ŠKODA 2016 model year: Safer, more emotive, interconnected and eco-friendly
› Great sports car: New ŠKODA Octavia RS 230 special edition launch in June
› Making its debut: New ŠKODA Fabia Monte Carlo
› Infotainment and connectivity: New MIB II systems for ŠKODA Octavia, Rapid/Rapid Spaceback and Yeti models – SmartLink and SmartGate
› Environment: Octavia, Rapid/Rapid Spaceback, Yeti and Citigo are switching to Euro-6 engines
› Safety: New assistance systems for Rapid/Rapid Spaceback
› Success: ŠKODA’s best first-quarter performance ever; 265,100 deliveries
Mladá Boleslav, 28 April 2015 – With the new ŠKODA Superb, the next milestone in ŠKODA’s model campaign will take place in just a few weeks. In addition, the Czech car manufacturer is placing greater emphasis on model upgrades in 2016, and is presenting an array of attractive new features for its vehicle range. In June, the new special model of the ŠKODA Octavia RS 230, as well as the new ŠKODA Fabia Monte Carlo, will be heading to the dealer showrooms. From June, there will also be a wealth of new product features for the Octavia, Rapid/Rapid Spaceback and Yeti models. More infotainment and more connectivity are priorities. In addition, ŠKODA’s product range is switching to the more environmentally friendly Euro 6 engines. The ŠKODA Rapid and ŠKODA Rapid Spaceback will benefit from new safety assistance systems.
With the largest model campaign in their 120-year company history, ŠKODA aims to grow further over the coming years and increase worldwide deliveries to at least 1.5 million vehicles per year. 2015 is very much defined by this campaign. The new ŠKODA Fabia Combi (estate) made market launch in mid of January, with the new ŠKODA Superb following in June. In the same month, the new ŠKODA Fabia Monte Carlo and ŠKODA Octavia RS 230 will be introduced to the market. Additional new ŠKODA models are in the product pipeline for the second half of the year and for 2016.
The new ŠKODA Superb will be celebrating its sales premiere in few weeks. With its expressive design, impressive technical qualities and outstanding interior space, the completely redeveloped ŠKODA Superb is setting new benchmarks in its segment and marks the beginning of a new era for the brand. ŠKODA’s flagship is revolutionising the brand’s design language. Based on the Volkswagen Group’s innovative MQB technology, ŠKODA’s top model reaches new heights in its third generation when it comes to safety, connectivity and the environment, taking it to the upper-end of the automotive mid-class.
The new ŠKODA Fabia Monte Carlo will also be available in the markets from June – as a hatchback and estate. With its attractive look, rugged interior and comprehensive range of new equipment, the ŠKODA Fabia Monte Carlo is one of the most exciting vehicles in its class. Most important features: black 16- or 17-inch alloy wheels, optional sports suspension, black exterior design features, SunSet (tinted rear window and rear side windows) as well as a tinted panoramic glass roof. Amongst other features, the interior comes with a leather three-spoke sports steering wheel, black interior as well as uniquely designed sports seats. Available since 2011, the second-generation ŠKODA Fabia was the first ŠKODA production model on the market in the Monte Carlo version. In 2014, the Czech manufacturer expanded its Monte Carlo range to the Citigo, Yeti and Rapid Spaceback models. The Monte Carlo design is a tribute to ŠKODA’s 114-year tradition in motorsport success.
Pure sports emotion – the new ŠKODA Octavia RS 230. The new ŠKODA special edition will be available from June. The sportster scores points with racy designs, a sporty interior, modern technology and impressive handling performance. The ŠKODA Octavia RS 230 is the brand’s first car to feature electronically controlled front axle inter-wheel lock as standard – a feature that is particularly attractive for dynamic passages through corners. The ‘230’ in the new RS special model’s name refers to its horsepower, as it is propelled by a 169 kW or 230 hp two-litre petrol engine. ŠKODA has upgraded the two-litre TSI, used in the ŠKODA Octavia RS 230, by 7 kW / 10 hp. Combined with the manual six-speed gearbox, the Octavia RS 230 hatchback accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 6.7 seconds. Top speed is achieved at 250 km/h. This makes the ŠKODA Octavia 230 RS the fastest production Octavia of all time.
All ŠKODA models with Euro 6 engines
With the launch of the new ŠKODA Superb, ŠKODA is upgrading their entire model range in Europe to modern and environmentally friendly Euro 6 engines. From the beginning of June 2015, all ŠKODA models – from the Citigo to the new Superb – will be available with the most up-to-date petrol engines from the EA 211/EA 888 series or with the TDI common-rail diesel engines from the Volkswagen Group’s EA 288 series, including stop-start system and brake energy recovery (for Citigo optional).
The most important engine improvements affect the ŠKODA Yeti and Rapid model lines. The ŠKODA Rapid/Rapid Spaceback features a new EA 211-series 1.2 TSI petrol engine with higher power output: 66 or 81 kW (90 hp, 107 g CO2/km, 4,6 l/100 km or 110 hp, 110 g CO2/km, 4,9 l/100 km); a 1.4 TSI petrol engine with 92 kW (125 hp, 114 g CO2/km, 4,8 l/100 km) is also available. The previous entry-level three-cylinder 1.2 MPI/55 kW (75 hp) petrol engine will no longer be produced. The EA 288 diesel engines are also brand new for the Rapid model range: the three-cylinder 1.4 TDI/66 kW (90 hp, 94 g CO2/km, 3,6 l/100 km) and the four-cylinder 1.6 TDI/85 kW (116 hp, 109 g CO2/km, 4,2 l/100 km) engine.
From the beginning of June, the ŠKODA Yeti will be available with new 1.2 and 1.4 TSI petrol engines from the EA 211 engine range: 1.2 TSI/81 kW (110 hp, 124 g CO2/km, 5,3 l/100 km), 1.4 TSI/92 kW (125 hp, 134 g CO2/km, 5,8 l/100 km), as well as 1.4 TSI/110 kW (150 hp, 147 g CO2/km, 6,3 l/100 km). The following Euro 6 diesel engines (EA 288) are now available for the Yeti: 2.0 TDI/81 kW (110 hp, 115 g CO2/km, 4,4 l/100 km) and 2.0 TDI/110 kW (150 hp, 126 g CO2/km, 4,8 l/100 km). The 2.0 TDI/125 kW (170 hp) is being discontinued.
