Sales success: ŠKODA increases production of Fabia and Rapid Spaceback
› ŠKODA Mladá Boleslav plant now running in three shifts for 24/7 production of Fabia and Rapid Spaceback
› MBII production line capacity increases from a daily 800 to 1200 vehicles
› 800 new jobs created
Mladá Boleslav, 3 February 2015 – ŠKODA’s new models are doing exceptionally well. In 2014 the Czech carmaker sold more than one million vehicles for the first time in a single year. Accordingly, ŠKODA production is now shifting up a gear: At the main plant in Mladá Boleslav, ŠKODA has recently upped the manufacturing capacities for the new ŠKODA Fabia and Fabia Combi (estate), as well as the ŠKODA Rapid Spaceback. Up to 1200 of these models now run off the MBII production line every day in three shifts. Previously, a maximum of 800 vehicles could be produced on a daily basis in two shifts. ŠKODA has created an additional 800 new jobs to staff the third shift.
“The young ŠKODA model range is doing exceptionally well on the market,” says ŠKODA Michael Oeljeklaus, ŠKODA Production Director. “Our production is at full throttle – especially at our main plant in Mladá Boleslav. Over the coming years, ŠKODA plans to increase sales to at least 1.5 million per year. To this end, we will continue to invest in our domestic and international production capacities.”
The current expansion in production capacities at the MBII line in Mladá Boleslav were necessary due to the growing success of the Fabia and Rapid Spaceback. ŠKODA had begun expanding and technologically upgrading key areas of the Fabia production halls in Mladá Boleslav as early as summer 2014. This was when the new, ultra-modern facility was finished, enabling the new assistance systems to be configured. The paint shop was also extended and partially redeveloped.
ŠKODA operates two production lines in Mladá Boleslav: The Fabia, Fabia Combi (estate) and Rapid Spaceback are manufactured on the MBII line; the Octavia, Octavia Combi (estate) and Rapid saloon run off the other line. The production capacity currently stands at 1200 cars per day.
By expanding their production capacities at the main plant in Mladá Boleslav, the Czech manufacturer is once again demonstrating their importance as an employer and major industrial investor in the Czech Republic. Since 1991, ŠKODA has invested more than 280 billion Czech Crowns into the manufacturing processes and factories at the locations of Mladá Boleslav, Kvasiny and Vrchlabí. In 2014, the respective investments totalled 362 million euros. Last autumn, ŠKODA and the Volkswagen Group invested 45 million euros alone in the newly opened ŠKODA Engine Centre – one of the largest industrial investments of recent years in the Czech Republic.
The Fabia’s market launch was extremely successful. The small car is setting standards in its segment, and has won a number of international awards; in the Czech Republic, the new ŠKODA Fabia was voted ‘Car of the year 2015’. In the UK, the model received the renowned title ‘What Car? Car of the Year 2015’. The ŠKODA Rapid Spaceback has also taken the consumer market by storm. In 2014 sales of the Rapid Spaceback increased nine fold over the previous year, with a total of 72,000 sold around the world (2013: 8000). The brand’s first compact hatchback model offers fresh-dynamic designs, lots of room, a host of ‘Simply Clever’ ideas, the highest safety, low fuel consumption and is great value for money.

Iconic Vintage ŠKODAs at the Rétromobile
› ŠKODA presents four historical gems at one of the most important international classic car shows
› Laurin & Klement Voiturette A commemorates the brand’s significant anniversaries this year
› The carefully renovated ŠKODA Supersport type 966 is one highlight in Paris, alongside the ŠKODA Popular Sport Monte Carlo and ŠKODA 110R
Mladá Boleslav, 4 February 2015 – ŠKODA traditionally opens the classic car season at the prestigious Paris Rétromobile classic car show, and this year will be no exception. 2015 will mark the 40th anniversary of the first Rétromobile. This year ŠKODA will be taking four gems from their collection to the French capital – among them the faithful replica of the first model by Laurin & Klement in Mladá Boleslav – the Voiturette A, built since 1905.
Due to the extraordinary skill of the renovation team at the ŠKODA Museum, Rétromobile visitors will be able to experience first-hand the unique ŠKODA Supersport type 966 dating back to 1950. The racing car with a cigar-shaped body was the fastest Czechoslovakian automobile of its day in, reaching speeds of up to 197.7 km/h. Since 2007, the vehicle has been a part of the collection at the ŠKODA Museum where it was painstakingly restored.
