ŠKODA continues its CNG offensive with the new ŠKODA Octavia G-TEC

› Launch of the new ŠKODA Octavia G-TEC and new Octavia Combi G-TEC in June
› First ŠKODA Octavia with natural gas drive as standard; 97 g CO2/km
› High-performance technology: bivalent turbo engine 1.4 TSI/81 kW
› The ultimate in fuel economy: up to 1,330 km with natural gas and petrol
› ŠKODA Citigo G-TEC has enjoyed market success since 2012; only 79 g CO2/km
› Natural gas is the environmentally-friendly, cost-effective alternative

Mladá Boleslav, 19 May 2014 – Expanding its environmentally-friendly model range, ŠKODA is renewing its emphasis on compressed natural gas vehicles. The new ŠKODA Octavia G-TEC and the new ŠKODA Octavia Combi G-TEC will be given their market premiere in June. This will increase the brand’s CNG range to three models. Since the end of 2012, the little natural gas-drive Citigo has been successfully touring the European markets.

“With the new Octavia G-TEC and the Octavia Combi G-TEC, our model range is becoming even more environmentally-friendly,” says Dr Frank Welsch, ŠKODA Board Member for Technical Development. “CNG is a practical way forward for environmentallyfriendly driving and is good value for money these days. Using CNG, we can meet customer demand for eco-friendly, economical and affordable vehicles,” says Dr. Welsch.

The market launch of the Octavia G-TEC and the Octavia Combi G-TEC will take place in several stages from June 2014 in Belgium, Denmark, Germany, Finland, France, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Austria, Sweden, Switzerland, Slovakia, Slovenia and the Czech Republic.

Bivalent turbo engine 1.4 TSI/81 kW Green tec with a range of up to 1,330 km

The new ŠKODA Octavia G-TECs, saloon and estate, have a 1.4 TSI turbo engine with a capacity of 81 kW (110 PS) and will run on petrol and CNG. CNG stands for compressed natural gas. Both natural gas Octavia vehicles are fitted with the Green tec package as standard, including technical features such as start-stop system and brake energy recovery. The modern engine meets standard EU-6, which comes into force in September 2014.

The ranges of the new Octavia G-TEC are impressive: in CNG-only mode, the Octavia GTEC and the Octavia Combi G-TEC can travel up to 410 km without refuelling. Fuel consumption is 5.4 m3 (3.5 kg) of natural gas per 100 km, with CO2 emissions of just 97 g/km. In petrol-only mode, the range is up to 920 km. The Octavia G-TEC will travel up to 1,330 km on a single tank of fuel.

For all the Octavia G-TEC’s fuel economy, it is still a fun car to drive. The maximum torque of 200 Nm is achieved between 1,500 and 3,500 rpm. The Octavia G-TEC saloon accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 10.9 seconds. Top speed is 195 km/h.

The two CNG tanks have a total maximum capacity of 97 litres or 15 kg of CNG at a pressure of 200 bar. They are mounted in the form of underbody tanks on a special frame underneath the floor of the boot. The ingenious position of the tanks means that the generous size of the vehicle’s interior is not affected. The CNG-fuelled Octavia also has the best interior values in its class. The boot has a capacity of 460 litres (saloon) or 480 litres (estate).

Success for ŠKODA Citigo G-TEC; more than 1,900 vehicles have already been sold

The Citigo natural gas car became available in October 2012. This clean little car sets new standards in its class when it comes to conserving the earth’s natural resources. Hardly any other car in its class is as eco-friendly, comfortable and safe to drive away in as the natural gas Citigo.

This car uses just 4.4 m3 (2.9 kg) natural gas per 100 km, with CO2 emissions of just 79 g/km. The total range is 620 km (400 km gas, 220 km petrol). As with the Octavia G-TEC, two underbody tanks are mounted, next to the 10-litre petrol tank, under the chassis floor to save space. The Citigo G-TEC is forging ahead. Since its market launch, ŠKODA has delivered more than 1,900 vehicles to customers, 1,300 in 2013 alone.

Last year, the Citigo G-TEC shared Germany’s Verkehrsclub Deutschland (VCD) title of most environmentally-friendly vehicle of the year with affiliated models of other Volkswagen Group brands. Last year, one record-breaking journey in particular raised the Citigo G-TEC’s profile. In August 2013, Austrian fuel-saving champion Gerhard Plattner drove the Citigo CNG from Vicenza in Italy to Stockholm in Sweden, taking five days at an average fuel consumption of 2.39 kg CNG/100 km.

Natural gas: the environmentally-friendly and cost-effective alternative

Natural gas is clean. The exhaust gases are not only odourless, but contain fewer pollutants than petrol or diesel exhaust gases. The favourable carbon to hydrogen ratio of methane decreases carbon dioxide emissions during combustion. Compared to petrol, the CO2 output is generally reduced by up to 23 % and the proportion of methane hydrocarbons has been reduced by an impressive 73 %. By comparison with a petrol engine of the same capacity, when operated in natural gas mode, around 80 % less carbon monoxide and 80 % less nitrogen oxide are produced. What is more, the closed-circuit system does not give rise to refuelling emissions.

Another advantage of natural gas vehicles is the significantly lower running cost. Depending on the market, natural gas is up to 60 % cheaper than petrol and approximately 40 % cheaper than diesel. In some European countries there are also tax advantages for purchasing a natural gas vehicle.

ŠKODA apprentices' dream car celebrates its première at Wörthersee

› ŠKODA CitiJet design concept is presented to the public at the GTI event for the first time
› ŠKODA 'Apprentice Car': two-seater sports convertible based on the ŠKODA Citigo
› Vehicle project of 16 ŠKODA Vocational School apprentices working closely with design, production and development of ŠKODA

Mladá Boleslav/Reifnitz, 22 May 2014 – Clear the stage for the dream car of ŠKODA’s apprentices: the sporty city cabriolet ŠKODA CitiJet will be presented for the first time at this year's GTI event at Wörthersee. The design concept is the result of ŠKODA’s 'Apprentice Car' project. Six months in the making, 16 ŠKODA apprentices present the fruits of their labour to the public for the first time.

The budding ŠKODA employees worked on their very personal vehicle project from November 2013 until shortly before the GTI event. During this time, the apprentices were allowed to let their creativity run free. They were supported by ŠKODA Head Designer Jozef Kabaň and his team, ŠKODA Production and Technical Development.

The result: an emotional design concept that will attract the attention of visitors at Wörthersee. “The ŠKODA CitiJet is a fantastic achievement from our students and shows the creativity and imagination of the new generation of ŠKODA employees,” says ŠKODA Board Member for HR, Bohdan Wojnar.
The ŠKODA CitiJet is a dynamic and expressively designed city-convertible based on the ŠKODA Citigo. The exterior features distinctive metallic paintwork in blue/white and racy, blue 16-inch alloy wheels. It also features a hand-made rear spoiler as well as a powerful exhaust with two tailpipes. A 1.0 MPI petrol engine with 55 kW (75 PS) can be found under the bonnet of the vehicle.