From the beginning of June, the ŠKODA Octavia’s range of engines will also be fully compliant with Euro 6 standards. The range of Euro 6 petrol engines in the Octavia series extends from the 1.2 TSI/63 kW (86 hp) to the 2.0 TSI with 169 kW (230 hp) in the new special model of the ŠKODA Octavia RS 230. The more powerful version of the 1.2 TSI four-cylinder model will deliver an additional 4 kW (5 hp) compared to before (81 kW instead of 77 kW) and in the 1.4 TSI engine, peak performance increases from 103 kW to 110 kW. The following Euro 6 diesel engines are available: 1.6 TDI with 66 and 81 kW (90 and 110 hp) as well as the 2.0 TDI with 110 and 135 kW (150 and 184 hp).
There are no changes in performance for the ŠKODA Citigo’s Euro 6 engines: the urban car is available with two three-cylinder petrol engines (EA 211) with an optional 44 kW (60 hp) or 55 kW (75 hp), both with a 1-litre capacity. Also available: the Citigo G-TEC, the CNG version.
The new ŠKODA Fabia, launched at the end of 2014, is only available with newly developed Euro-6 drivetrains. There are four petrol engines (three- and four-cylinder EA211 engines) and three new three-cylinder diesel engines from the EA 288 series.
Connectivity at its best with SmartLink and SmartGate – innovative technology for the Superb, Octavia, Rapid/Rapid Spaceback, Yeti and Fabia
The new ŠKODA Fabia, launched in November 2014, introduced some new features for more infotainment and connectivity in the Czech brand’s model series. ŠKODA is now extending the new connectivity features to other vehicles. Their innovative technology is based on Volkswagen Group’s MIB, the Modular Infotainment Matrix (Modularer Infotainment-Baukasten).
The new ŠKODA Superb fulfils the highest demands as regards connectivity. In total, there are four completely new infotainment systems based on the second MIB generation. The top-of-the-range Columbus system has the option of integrated high-speed internet access based on the LTE standard. This is a first for ŠKODA.
The ŠKODA Superb can now be fully connected to your smartphone and operated on the infotainment screen using selected apps. SmartLink covers the standards MirrorLink™, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Developed by ŠKODA, the SmartGate interface gives you the possibility of retrieving specific vehicle data on your smartphone and using it on the go. The new ŠKODA Media Command App even allows you to control the infotainment system on your phone. The Wi-Fi hotspot feature is integrated into the Columbus infotainment system and the new ŠKODA App, even allowing people in the back to operate the functions using their smart device.
Fantastic connectivity solutions are also available for the Octavia, Rapid/Rapid Spaceback and Yeti as part of the 2016 facelift. These models will come with SmartLink upon request, covering the standards MirrorLinkTM, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. SmartGate is also available as an option for the Octavia, Rapid/Rapid Spaceback and Yeti. The Octavia will feature the Bolero and Amundsen infotainment systems with larger, higher resolution screens: the displays have increased in size from 5.8 to 6.5 inches – 800x480 resolution. In addition, the Columbus infotainment-navigation system can be operated from the back, again using the specifically designed app.
In response to customer demand, ŠKODA has broadened the infotainment package for the ŠKODA Fabia to include the built-in navigation system Amundsen. The Amundsen radio-navigation system offers a 2.5-D graphic with an 800x480-screen resolution. MapCare in Europe is included as a series-standard element of the navigation system. This entitles customers to six free updates within three years of the initial purchase.
ŠKODA Octavia Scout receives off-road mode
As a crossover-estate released in mid-2014, the ŠKODA Octavia has excellent handling also on poor roads; the model features powerful all-wheel drive and a rugged off-road look. The individual all-rounder is now even more versatile; from June 2015, the Octavia Scout will be available with an off-road mode. ŠKODA already offers this technology today in their compact SUV – the Yeti.
How does it work? By pressing the 'off road' button on the dashboard, the driver can activate many useful functions that make manoeuvring in difficult terrain easier. This is primarily involved in setting off/traction, breaking and downhill driving. The off-road mode works at speeds up to 30 km/h. A green control light illuminates on the dashboard when in operation. The off-road function is automatically deactivated at speeds over 30 km/h and the green light goes out.
The ASR off-road, EDS off-road and traction functions improve the acceleration and traction performance of the ŠKODA Octavia Scout. The ASR off-road traction control makes setting off easier especially on loose surfaces like gravel or pebbles. With the help of the electronic differential lock (EDL off-road), the force is distributed optimally over all four wheels even in difficult situations. The electronic traction aids uphill starts when driving in the mountains or when a trailer is attached. This includes limiting the revs to 2500 rpm with your foot to the floor. When activated, the Hill Descent Control System makes braking downhill safer – both forward and reverse – on snowy or high-incline roads or steep slopes.
Rapid und Rapid Spaceback: Increased safety with new assistance systems
The already high safety level of the ŠKODA Rapid series is going to be improved. At the end of May, a whole host of innovative safety systems will be available upon request. The new radar-based Front Assistant is triggered before an impending collision. An integral part to this is the city emergency braking function for speeds between 5 and 30 km/hr. The multi-collision brake will also be available upon request for the Rapid and Rapid Spaceback. This reduces the risk of the vehicle colliding with other vehicles following an initial accident on the road.
The Trailer Stability Assistant/TSA will also be available for the Rapid and Rapid Spaceback in the EU, increasing safety when driving with a trailer. The function is automatically activated when the outlet of the trailer coupling is attached to the vehicle. While driving, the TSA continuously analyses possible trailer yaw movements that may arise in certain driving manoeuvres. If the trailer begins to swing in a pendulum-like motion, the TSA intervenes to stabilize both the trailer and car. This is carried out in two stages: The first stage involves automatically baking individual wheels. Should that not be sufficient to bring the oscillations under control, the second stage involves slowing the vehicle and trailer down together. The Trailer Stability Assistant works based on the sensors in the Electronic Stability Program ESC.
