 2013 – ŠKODA AUTO further increases the pace of new model introductions. At this year’s International Motor Show in Frankfurt am Main, held from 14th to 22nd September, the brand will unveil two world premieres: the new ŠKODA Rapid Spaceback, and revised SUV ŠKODA Yeti - for the first time in two separate design lines. With these cars, ŠKODA AUTO continues with the biggest model offensive in its history. In this year alone, the brand will launch eight new or revised models. Before 2018, ŠKODA AUTO wants to increase its annual sales to at least 1.5 million new cars.

„At IAA, we are going to demonstrate the power of our brand – both with brand new Rapid Spaceback compact family hatchback, and substantially revised SUV Yeti which will now come in two separate design lines, and with our refreshed and expanded model line as a whole,” says ŠKODA chairman of the board Prof. Dr. h.c. Winfried Vahland. „We are carrying on with our growth strategy even when the market is going through rough times. In following years, we are going to further strengthen the position of ŠKODA brand as an important global player in automotive markets.”

ŠKODA Rapid Spaceback: New class among compacts hatchbacks

With Rapid Spaceback, ŠKODA expands its offer in a very strong segment of compact family cars. “ŠKODA Rapid Spaceback is the first compact family hatchback in the history of ŠKODA, and thus also another milestone in the brand’s history,” says Dr. Frank Welsch, ŠKODA head of development. “For the first time, are present in the strongest segment of the European car market.”

The fresh and dynamic design connects the Rapid Spaceback to the traditional values of ŠKODA cars. It differs from competition both in its looks and functionality. The ŠKODA Rapid Spaceback will captivate observers by its combination of the brand’s new design language with highly individualistic character. As a part of the optional equipment, the Rapid Spaceback offers a vast array of individualization options – among others a large panoramic glass roof or extended tailgate glazing. The cabin has a youthful, fresh style: the Rapid Spaceback brings new steering wheels, new upholstery fabrics and new trim.

With its interior space, the new ŠKODA Rapid Spaceback sets the new standards for the compact family hatchbacks. Rear passengers can enjoy the largest knee- and headroom in this class. Also the luggage compartment is top notch, with its volume of 415 to 1,380 litres. ŠKODA Rapid Spaceback is a well thought out compact car with many “Simply Clever” solutions. One of the many clever features is the secondary boot floor, which makes it possible to divide the luggage compartment into two horizontal levels. And of course, there is also an ice-scraper under the fuel cap. There are also lots of holders, nets and hooks all around the interior.

The engine range comprises of four petrol and two diesel units. The Rapid model range will also include the GreenLine version with CO2 emissions of just 99 g/km. When it comes to the crew protection, the Rapid Spaceback scores with a large array of both active and passive safety features.

Thoroughly revised ŠKODA Yeti – now in two design variations

The launch of a revised version on Frankfurt International Motor Show gives a new impulse to the Yeti model range. This popular compact SUV will be available in two design variations from now on. While the model called simply Yeti was designed in the rhythm of a big city, the Yeti Outdoor is playing the adventurous note. In substantial reworking, both variations received all new front and rear parts. The “city” Yeti has also body-coloured bumpers, side protective mouldings and door sill, while the Outdoor variation has these parts made of black plastic.

In both variations, the ŠKODA Yeti will grab attention with its wide configuration options. For both variations, there are seven different engines available; the option of front wheel drive or all wheel drive with fifth generation Haldex coupling; manual transmissions, or DSG dual-clutch gearboxes. Besides that, the model comes with new designs of light alloy wheels, new interior design features, like steering wheels, new seat fabrics or decorative trim pieces. And there are technical innovations, too: as a first ŠKODA car, the Yeti can be equipped with a parking camera.

„ŠKODA Yeti is doing great not only in the showrooms, but also on the roads or in rough terrain,” says Werner Eichhorn, member of the ŠKODA board member for the sales and marketing. “In its revised form, the ŠKODA Yeti is now even more attractive and versatile. This way, we want to strengthen our market positions even further.”

The biggest model offensive in the brand’s history has successfully launched
The new ŠKODA rapid Spaceback and revised ŠKODA Yeti are the latest additions to the greatest model offensive in almost 118 year history of the brand. This offensive is one of the pillars of the ŠKODA Growth Strategy, which aims at increasing the brand's annual sales to at least 1.5 million cars by the 2018.

To achieve this, the brand will launch, in average, one new or revised model every 6 months. In its plans, ŠKODA AUTO also counts on strengthening its position on growth markets like China or Russia. Besides international growth markets, ŠKODA AUTO also increases its presence in Europe, where it wants to grow its market share from current approximately four percent to more than five.

The Red-Hot Czech Racer: ŠKODA 1100 OHC at ‘Schloss Bensberg Classics’

› Great tradition: ŠKODA 1100 OHC Roadster-classic from the 1950s
› ŠKODA Classic is participating again at the fifth vintage car race in and around Bergisch Gladbach
› The brand is showing off their sporty genes in 2013

Mladá Boleslav, 5 September 2013 – ŠKODA will be presenting a rare highlight at the annual meeting for collectors and admirers of high-profile classic automobiles: ŠKODA has registered the ŠKODA 1100 OHC from 1958 in the ‘Schloss Bensberg Classics’ on the 7th and 8th of September. In addition to its unique design, the classic car has more special features, such as a fiberglass body and a four-cylinder engine with overhead valve control. The ŠKODA will be taking part in the ‘Rallye Historique’, starting and finishing the vintage car race at the castle in picturesque Bergisch Land.