The sporty interior is based on the interior of the ŠKODA Citigo SPORT special model. This includes the red-stitched, leather-lined three-spoke steering wheel as well as the leather cover of the handbrake handle and gear knob. The seat covers and floor mats have a 'Sport' material design. The dashboard is painted white/red. A 300 watt sound system is also fitted. The interior has music-reactive LED lighting.
This is the first time that this kind of trainee project has been undertaken at ŠKODA. The aim has been to encourage the apprentices creativity, teamwork and expertise of vocational students.

“Our apprentices have put their hearts and souls into this vehicle. Every little detail, no matter how small, was discussed, agreed upon and put into practice by the team. It was a real team effort. The outcome: a unique and emotional car, of which everybody involved should be very proud of,” says Head of ŠKODA Auto Design Jozef Kabaň.

This trainee project highlights the Czech manufacture’s commitment to the high quality of vocational training at ŠKODA, which is supported by the trade union KOVO MB. At the ŠKODA AUTO Vocational School of Mechanical Engineering, young people go through a three or four-year training program in technical subjects, graduating with a full apprenticeship or the equivalent of secondary school final exams. There are currently 13 training programmes; the most popular three-year courses being those for auto mechanics, auto electricians and electricians. The most popular among the four-year courses is in industrial logistics. Postgraduate and distance-learning studies are also offered by the vocational school.

100,000th ŠKODA Citigo manufactured

› Model campaign: The first ŠKODA city car strengthens ŠKODA’s position in Europe
› Success: in 2013 ŠKODA Citigo sales were up by 51 percent
› Versatile: available as a 3- or 5-door, with petrol and CNG engine
› The most environmentally-friendly ŠKODA: Citigo G-TEC emits only 79 g CO2 per km
› City-Clever: plenty of space, smart solutions, maximum safety
› Emotional: ŠKODA Citigo Monte Carlo captivates with its sporty design

Mladá Boleslav/Bratislava, 23 May 2014 – At the Volkswagen factory in Bratislava the 100,000th ŠKODA Citigo rolled off the production line. The brand’s first city car was launched at the end of 2011, and has enjoyed a successful market presence ever since. The model woos with its generous space, smart solutions, low fuel consumption, high level of safety, perfect handling, neat design, and it is great value for money. 2013 has seen sales increase by 51 percent.

“The 100,000 Citigos produced since 2011 show how well our ‘little car’ is doing in the market,” says Werner Eichhorn, ŠKODA Board Member for Sales and Marketing. “With the Citigo, launched almost three years ago, we started the biggest model offensive our company has ever experienced. Since then, our smart minicar has enriched the growing city car segment and attracted new customers to the brand. The Citigo strengthens our position within the European market and we’re really pleased with our model,” says Eichhorn.

The ŠKODA Citigo is the perfect car for the city: compact, yet at the same time spacious, economical and agile, attractive, safe and clever. “The Citigo offers all of ŠKODA’s values in the smallest of spaces,” says Eichhorn. This combination has been very well received by customers: in 2013, sales of these nippy little cars increased by a solid 51% to 45,000 vehicles.
With its compact size, (3.56 m long, 1.64 m wide and 1.48 m tall) the ŠKODA Citigo provides perfect handling. At the same time, the model captivates with its ample space which is so typical of ŠKODA’s vehicles.

Numerous clever concepts make the Citgo a real ‘Simply Clever’ car. With several storage compartments and nets, hooks as well as its spacious boot – this car is extremely practical. And exceptionally safe: As the first mini car, the Citigo, together with its sister models from the Volkswagen Group, received the best possible rating of 5 stars in the Euro NCAP crash test.

The ŠKODA Citigo is, in addition, one of the most environmentally-friendly city cars on the market. It has a 1.0 MPI three-cylinder engine, and is available with a 44 kW/60 PS or a 55 kW/75 PS engine. Each engine can be combined with either a five-speed manual gearbox or a semi-automatic ASG transmission. The 1.0 MPI/44 kW Citigo Green tec has a combined fuel consumption of just 4.1 l/100 km and only emits 95 g CO2 per km.

Since October 2012 the city car has also been available with a CNG engine. The ŠKODA Citigo G-TEC uses just 4.4 m³ (2.9 kg) of CNG per 100 km, with a CO2 output of only 79 g/km. This makes the Citigo G-TEC the most environmentally-friendly ŠKODA available. To date, ŠKODA has delivered a total of over 1,900 vehicles to customers, of which 1,300 were sold in 2013 alone. Last year, one record-breaking journey in particular raised the Citigo G-TEC’s profile: taking 5 days, Austrian fuel-saving champion Gerhard Plattner drove at an average fuel consumption of 2.39 kg CNG/100 km from Vicenza (Italy) to Stockholm (Sweden).

At the beginning of May, the Czech manufacturer introduced a particularly emotional and sporty Citigo edition. The ŠKODA Citigo Monte Carlo launched in a luscious rally design with a wealth of sporty details. Amongst other things, it boasts lowered sports suspension, striking 16-inch alloy wheels, front spoiler with integrated fog lights, a black radiator grille, rear-spoiler and back panel with integrated diffuser. The interior also carries on the theme, featuring a 3-spoke sports steering wheel, black roof lining, a black interior finish and seat covers in Monte Carlo design.

Since its launch, the ŠKODA Citigo has won numerous car awards both at home and abroad. These include, amongst others, ‘Car of The Year 2012 in the Czech Republic’, ‘Company Car of the Year’ and ‘Internet Car of the Year’ at the Fleet Awards.

ŠKODA at Wörthersee: world premiere of ŠKODA Yeti Xtreme

› Compact SUV with rally car ambitions: rugged concept ŠKODA Yeti Xtreme
› Dynamics: 1.8 TSI/112 kW with all-wheel drive and DSG; height-adjustable chassis, and Octavia RS brakes
› Rally car interior: aluminium floor panel, Recaro sports seats, carbon fibre trim, ‘Super Sports’ steering wheel, iPad cradle, fire extinguisher, off-road features, rally equipment
› 33rd run of the legendary Volkswagen event from 28 to 31 May 2014

Mladá Boleslav/Reifnitz, 23 May 2014 – At this year’s GTI event at Wörthersee, ŠKODA will be presenting the ŠKODA Yeti Xtreme – a world premiere of this solid and sporty concept rally car based on the popular compact SUV. The event will also mark the debut of the ŠKODA CitiJet – a design concept built by ŠKODA apprentices. It is with these expressive vehicles that the brand once again underlines the emotional qualities and versatility of its attractive model range.