The Driver Activity Assistant is also available for the ŠKODA Rapid and Rapid Spaceback, warning the driver if they are fatigued. In addition, the Parking Distance Control front and rear is celebrating its premiere in the ŠKODA Rapid. The Rapid is also going to be available with LED daytime running lights. This is integrated into the front fog lights.
The Light Assistant is also new in the ŠKODA Rapid. This function automatically turns on the low-beam lights when ambient light drops below a certain value, for example in the evening or driving through tunnels. Another new addition is the automatic lock and start system KESSY (Keyless-Entry-Start-and-Exit-SYstem). With KESSY, you can lock and unlock the car and start the engine without a physical key. The Rapid now features the Easy Start version. Easy Start combines the remote central locking with a folding key and engine start at the push of a button. The ŠKODA Rapid has another new feature, too: the indicators have moved from the bumper to the side mirror.
There are also a host of innovations for the brand’s urban car – the ŠKODA Citigo. These include new options for the interior design and new steering wheels, as well as optional LED daytime running lights and wheel designs. New function packages include, for example, a multimedia holder, waste bin and a make-up mirror.

The brand’s completely redesigned flagship, reaching a new level in terms of design and technology, is taking ŠKODA into a new era. The market launch is set for June 2015.

New ŠKODA Fabia R5 set to make its customer racing debut
› First high-tech powerhouse delivered to Raimund Baumschlager’s team
› Baumschlager: “The Fabia R5 will be the best car in its class”
› Head of customer racing, Marcela Janatová: “Very big interest in our new Fabia R5”
Mladá Boleslav, 29 April 2015 – The new ŠKODA Fabia R5 is much sought-after on the global customer racing scene. The first high-tech powerhouse has recently been delivered to Raimund Baumschlager (A). The twelve-time Austrian rally champion will make his first outing with the new car at the Wechselland Rally on 1 and 2 May. When the ŠKODA Fabia R5 made its international debut at the Rally Šumava Klatovy last weekend, the result was a dominant victory. The ŠKODA works team’s car, driven by Asia-Pacific Champion Jan Kopecký (CZ), proved to be both fast and reliable.
“Customer racing is far more than a mere business model for ŠKODA. The entire team is putting its heart and soul into every one of our rally cars. It makes no difference whether that car is a works car or a customer car. Our customers all over the world have come to value this passion and the high degree of technical expertise within our brand,” said ŠKODA Motorsport Director Michal Hrabánek.
“There is great interest in our new ŠKODA Fabia R5 on the customer racing scene. After the successful homologation of our new rally car, we have seen another dramatic rise in the number of enquiries,” said Marcela Janatová, the new head of the ŠKODA Motorsport customer programme. “We will strive to fulfil the requests of most customers before the end of the year. Even this spring, cars are being delivered to Germany, Italy, Belgium and Portugal,” Janatová continued.
The first customer behind the wheel of the four-wheel drive car will be experienced rally driver Baumschlager. The 55-year-old driver has been part of the test team for the new ŠKODA Fabia R5 in recent months. “It is an excellent rally car, which is outstanding to drive on any surface,” praised Baumschlager. “I am sure that the Fabia R5 will be the best car in its class.”
The Baumschlager BRR-Team had already purchased several Fabia Super 2000s from ŠKODA Motorsport and is again one of the most important customers to purchase the Fabia R5. Come mid-May, Fabian Kreim (D) will also make his first appearance in the new car for ŠKODA AUTO Deutschland in the German Rally Championship (DRM).
As well as an ultra-modern car, anyone purchasing the new Fabia R5 also receives technical support from the ŠKODA Motorsport team. “This way, both sides can share their knowhow and benefit from each other in the long term,” said Hrabánek. The basic race-ready version of the new ŠKODA Fabia R5 will cost 180,000 Euros in accordance with the regulations of the International Automobile Federation (FIA).
For that price, customers receive a spectacular four-wheel drive racing car, powered by a 1.6-litre turbo engine in accordance with FIA regulations. As well as changes to the chassis design, this is the largest change compared to the two-litre naturally aspirated engine in the Fabia Super 2000. The new car also features a new five-speed sequential gearbox and McPherson struts.
Baumschlager: “The Fabia R5 is even more accurate to drive and boasts mighty torque thanks to its turbo engine. It is just a brilliant rally car, which will continue ŠKODA’s success story.”

ŠKODA produces 750,000th ŠKODA Superb
› ŠKODA Superb setting benchmarks in automotive mid-class since 2001
› Synonymous with highest Czech quality; success on markets around the world
› Third generation ŠKODA Superb heralds new era for the brand
Mladá Boleslav, 29 April 2015 – ŠKODA has produced the 750,000th ŠKODA Superb. The milestone car rolled off the ŠKODA production line at Kvasiny today. The ŠKODA Superb has been the brand’s flagship since 2001. The third generation of the model is to be launched on the market in June this year. The new ŠKODA Superb has revolutionised ŠKODA’s design language, reaching a new level in terms of comfort and technology, and is the best ŠKODA of all time.
“Three-quarters of a million ŠKODA Superbs produced – this figure is proof of our flagship’s great success,” says ŠKODA CEO Prof. Dr. h.c. Winfried Vahland. “As one of the best vehicles in the automotive mid-class, the ŠKODA Superb has been synonymous with the highest quality from the Czech Republic for the last 14 years, inspiring customers in Europe as well as in China and other markets overseas. It is based on this success that we are entering a new era with the third generation of the model. Our entire model range has taken on a whole new meaning in terms of technology, value, design and emotional appeal. The new ŠKODA Superb surpasses everything that ŠKODA has ever produced, and points to the future of the brand.”