ŠKODA has been at the ‘Schloss Bensberg Classics’ since the first one in Bergisch Gladbach in 2009 and will be participating this year for the fifth time at the vintage car event. The Czech brand – one of the longest-established car producers worldwide – will be there with a very rare piece from their collection that will appeal not only to car enthusiasts: the ŠKODA 1100 OHC from 1958. After around two years of development, this roadster was first introduced to the public in June, 1958 in a race in Mladá Boleslav – the birthplace of the company. The great victory by a huge margin made it clear that the combination of a glass reinforced plastic (GRP) body and the four-cylinder engine with 1089 cc displacement, overhead OHC valve control and an output of 92 hp at 7,700 revolutions per minute had great potential.

Worldwide, there is only one other ŠKODA 1100 OHC Roadster owned by ŠKODA UK. Later, only two coupes with a closed aluminium body were produced. ŠKODA Classic has thus chosen another highlight from their portfolio for the fifth occasion of this exclusive vintage car event.

Bensberg Castle in Bergisch Gladbach is located near the city of Cologne. The castle hotel grounds and surroundings have been transformed every year since 2009 at the beginning of September into an exclusive venue for the classic cars presented there during the race or in the competition of elegance ‘Concours d'Elegance’.

The ŠKODA 1100 OHC will be talking part in the 2013 ‘Rallye Historique’. In this competition, which is measured to the millimetre and hundredth of a second, the drivers’ precision is of the highest importance. The focus is on consistency checks and dexterity tasks. The competition involves separate ratings for mechanical and electronic instruments; in 2013 only cars built before 1983 are allowed. The tour through theBergisch Land region with its winding, picturesque side roads, numerous ascents and descents is a demanding rally layout. The start and finish will be at the Castle Bensberg Grand Hotel with a stop at the Park by Castle Lerbach Hotel.

Last year several ŠKODA classics won at the Schloss Bensberg Classics. As part of the star-studded ‘Rallye Historique’, the elegant coupe ŠKODA Popular Monte Carlo won category 3 "built before 1945, Hourglass". Also in category 2 of the rally (built between 1946 and 1979, Electronic), the 2012 ŠKODA 130 RS from Team ŠKODA Auto Deutschland came up trumps.

2013 will mark the fifth time that the ‘Schloss Bensberg Classics’ has taken place. The event is one of the most important venues for classic cars, representing the glorious highlights of automotive history. The ‘Schloss Bensberg Classics’ was included in the ‘Louis Vuitton Classic Concours Awards’ three years ago and is thus in on par with prestigious competitions such as in Pebble Beach, California and Villa d'Este, Italy.

ŠKODA Rapid Spaceback: Premiere at International Motor Show in Frankfurt

› Youthful ŠKODA compact hatchback gets well-earned attention at the VW Group Night
› The first entry of ŠKODA brand to the important segment of compact family hatchbacks
› Rapid Spaceback will be launched on European markets from October 2013
› ŠKODA AUTO model offensive continues

Mladá Boleslav/Frankfurt am Main, 9 September 2013 – ŠKODA AUTO launched its first entry to the strong segment of compact family hatchbacks. On the VW Group Night, held at the International Motor Show in Frankfurt am Main, a new and youthful ŠKODA Rapid Spaceback compact family car was unveiled. The new model will start entering European markets in October 2013. For Czech automaker, this means further expanding the model range and continuing the largest model offensive in the history of the brand.

„ŠKODA AUTO is keeping the pace. The new Rapid Spaceback is a milestone in the history of our brand - it's the first hatchback to open our door into the strongest market segment in Europe,” says ŠKODA AUTO CEO Prof. Dr. h.c. Winfried Vahland. „Our youthful new model brings many new features to this segment and adds typical ŠKODA qualities to the hatchback body style, all wrapped up in fresh and dynamic design.”

The Rapid Spaceback fills in the gap between the Fabia and Octavia in the ŠKODA model range. With its fresh and dynamic style, it aims especially at young customers and families. It will get the attention with its clear, strong design language: it differs from competing models both visually and functionally. Its offer of space sets new standards for the compact family hatchback market segment. In addition to this, it comes with many practical “Simply Clever” features. ŠKODA Rapid Spaceback comes to European markets with four petrol and two diesel engines. Power outputs range from 55 kW to 90 kW.

ŠKODA Rapid Spaceback is the latest new car launched during the largest model offensive in the history of the brand. In the year 2013 alone, eight new or revised ŠKODA models will be launched, and Czech automaker still enters new market segments. Latest aditions to the model range were Citigo and Rapid models, offering whole new options for new customers. Within the “ŠKODA 2018 Growth Strategy,” the brand is aiming to increase its annual sales to at least 1.5 million cars.