“The replica of the first vehicle ever to be produced in Mladá Boleslav between 1905 and 1907 – the Voiturette A – is also sure to be a crowd magnet to the ŠKODA stand,” says Michal Velebný, head of the renovation workshop at the ŠKODA Museum. The Laurin & Klement Voiturette A has a petrol-V-engine with 1005 cm3 displacement under the bonnet, which gives the car a top speed of 40 km/h (7hp).
The visitors certainly won’t be walking passed the other three vehicles either. The elegant ŠKODA Popular Monte Carlo Coupé dating back to 1937 is an icon of streamlined design from the second half of the 1930s, and a tribute to the great achievements of the driver duo Pohl/Hausman at the famous Monte Carlo Rally in 1936 and 1937. This model in black is one of the automotive jewels from the collection in Mladá Boleslav, and has already received many awards for its outstanding condition, including the victory in the Concours d´Elegance at the Schloss Bensberg Classic 2012 in the rallying category, which is probably the most important.
The beautifully attractive ŠKODA 110 R Coupé will be at Porte de Versailles, representing the younger production era of the 1970s. The sporty coupé, based on the ŠKODA 100 and 110 models, was produced at Kvasiny between 1970 and 1980, and has recently been rediscovered by collectors for its classic car potential – exactly the kind of vehicle that attracts experts from around the world to the prestigious fair. The classic car exhibition in Paris will also be enriched by the modern concept vehicle – the ŠKODA VisionC, which offers visitors the chance to experience the future design focus of the brand from Mladá Boleslav.
The 40th Rétromobile event will be taking place from 4 to 8 February at the Paris Expo exhibition centre – Porte de Versailles. The car show regularly attracts more than 100,000 visitors from around the world, with 450 exhibitors bringing more than 500 vehicles.

The design of the new Superb’s lights has a new sharpness to it: the accurate cut, the precise workmanship, the use of geometrical triangular shapes and the three-dimensional contours create a striking brand distinctiveness, modelled after the Bohemian tradition of glass art.

ŠKODA Superb – a new era: world premiere of the new ŠKODA flagship in Prague
› Celebratory: unveiling with 800 international guests in Forum Karlín in Prague
› Full of emotion: new ŠKODA Superb has revolutionised the ŠKODA design
› Upgrade: comfortable space giant with best interior space in its class
› MQB technology: optimum safety, top environmental values, great connectivity
› Start: market launch of the third-generation model in June 2015
Mladá Boleslav/Prague, 17 February 2015 – Spectacular world premiere for the best ŠKODA ever: in Forum Karlín in Prague, the new ŠKODA Superb rolled into the spotlight for the first time today. The new ŠKODA Superb has revolutionised the design of the brand. Generous dimensions, innovative assistance systems for safety, the environment and comfort, powerful EU6 engines and ŠKODA-typical ‘Simply Clever’ features have moved the brand’s flagship to the upper end of the automotive mid-class segment. In brief: the new Superb is the best ŠKODA ever and the highlight of the company’s largest-ever model campaign.
ŠKODA CEO Prof. Dr. h.c. Winfried Vahland said during the new ŠKODA Superb’s first appearance: “This car marks the beginning of a new era for ŠKODA. In recent years, we have renewed and expanded our model range. The new ŠKODA Superb demonstrates our aspirations in the automotive mid-class segment. In terms of creativity and technology, it reaches a new level of performance, shows ŠKODA’s reclaimed position and leads the way into the future of the brand. This fantastic car will attract new private and business customers to ŠKODA,” said Vahland.
The world premiere of the new ŠKODA Superb took place in Forum Karlín in Prague, in front of 800 senior guests – ŠKODA welcomed international media representatives as well as guests from the group, the company, politics, business and society. The new ŠKODA Superb was the ‘star’ of the evening. Its first appearance was accompanied by the world premiere of the ‘Superb Symphony’ with the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra. Other highlights: the performances of soul legend Chaka Khan and singer Aura Dione.
ŠKODA intends to continue the success story of the brand’s top model range with the third-generation Superb. To date, the car manufacturer has delivered more than 700,000 first- and second-generation Superbs to customers.