The ŠKODA Superb has worn the crown in ŠKODA’s model range since 2001. It has occupied the top positions in the mid-class vehicle segment since entering the market. This ties the Czech carmaker to their tradition of producing prestigious vehicles; between 1934 and 1949 a ŠKODA model bearing the name ‘Superb’ once rolled off the production lines in Mladá Boleslav. The name of the model was inspired by the Latin word ‘superbus’ meaning ‘proud’ or ‘stately’. With the first ‘modern era’ ŠKODA Superb 14 years ago, the manufacturer has built on this great tradition.
Today, the Superb is one of the best and most successful cars at the top end of the automotive mid-class. The first-generation Superb (2001 to 2008) had the character of a classic saloon, and set standards particularly in terms of spaciousness. The second-generation model from 2008 inspired customers with new, variable applications, more technology and timelessly elegant designs. There has also been an estate version of the Superb available since 2009.
The third-generation ŠKODA Superb has reached a new level in terms of design and technology. ŠKODA’s completely redesigned flagship features the latest innovations from the ŠKODA design team. The above-average amount of room has once again increased, and the new Superb has received the Volkswagen Group’s innovative MQB technology. Spacious interiors, innovative assistance systems for safety, the environment and comfort, powerful Euro-6 engines and ŠKODA-typical 'Simply Clever' details move the model to the top of the automotive mid-class.
The new ŠKODA Superb is to be built at the ŠKODA Kvasiny plant as its predecessor. To start production on the latest generation, the manufacturer has invested heavily in new production technologies and assembly & logistics areas. 1.7 billion CZK has gone into the car body assembly alone. The company plans to invest around 7.2 billion CZK into the site by 2018, creating 1300 new jobs. Manufacturing capacities are set to increase gradually to around 280,000 vehicles per year. Kvasiny is one of ŠKODA’s three manufacturing facilities in the Czech Republic, currently employing 4500 people.
ŠKODA intends to launch production of the Superb in China during 2015. The new model is currently celebrating its premiere at the Shanghai Auto Show in China.

The Czech brand sold more cars between January and March than ever before in the first three months of a year, delivering 265,100 vehicles (increase of 7.2%). Sales revenue increased in the same period by 6.3% to over €3 billion (€3.175 billion); operating profit by 30.9% to €242 million.
“ŠKODA’s success has seamlessly continued from 2014 into the first quarter of 2015, says ŠKODA CEO Prof. Dr. h.c. Winfried Vahland. “The development of our sales figures and financial results in the first three months is a solid basis for the company’s positive development in the future. 2015 remains a challenging year for the automotive industry; the situation on some markets is not yet showing any sign of improvement. We are continuing to focus on profitable growth, however, with our attractive model range.”
ŠKODA’s sales revenue rose sharply between January and March 2015 by 6.3% to €3.175 billion (first quarter of 2014: €2.986 billion). The operating profit increased 30.9% to €242 million (first quarter of 2014: €185 million). The operating margin reached 7.6% compared to 6.2% in the first quarter last year. The higher profitability was mainly due to positive volume and mix effects.
“ŠKODA grew profitably in the first quarter, strengthening their financial position and earnings potential,” says ŠKODA Financial Director Winfried Krause. “Despite a challenging market environment and highly volatile foreign exchange rates, we continue to operate from a position of financial strength.

‘Trainee Car’ with fun factor: The Pickup ŠKODA FUNstar
› 23 ŠKODA trainees build sassy pickup based on the ŠKODA Fabia
› Vehicle project in close cooperation with the ŠKODA Design department and ŠKODA Production
› Premiere at the 34th GTI Meeting at Wörthersee in mid-May
Mladá Boleslav, 30 April 2015 – The new dream car of 23 trainees from the ŠKODA AUTO Vocational School: the sassy Pickup ŠKODA FUNstar. The fun vehicle concept, based on the new ŠKODA Fabia, is the result of ŠKODA’s ‘trainee car’ project, which was run for the first time last year. The ŠKODA FUNstar will be celebrating its public debut at the 34th GTI Meeting at Wörthersee from 13 to 16 May 2015.
The 2 young women and 21 young men have been tinkering on their very own vehicle project since November 2014. Developing ideas and discussing possible solutions, drawing, designing and above all, they have built a very special, a unique car. Inventiveness and flexibility are just as important as pragmatism and implementation skills. The trainees have been supported in their work by ŠKODA chief designer Jozef Kabaň and ŠKODA AUTO Production Director Michael Oeljeklaus. The new 'Trainee Car' is almost ready; the premiere takes place at the legendary GTI Meeting at Wörthersee in mid-May.
This is the second year in a row that the Czech manufacturer has given selected trainees the opportunity to create their dream car. The company’s goal with this programme is to promote and strengthen the vocational students’ creativity and expertise. “After the excellent results of the ŠKODA Trainee Car premiere last year, it was clear that we would continue the project,” says ŠKODA HR Director Bohdan Wojnar. “We are once again delighted with our students’ creative ideas and their goal-oriented implementation. We would like to thank everyone who has supported the project, especially the teachers at the ŠKODA AUTO Vocational School. The ŠKODA FUNstar is a great concept car that is going to surprise and inspire visitors at the GTI Meeting.”
The ŠKODA FUNstar is a sassy pickup based on the new ŠKODA Fabia – cheeky, fresh and surprising. This is a bright, sharp pickup with a real fun factor, not only in name. The ŠKODA FUNstar stands out with its metallic colours steel-grey and moon-white. The sills, grille surround and the rear spoiler form a striking contrast in reflex-green. One special feature is the LED lights mounted below the sidebars. The duel-lens headlights also feature LED technology, with green LED light strips serving as daytime running lights. LEDs are also used in the rear lights.
“Through this project, our apprentices have really shown what they are capable of,” says ŠKODA Production Board member Michael Oeljeklaus whose department has taken the junior employees under their wing in production technology. “The project has been great fun. The students have really got on board with the task, showing great zeal and developing their expertise.”
The ŠKODA FUNstar drives up on 18-inch ‘Gemini’ alloys from the Octavia RS. The engine is a 1.2 TSI petrol with 90 kW. The transmission features a modern seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox. The sporty look continues in the interior. Individual elements are also finished in the colours steel-grey and moon-white. It goes without saying that the students used one of the best sports steering wheels ŠKODA has to offer, and the 1400-Watt sound system offers a fantastic music experience.