GreenLine: ŠKODA Octavia emits a mere 87 g of CO2/km

› Most efficient ŠKODA Octavia of all time: New Octavia GreenLine achieves consumption of a mere 3.3 l diesel/100 km, emissions of 87 g of CO2/km
› ŠKODA offers GreenLine versions for nearly the entire model series
› Natural gas-powered ŠKODA Citigo: 79 g of CO2 emissions per km
› 81 ŠKODA models already emit less than 120 g CO2/km, 11 of them even less than 100 g CO2/km

Mladá Boleslav/Frankfurt am Main, 10 September 2013 – ŠKODA expands its offering of economical and low-emissions GreenLine models: At the Frankfurt International Motor Show, the company will present the environmentally friendly GreenLine version of the new ŠKODA Octavia. This model uses a mere 3.3 l of diesel fuel per 100 km and emits 87 g CO2/km. A total of six out of seven ŠKODA model series are available as GreenLine versions, and the ŠKODA Citigo city car has been available with a natural gas-powered engine since October of 2012.

“We are working full steam to further reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions in our vehicles. ŠKODA models are already among the most economical cars in the market, and at an affordable price. Our GreenLine models are prime examples of our efforts in this area,” says Frank Welsch, ŠKODA board member for technical development.

Start-stop system, brake energy recuperation, tyres with reduced rolling-resistance, specific aerodynamics as well as power train improvements and weight reductions – these are ŠKODA’s key GreenLine features. Except for the ŠKODA Citigo, which is available in a particularly economical natural gas-version, each model series will include a GreenLine version in the future. These models bear a special plaque both on the radiator grille and on the tailgate, identifying them as the most economical ŠKODA model version.

The new ŠKODA Octavia GreenLine, which will make its first appearance at the Frankfurt International Motor Show, is powered by an 81 kW 1.6 TDI diesel engine, emitting a mere 87 g CO2/km and boasting an average fuel consumption of just 3.3 l/100 km.

The launch of the new ŠKODA Rapid Spaceback includes GreenLine versions in the Rapid series. For the ŠKODA Rapid GreenLine saloon and the Rapid Spaceback GreenLine the new 66 kW 1.6 TDI diesel engine will be available in November 2013. Both vehicles consume only 3.8 litres of diesel per 100 km and emit 99 g CO2/km.

The redesigned ŠKODA Yeti continues to be available as a GreenLine. Customers also can choose a front-drive 77 kW 1.6 TDI ŠKODA Yeti GreenLine with a manual five-speed transmission. Combined diesel consumption is 4.6 litres per 100 kilometres, and CO2 emissions are 119 g/km.
A few weeks ago, ŠKODA presented the completely redesigned ŠKODA Superb. In the version GreenLine, the brand’s flagship ŠKODA Superb impresses with fuel consumption of 4.2 l/100 km and CO2-emissions of 109 g/km. The ŠKODA Superb Combi GreenLine, with manual six-speed transmission instead of a manual five-speed transmission, consumes 4.3 l/100 km and emits 113 g CO2/km. Both the ŠKODA Superb GreenLine and the ŠKODA Superb Combi GreenLine come with a 77 kW (105 hp) 1.6 TDI diesel engine.

The ŠKODA Fabia GreenLine is one of the most economical models in its segment. Powered by a 55 kW 1.2 TDI engine and manual five-speed transmission, combined fuel consumption is a mere 3.4 l/100 km, and CO2-emissions are a very low 88 g/km. The same numbers apply to the ŠKODA Fabia Combi GreenLine.

The ŠKODA Roomster is about economical operation and low CO2 emissions. The ŠKODA Roomster GreenLine with a 55 kW 1.2 TDI engine and manual five-speed transmission uses 4.2 l/100 km and emits 109 g CO2 per km.

The ŠKODA Citigo is the brand’s first standard natural gas-powered model. The ŠKODA Citigo CNG emits 79 g of CO2/km. These numbers are achieved thanks to Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) and the Green tec technical package, which includes a start-stop system, brake energy recuperation, rolling-resistance optimised tyres. The 50 kW (68 hp) engine consumes an average of 4.4 m3 or 2.9 kg natural gas per 100 km, and maximum range is 620 km (400 km on natural gas, plus 220 km on petrol stored in an auxiliary tank on board). In August 2013, fuel-saver champion Gerhard Plattner achieved a special record with ŠKODA’s Citigo CNG: On a five-day journey, he used an average 2.39 kg of natural gas/100 km and emitted 65 g CO2/km on his way from Italy to Stockholm, Sweden, through nine European countries. The entire journey of 2,619 km cost a mere € 81.24 in fuel.

‘The Power of ŠKODA’: Two World Premieres at the Frankfurt International Motor Show

› Double strike: The new ŠKODA Rapid Spaceback and the redesigned ŠKODA Yeti continue ŠKODA’s model offensive
› Rapid Spaceback: ŠKODA's young compact hatchback
› Redesigned ŠKODA Yeti in two design variations: Yeti and Yeti Outdoor
› ŠKODA model range now includes seven model series
› Deliveries from January to July reach 534,300 units
› ŠKODA in 1,732 m2 exhibit in Hall 3.0 at the Frankfurt International Motor Show

Mladá Boleslav/Frankfurt am Main, September 2013 – At this year’s Frankfurt International Motor Show, ŠKODA makes headlines with the world premiere of two new models, the new Rapid Spaceback and the completely redesigned ŠKODA Yeti, increasing the number of model series in the model range to a total of seven. This year, ŠKODA will launch eight new or redesigned models and plans to increase its sales to at least 1.5 million per year by 2018. In the first seven months of 2013 alone, ŠKODA delivered 534,300 vehicles to customers.