Elegance, strength, dynamism – revolutionary ŠKODA design
With its new design, the new ŠKODA Superb demonstrates the brand’s emotional strength, bringing the exciting design language of the ‘ŠKODA VisionC’ show car into production. “The wheelbase has been increased by 80 mm and at the same time the front vehicle overhang is 61 mm shorter than before. This new architecture provides the car with dynamic elegance,” said ŠKODA’s Head of Design Jozef Kabaň. At the same time, the new Superb offers further improved functionality and even more space.
The front conveys power and self-assurance. The striking grille, distinctive headlights and the deeply-drawn front-end architecture – all of this has been designed for increased optical width. The bonnet has powerfully shaped contours. The side view appears dynamic and elegant. The razor-sharp tornado line stretches the vehicle and, together with additional lighter surfaces, creates effective contrasts between light and shade. The car’s narrow pillars, the precision-cut window outline and the gently sloping roofline give the vehicle a coupé-style look. The large wheels and the striking wheel arches emphasise the exclusive appearance.
The design of the rear is self-confident and powerful. Horizontal lines are also accentuated here. The two-part, broad and narrow taillights shine with LED technology as standard and sharply intensify the ŠKODA-typical ‘C’ shape of the lights. At the same time, crystalline elements provide the taillights with additional luminosity. Striking: the trailing edge on the tailgate. The completely redesignedinterior continues the essential design details of the exterior. This includes the emphasis on horizontal lines, which gives the already spacious interior an even more generous feel. Clear shapes, precise workmanship and the use of high-quality materials result in a premium appearance.
Upgrade – a new dimension of comfort and space
The space of the new Superb has once again increased in comparison to the already generous values of the previous model. The driver and front seat passenger enjoy 39 mm more elbow room and more headroom. With 157 mmlegroom the rear space is almost ‘stately’. This is about twice as much as in the nearest competitor model. The headroom measures 980 mm; no other model in the segment can offer this. The rear elbow room has increased by 69 mm. The 625-litre boot capacity is the top value in its segment, 30 litres more than in the second-generation Superb.
The new ŠKODA Superb is the brand’s first model offering adaptive Dynamic Chassis Control (DCC) including Driving Mode Select. New air-conditioning systems, including for the first time the new three-zone air conditioning, provide optimum temperature control and top air quality. The sliding and tilting panoramic electric roof is optional in the new ŠKODA Superb.Auxiliary heating, heated seats, wireless heated windscreen and heated washer jets are available for the colder months. The rain/light sensor switches the windscreen wipers on and off automatically and automatically switches between daytime running lights and dipped beam as required.
Instead of one umbrella in the rear left door there is now one umbrella in each of the front doors. The new, electric tailgate is particularly convenient and can be complemented with an optional virtual pedal. The electric tailgate and virtual pedal work in combination with theKESSY automatic locking and starting system. The new Superb comes with the latest generation of Park Assist for automatically driving in and out of parking spaces. In addition, the car features a rear-view camera for the first time. The traditional handbrake is replaced by an electricparking brake as standard.
Perfectly connected
Connectivity features make their entrance in the third-generation ŠKODA Superb. There is a total offour, completely new infotainment systems based on Volkswagen Group’s MIB technology (Modularer Infotainment-Baukasten). The Columbus top model is available on request with an integratedhigh-speed internet connection based on the LTE standard. This is a first for ŠKODA.
The ŠKODA Superb can be connected to a smartphone for the first time and selected apps can be operated from the infotainment system’s screen. SmartLinkincludes MirrorLinkTM, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The SmartGate interface, developed by ŠKODA, allows certain vehicle data to be accessed and on the user’s smartphone apps. The new ŠKODA Media Command app and the Wi-Fi hotspot integrated into the Columbus system allows the infotainment system to be controlled remotely from the rear seats for the first time. The Canton Sound System with twelve speakers and 610 W output turn the new ŠKODA Superb into a concert hall on wheels.