The ‘Trainee Car’ project once again demonstrates the high quality of ŠKODA’s vocational training, and the importance of combining theoretical education with practical experience. The ŠKODA Vocational School offers young adults three- or four-year training programmes in technical subjects. The students graduate with an apprenticeship diploma or NVQ level 3 respectively. There are currently 13 training courses, on which 880 full-time trainees are enrolled. 12.5% of these apprentices are young women. In addition, 65 current employees are supplementing their qualifications at a post-graduate level. The ŠKODA Vocational School in Mladá Boleslav was established in 1927. Since then, almost 22,000 students have completed their training there.
Training young people is a key part of the Czech car manufacturer’s social responsibility. The training is free; moreover, students are paid for their work during their apprentices. After successfully completing the training, ŠKODA offers all graduates a permanent job.

Sharp edge: ŠKODA Fabia Combi R5 show car at Wörthersee’s legendary GTI Meeting
› Appearance in green, white and black: ŠKODA Fabia Combi R5 at mid-May GTI meeting
› ŠKODA reinterprets their new rally car – the Fabia R5 Combi
› Quick start: New ŠKODA Fabia R5 spectacular opening in Czech Rally Championships
Mladá Boleslav, 7 May 2015 – The new ŠKODA Fabia R5 caused a sensation at its first ever race. The ŠKODA team brought home a clear victory from the new model’s world premiere in the Šumava Klatovy Rally. The high-tech racer – the ŠKODA Fabia R5 Combi – will be presented as an estate show car at Wörthersee. The world premiere of the design concept will be held at the 34th GTI Meeting at Wörthersee (13 to 16 May 2015). ŠKODA will also be presenting the ŠKODA Fabia R5 alongside three other of the brand’s sports cars.
As many as 200,000 tuning and motorsport enthusiasts will be making the pilgrimage to Wörthersee between 13 and 16 May to indulge in their passion for fast cars. This will be ŠKODA’s sixth appearance at the GTI Meeting where the brand will be presenting five sporty models this year.
ŠKODA’s designers have reinterpreted the Fabia R5 as an estate model to create the ŠKODA Fabia R5 Combi show car. The green, white and black ŠKODA Fabia R5 Combi will be driving onto the stage on 18-inch alloys. At the front, the powerful bumpers and wide air intake testify to the car’s rallying ambitions. The wide contoured grille is finished in back, just as the wing mirror covers. Flared mudguards and powerful doorsills accentuate the model’s racy appearance. The rear sports a huge spoiler, as well as a giant rear bumper, and the wide exhaust pipe is positioned in the centre.
Beneath the surface, the Fabia R5 features an ultramodern 1.6-litre turbo engine, all-wheel-drive, sequential five-speed transmission and McPherson struts.
ŠKODA will additionally be showing the ‘original’ ŠKODA Fabia R5 at Wörthersee. Soon after the model’s first very successful race, the new rally car will be driving to Wörthersee. At the end of April, ŠKODA’s brand new racing car celebrated its dazzling world premiere with a triumphant victory at the opening of this year's Czech Rally Championship. The car driven by the Asia-Pacific Champion Jan Kopecky (CZ) proved to be both fast and reliable. The Fabia R5 is based on ŠKODA’s new series-production Fabia, and is the successor to the Fabia Super 2000, which went down as the most successful rally car in ŠKODA’s history.

Classic cars and Alpine views: Two iconic ŠKODAs in the Bodensee Klassik
› Classics from Mladá Boleslav: ŠKODA Felicia and ŠKODA 1000 MB Rallye
› The Bodensee Klassik passes through three countries between 7 and 9 May
› ŠKODA AUTO celebrates 120th anniversary
Mladá Boleslav, 7 May 2015 – A journey through one of the most beautiful regions in Europe – the Bodensee Klassik. ŠKODA will be heading to the fourth vintage and classic car rally with two legends – the ŠKODA Felicia convertible and the ŠKODA 1000 MB Rallye. The event around the picturesque boarders of Germany, Austria and Switzerland takes place from 7 to 9 May.
“To kick off the new ŠKODA classic-car season, we will be sending two real ŠKODA icons to the circuit,” says Michal Velebný, Head of the restoration workshop at the ŠKODA Museum, adding, “The Felicia and the 1000 MB are two outstanding representatives of ŠKODA vehicles in the 1960s.”
The ŠKODA Felicia convertible from 1961 inspired the spectators at last year’s Bodensee Klassik. The automobile belongs to the historic vehicle collection in Mladá Boleslav. The enchanting car radiates pure joie de vivre, and is a real eye-catcher in turquoise-green. With its elegant body design, striking tailfins, elongated tail section and balanced proportions, the ŠKODA Felicia is one of the finest convertibles of its time, and is now a sought-after collector’s vehicle. The Felicia model rolled off the production lines between 1959 and 1964. Under the bonnet, you will find a four-cylinder petrol engine with 50 horsepower and 1089 cc capacity. Reaching speeds of up to 130 km/h and weighing just 930 kg, the model is a real lightweight racer.
The ŠKODA 1000 MB Rallye racing car is a fascinating representative of ŠKODA’s 114-year tradition in motorsport. The vehicle is based on the ŠKODA 1000 MB dating back to 1967. The 1000 MB was the first ŠKODA of its time to have rear wheel drive, a rear engine and a unibody construction. To be able to take part in long-distance races, ŠKODA made sporty adjustments to the vehicle in the early 1990s, and the ŠKODA 1000 MB Rally was born. Under the bonnet, you will find a modified four-cylinder petrol engine with a displacement of 1.3 litres and an output of 90 hp. The top speed is 170 km/h. The vehicle setting off at Bodensee took part in, among others, the long-distance Panama-Alaska rally in 1997.
This year will mark the fourth Bodensee Klassik. The starting point and destination of the three-day event is Bregenz, Austria. The total route of the five stages covers 550 kilometres. 174 vintage and classic cars, built before 1995, will be journeying through the picturesque Alpine landscape. Reliability and uniformity will be the deciding factors in the victory and placement. The starting gun will fire on Thursday, 7 May, and the cars will be crossing the finish line on Saturday, 9 May in the morning.