“The largest model offensive in the company’s history confirms ŠKODA’s position as a high-volume brand in international automobile markets,” says ŠKODA’s CEO Winfried Vahland. “Our new and expanded model range reinforces our brand at the Frankfurt International Motor Show. The steady expansion of our product offering is proof of our company’s and our team’s competitiveness. With its space, features, and design offering, the ŠKODA Rapid Spaceback sets new standards in its segment. Despite difficult market situations, we remain committed to growth. We aim to sell at least 1.5 million cars per year by 2018,” says Vahland.

In Frankfurt, the brand’s strength will be more visible than ever before. ŠKODA’s portfolio now includes seven model series: from the sub-compact ŠKODA Citigo to the Fabia and Roomster, the compact Rapid Limousine, the new Rapid Spaceback, the Octavia model series and the Superb to the Yeti. All ŠKODAs now sport the new logo and newly designed lettering.

ŠKODA Rapid Spaceback: The new class in the compact hatchback segment

The Rapid Spaceback is ŠKODA’s new offering in the high-volume compact segment. “As the first ŠKODA hatchback model in the compact class, the ŠKODA Rapid Spaceback is another milestone for the brand,” says ŠKODA head of development Frank Welsch. “It is a first for us to have a representative in the strongest European car segment. The ŠKODA Rapid Spaceback is the perfect car for young people and families,” says Welsch.
The ŠKODA Rapid Spaceback combines dynamically fresh design with the excellent ŠKODA qualities we expect and thus distinguishes itself both visually and functionally from its competition. “The new Rapid Spaceback is an attractive new offering in its class, a vehicle with a high degree of independence and an unmatched package,” says Welsch.

Visually clear and distinct, the ŠKODA Rapid Spaceback sports the new ŠKODA design. Compared with conventional hatchback models, the car appears significantly longer when viewed from the side. The Rapid Spaceback has many optional features, such as a large panoramic sunroof and a long rear window. The new brand appearance marks the front: A new logo on the bonnet ‘nose’, a distinctive grille, headlamps and fog lights arranged in a cloverleaf pattern. The rear design underscores horizontal lines and sports ŠKODA’s typical ‘C’-shaped lights.

The interior appears particularly fresh and youthful. Rapid Spaceback customers can choose new 3-spoke steering wheels, new fabrics and new trim lines. In addition to being stylishly sporty, the interior offers plenty of room for all passengers. Passengers in the rear enjoy the most knee room and headroom in the entire segment, while the boot sets new standards with its volume of 415 to 1,380 litres.

The ŠKODA Rapid Spaceback is a smart compact to the core that includes many ‘Simply Clever’ solutions, such as the double cargo floor in the boot, which divides the floor into two horizontal compartments when needed, an ice scraper inside the fuel filler flap, many holders for daily items, restraining nets and hooks.

The range of engines includes four petrol and two diesel versions. Shortly after market launch of the Rapid Spaceback, ŠKODA will introduce a GreenLine version with 99 g CO2 emissions per kilometre. In terms of safety, the Rapid Spaceback protects occupants with numerous active and passive safety features.

ŠKODA Yeti completely revised – now in two design variations

A completely redesigned ŠKODA Yeti is certain to be a highlight at the Frankfurt International Motor Show. For the first time, this popular compact SUV is available in two variations: the ŠKODA Yeti styled for urban use, and the ŠKODA Yeti Outdoor, ready for adventures. Both designs sport a new front and rear design, a fresh interior, all-wheel or front-wheel drive, and expanded engine/transmission combinations. European market launch is scheduled by the end of 2013.

“The ŠKODA Yeti’s progress has been stellar since its launch four years ago, and it has exceeded our expectations by far. Impressive numbers both on- and off-road are proof of its power,“ says Werner Eichhorn, ŠKODA board member for sales and marketing. “The new edition will make the ŠKODA Yeti even more attractive and versatile. In the popular SUV segment, we are definitely geared for growth.”

The ŠKODA Yeti has been completely redesigned and now appears with an entirely new front and rear in the new ŠKODA design language. In addition to this redesign, ŠKODA plans to introduce a second distinct line of design. The compact SUV is now available either as a primarily urban-styled Yeti or as a Yeti Outdoor with specific off-road features. While on the urban-type Yeti, visible design elements, such as the bumper, underride guard, side trim and door sills all are kept in the same colour as the vehicle itself, the outdoor variation sports black plastic elements that match its off-road look.

Both ŠKODA Yeti variations are impressively versatile. Customers can choose between seven different engines, front or all-wheel-drive with Haldex 5 clutch, and numerous engine-transmission combinations including DSG gearboxes. The ŠKODA Yeti also sports new aluminium rims and new interior design elements, such as a 3-spoke steering wheel with different design options, new fabrics and decoration as well as innovative engineering features, such as an optional rear view camera, a first in a ŠKODA model.