This is the 33rd time that the legendary Volkswagen tuning event will be taking place. Around 200,000 tuning fans will be making the pilgrimage to the cult event in Reifnitz, Austria (28 to 31 May). ŠKODA will be taking part in the GTI event for the fifth time.

“We want to continue the positive development and to grow further with new models over the coming years,” says Werner Eichhorn, ŠKODA Board Member for Sales and Marketing. “Therefore we are going to strengthen the emotional vibrancy of the brand. ŠKODA Yeti Xtreme – as a dynamic and powerful compact SUV concept – demonstrates the brand’s strong expertise in four-wheel drive technology, as well as our know-how when it comes to rally sports.”

In creating the ŠKODA Yeti Xtreme, ŠKODA designers have converted their successful compact SUV into a particularly sporty and dynamic rally design. The show car combines the power of an all-wheel drive SUV with strong design elements and equipment features of a racy rally car.

The car is powered by a 1.8 112 kW strong TSI engine and features a six-speed dual clutch transmission (DSG). The maximum torque of 250 Nm is achieved between 1,500 and 4,200 rpm. The Yeti Xtreme accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 9 seconds; its top speed is 192 km/h. The Yeti Xtreme features special Octavia RS brakes.

The striking matt-grey Yeti stands on powerful 17-inch alloy wheels and large off-road tyres. It features tinted side windows, roof and wheel rim inserts are set off in bright yellow-green. At the front, the brawny athlete has a powerful bumper and a large air intake, along with LED headlights. For robust sporting use, the height of the chassis can be adjusted.

The ŠKODA Yeti Xtreme flexes its muscles with strikingly shaped wings and powerful door sills. At the rear, the strong rear bumper bears witness to the power and dynamics of the vehicle, so do the two wide exhaust tailpipes, which sound particularly throaty as a result of the absence of silencers. The boot includes a spare wheel and so-called ‘recovery tracks’, special traction mats that can be pushed under the wheels, should the car get stuck in sand.

The interior wows with a racy rally design and includes equipment required for rally use. Passengers can sit on 4 individual Recaro sports seats with integrated four-point safety belts. Other features include the ‘Super Sport’ steering wheel with integrated gearshift paddles.

The designers have used selected high-tech materials for various parts in the car’s interior: the inner door covers have been made entirely from carbon fibre; a sand shovel and a thermos flask have been integrated into holders fitted in the panelling; the floor panel is made from aluminium.

The Colour & Trim package includes further carbon fibre elements and high-quality, dark Alcantara surface with green colour accents. Further aluminium details can be found throughout, such as aluminium pedals and special door sill plates. The centre console has been completely re-defined. This is where standard rally car accessories, such as a belt cutter and a fire extinguisher, can be found. An iPad cradle is integrated into the dashboard, a first aid kit into the glove box.

With the ŠKODA Yeti Xtreme, the manufacturer once again demonstrates the versatile potential of its popular compact SUV. The ŠKODA Yeti was completely redesigned in 2013 and is now available in two exciting versions for the first time: the ŠKODA Yeti for the city and the adventurous ŠKODA Yeti Outdoor for rough terrain. The Czech manufacturer celebrated its premiere in the dynamically growing SUV segment with the ŠKODA Yeti in 2009. Around 640,000 ŠKODA Yetis have been sold to date. The brand achieved a market share of more than 4% in the compact SUV segment within the European Union last year, making the Yeti one of the best-selling A-class SUVs in Europe.

The ŠKODA CitiJet design concept is going to be another highlight of ŠKODA’s appearance at Wörthersee. The vehicle is a dynamic and emotionally designed city-cabriolet based on the ŠKODA Citigo. The two-seater is the result of the ŠKODA apprentices’ project, carried out for the first time this year. Six months in the making, 16 ŠKODA apprentices present the fruits of their labour to the public for the first time.
The ŠKODA CitiJet features a distinctive metallic finish in blue and white and has sporty, blue 16-inch alloy wheels, accompanied by a handmade rear spoiler and a powerful exhaust with two tailpipes. A 1.0 MPI petrol engine with 55 kW (75 PS) can be found under the bonnet.

The car features a sporty interior, with equipment based on the interior of the special edition ŠKODA Citigo SPORT. In addition, the creators have installed a special 300 W sound system, and music-reactive blue LED interior lighting.

New ŠKODA Octavia G-TEC enters into production

› ŠKODA starts serial production of a new ŠKODA Octavia with natural gas drive at Mladá Boleslav plant
› Number of models in ŠKODA range running on natural gas grows to three; Citigo G-TEC, Octavia G-TEC and Octavia Combi G-TEC
› Octavia G-TEC 1,4 TSI/81 kW has emissions of just 97 g CO2/km; combined range on natural gas and petrol is up to 1 330 km
› ŠKODA invests EUR 5m in natural gas testing facility and filling station
› Natural gas is an affordable alternative; fuel costs amount to less than CZK 1/km

Mladá Boleslav, 27 May 2014 – The new ŠKODA Octavia G-TEC rolls off the production line of ŠKODA´s main plant in Mladá Boleslav for the first time. The vehicle will go on sale in the Czech market in June. The first Octavia with natural gas drive is produced in hatchback and estate body versions. The brand´s range of natural gas models grows to three. The CNG version of the Citigo small car has had a successful run in European markets since the end of 2012 .

In parallel with the start of production of the new Octavia G-TEC, ŠKODA has also inaugurated a new CNG testing facility and filling station representing an investment of EUR 5m. This facility serves to carry out mandatory safety testing of CNG powertrains and to provide an initial fill of CNG fuel tanks.

After their introduction in the Czech market in June 2014, the new Octavia G-TEC and Octavia Combi G-TEC will be gradually rolled out in 14 other countries across Europe: Belgium, Denmark, Germany, Finland, France, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Austria, Sweden, Switzerland, Slovakia, and Slovenia.
The new ŠKODA Octavia G-TEC in hatchback and estate body versions is powered by a turbocharged 1,4 TSI engine. This powertrain has an output of 81 kW (110 HP) and is engineered as a bivalent unit to run on both petrol and also compressed natural gas (CNG). The Green tec package is included as standard equipment and offers a start-stop system and brake energy recuperation.

This modern powertrain meets EU 6 emission standard requirements which will come into force in September 2014. On CNG power alone, the Octavia G-TEC and Octavia Combi G-TEC have a range of up to 410 km. Fuel consumption equals to 5.4 m3 (3.5 kg) of natural gas per 100 km, which amounts to emissions of 97 g CO2/km. When running only on petrol, the available range is up to 920 km. On one filling of both fuel tanks, the Octavia G-TEC offers a range of up to 1 330 km without detracting from driver satisfaction. The vehicle can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 10.9 s and reaches a top speed of 195 km/h.