ŠKODA AUTO will be celebrating the company’s 120th anniversary this year, making the brand one of the longest established vehicle producers in the world. The roots of the company lie in 1895. 120 years ago, bicycle mechanic Václav Laurin and bookkeeper Václav Klement founded a bicycle-production company together (L&K) in Mladá Boleslav, Bohemia. Automobile manufacture began in 1905: L&K’s first car was the ‘Voiturette A’. What Laurin and Klement began in 1895 has since grown into an internationally successful volume manufacturer with 7 model series and over 40 model versions. Producing more than 17 million vehicles since 1905 has proved the strength of the ŠKODA brand.

› Fun and action: on the racing track with mini racing cars
Mladá Boleslav/Reifnitz, 11 May 2015 – The GTI Meeting at Wörthersee has gathered somewhat of a cult following over recent years. It will be that time again in mid-May for ŠKODA to join the action – this time with five emotive ŠKODA racers, including four sporty versions of the ŠKODA Fabia. First up is the brand new ŠKODA Fabia R5 rally car, an estate version will also be presented for the first time – the Combi show car. The ‘Trainee Car’ ŠKODA FUNstar and the ŠKODA Fabia with Design package Red & Grey Plus will both be celebrating their world premieres. ŠKODA’s show in Austria Reifnitz will be rounded off with the new ŠKODA Octavia Combi RS 230.
The 34th GTI Meeting takes place between 13 and 16 May 2015. As many as 200,000 tuning and motorsport enthusiasts will be making the pilgrimage to Wörthersee, indulging their passion for fast cars. “Motor racing is in our brand’s DNA,” says ŠKODA CEO Prof. Dr. h.c. Winfried Vahland. “ŠKODA has been at home on the international racing scene for the past 114 years. During that time, we’ve had some great success in motorsport. As the 'Mecca' of the tuning scene, the GTI Meeting is a great opportunity to share our racing passion with fans from all over Europe.”
The new ŠKODA Fabia R5 rally car will be driving up to Wörthersee almost directly from its first, highly successful racing appearance. Just three weeks ago, ŠKODA’s brand new racing car celebrated its dazzling world première with a triumphant victory at the opening of this year’s Czech Rally Championships. Now the Fabia R5 is being presented for the first time off the track to a wider public in Reifnitz (Kärnten). The designers have packed in a great number of high-tech features. The green-white-black-painted racing car is equipped with a 1.6-litre turbo engine compliant with FIA regulations. The drivetrain features a sequential five-speed gearbox, and MacPherson struts are used. As stipulated in the rules and regulations, it weighs the minimum 1230 kg. Top ŠKODA drivers were involved in the development of the new Fabia R5.
The ŠKODA Fabia R5 Combi rally show car being presented for the first time in Reifnitz will also be giving that real motorsport feeling. With its eye-catching, white, green and black finish, the vehicle certainly looks the part from the word go. The ŠKODA Fabia R5 Combi drives up on 18-inch alloys. At the front, the powerful bumpers and wide air intake testify to the car’s rallying ambitions. The wide contoured grille is finished in black, just as the wing mirror covers. Flared mudguards and powerful doorsills accentuate the model’s racy appearance. The rear sports a huge spoiler, as well as a giant rear bumper, and the wide exhaust pipe is positioned in the centre. Under the bonnet, you will find the 1.6-litre turbo engine from the ŠKODA Fabia R5 rally car.
Presented to the general public for the first time at Wörthersee – the ŠKODA FUNstar, a sassy pickup based on the ŠKODA Fabia. The emotive concept vehicle is the result of the second ‘ŠKODA Trainee Car’. This involved ŠKODA trainees creating their dream car: a small pickup with a real fun factor – not only in the name.
A small car with sporty ambitions – the ŠKODA Fabia with Design package Red & Grey. The racy Fabia kitted out with ŠKODA genuine accessories is a real eye-catcher. The vehicle is finished in moon-white, with grey-red stripes running over the bonnet, roof and boot. Red Savio 17-inch alloys and red wing mirror covers as well as the sports package, which includes a front spoiler, side sills, rear diffuser, and a black grille roof spoiler highlight the dynamic appearance. The model also features tinted (SunSet) rear and side windows set in black. These sporty elements also continue to the interior.
ŠKODA’s emotive appearance at Wörthersee is complete with the new ŠKODA Octavia Combi RS 230. The racy ŠKODA special edition celebrated its acclaimed world premiere a few weeks ago. Its market launch is set for June. The ŠKODA Octavia Combi RS 230 scores with a racy design, sporty interior, modern technology and impressive power. This is also the first series-produced vehicle from to ŠKODA to feature an electronically controlled front-axle differential lock for particularly dynamic cornering. The ‘230’ designation refers to the horsepower of the new RS-special edition that features a 169 kW or 230 hp two-litre petrol engine. With the 2.0 TSI/169 kW (230 hp) engine combined with manual six-speed transmission, the Octavia Combi RS 230 accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 6.8 seconds, and can reach a top speed of 247 km/h, making the ŠKODA Octavia Combi 230 RS the fastest series-produced Octavia Combi of all time.
In addition to the sporty model highlights, ŠKODA will again be presenting a special kind of ŠKODA racing experience at Wörthersee. Visitors can take part in‘ŠKODA’s Crazy Rally Ride’ – a special racing track next to the stands where contestants go head-to-head in mini racing cars.

Investment: New ŠKODA Superb promises best residual value
› Four service providers (EurotaxGlass, CAP*, DAT and IBS Automotive) confirm the new ŠKODA Superb’s excellent residual value
› EurotaxGlass: Superb is the residual-value winner in Germany, Italy, France, Spain and Poland; 49-40 percent residual value after three years/90,000 km
› Superb wins residual value comparison in the UK and Czech Republic
› New era: New ŠKODA Superb available on the first markets from June
Mladá Boleslav, 12 May 2015 – Seven markets, four residual-value studies, one winner: Just two months before its market launch, the new ŠKODA Superb is set to have the most stable residual value in the European mid-class. According to the results from seven independent service providers (EurotaxGlass, CAP*, DAT and IBS Automotive), ŠKODA’s new flagship prevails against its direct competitors.