A new dimension of ‘Simply Clever’
The new ŠKODA Superb is the cleverest ŠKODA ever. 29 ‘Simply Clever’ featuresmake life easier for driver and passengers. 23 solutions are new in the Superb, ten of these are completely new for the brand. The new ‘Simply Clever’ solutions include practical items such as a mechanically retractable towing device, a tablet holder in the rear, a tablet storage compartment in the front Jumbo Box, a USB port and 230 V socket in the rear, single-handed opening for 0.5-litre bottles and an extra high-visibility vest storage compartment in all four doors. Both front and both rear doors will each hold a 1.5-litre bottle. The interior’s versatility is increased by the option to fold down the back seats from the boot. The passenger seat can also be folded down. New cargo fasteners secure loose objects in the boot. An ice scraper in the fuel filler flap is standard in the Superb. In addition, there are new storage nets on the inside edges of the front seats, a removable LED torch in the boot and misfuel protection.
Top efficiency
The new ŠKODA Superb’s new engines offer up to 30 per cent lower fuel consumption values and emissions. The ŠKODA Superb GreenLine consumes just 3.7 l/100 km and emits 95 g CO2 per km. The vehicle is up to 75 kg lighter and the aerodynamics have been improved. The combination of up to 20 per cent more power, reduced air resistance and a reduction in weight also result in remarkable driving dynamics.
The new ŠKODA Superb comes with direct-injection turbocharged engines based on MQB technology (five TSI petrol, three TDI common-rail diesel). All powertrains comply with EU6 standards and have Stop-Start technology and brake energy recovery as standard. The petrol engines have a power output of between 92 kW (125 HP) and 206 kW (280 HP), the diesel engines between 88 kW (120 HP) and 140 kW (190 HP). Except for the entry-level petrol version, all engines are available with modern dual-clutch transmission. Four engines are available with all-wheel drive based on the Haldex 5 clutch.
No compromise on safety
The top-level safety of the new ŠKODA Superb is impressive. Electronic Stability Control including Multi-Collision Brake is standard. The additional standard equipment for EU countries includes: Front Assist with Emergency Brake, electronic Tyre Pressure Monitor, seven airbags, and five three-point automatic seat belts with fastening alerts as well as safety headrests. Rear side airbags are optional. Also standard: XDS+, a function of the electronic differential lock. From the Ambition trim line upwards, the Speedlimiter is fitted as standard.
Optional assistance systems are also available. Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC)keeps the vehicle at a safe distance from the vehicle ahead. With the enhancedCrew Protect Assist, driver and front passenger are ‘prepared’ for an impending collision. Lane Assist helps the vehicle stay in lane.Traffic Jam Assist, available for the first time for the model and for the brand, increases safety and comfort in traffic and during stop-start driving. The new Emergency Assist activates the brakes, should the driver become incapable of driving, automatically bringing the vehicle to a standstill.
The completely new Blind Spot Detect system supports the driver in changing lanes safely by alerting them to vehicles in their blind spot. A core component of Blind Spot Detect is the Rear Traffic Alert function which is available for the brand and model for the first time. Driver Alert guards against driver fatigue. Travel Assist with Traffic Sign Recognition, available for the first time in the ŠKODA Superb, constantly informs the driver about the current traffic situation.
The headlights are fitted with halogen technology or with bi-xenon lights including AFS function and LED daytime running lights. The high beam can be electronically controlled via Light Assist or via the extended Smart Light Assist function (masked high beam). Striking rear LED lights are standard in the new Superb, and there are also two reflectors on both sides of the rear bumper.
The new Superb’s completelyredeveloped chassis with MacPherson strut front and multi-link rear axle provides optimum driving stability even in demanding situations.

“The new superb heralds the dawn of a new era for ŠKODA,” says ŠKODA CEO Prof. Dr. h.c. Winfried Vahland. “Over recent years, ŠKODA has established itself as an international volume manufacturer. Our new flagship is now the highlight of ŠKODA’s most comprehensive model campaign ever, and shows where ŠKODA stands today.” He continues, “The car’s outstanding design and engineering qualities, and the unbeatable space make our flagship the new benchmark in the automotive mid-class. The new ŠKODA Superb is a clear demonstration of our growth and points to the future of the brand.”
With its new, expressive design the new ŠKODA demonstrates the emotional power of the brand. The new Superb brings the exciting design of the 'ŠKODA VisionC' show car into series production. This elegant yet dynamic appearance is supported by the use of the modular transverse matrix (MQB) from the Volkswagen Group. The new ŠKODA Superb sets standards in terms of room and comfort. The latest generation of the model offers the best head and legroom in the rear and the largest luggage space in its segment. At the same time, the saloon is smarter than ever before with 29 ‘Simply Clever’ details.