The total maximum volume of both CNG fuel tanks is 97 litres, or 15 kg of natural gas compressed to a pressure of 200 bar. The tanks are mounted in a special frame located under the boot floor. The luggage compartment of Octavia G-TEC offers 460 l, in case of Octavia Combi G-TEC it is 480 litres.

With the introduction of the new Octavia G-TEC and Octavia Combi G-TEC, ŠKODA is expanding its range of cars powered by natural gas to three models. The Citigo town car with CNG drive has been on sale since October 2012. This model has a consumption of just 4.4 m3 (2.9 kg) of natural gas per 100 km, which equals to emissions of 79 g CO2 /km. The total range of this model is 620 km (400 km on gas, 220 km on petrol).

Vehicles powered by natural gas represent sustainable mobility at an affordable price. The price of natural gas in the Czech Republic and many other European countries is substantially lower than the price of petrol or diesel. The operational costs of both ŠKODA Octavia G-TEC models are less than CZK 1/km on the combined cycle.

With the launch of the new Octavia G-TEC line, ŠKODA is reitirating its clear message regarding the high standards for environmental friendliness of its models. A total of 22 cars from ŠKODA have emissions below 100 g CO2 /km, and 112 models in the ŠKODA range have emissions below 120 g CO2/km. The brand´s focus on sustainable mobility is underlined with an entry value of CO2 emissions of just 79 g/km for the ŠKODA Citigo G-TEC. The ŠKODA GreenLine and Green tec models are all exceptionally ecological. Customers may choose from a total of twelve GreenLine variants and 51 Green tec variants. The new ŠKODA Octavia GreenLine sets new standards in the compact category with low CO2 emissions of just 85 g/km.

ŠKODA RS: 40 years of the cult of speed

› ŠKODA 180 RS/200 RS: established in 1974 as the first original RS models of ŠKODA’s successful motorsport era of the 1970s and 1980s
› Legendary ‘Porsche of the East’: the ŠKODA 130 RS
› The new era: from the first generation ŠKODA Octavia RS (2000) to the fastest ŠKODA Octavia of all time (2013)

Mladá Boleslav, 27 May 2014 – RS – ŠKODA aficionados associate these initials which, according to ŠKODA historians, stand for Rally Sport, with very sporty, racy, classy and dynamic cars. The ŠKODA RS story began in 1974 with the ŠKODA 180 RS and ŠKODA 200 RS racing cars. The legendary ŠKODA 130 RS in the 1970s and 1980s was one of the most successful sports cars of its time. The Czech car makers launched the ŠKODA Octavia RS as the first RS model of the new era in 2000. Then came the ŠKODA Fabia RS in 2003. The new ŠKODA Octavia RS has been the current star of the ŠKODA RS racers for the past year – it is the fastest and most powerful Octavia of all time.

“Our RS models are sporty power machines for the ŠKODA brand,” says ŠKODA CEO Prof. Dr. h.c. Winfried Vahland. “This is just as true today as it was 40 years ago. The RS initials denote ŠKODA’s successes in motorsport as well as the high performance and passion represented by select production models. They are an expression of our outstanding motorsport tradition,” says Vahland.

1974: ŠKODA 180 RS and 200 RS – spectacular racing cars

ŠKODA used the abbreviation RS for the first time as a model designation in 1974. ŠKODA 180 RS and 200 RS racing cars are considered to be the original RS cars. The reason for the development was a desire to compete in the more prestigious and higher-volume racing classes, as well as challenge internationally successful brands on the race tracks.

After just half a year’s preparation, in the spring of 1974, ŠKODA launched three super sports models (one 180 RS, and two 200 RSs), which ran in an official motorsport competition for the first time in June of the same year, then known as the ŠKODA Rally. “The ŠKODA 180 RS and 200 RS models represented the brand’s entry into top-class rallying,” says Michal Velebný, Restoration Workshop Manager at the ŠKODA Museum.

This fireball’s bonnet concealed a 120 kW (163 PS) two-litre engine with an overhead camshaft. The top speed of the ŠKODA 200 RS was 210 km/h. In addition to its acceleration power and high top speed, the vehicle impressed with its outstanding handling, favoured by a newly developed trailing arm rear axle. The transmission came from Porsche.

Positive experiences with the 200 RS quickly decided those in positions of responsibility to build a vehicle for general motorsport. Just one year later, the ŠKODA 130 RS drove into the international racing limelight ready for the 1975 season. This was the start of six great years of motor racing.

The ŠKODA 130 RS became one of the most successful racing cars of its time and was a powerful competitor in rallies and races until the beginning of the 1980s. Many motorsport fans are familiar with the 130 RS, also referring to it as the ‘Porsche of the East’. The successes of the 130 RS have shaped ŠKODA’s great reputation in motorsports to date.

The 130 RS celebrated its greatest triumphs with a double victory in the 1977 Monte Carlo Rally in the up to 1,300 cm3 cylinder capacity category and a victory in the European Touring Car Championship of 1981. Even in major Czech competitions, such as the Barum Rally, the Bohemia Rally or the Sumava Rally, the vehicle achieved many victories.
The rear-wheel drive racing car was powered by a 103 kW (140 PS) 1.3 litre four-cylinder engine. The racing configuration was successful among other things due to Weber carburettors for fuel/air mixing, an eight-port cylinder head and dry-sump lubrication. The racer, around four metres long, 1.72 metres wide and just 1.34 metres high, achieved a top speed of 220 km/h.

When production of the 130 RS came to an end in 1981, the RS era at ŠKODA was interrupted for almost 20 years.

RS goes into standard production – ŠKODA Octavia RS (2000-2005)

At the turn of the millennium, ŠKODA sets again a clear signal in terms of production sports cars, with a clear reference to the RS era. In 2000, the manufacturer launched the ŠKODA Octavia RS. Four years before, the new Octavia had celebrated its debut – the first model from the brand to be developed from scratch after the fall of the Iron Curtain and Volkswagen’s association with the Czech manufacturer. Now the new ŠKODA best seller was the first to have its own RS version as a consumer model – another homage to the tradition of the ŠKODA 180/200 RS, and in particular the successes of the ŠKODA 130 RS. The new era RS model proved to have immediate consumer appeal. A more powerful engine, outstanding handling and sporting charisma, combined with all the advantages of a compact family car – an irresistible combination.

The vehicle had a 1.8 litre four-cylinder turbo engine with 132 kW (180 PS). The gear system was a manual five-speed transmission. The Octavia RS accelerated from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.9 seconds; peak speed was 235 km/h. The first generation Octavia RS was produced from 2000 to 2005.
In 2001 a racy Octavia RS special model attracted much attention. On the occasion of the first centenary of ŠKODA Motorsport, the brand launched a limited-edition of 100 pieces of ŠKODA Octavia RS WRC Edition.

Following on from the ŠKODA Octavia WRC rally car, which had competed in the World Rally Championship (WRC) since 1998, ŠKODA trimmed its Octavia RS WRC with some sporty design features. These included, among other things, 17-inch aluminium wheels and xenon headlamps. The vehicle was also fitted with ESC as standard.