Largest model offensive in company history launched successfully

The new ŠKODA Rapid Spaceback and the redesigned ŠKODA Yeti are the manufacturer’s newest innovations within the largest model offensive in ŠKODA’s 118-year history.

“Over the last two years, we have redesigned or fundamentally revamped a large part of our model series and increased our product offering from five to seven models,” says ŠKODA CEO Vahland. “We have never had a model offensive of this dimension at ŠKODA.”

The new Octavia - great reviews

The new ŠKODA Octavia’s performance in the markets is just one example of how well-liked the new model series are. “Media and customer response to the new Octavia has been very positive,” says Eichhorn, board member for sales and marketing. With the help of the third-generation Octavia, the manufacturer aims to sell half a million per year, which would rank the model among the top ten worldwide.

The new Octavia’s position in its class is now proving stronger than ever. Both the limousine and the estate boast unrivalled space, new design, high functionality, innovative safety and comfort systems, fuel economy, numerous ‘Simply Clever’ solutions, and the typical ŠKODA value.

Focus on emerging markets

With plans to keep the pace over the next few years, ŠKODA’s growth strategy aims to increase sales to at least 1.5 million vehicles per year by 2018. In the coming years, the manufacturer will introduce one new or redesigned car every six months on average.

ŠKODA’s plans also include expansions in the growing markets of China and Russia. “ŠKODA has been successful in these countries for many years. We will strive to continue this positive growth in the coming years,“ says ŠKODA head of sales Eichhorn.

China is established as the brand’s strongest single market. Since the market entry in 2007, roughly one million ŠKODA models have already rolled off the manufacturing lines at Shanghai Volkswagen, the company’s local partner. In the first seven months of 2013, about one-fourth of ŠKODA deliveries went to the Chinese market. In the coming years, the brand aims to increase sales in China to about half a million per year, focussing on a significant expansion of the model range in the country and increasing the number of ŠKODA models offered and locally manufactured in China from three to six models by mid-2014.

In Russia, ŠKODA maintains manufacturing plants in two locations. Currently, Russia is the third-strongest ŠKODA sales market worldwide, and number two in Europe. The Russian GAZ plant in Nizhny Novgorod rolled out its first ŠKODA Octavia just a few weeks ago and is set to produce the redesigned ŠKODA Yeti. The manufacturer plans to start building the ŠKODA Rapid at the Volkswagen plant in Kaluga in early 2014.

The new Octavia recently began rolling off production lines in India.

In addition to international growth markets, ŠKODA continues to expand in Europe. “Europe remains one of our key markets,“ says Eichhorn. The brand aims to increase its market share from roughly four per cent to over five per cent. Therefore, ŠKODA has been investing in its locations in the Czech Republic, extensively expanding and modernising the company’s main location in Mladá Boleslav for the production of the ŠKODA Rapid/Rapid Spaceback and the new ŠKODA Octavia. ŠKODA is also currently building its technology and development centre in Česana near the headquarters in Mladá Boleslav.

Deliveries in 2013

The current economic climate, numerous model changes and production start-ups have had an effect on this year’s sales performance. During the first seven months of 2013 ŠKODA delivered a total of 534,300 vehicles, 5.5 per cent less than the in the same period of the previous year.

After production start of the ŠKODA Octavia at the Mladá Boleslav main plant, production in Russia is ramping up as well. Production of the new ŠKODA Rapid is currently ramped up in China, and that of the ŠKODA Octavia in India. The most intense year of ŠKODA’s model offensive is also seeing a fundamental redesign of the ŠKODA Superb and ŠKODA Yeti.

‘The Power of ŠKODA’: ŠKODA’s New Model Range

› From Citigo to Superb: ŠKODA now offers seven model series
› Model offensive: The core of ŠKODA’s growth strategy
› Attractive and fresh offering, from city car to midsize vehicles
› World premieres: The new Rapid Spaceback and a completely redesigned Yeti
› Successful launch: Citigo, Rapid, and Rapid Spaceback conquer new segments
› Eight new or redesigned models in 2013 alone
› The model offensive continues: One new or redesigned ŠKODA model on average every six months

Mladá Boleslav/Frankfurt am Main, September 2013 – At this year’s Frankfurt International Motor Show, ŠKODA confirms its brand position with a new and redesigned model range. Exactly two years ago the manufacturer marked the launch of the largest model offensive in its history. ŠKODA has been continuously overhauling and expanding its range of vehicles since then. This extensive model offensive is the core of ŠKODA’s Growth Strategy 2018, which aims to increase the company’s worldwide sales to at least 1.5 million vehicles per year by 2018.

“Over the last 24 months, we have put a major effort into driving the ŠKODA Growth Strategy in all areas,” says ŠKODA’s CEO Winfried Vahland. “We have kept what we promised two years ago. Here at the Frankfurt International Motor Show, we present the preliminary results: a highly attractive, redesigned model range. That’s ŠKODA power – from the city car, the Citigo, to our completely redesigned flagships, the Superb and Superb Combi. We will continue the model offensive over the next few years,” says Vahland.