The new Superb has reached a new dimension in terms of technology. For the first time in a ŠKODA, the vehicle features Dynamic Chassis Control (DCC), including drive profile selection. Alongside this there is a brand new air-conditioning system, including the new three-zone climate control. An electronic sliding and raising panoramic roof is also available, along with auxiliary heating, heated seats, wirelessly heated windscreen and the electronic boot that can also be opened with a virtual pedal. Thanks to the new parking assistant, the park distance control and the new rear camera, getting in and out of parking spaces has never been easier. And one other feature just in case: the two umbrellas tucked away in the front door panels.
The range of safety systems is more comprehensive than ever. These include the series-standard multi-collision brake and the systems Front Assist, including City Emergency Braking, Automatic Distance Control, Proactive Occupant Protection, Lane Assist, Congestion Assistant, Blind Spot Warning, Reverse Parking Assistant, Emergency Assistant, Fatigue Detection, Speed Limiter, Traffic Sign Recognition, Hill Start Assist and Electronic Tyre Pressure Monitoring system. The new Superb also features Smart Light Assist for the first time.
Connectivity has never been better: The new infotainment system automatically connects to many smartphones. Details about the vehicle can be retrieved via SmartGate on your smartphone, too. Thanks to high-speed Internet connection, the Superb is the first ŠKODA hotspot on wheels. With the ŠKODA Media Command app, you can operate the infotainment system from the rear from a tablet device.
The new ŠKODA Superb boasts record values in consumption and emissions. Thanks to the new engines (five petrol and three TDI common rail diesel), weight reduced by up to 75 kg, and better aerodynamics, the new model consumes up to 30% less fuel, emitting less CO2 than previously. Despite the reduced consumption, the new engines actually provide up to 20% more power on the road. 4x4 is also available.
Automotive powerhouse – the new ŠKODA Octavia RS 230
Pure sports emotion – the new ŠKODA Octavia RS 230. ŠKODA’s new special edition will be celebrating its world premiere in Geneva. The automotive powerhouse features a racy design, sporty interior, modern technology and impressive power. The ŠKODA Octavia RS 230 is the first ŠKODA to feature – as series-standard – an electronically controlled differential front axle lock for dynamic cornering. The additional ‘230’ designation relates to the new RS special edition’s horsepower, accelerating the car from 0 to 100 km/h in just 6.7 seconds with its 169 kW or 230hp two-litre petrol engine. The car’s top speed stands at 250 km/h, making the ŠKODA Octavia RS 230 the fastest series-produced Octavia of all time. The Octavia RS special edition’s market launch is set for June 2015.
Sporty design - the new ŠKODA Fabia Monte Carlo
Also celebrating its world premiere in Geneva, the new ŠKODA Fabia Monte Carlo – in both the saloon and estate versions. ŠKODA’s new small car, launched just a few months ago, shows off its sporty side in a Monte Carlo edition. An attractive style package, sporty interior and wide range of features make the new ŠKODA Fabia Monte Carlo one of the most exciting vehicles in its class.
The most important hallmarks of ŠKODA Fabia Monte Carlo are the black 16 or 17-inch alloy wheels, optional sports suspension, black design elements on the exterior, SunSet (tinted rear window and rear side windows) and tinted panoramic glass roof. The interior offers, among other things, a three-spoke sports leather steering wheel, black interior and sports seats with individual design. This means the new model meets the increasing customer demand for custom cars with a certain je ne sais quoi.
ŠKODA celebrates two anniversaries with fantastic special ‘Edition’ model
In addition, ŠKODA will be presenting the special ‘Edition’ models of the ŠKODA Fabia, Rapid, Octavia and Yeti series for the first time in Geneva. The occasion is the 2015 double-anniversary – at the end of December, the company will be celebrating its 120th birthday, and 110 years ago the first L&K automobiles were leaving the production halls in Mladá Boleslav.