In the EurotaxGlass study conducted in five countries (Germany, Italy, France, Spain and Poland), the calculated future residual values of the new ŠKODA flagship lay between 49 and 40 percent of the purchase price (after three years and 90,000 km). Another study in Germany by CAP */DAT forecast a residual value of 50 per cent (after three years and 60,000 km) for the new Superb.
In the UK, the CAP* institute determined a residual value of 45 percent (after three years and 36,000 miles) for the new Superb. On the Czech market, the service provider IBS Automotive calculated a residual value of 38 percent for the Superb after four years and 120,000 kilometres.
EurotaxGlass, CAP, DAT, and IBS Automotive are international service providers for the automotive trade. The multi-brand studies forecast the expected depreciation of newly introduced models.
“This victory in four residual-value studies proves the quality and value retention of our new top model,” says Werner Eichhorn, ŠKODA Sales and Marketing Director. We plan to win over new customers to the brand from the private and business sectors with the new Superb.”
The following models were examined in the latest residual-value studies alongside the new ŠKODA Superb: Ford Mondeo, Hyundai i40, Opel (Vauxhall) Insignia, Citroen C5, Toyota Avensis, Peugeot 508 and Mazda 5. The version of the model varied depending on the market, but the result was always the same: the winner is the new Superb.
Included in the evaluation were criteria, such as consumption/CO2 emissions, value for money, quality and reliability. Design and brand aspects also played a role.
Featuring expressive designs, impressive technical qualities and outstanding spaciousness, the completely redeveloped ŠKODA Superb sets the benchmark in its segment. ŠKODA’s flagship has revolutionised the brand’s design. Based on the Volkswagen Group’s innovative MQB technology, the third generation of ŠKODA’s top model has reached a new level in terms of safety, connectivity, and environmental-friendliness, and has move to the upper end of the automotive mid-class.
The ŠKODA Superb has formed the apex of ŠKODA’s model range since 2001. To date, the brand has delivered around 700,000 first and second-generation ŠKODA Superbs to customers all over the world. This makes the model one of the most popular vehicles in its class.
*) The results of the service provider CAP are subject to final test drives

ŠKODA’s designers have reinterpreted the Fabia R5 as an estate model to create the surprising ŠKODA Fabia R5 Combi show car, with highlights including the green, white and black paint job, 18-inch alloys, powerful bumpers, flared mudguards and doorsills, as well as a huge rear spoiler.
The ŠKODA FUNstar – ŠKODA’s ‘Trainee Car’ will be celebrating its world premiere at Wörthersee. The sassy pickup, based on the Fabia, was designed and constructed by ŠKODA apprentices in months of hard work. A 1400-Watt sound system provides a surround sound experience for all passengers to enjoy.
The ŠKODA Fabia is showing off its sporty ambition with the Red & Grey Plus design package. The moon-white Fabia kitted out with ŠKODA genuine accessories is a real eye catcher: the model’s many interesting features inclue red and grey stripes run over the bonnet, roof and boot, complementing the red 17-inch alloys and wing mirror casings.
The new ŠKODA Octavia Combi RS 230 completes ŠKODA’s grand appearance at Wörthersee. The fastest Octavia Combi (estate) of all time reaches a top speed of 247 km/h, accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in just 6.8 seconds. This is also the first series-produced vehicle from ŠKODA to feature an electronically controlled front-axle differential lock for particularly dynamic cornering.
In addition to the sporty model highlights, ŠKODA will again be hosting a special kind of ŠKODA racing experience for all ages at Wörthersee. Visitors can take part in ‘ŠKODA’s Crazy Rally’ – a special racing track next to the stands where contestants go head-to-head in mini racing cars.

The new ŠKODA Superb Combi: Spacious giant with top-of-the-range technology – interplay of functionality and emotion
› In typical ŠKODA style: New Superb Combi with best-in-class interior space
› Design: Emotive, expressive, dynamic elegance, balanced proportions
› Simply Clever: More space, more comfort, more safety, more connectivity, more eco-friendly and more driving dynamics
› Starting signal: Motor Show debut at the IAA, market launch in September 2015
Mladá Boleslav, 26 May 2015 – ŠKODA is once again making its mark with the new ŠKODA Superb. Just a few months after the debut of the hatchback, the new ŠKODA Superb Combi will start into markets from September. Based on innovative MQB technology, this attractive newcomer is setting new standards in its segment in terms of space, comfort, safety, connectivity and the environment. The new ŠKODA Superb Combi has the largest interior space and luggage compartment within its class. The total boot volume is nearly 2,000 litres. At the same time, the new and expressive ŠKODA design has transformed the new-generation model into an emotionally charged estate with dynamic elegance. The new ŠKODA Superb Combi, with this successful overall package, offers an interplay of functionality, emotion and aesthetics.
“With the new ŠKODA Superb Combi, we have further developed the existing strengths of the Superb and once again set a benchmark for the competition. With its expressive, dynamic design, we are emphasising and complimenting ŠKODA’s expertise in the estate segment,” said Dr Frank Welsch, ŠKODA Board Member for Technical Development. “The combination of aesthetics, top-of-the range technology and the highest practical benefits makes the new Superb Combi an outstanding vehicle within its segment. With the new flagship, we will attract new customers to our brand.”
ŠKODA has offered an estate version of its top model, the ŠKODA Superb, since 2009. To date, ŠKODA has delivered more than 200,000 ŠKODA Superb Combis to customers worldwide. This represents 35 percent of all ŠKODA Superbs sold in the period from 2009 to now.