ŠKODA‘s vehicle offering is more attractive than ever before and includes models that have been introduced or completely redesigned since late 2011: the new ŠKODA Citigo; the new ŠKODA Rapid; the new ŠKODA Octavia, Octavia Combi, Octavia Combi 4x4 and Octavia RS; and the completely redesigned ŠKODA Superb and Superb Combi. The newest highlights in Frankfurt will be the new ŠKODA Rapid Spaceback and the completely redesigned ŠKODA Yeti, available in two variations. The existing Fabia and Roomster models began sporting the new logo in early 2013.

Delighting customers with a new model range

ŠKODA’s model offensive is the core of the company’s growth strategy, which was introduced in 2011. “Our growth strategy has enabled us to set the course for a complete repositioning of our product offering as we capture new car segments and win new customers for our brand,” says Vahland.

The company aims to increase its vehicle sales to at least 1.5 million per year by 2018. “Our growth strategy has yielded good results,” Vahland continues. From 2010 to 2012 the brand’s deliveries increased by 23 per cent or 180,000 vehicles, and the model range grew from five to seven model series. “This makes us one of the few growing volume brands in Europe,” says ŠKODA’s CEO.

In many markets and segments, the company’s success is obvious. ŠKODA is currently the leading foreign brand in the German market and the third-strongest brand overall in the German private customer market, and in 2012, the Octavia Combi even became the best-selling estate in Europe. On top of this, one out of five Octavia Combis sold in 2012 was an all-wheel drive. In Scandinavia, Switzerland and Austria, the traditional European all-wheel markets, ŠKODA is often a first choice for customers. In their home market, the Czech Republic, one out of three new cars sold bears the ŠKODA logo, the winged arrow. In Central Europe, the brand has captured a market share of nearly 19 per cent. In China, ŠKODA’s success story is particularly impressive as the country now accounts for one fourth of the brand’s worldwide sales, making China ŠKODA’s largest single market.

Numerous recent awards for the brand and its models recently reflect the company’s success. In 2012 alone, ŠKODA received over 100 national and international awards, and thus far, 2013 looks just as promising. In the UK, 46,000 readers of Auto Express magazine voted the ŠKODA Yeti the car with the most satisfied customers in the UK, with a total of three ŠKODA models ranked in the top six.

2013: Eight new or redesigned ŠKODA models

2013 is the year of new ŠKODA models as the brand launches no less than eight new or completely redesigned ŠKODAs. Customers in the market for ŠKODA’s absolute best-seller, the ŠKODA Octavia, have a choice of four attractive versions: the limousine, the Combi, the Combi 4x4, and the Octavia RS power version. “The Octavia is the ŠKODA per se – it is the heart of the brand,” says ŠKODA’s CEO Vahland. More than ever, the third-generation ŠKODA Octavia confirms its unique position in its class, offering plenty of space, a new design, high functionality, innovative safety and comfort systems, economical engines, numerous ‘Simply Clever’ solutions, and excellent value. Versions range from the family estate car to the Octavia RS, the fastest Octavia of all time with a top speed of 248 km/h.

Successful debut in new car segments

Conquering new segments is an important aspect of the model offensive, and ŠKODA successfully launched its first small city car, the ŠKODA Citigo, in late 2011. Over 30,000 have been sold to date.

Introduced in the autumn of 2012, the ŠKODA Rapid expands the brand’s offering in the segment between Fabia and Octavia.

From October 2013, the ŠKODA Rapid Spaceback will enter markets as the brand’s first hatchback model in the high-volume compact segment. The Spaceback is an addition to the brand’s model range and introduces the company as a competitor in the compact hatchback market, Europe’s strongest car segment.

In entering a new segment, ŠKODA makes a point of always meeting particular standards. Wherever a new ŠKODA makes its appearance, it will always offer ‘a little extra car’. Each model provides excellent value, particularly with regard to space and functionality. “We are committed to setting standards in the segments in which we compete,” says Vahland. All seven ŠKODA model series offer ample space and numerous ‘Simply Clever’ solutions, such as the ingenious storage of the ice scraper inside the fuel filler flap. Other values include top vehicle safety ratings, low fuel consumption and emissions, excellent value for the money, and a timelessly elegant design.

A new or redesigned model every six months

In the coming years, ŠKODA’s focus will be on growth with new models. A new or completely redesigned ŠKODA will be launched every six months on average. In addition to the Rapid Spaceback and the fresh new Yeti, which is already available in two different variations, the manufacturer is working on a new, larger SUV. “We intend to continue our growth path even in these economically challenging times. New models are the best recipe against weak markets,” says Vahland.

ŠKODA increases European market shares in August

› ŠKODA delivers over 64,000 vehicles worldwide in August 2013; January to August: 598,400 deliveries
› ŠKODA’s European market share expands
› New models successfully launched:  Western European deliveries of new ŠKODA Octavia +12.7% in August
› ŠKODA model campaign continues with new ŠKODA Rapid Spaceback and completely redesigned ŠKODA Yeti

Mladá Boleslav, 12 September 2013 – ŠKODA gained market shares in Europe this August and once again outperformed the overall market. Despite difficult economic conditions, the brand increased their deliveries in some European markets, including the Czech home market, where the market share grew to 38.2% with over 4,400 deliveries.