The first generation ŠKODA Fabia RS (2003-2007)

In 2003 the manufacturer extended its RS range with a second model and gave starter’s orders to the sportily designed small car ŠKODA Fabia RS.
The first sporty hatchback model of the brand was powered by a 1.9 litre diesel turbo engine with 96 kW (130 PS) and a six-speed transmission. The vehicle accelerated from 0 to 100 km/h in 9.6 seconds and was capable of a top speed of 204 km/h. The first generation ŠKODA Fabia RS came off the production line between 2003 and 2007.

The second generation ŠKODA Octavia RS (2005-2013)

A new ŠKODA Octavia RS followed in 2005 with the second generation ŠKODA Octavia. The second generation sports car was manufactured up to 2013. In addition to the saloon, the RS version was also available for the ŠKODA Octavia Combi.

In addition, ŠKODA fitted the new ŠKODA Octavia RS with two engine versions. The customer had the choice between a two-litre petrol turbo engine with 147 kW (200 PS) and a two-litre diesel turbo with 125 kW (170 PS). Both engines could be combined with manual six-speed transmission or for the first time also with automatic six-speed DSG transmission.

The second generation ŠKODA Octavia RS was impressive with once again significantly improved acceleration and speed values. The petrol engine accelerated from 0 to 100 km/h in just 7.2 seconds (up to then it had been 7.9 seconds), and achieved a top speed of 240 km/h.

At the 2010 Geneva Motor Show, ŠKODA launched the new second generation ŠKODA Fabia RS. For the first time since then, the compact sports car has been available as a hatchback or as an estate.
A small car with a powerful engine: the Fabia has an automatic seven-speed DSG gearbox fitted as standard. Its twin turbocharged 1.4 TSI petrol engine 132 kW (180 PS) accelerates the car from 0 to 100 km/h in just 7.3 seconds. Its top speed is 224 km/h.

Current generation ŠKODA Octavia RS: The fastest Octavia in series production

The third generation of the ŠKODA Octavia RS continues to set new standards among cars tuned for sporty driving. Customers may choose from either liftback or estate body styles in combination with an advanced 2.0 TSI petrol engine with an output of 162 kW or a 2.0 TDI (135kW) turbocharged diesel unit utilising state-of-the-art technologies to achieve an excellent combination of fuel consumption and on-road dynamics. The petrol version of the ŠKODA Octavia RS reaches a top speed of 248 km/h, which rightly gives it the title of the fastest-ever series production model in the ŠKODA Octavia range.

The robust ŠKODA Yeti Xtreme showcar will be celebrating its world premiere. The event will also mark the debut of the ŠKODA CitiJet – a design concept built by ŠKODA apprentices. In addition, the Czech brand will be showing the ŠKODA Octavia Combi RS, ŠKODA Rapid Spaceback Red & Grey Collection and the ŠKODA Fabia Super 2000 rally car. There is also going to be a spectacular racing event: visitors will be able to drive around a rapid circuit in mini racing cars in the ‘Crazy Rallye Ride’.

This is the 33rd time that the legendary Volkswagen tuning event will be taking place. Around 200,000 tuning fans will be making the pilgrimage to the cult event in Reifnitz, Austria on Ascension Weekend (28 to 31 May). ŠKODA will be taking part in the GTI event for the fifth time and will this year be presenting their impressive range of sports vehicles – from dynamic compact cars to the ŠKODA Fabia Super 2000 rally car.
“ŠKODA has had a history in motorsport spanning almost 113 years,” says ŠKODA CEO Prof. Dr. h.c. Winfried Vahland. “Our success is the result of the technical expertise and the passion of the company and our engineers. The GTI event – as a major event for all tuning and motorsport fans – is a fantastic place to demonstrate this devotion with sporty and particularly emotional models.”

The world premiere of the ŠKODA Yeti Xtreme in Reifnitz is the manufacturer’s demonstration of a crisp and robust interpretation of the popular compact SUV. The ŠKODA Yeti was completely redesigned in 2013 and is now available in two exciting versions: the ŠKODA Yeti for the city and the adventurous ŠKODA Yeti Outdoor.

ŠKODA designers have provided the Yeti with a striking rally-design trim for this year’s Wörthersee event. The striking matt-grey vehicle with ŠKODA yellow/green accents stands on powerful 17-inch alloy wheels and large off-road tyres. The front of the vehicle features a powerful bumper and a large air intake. The ŠKODA Yeti Xtreme flexes its muscles with athletically shaped wings and mighty door sills. At the rear, the striking rear bumper and two wide exhaust pipes without silencers bear witness to the power and dynamics of the vehicle, both on a visual and an acoustic level. The interior features exclusive rally fittings, including four individual Recaro sports seats with integrated four-point harnesses, sports steering wheel with integrated gear-shift paddles. The inside door panels are made from carbon-fibre, the floor panels are aluminium. In the completely newly designed centre console you can find a belt cutter and a fire extinguisher, the dashboard features an iPad cradle.

The ŠKODA CitiJet is a dynamically and expressively designed city-cabriolet based on the ŠKODA Citigo. The two-seater is the result of ‘Apprentice Car’ project, carried out for the first time this year. The exterior features a distinctive metallic finish in blue and white, and sporty, blue/white-painted 16-inch alloy wheels, accompanied by a handmade rear spoiler and a powerful exhaust with two tailpipes. A 1.0 MPI petrol engine with 55 kW (75hp) can be found under the bonnet. The car also has a sporty interior, with equipment based on the interior of the special edition ŠKODA Citigo SPORT. In addition, the creators have installed a special 300W sound system, which the blue LED interior lighting system responds to.

The ŠKODA Octavia Combi RS is ŠKODA’s successful estate edition of the fastest ŠKODA Octavia of all time. The ŠKODA Octavia RS has been a market success since mid-2013, captivating with its power, dynamics and striking design. The 2.0 TSI/162 kW engine accelerates the ŠKODA Octavia Estate RS from 0 to 100 km/h in just 6.8 seconds, with a top speed of 248 km/h. Large air inlet openings, dynamic front spoiler, strong rear diffuser, wide chrome exhaust pipes, slightly lowered chassis, sports suspension, RS design fog lights, and series-standard bi-xenon headlights with integrated LED daytime running lights and LED rear lights – the Octavia Combi RS conveys pure emotion at first glance. The vehicle shown at Wörthersee is metallic painted Moon-white and stands on 19-inch alloy wheels. The interior is dominated by sporty black, plus there are special RS design sport seats and aluminium pedals.