The ‘Edition’ models’ exterior feature the series-standard attractive design elements, such as door mirrors in the body colour, bicolour alloy wheels, front fog lights and SunSet (tinted rear window and rear side windows). The ‘Edition’ interior offers fantastic features like the leather-finished three-spoke steering wheel, gear stick and hand brake, décor in brushed aluminium and textile floor mats bordered with grey stitching.

Mladá Boleslav/Geneva, March 2015 – The stage is set for the best ŠKODA of all time: two weeks after its world premiere in Prague, the new ŠKODA Superb rolls into the spotlight of the general public for the first time at the Geneva Motor Show (05 to 15 March 2015). The new ŠKODA flagship captivates with a modern, expressive and emotionally rich design, the best interior space in its segment and Volkswagen Group’s innovative MQB technology. The market launch will begin in mid-2015. ŠKODA is also celebrating the world premiere of the sportily styled ŠKODA Fabia Monte Carlo at Lake Geneva. The Czech manufacturer’s appearance will be rounded off with new ‘Edition’ special models for selected ŠKODA vehicles in recognition of this year’s 120-year anniversary of the company’s history and 110 years of ŠKODA car manufacturing. With the model campaign presented in Geneva, ŠKODA is underlining the brand’s dynamic vibrancy. In 2014, ŠKODA achieved record sales: with 1.04 million vehicles, the manufacturer delivered more than 1 million ŠKODAs to customers in a single calendar year for the first time.
“The new Superb is the beginning of a new era for ŠKODA,” said ŠKODA CEO Prof. Dr. h.c. Winfried Vahland. “In recent years, ŠKODA has established itself as an international high-volume manufacturer. The technology and design of our vehicles have reached a new level. The new ŠKODA Superb consistently continues this journey. It is the current highlight of ŠKODA’s largest model campaign and signifies the company’s reclaimed position,” said Prof. Dr. Vahland. “Its outstanding design and technical qualities and unbeatable interior space make our flagship the new benchmark in our competitive environment. With the new Superb, we will win over new customer groups for the brand. ŠKODA intends to continue to grow. The new ŠKODA Superb marks this growth ambition and points to the brand’s future,” said Winfried Vahland.
Since 2001, the ŠKODA Superb has been at the top of the ŠKODA model range. Since then, the car manufacturer has delivered more than 700,000 first- and secondgeneration Superbs to customers, making the ŠKODA Superb one of the most popular vehicles in its class. Customers value the attractive overall package: plenty of space, a timelessly elegant design, a high degree of comfort, modern, tried-and-tested technology, top safety, optimum functionality and excellent value for money. Vahland: “With the new Superb, ŠKODA widens its aspirations to also offer premium cars at the top of a respective segment whilst keeping to the brand’s fundamental philosophy. We intend to offer the best vehicles in our business sectors, to show the quality, tradition and future orientation of our brand and to increase ŠKODA’s appeal. We are proud of our vehicles and we wish to convey this feeling to our customers.”
With the third generation, the ŠKODA top model reaches a new dimension. “With the new ŠKODA Superb, we have developed a car that will wow our customers,” said Dr. Frank Welsch, ŠKODA Board Member for Technical Development. “With its expressive and emotionally rich design, even more space and comfort, innovative safety technology, top consumption values, sophisticated dynamics and top-class workmanship, the new ŠKODA Superb takes ŠKODA qualities to a new level,” said Dr. Welsch.
Top class in every respect
With its new, expressive design, the new ŠKODA demonstrates the brand’s emotional strength. With this, the new Superb brings the exciting design language of the ‘ŠKODA VisionC’ show car into production. The use of Volkswagen Group’s modular transverse matrix (MQB) complements its elegantly dynamic appearance. The new Superb is 28 mm longer and 47 mm wider than the previous model. In addition, the wheel base has been increased by 80 mm and the front vehicle overhang is 61 mm shorter than before. The result of the new dimensions is a saloon full of class and passion.
The ŠKODA Superb sets new standards in terms of space and comfort. In comparison to the previous model, the interior dimensions of the new Superb have increased once again, offering the best rear head- and legroom and the largest boot capacity in the automotive mid-class segment. At the same time, the saloon is cleverer than ever before: 29 ‘Simply Clever’ features make life easier for driver and passengers.