The new ŠKODA Superb Combi offers the best interior space in its segment. Based on MQB technology, the wheelbase has been extended by 80 mm to 2,841 mm. Simultaneously the track width has increased to 1,584 mm at the front and to 1,572 mm at the rear. The result: even more interior space. In the latest edition, driver and passenger have 39 mm more elbow room than before. Headroom in the front is 995 mm and 1,001 mm in the rear – more than in any other model in the segment. Rear knieroom is 157 mm – around twice as much as the next-best competitor. Elbow room in the rear has been increased by 70 mm. The boot volume also sets a new benchmark: 660 litres, representing an increase of 27 litres compared to the previous model. When the back seats are folded down, the spacious giant’s boot volume reaches an impressive 1,950 litres. The ŠKODA Superb Combi achieves values only otherwise achieved in the upper mid-segment.
The new and exciting design of the new ŠKODA Superb Combi makes a powerful statement. The design is more passionate, modern and emotionally charged than ever before. Hardly any other representative in the mid-size estate segment offers as much dynamic elegance as the new flagship of ŠKODA.
The use of MQB also plays a central role when it comes to styling: the longer wheelbase, the shortened front overhang as well as the widened track provide balanced proportions and create the car’s extremely dynamic and sporty impression. In combination with increased vehicle length, a long wheelbase, shortened front overhang, a sweeping roof line and a steeply angled rear window, the silhouette evolves as a stylistically confident, perfect entity. The front and rear are expressive and unmistakable.
The new ŠKODA Superb Combi comes with a veritable armada of new assistance systems from higher vehicle classes for increased safety, eco-friendliness and comfort. Like the Superb hatchback, the new Superb Combi also features Dynamic Chassis Control (DCC). Thanks to the new EU6 engines, the latest edition is more powerful and at the same time up to 30 percent more efficient than its predecessor. Connectivity reaches a new level of quality: the latest generation of infotainment systems automatically connects to all standard smartphones via SmartLink (MirrorLinkTM, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto technology). The optional high-speed internet connection turns the new Superb Combi into a ŠKODA hotspot on wheels.
In September, the new ŠKODA Superb Combi will celebrate its premiere at the 66th International Motor Show (IAA) in Frankfurt am Main in Germany. The new model will be launched onto the first markets in the same month.

Kitzbuehel Alpine Rally: Two ŠKODA classics in the historic car parade on fabulous alpine roads
› ŠKODA Felicia and ŠKODA 1000 MB are attending the 28th Kitzbuehel Rally
› 188 teams drive the grand journey along the most beautiful alpine roads
› This year, ŠKODA AUTO celebrates its 120-year anniversary
Mladá Boleslav, 27 May 2015 – Breath-taking mountain roads, fascinating classics and high celebrity presence make up the 28th Kitzbuehel Alpine Rally (27-30 May 2015). ŠKODA will be present at the popular classic tour for the fifth time and sends a ŠKODA Felicia and a ŠKODA 1000 MB to take part in the rally. A total of 188 participants will begin the legendary alpine rally in the last weekend in May.
“Each year, the Kitzbuehel Alpine Rally is a highlight of the season. The routes are beautiful yet challenging at the same time. This is the perfect combination for both the Felicia and the 1000 MB,” said Michal Velebný, Restoration Workshop Coordinator at the ŠKODA Museum.
Steep climbs, spectacular passes, narrow winding roads – the mountain roads around the Tyrolean city Kitzbuehel are made for the ŠKODA 1000 MB Rallyecar. The starter at the alpine rally has amongst others also been an entrant at the long-distance Panama-Alaska Rally (in 1997) and it was amongst the starting grid in Kitzbuehel in 2014. The car has a modified 1.3 litre four-cylinder petrol engine which transmits 90 PS to the road. The 1000 MB Rallye reaches a top speed of up to 170 km/h. For race use, there are sports seats and a roll cage. The 1000 MB Rally is modelled on the ŠKODA 1000 MB from 1967. The 1000 MB Rallye was, at its time, the first ŠKODA with rear-wheel drive, a rear engine and a unibody. In the 1990s, ŠKODA made modifications for motorsport and created the ŠKODA 1000 MB Rally for use in long-distance events.
A more emotive representation of the 1960s is the turquoise-green convertibleŠKODA Felicia from 1961. The car already took part in the alpine rally last year and came third place overall. As one of the best-looking convertibles of its time, the 2+2-seater exudes a pure zest for life and is a much sought-after collector’s car. The elegant body shape, distinctive tail fins, elongated tail section and the harmonious proportions make the ŠKODA Felicia a real eye-catcher. From 1959 to 1964, a total of around 15,000 Felicia models rolled off the production line. It has a four-cylinder petrol engine with 50 PS and a capacity of 1,089 ccm. At only 930 kg, the Felicia reaches a top speed of 130 km/h.
The Kitzbuehel Alpine Rally is one of the most beautiful classic car events in Europe. The combination of the gorgeous alpine landscape, fascinating mountain roads, the atmosphere at Kitzbuehel and the numerous famous participants from motor racing, showbiz, business and sports makes this a special event. This year, vehicles built from 1972 onwards are taking part for the first time. The 188 participants can expect an almost 600-km-long journey along the mountain roads in Tyrol, Salzburg and Bavaria, between the Kitzbuehel Alps, Wilder Kaiser, Hochkoenig, Hohe Tauern and Watzmann. The highlights include the breath-taking Hochkoenig route at Bischofshofen and the Rossfeld mountain stage at Bayrischzell. The Alpine Rally starts on Thursday (28 May) with the traditional prologue “Hohe Salve”. On Saturday afternoon, the cars will drive back past thousands of spectators in Kitzbuehel town centre as they make their way past the finish line.
This year, ŠKODA AUTO celebrates its 120-year anniversary, making the company one of the oldest car manufacturers in the world. The brand’s heritage dates back to 1895. At the time, bicycle mechanic Václav Laurin and bookseller Václav Klement founded a factory to manufacture bicycles in the Bohemian town of Mladá Boleslav. They began manufacturing cars in 1905 with the ‘Voiturette A’. What Laurin and Klement began in 1895 has now developed into a successful international volume manufacturer with seven model series and over 40 model variants. Over 17 million ŠKODA cars have been produced since 1905 which represents the strength of the brand.