The ŠKODA Rapid Spaceback Red & Grey Collection is the new robust edition with ŠKODA Original Accessories of the in 2012 launched ŠKODA Rapid, which was the brand’s first compact hatchback model. The white body colour effectively contrasts with the grey-red strips running over the bonnet, roof and rear. There are also striking, red 17-inch alloy wheels in SAVIO design, exterior mirror housings made of carbon and darkened rear lights. The special sports kit includes the front spoiler with black coloured splitter and rear spoiler. Sports kit include also decorative side mouldings and diffuser in car body colour. The grille frame is painted in magic black. The interior also features sporty designs. The small leather package includes a three-spoke sports steering wheel with red leather accents, with the gear stick and hand brake finished in red leather. There are sports seats, aluminium pedals and aluminium door sill plates with Rapid branding. The trim bar on the instrument panel is white, decorated with grey and red stripes. The floor mats are finished in red stitching.

The ŠKODA Fabia Super 2000 is one of the world's most successful rally cars in the Super 2000 class. Distinctive bumpers, powerful air intakes, crisp wheel arch extensions, and a large rear spoiler make the car a sporty powerhouse on four 18-inch sports wheels. Technical highlights include a 205 kW (279hp) engine, permanent four-wheel drive, dramatically lowered sports suspension, six-speed sequential gearbox and special rally sport tyres. Since its premiere in international rallying five years ago, the rapid compact sports car has caused a sensation and has collected numerous titles. The ŠKODA Fabia Super 2000 won three continental rally championships in Europe, Asia and South America in 2013 alone.

Besides the sporty models, ŠKODA will be offering the visitors a special racing experience. The ‘Crazy Rallye Ride’ promises live racing action in miniature. Visitors will be able to show off their driving skills in mini-racing cars at a specially designed race track next to the ŠKODA Stand. Kitted out in a special racing outfit, the participants will be competing for victory and placement on track.

Off to Tyrol: Two ŠKODA classics in the Kitzbühel Alpine Rally

› ŠKODA Felicia and ŠKODA 1000 MB will be on the starting line in Kitzbühel
› ŠKODA’s fourth appearance at the rally
› 27th occasion of the renowned Kitzbühel Alpine Rally from 29 to 31 May

Mladá Boleslav, 29 May 2014 – This year will mark ŠKODA’s fourth appearance in the Kitzbühel Alpine Rally. The Czech brand will be sending the ŠKODA Felicia and ŠKODA 1000 MB Rallye to the starting line who will be joined by an expected 185 other participants in Hahnenkamm town. The 27th Alpine Rally takes place from 29 to 31 May.

The Kitzbühel Alpine Rally is not only one of the oldest, but also one of the most beautiful regions to host a classic car rally. “The Alpine Rally illustrates the appeal of historic automobiles. This year ŠKODA will be presenting two highlights and particularly emotional models from our company’s 119-year history,” says Michal Velebný, Coordinator of the ŠKODA Museum’s restoration workshop.

The ŠKODA 1000 MB Rally from 1967 is a true ŠKODA racer on the track. The rally car differs from the standard ŠKODA 1000 MB with its additional light ramps and other sports modifications. Among other things, the engine was adapted for use in sport, and the model has sports seats with four-point seat belts. The vehicle going to the starting line in Kitzbühel has taken part in numerous races in the past, including the prestigious long distance London-Mexico in 1995. The 1000MB Rally features a four-cylinder rear engine with 1300 cc displacement and Weber carburettors. The engine output is 90hp with a maximum speed of 170 km/h.

The turquoise-green ŠKODA Felicia convertible from 1961 is expected to be a top figure driving along the charming Alpine panorama as in the two years before. With its elegant body style, the distinctive tail fin and the striking colour, the open vehicle is an enchanting ŠKODA representative of the 1960s. The vehicle comes from the historical corporate collection in Mladá Boleslav and is a regular visitor to renowned classic car rallies. The convertible built between 1959 and 1964 is becoming increasingly popular among collectors. Under the bonnet is a 50hp strong four-cylinder engine with a 1089cc displacement, reaching a top speed of 130 km/h.

This is the fourth time that ŠKODA will be taking part in the Kitzbühel Alpine Rally. This year for the first time, vehicles produced before 1985 have been entered in the race, and a total of 187 automotive rarities representing seven decades will be at the starting line. In addition to the new year of construction limit, a fantastic new programme has been organised. There are now 30-second starts in all stages, with the addition of new trials.

A newly set distance of 600km has been prepared for the participants. The prologue begins on Thursday morning (29 May). The highlight of the event will be on Friday (30 May) when the cars will drive along the Grossglockner alpine road to the 2407m high Fuscher Törl. On Saturday (May 31) a pure Tyrolean stage passes through the Inn Valley to the outer Zillertal and to a town trial in medieval Rattenberg. The conclusion and climax will be on Saturday afternoon, as the drivers approach the finish line in front of thousands of enthusiastic spectators in Kitzbühel town centre.

ŠKODA produces new three-cylinder petrol engines

› The Mladá Boleslav plant starts production of a new 1,0 MPI petrol engine in the EA211 range
› Three-cylinder engines set new standards for efficiency, lightweight design and power outputs
› ŠKODA has 115 years of expertise in powertrain production and development

Mladá Boleslav, 30 May 2014 – ŠKODA has started to produce new three-cylinder petrol engines at its main plant in Mladá Boleslav. The 1,0 MPI unit from the EA211 engine range is available in two power output levels (44 kW and 55 kW) and achieves excellent figures in weight, fuel consumption and emissions.
“We have substantially expanded our car manufacturing capacities in Mladá Boleslav over the past few years. We are now gearing up to also increase the number of produced engines,” says Michael Oeljeklaus, ŠKODA Member of the Board for Production and Logistics. “The kick-off of the EA 211 three-cylinder MPI engine is an important milestone in powertrain production for us in the Czech Republic, and proof of the strong dedication of our employees,” adds Oeljeklaus.

The Volkswagen Group´s EA211 engine range includes three- and four-cylinder petrol engines with a displacement ranging from 1.0 to 1.6 litres. ŠKODA has been manufacturing EA211 1.2 and 1.4 TSI engines since 2012. The Mladá Boleslav plant is now expanding this operation to include the production of the 1,0 MPI unit. The MPI abbreviation stands for Multi Point Injection. The new engine will be used in small and compact cars made by ŠKODA, SEAT and Volkswagen.

The new three-cylinder unit will delight users with its low fuel consumption and emissions, as well as with its low weight. The 1,0 MPI engine offers a wide range of usable RPMs under various engine loads with reliable, robust and dynamic performance even at low engine speeds. These characteristics give it a defined advantage in city driving. The engine meets strict EU 6 emission standards and is available in two power output levels, 44 kW (60 HP) and 55 kW (75 HP).

The start of production of the 1.0 MPI engine again underlines the high levels of ŠKODA’s technical expertise in powertrain production and development. Since 2001, ŠKODA has been making EA 111 1.2 HTP engines at its plant alongside EA 211 TSI and MPI engines. The car maker has produced its three millionth 1.2 HTP engine at the beginning of May.