ŠKODA sold 64,000 vehicles worldwide in August (August 2012: 67,700; -5.4%). Between January and August, ŠKODA delivered 598,400 cars to customers (January to August 2012: 633,300; -5.5%). So far this year, the development of deliveries, in the context of model renewal, has been influenced by the production start-ups and corresponding capacity limitations of the new ŠKODA Octavia and completely revised ŠKODA Superb. Likewise, the production of the ŠKODA models Rapid Spaceback and Yeti, launched at the Frankfurt Motor Show, is in its ramp-up phase as part of the brand’s current model campaign. The globally difficult market conditions also had a negative influence on ŠKODA’s deliveries in August. By 2018, ŠKODA plans to have increased annual customer deliveries by at least 1.5 million through their expanded model range.

“In a persistently difficult economic environment, ŠKODA demonstrated their strength in August and developed better than the European market,” says Werner Eichhorn, ŠKODA Board Member for Sales and Marketing. “Our new models are very well received by customers. Deliveries of the new ŠKODA Octavia in August were 12.7% up on last year and, in principle, we remain confident for the rest of the year. Our global orders coming in over the first eight months of 2013 have so far been extremely positive.”

ŠKODA is vigorously pursuing their model campaign in the fourth quarter of 2013. As early as October, the new ŠKODA Rapid Spaceback – ŠKODA’s young compact - will be launched on the markets. It is the first compact ŠKODA hatchback and the Czechs’ entry into the strongest vehicle segment in Europe. In addition to the Rapid Spaceback, the completely redesigned ŠKODA Yeti also celebrated its highly acclaimed world premiere a few days ago at the Frankfurt Motor Show.  Now the popular SUV, available for the first time in two versions, the ŠKODA Yeti and ŠKODA Yeti Outdoor, will be introduced on the first European markets at the end of 2013.

In Western Europe, ŠKODA developed once again better than the weak overall market in August. The market share has remained stable at over 3% for the first eight months. In total, the Czech brand delivered 21,400 vehicles to western European customers in August, thus remaining at almost the same level as last year (August 2012: 21,700 units; -1.4 %). On their second strongest global market, Germany, ŠKODA is expanding their position as a dynamic volume brand; deliveries to German customers totalled 8,800 (August 2012: 9,200; -3.8 %) in an overall significantly weaker market. In the UK, ŠKODA grew by 15.7% to 2,200 vehicles sold.  The brand recorded double-digit growth in the Netherlands (900 vehicles, up 43.2%), Denmark (1,000 vehicles, up 27.2%), Finland (700 vehicles, up 15.2%) and Ireland (300 vehicles, up 55.2%). In Switzerland ŠKODA deliveries rose by 2.1% to 1,200 units in Italy by 1.6% to 600 cars and in Austria with 1,300 vehicles by almost 1%.

In Eastern Europe 10,500 vehicles went to ŠKODA customers (August 2012: 11,300; -7.2%). ŠKODA’s market share has grown to the current 4%. In the Ukraine deliveries grew by 15.1% to 1,500 vehicles and in Kazakhstan even by 134.4 % to 400 vehicles. In Russia – ŠKODA’s the third largest individual market – the Czechs sold 7,100 cars (August 2012: 8,300; -14.6%). The decline has been essentially dominated by the weakness of the Russian market in general.

In Central Europe, ŠKODA delivered 8,500 vehicles in August (August 2012: 8,500; -0.6%). While the overall market declined by nearly 5%, the Czech brand maintains the level of the same month last year and have increased their market share to 19.40%. ŠKODA achieved strong results in their Czech home market, where sales volumes increased by 4.5% to over 4,400 vehicles (August 2012: 4,300). The market share in August stood at 38.2 % and reached almost 35% cumulatively for the first eight months.

With 18,100 deliveries in August, China was again the strongest ŠKODA sales market (August 2012: 19,700 units; -7.9%), where between January and August, 156,300 ŠKODA cars were delivered to customers (January to August 2012: 159,400; -1.9%).

ŠKODA’s customer deliveries – August 2013 (in units, rounded to the nearest 100 and arranged according to model; +/- % compared to August 2012):

ŠKODA Octavia (25,400; -16.0 %)
ŠKODA Fabia (13,300; -12.7 %)
ŠKODA Superb (6,900; -17.3 %)
ŠKODA Yeti (4,900; -23.0 %)
ŠKODA Roomster (2,300; -21.8 %)
ŠKODA Rapid (8,300; +410.8 %)
ŠKODA Citigo (only sold in Europe: 3,000; -1.2 %)

Emotional Czech Trio: Three ŠKODA classics at the Hamburg-Berlin Klassik

› The 1101 Roadster, Felicia and 1000 MB Rally – three ŠKODA legends at the starting line
› ŠKODA’s fourth appearance at the Northern Rally
› Sixth anniversary of the Hamburg-Berlin Klassik from 19 to 21 September

Mladá Boleslav, 19 September 2013 – ŠKODA are entering this year’s Hamburg-Berlin Klassik with three vintage cars. The Czech brand will be presenting two exciting convertibles – the ŠKODA 1101 Roadster and ŠKODA Felicia as well as the ŠKODA 1000 MB Rallye – a racy sports car. The sixth Hamburg-Berlin Klassik takes place this year from 19 to 21 September from Berlin to Hamburg.