The new Superb is ŠKODA’s first model to offer Dynamic Chassis Control (DCC) including driving mode selection. There are completely new air conditioning units, including the new three-zone air conditioning available for the first time. An electric panoramic sliding glass roof is also available, as well as auxiliary heating, heated seats, a wireless heated front windscreen and an electric tailgate that can also be complemented with the virtual pedal. The new Park Assist, parking sensors and the new rear-view camera make driving in and out of parking spaces more convenient than ever before. A particular highlight in terms of convenience: the new ŠKODA Superb offers two umbrellas in the front doors.
The range of safety systems is more extensive than ever before. Multi-Collision Brake features as standard on the new Superb. Other systems available include Front Assist with City Emergency Brake, Adaptive Cruise Control (automatic distance control), Crew Protect Assist, Lane Assist, Traffic Jam Assist, Blind Spot Detect, Rear Traffic Alert, Emergency Assist, Driver Alert (fatigue detection), Speedlimiter, Travel Assist (traffic sign recognition), Hill-Hold Control and electronic tyre pressure monitor. For the first time, a masking function is available for the high beam (Smart Light Assist).
Connectivity attains a new quality: the new ŠKODA Superb has a new-generation infotainment system which automatically connects to most modern smartphones. SmartGate also enables accessing and using vehicle data via your smartphone. The high-speed internet connection turns the Superb into the first ŠKODA hotspot on wheels. With the new ŠKODA Media Command app and Wi-Fi hotspot, the infotainment system can be controlled for the first time from the rear using a tablet.
The new ŠKODA Superb sets impressive new benchmarks for consumption and emissions. Thanks to new engines (five petrol and three TDI common-rail diesels), a weight reduction of up to 75 kg and improved aerodynamics, the new model consumes and emits up to 30 per cent less fuel and CO2 than before. The ŠKODA Superb GreenLine is the most efficient representative, with only 3.7 l/100 km and 95 g CO2/km. Despite lower consumption values, the new powertrains have a power output that is up to 20 per cent higher. All-wheel drive is available for four engines.
Automotive sportster – the new ŠKODA Octavia RS 230
Pure sports emotions – that is the new ŠKODA Octavia RS 230. ŠKODA’s new special model will be celebrating its world premiere in Geneva. The sportster scores points with a racy design, sporty interior, modern technology and impressive power output. The ŠKODA Octavia RS 230 is the brand’s first car to feature electronically controlled front axle inter-wheel lock as standard – a feature that is particularly well suited to dynamic cornering. Market launch of the Octavia RS special edition will be in June 2015.
Propelled by a 169 kW or 230 PS two-litre petrol engine, ‘230’ in the new RS model’s name refers to its horsepower. ŠKODA has upgraded the two-litre TSI, used in the ŠKODA Octavia RS, by 7 kW or 10 PS – it has been ‘souped up by the factory’. The 169 kW (230 PS) 2.0 TSI engine combined with the manual six-speed gearbox accelerates the Octavia RS 230 saloon from 0 to 100 km/h in just 6.7 seconds. Top speed is achieved at 250 km/h. This makes the ŠKODA Octavia 230 RS the fastest production Octavia of all time. The 169 kW 2.0 TSI can also be combined with an automatic six-speed dual-clutch transmission.
The RS initials denote ŠKODA’s successes in motorsport as well as the high performance and passion represented by select production models. ŠKODA used the abbreviation RS for the first time as a model designation in 1974: the ŠKODA 180 RS and 200 RS racing cars are considered to be the original RS cars. The ŠKODA 130 RS is a racing car legend, having been one of the most successful racing sports cars of its time in the 1970s and 1980s.
Sporty appearance – the new ŠKODA Fabia Monte Carlo
The new ŠKODA Fabia Monte Carlo celebrates its world premiere in Geneva – as a hatchback and estate. The sporty Monte Carlo model of ŠKODA’s new small car, launched a few months ago, brings an additional helping of emotion into play. With its attractive visual appearance, rugged interior and comprehensive equipment, the new ŠKODA Fabia Monte Carlo is one of the most exciting vehicles in its class.
The most important features of the ŠKODA Fabia Monte Carlo are: black 16- or 17-inch alloy wheels, optional sports suspension, black exterior design elements, SunSet (tinted rear window and rear side windows) as well as a tinted panoramic glass roof. Amongst other features, the interior comes with a leather three-spoke sports steering wheel, black interior and uniquely designed sports seats. The new model therefore fulfils increasing customer requirements in terms of customisation for that personal touch.