ŠKODA continues to focus on gearboxes in the area of component production. The company makes MQ 200 and MQ/SQ 100 gearboxes at its plant in Mladá Boleslav. The Vrchlabí plant manufactures dual-clutch automatic DQ 200 gearboxes.

ŠKODA aims to expand its competency in engine and powertrain production in the upcoming years. To this end, the car maker is currently building an engine testing centre as part of the brand’s Česana development headquarters in Mladá Boleslav. ŠKODA and Volkswagen are investing over EUR 34m in this project alone. This is currently the largest investment into technical development in the Czech Republic.
Engine production in Mladá Boleslav dates back to 1899. Four years after Václav Laurin and Václav Klement (L&K) founded their company to manufacture bicycles, they installed an auxiliary engine to a bicycle to make a so-called motocyclette. At the time, these single-track vehicles used single-cylinder engines with an output of 1.25 or 1.75 horsepower.

ŠKODA’s newest 4×4 model range of all time

› ŠKODA all-wheel-drive models: Europe’s newest and broadest 4×4 range
in the compact and mid-class segment
› Modern all-wheel-drive technology for more performance and safety on all
roads
› The number of all-wheel drive ŠKODA vehicles has tripled between 2008 and
2013
› 2013: 20.6 % of all ŠKODA Octavia Combi, Yeti and Superb vehicles were sold
as 4×4
› New ŠKODA Octavia Scout shortly before market launch

Mladá Boleslav, 2 June 2014 – The current ŠKODA 4×4 model range is as strong
as never before. With state-of-the-art all-wheel-drive technology ŠKODA cars
offer more performance and safety under all circumstances. Currently, the
ŠKODA 4×4 range consitst of five 4×4 models: ŠKODA Octavia Combi 4×4,
ŠKODA Yeti 4×4 and ŠKODA Yeti Outdoor 4×4 as well as the ŠKODA Superb
4×4 and ŠKODA Superb Combi 4×4. This means that in the compact and midclass
segment, ŠKODA has the most modern and broadest offer of 4×4 vehicles
in Europe. At the end of August 2014, the new ŠKODA Octavia Scout, as
presented on the Geneva Motor Show, will be introduced on the markets.
The brand´s 4×4 model range will be extended to six models.

“Our all-wheel-drive model range is the stongest in company’s history,” says ŠKODA CEO
Prof. Dr. h.c. Winfried Vahland. “With this ŠKODA proofs its 4×4 competence in the
compact and mid-class segment. Since 2008, we have tripled the number of vehicles we
have sold from our 4×4 range, and increased the proportion of ŠKODA all-wheel-drive
vehicles delivered to more than 20% in this range. The modern all-wheel-drive range is
making a significant contribution to the growth of the company,” says Prof. Dr. Vahland.

Since 1999 the Czech brand successfully competes in the all-wheel-drive segement:
Between 1999 and the end of 2013, ŠKODA delivered a total of around 386,400 all-wheeldrive
vehicles to its customers worldwide. Since 2008 the manufacturer tripled its annual
4×4 deliveries to around 60,100 cars in 2013. Between January and April 2014 alone, the
brand supplied around 24,400 ŠKODA all-wheel-drive vehicles to customers worldwide.

The Octavia is the Czech manufacturer’s best-selling 4×4 model series by far (1999 until
April 2014: 219,900 vehicles), followed by the Yeti (2009 until April 2014:
144,400 vehicles) and the Superb series (2008 until April 2014: 46,500 vehicles).

ŠKODA’s all-wheel-drive vehicles are equipped with cutting-edge Haldex-clutch. The Haldex-clutch is an electronically-controlled multi-plate clutch. With permanent all-wheel drive, it enables proportional distribution of drive between front and rear axles.

The all-wheel-drive system is smart, precise and fast. Driving conditions are constantly assessed and the control unit calculates the ideal driving torque for the rear axle. Traction losses are therefore virtually eliminated. When coasting or at low load, drive is via the front axle. This saves fuel.

The ŠKODA Octavia Combi 4×4: An all-wheel drive class of its own

The third Octavia generation launched in mid-2013 impresses with optimal handling. The range of engines includes two diesel engines (1.6 TDI/77 kW, 2.0 TDI/110 kW) and one petrol engine (1.8 TSI/132 kW). Fuel consumption is on average 14% below the vehicle’s predecessor’s values.

ŠKODA Superb 4×4 and ŠKODA Superb Combi 4×4: powerful flagship models

The ŠKODA Superb 4×4 and ŠKODA Superb Combi 4×4 models are shining examples of mid-range all-wheel drive vehicles. Since 2008 (Superb) and 2009 (Superb Combi), the brand’s flagship models, have been available with all-wheel drive. Around 46,500 customers have already chosen one of these two models.
In mid-2013, ŠKODA Superb and ŠKODA Superb Combi were fully updated. The Superb all-wheel-drive vehicles have therefore become even more desirable. For the ŠKODA Superb 4×4 2.0 TDI/125 kW, the much sought-after combination of all-wheel drive with automatic DSG transmission is available for the first time. All-wheel-drive is overall available for two petrol and two diesel engines.

ŠKODA Yeti and ŠKODA Yeti Outdoor: two new design variants

Since the end of 2013, for the first time, the ŠKODA Yeti is available in two variants: the elegant ŠKODA Yeti for the city and in the variant of the ŠKODA Yeti Outdoor designed for terrain and adventure.
The all-wheel-drive Yeti 2.0 TDI/125 kW is available as a combination with automatic six-speed DSG transmission. All-wheel drive in the Yeti can be combined with a total choice of four engines: 1.8 TSI/118 kW, 2.0 TDI/81 kW, 2.0 TDI/103 kW and 2.0 TDI/125 kW.

In addition, the interior features the appropriate rally equipment.

Another ŠKODA eye catcher at Wörthersee was the design study ŠKODA CitiJet – a dynamically designed city convertible based on the ŠKODA Citigo. The two-seater presented to the public for the first time at this event is the result of the ‘ŠKODA Apprentice Car’ project. The ŠKODA CitiJet features a distinctive metallic finish in blue & white and sporty white/blue painted 16-inch alloy wheels, it also sports a hand-crafted rear spoiler and a powerful twin exhaust. Looking under the bonnet, you can find a 1.0 MPI petrol engine with 55 kW (75 hp). The sporty interior is based on the special edition ŠKODA Citigo SPORT. Extras on board: a special 300W sound system with blue LED interior lighting that reacts to music.