“The Hamburg-Berlin Klassik is a highlight in the annual vintage car calendar,” says Dr. Frank Welsch, ŠKODA Board Member for Technical Development. “With two convertibles and a sports car, we are sending a particularly attractive, elegant and sporty trio to the track this year.”

The elegant ŠKODA 1101 roadster, better known as the 'Tudor', dates back to 1948 and represents the post-war era of the brand. The Tudor is powered by a 1089cc, 32hp, four-cylinder engine. ŠKODA produced more than 80,000 of the model between 1946 and 1952. The vehicle taking part in this year’s Hamburg-Berlin Klassik has been a part of the ŠKODA museum’s collection since 1969 and had previously been privately owned for over 20 years.

The 1961 ŠKODA Felicia also belongs to the historical collection in Mladá Boleslav. An elegant body shape, distinctive tail fin, lacquered turquoise-blue and that cream-coloured interior – the Felicia really sets vintage car enthusiasts’ hearts racing. The Czech manufacturer built around 15,000 such models between 1959 and 1964. A hardtop version was also produced alongside the convertible but only a few cars can still be seen today. The Felicia weighs in at a mere 930 kg and reaches a top speed of 130 km/h. The car features a four-cylinder 50hp 1,089cc petrol engine.

The brand’s sporty genes are best represented by the 1968 ŠKODA 1000 MB Rallye. This car has taken part in several endurance races, including the 1995 London-Mexico rally. Under the bonnet, you will find a sports-adapted, 90hp, 1,300cc, four-cylinder engine with a top speed of 170 km/h.

2013 marks the sixth anniversary of the three-day Hamburg-Berlin Klassik with this year’s route stretching over 800 km from Berlin to Hamburg. The kick-off for this journey, also known as the ‘Northern Rally’ is on 19 September at the Berlin Olympic Station. The destination is the Port of Hamburg on 21 September. A total of 180historically important vehicles built before 1993 will be making the trip. The event is
organized by ‘Auto Bild Klassik’ magazine.

› Production in the Czech Republic, India, Russia and China
› 3,253,817 ŠKODA Fabias sold since 1999 – best-selling ŠKODA model after the Octavia

Mladá Boleslav, 20 September 2013 – Small car, great success: ŠKODA has just produced the 1,500,000th second-generation ŠKODA Fabia. The jubilee vehicle, a Fabia 1.2 TDI, rolled off the production line today at the main factory in Mladá Boleslav. The current generation Fabia has delighted customers on international markets since 2007. The ŠKODA Fabia celebrated its sales debut in 1999. Having sold 3,253,817 first and second generation Fabias to date, the small car is the Czech car manufacturer’s best-selling model, after the ŠKODA Octavia with 3,984,821 sales worldwide.

“The ŠKODA Fabia has been of crucial importance to the success of the ŠKODA brand,” says ŠKODA CEO Prof. Dr. h.c. Winfried Vahland. “Producing 1.5 million vehicles since 2007 is proof of the outstanding development of the Fabia and indicates how well the customers perceive the current generation. In Europe and other international markets, the Fabia is our best-selling model after the Octavia and a cornerstone of our growth.”

The ŠKODA Fabia was launched in 1999 as the brand’s third new model. 1,788,063 of the first generation were produced over a period of eight years. Production started on the second generation in 2007, firstly as a hatchback and then, in 2008, also as a Combi. An exact total of 3,253,817 ŠKODA Fabias (both generations) were delivered to customers between 1999 and August 2013.

Since its launch in 1999, the ŠKODA Fabia has been a ŠKODA in the truest sense: lots of space combined with compact external dimensions, a host of practical solutions and low fuel consumption. Sophisticated technology and excellent value for money make the Fabia one of the most popular small cars in its class.
With four versions and attractive special models, the ŠKODA Fabia boasts tremendous versatility. The Fabia is available on European markets as a hatchback, Combi, the adventurous Fabia Scout and the sporty Fabia RS. A very environmentally friendly GreenLine version is also available. The ŠKODA Fabia GreenLine runs on only 3.4 l/100 km, with corresponding CO2-emissions of only 88 g/km. ŠKODA additionally offer fantastic special editions of the small car, such as the Fabia Monte Carlo and Fabia Combi Monte Carlo, which pay tribute to ŠKODA’S 112-year successful history in motorsports.

Keyword Motorsport: The ŠKODA Fabia is also the basis for one of the most successful rally cars of recent years: the ŠKODA Fabia Super 2000. The Czech car manufacturer has achieved great success in international rallies with this car: ŠKODA won titles in 2012 for both the brand and driver with the Fabia Super 2000 at the IRC, also winning the European Rally Championship, the Asia-Pacific Rally Championship (APRC) as well as six national championships. The ŠKODA Fabia Super 2000 is doing extremely well in the current season at the European rally championship and the APRC.