In addition, ŠKODA presented three other model highlights at this year’s Wörthersee event; one of the main attractions being the ŠKODA Octavia Combi RS – the successful estate version of the fastest series production ŠKODA Octavia of all time. The ŠKODA Octavia Combi RS 2.0 TSI/162 kW accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in only 6.8 seconds, with a top speed of 248 km/h. The eye catcher was as well the ŠKODA Rapid Spaceback Red & Grey – a sporty edition of the brand’s first compact hatchback model. ŠKODA’s sporty quintet was rounded off with one of the world’s most successful rally cars, the ŠKODA Fabia Super 2000.

In addition to the emotional model programme, ŠKODA offered the visitors rapid live racing action in miniature: ‘Crazy Rally Ride’. Visitors were able to put their driving skills to the test in mini rally cars around a specially designed circuit next to the ŠKODA stand.

› ŠKODA Popular Roadster travels 4000km along the route described by writer Karel Čapek in his 1924 ‘Letters from England’
› ŠKODA Popular was the first ŠKODA with a broad customer base 80 years ago

Mladá Boleslav, 4 May 2014 – ŠKODA’s first car to appeal to a broad customer base 80 years ago – the ŠKODA Popular. Now the legendary classic is to drive through the literary tracks of time across the UK with ŠKODA’s support. The automobile enthusiast Zdeněk Vacek embarks on a tour of UK cities that the Czech writer Karel Čapek described in his 1924 work ‘Letters from England’. He will be driving a ŠKODA Popular Roadster dating back to 1937.

The starting point and destination of the 4000km expedition, taking approximately three weeks, is the Czech Embassy in London. “We are delighted to be able to support this great project,” says Andrea Frýdlová, Manager of the ŠKODA Museum in Mladá Boleslav. “The ŠKODA Popular is a milestone in our 119-year history. The expedition, following in the tracks of Karel Čapek, is an excellent advertisement for our brand in one of our key markets,” adds Frýdlová.

The three-week UK tour is also a special tribute to the 80th anniversary of the ŠKODA Popular. The light and inexpensive model, revolutionary at that time, was first presented to the public 80 years ago in February 1934. It was the Popular that fulfilled the long-awaited dreams of a broad range of customers to own a car. At the same time, the model founded a new successful ŠKODA generation of vehicles with a contemporary central tube frame (instead of the previous lead frame), OHV engines and more refined technology. Nearly 20,000 of these vehicles were sold between 1934 and 1946.

Karel Čapek also bought a ŠKODA Popular, specifically for his girlfriend and future wife, the actress Olga Scheinpflugová. Karel Čapek is one of the most important 20th century Czech writers. In addition to his works of prose and science fiction novels, he also wrote numerous travel reports, including the 1924 book ‘Letters from England’, in which the author describes his observations on a trip through numerous cities and regions in the country.

Zdeněk Vacek’s journey passes through selected regions of this trip. He set out from the Czech Embassy in London, stopping at Cambridge, Edinburgh, the Isle of Skye, Glasgow, Bristol and Liverpool, among others. The finish is scheduled for 11 June in London. The Popular Roadster from 1937 is part of the collection of Ladislav Samohýl, a private collector from Zlín. The car played a role in the popular Czech TV crime-drama/comedy series Četnické humoresky (Policeman's Humoresques).

Six ŠKODA legends at home at the Oldtimer Bohemia Rally

› 50 years of the ŠKODA 1000 MB: Three 1000 MB versions on the starting grid
› Pre-war classics: L&K 110, ŠKODA 645, ŠKODA Superb 3000 OHV
› Fifth fun of the Oldtimer Bohemia Rally from 5 to 8 June 2014

Mladá Boleslav, 5 June 2014 – ŠKODA will be sending six classic cars from the company’s 119-year history to this year’s Oldtimer Bohemia Rally. It is with these three fantastic model variants that the manufacturer is celebrating the 50th anniversary of the legendary ŠKODA 1000 MB. A Laurin & Klement 110 dating back to 1925, as well as two elegant touring saloons from the 1930s – the ŠKODA 645 and ŠKODA Superb 3000 OHV will also be at the starting line in Bohemia.

This really is a home race for ŠKODA: The starting & finishing line is at ŠKODA’s ancestral home of Mladá Boleslav. The manufacturer is also supporting the event as the official partner by making the ŠKODA Museum and Na Karmeli premises available to the event organisers and participants.

“The Oldtimer Bohemia Rally is a real highlight in our country’s automotive events calendar,” explains Michal Velebný, Restoration Workshop Coordinator at the ŠKODA Museum. “We are delighted to present six fantastic classics from the ŠKODA collection to the home crowd.”

Spectators can look forward to three amazing versions of the legendary ŠKODA 1000 MB. The 1000 MB will be celebrating its 50th birthday this year. As the first ŠKODA with rear wheel drive, rear engine and a unibody construction, the compact vehicle is a milestone in the 119-year history of ŠKODA. And a real bestseller: A total of around 443,000 such vehicles were produced.

The blue ŠKODA 1000 MB is reminiscent of the best-selling 1000 MB versions. This beautifully restored vehicle has been part of the ŠKODA collection since 2012. The larger apertures in the rear fenders are characteristic of the construction year 1966. An even rarer sight is the two-door ŠKODA 1100 MBX, which is also represented on the starting grid of the Bohemian Rally. ŠKODA produced a mere 1114 such vehicles between 1967 and 1969. Connoisseurs appreciate the dynamic elegance of the vehicle. The anniversary trio is completed by the ŠKODA 1000 MB Rally, a 1000 MB with motorsport modifications. The vehicle to be seen on the starting line is a series-produced model from 1967 – made road-worthy for use in long-distance races 20 years later. Among others, the racing car took part in the London-Sydney (1993) and Panama-Alaska (1997).

One of the rarest and oldest cars on the starting grid is the Laurin & Klement 110 from 1925. Between 1925 and 1929, 2985 such vehicles were built. On the route of the Bohemian Rally there will be a model from the first series, recognizable by the L&K logo. The L&K 110 has also borne the ŠKODA logo since 1926. In June 1925, L&K merged with the ŠKODA Works in Pilsen, which was the largest Czech industrial company at that time.

Two other ŠKODA models will be representing the automotive luxury of the 1930s. 758 of the ŠKODA 645 were built between 1929 and 1934. The Czech brand will be presenting a model produced in August 1930 at the Bohemian Rally. The car is powered by a 45hp six-cylinder engine with a displacement of 2492 cm³. Equally majestic is the ŠKODA Superb 3000 OHV dating back to 1939. Only 113 such vehicles left the production like before WWII. The six-cylinder engine with 3137 cm³ displacement delivers 85 hp.

The fifth Oldtimer Bohemia Rally will be taking place from 5 to 8 June. A total of 76 historic vehicles are going to take part in the uniformity drive, leading 450 km through Bohemia’s scenic landscape. The Oldtimer Bohemia Rally is the only classic car event in the Czech Republic under the banner of the international vintage car association‚ ‘Fédération Internationale des Véhicules Anciens’, or FIVA.