The second-generation ŠKODA Fabia has been available in the Monte Carlo version as the first ŠKODA production model since 2011 (as a hatchback and, later, also as an estate). In 2014, the Czech manufacturer expanded its Monte Carlo range to the Citigo, Yeti and Rapid Spaceback models. The Monte Carlo design style is a tribute to the 114-year successful ŠKODA motorsport tradition.
ŠKODA celebrates significant birthdays – attractive ‘Edition’ special models
ŠKODA is also presenting the attractive ‘Edition’ special models for the ŠKODA Fabia, Rapid, Octavia and Yeti model ranges for the first time in Geneva. The special occasion is a double anniversary in 2015: at the end of December, the company will celebrate its 120th birthday. 110 years ago, the first L&K motorcar left the production hall in Mladá Boleslav.
The special edition models feature attractive exterior design elements such as colourcoded mirror housings, bi-colour alloy wheels, front fog lights and SunSet (tinted rear window and rear side windows) as standard.
Inside, the ‘Edition’ model offers appealing trim features such as the leather version of the three-spoke steering wheel, gear knob and handbrake lever, the newly designed instrument cluster, exclusive seat covers, brushed aluminium-look decorative trim and textile floor mats with grey stitching.
From the end of May: all ŠKODA models will feature EU6 engines; Stop-Start technology and brake energy recovery will be standard
With the launch of the new ŠKODA Superb, the Czech car manufacturer will equip its complete model range in Europe with modern and environmentally friendly EU6 engines. Thus, from calendar week 22/2015, all ŠKODA models – from the Citigo to the new Superb – will be available with Volkswagen Group’s latest petrol engines of the production series EA 211/EA 888 or with EA 288 TDI common-rail diesel engines including Stop-Start system and brake energy recovery.
The ŠKODA Yeti and Rapid model series will see the most important changes in terms of engine technology. The ŠKODA Rapid/Rapid Spaceback will be fitted with new EA211series 1.2 TSI petrol engines with more power: 66 or 81 kW (90 PS or 110 PS); a 92 kW (125 PS) 1.4 TSI petrol engine will also be available. The current entry-level three-cylinder 55 kW (75 PS) 1.2 MPI petrol engine will be discontinued. Completely new for the Rapid model series will also be the EA 288 diesel engines: the three-cylinder 66 kW (90 PS) 1.4 TDI and the four-cylinder 85 kW (116 PS) 1.6 TDI.
The ŠKODA Yeti will be available from the end of May with new EA 211-series 1.2 and 1.4 TSI petrol engines: 81 kW (110 PS) 1.2 TSI, 92 kW (125 PS) 1.4 TSI and 110 kW (150 PS) 1.4 TSI. The new EU6 diesel engines (EA 288) for the Yeti will be the 81 kW (110 PS) 2.0 TDI and the 110 kW (150 PS) 2.0 TDI. The 125 kW (170 PS) 2.0 TDI will be discontinued.
The entire ŠKODA Octavia engine range will also comply with EU6 regulations from the end of May. The Octavia EU6 petrol engine range from the 63 kW (86 PS) 1.2 TSI to the 169 kW (230 PS) 2.0 TSI for the new ŠKODA Octavia RS 230 special model. The more powerful version of the 1.2 TSI four-cylinder will produce 4 kW (5 PS) more than the current version (81 kW instead of 77 kW) and the maximum power output of the 1.4 TSI engine increases from 103 kW to 110 kW. The EU diesel engine offering includes the 1.6 TDI with 66 and 81 kW (90 and 110 PS) as well as the 2.0 TDI with 110 and 135 kW (150 and 184 PS).
The EU6 engines in the ŠKODA Citigo come with an unchanged power output: the city car is available with two 1.0 three-cylinder petrol engines (EA 211) with either 44 kW (60 PS) or 55 kW (75 PS). The CNG model Citigo G-TEC is also available.
The new ŠKODA Fabia, launched at the end of 2014, is only available with newly developed EU6 engines. On offer are four petrol engines (EA 211-series three- and fourcylinder powertrains) and three new three-cylinder diesel EA 288-series engines.
ŠKODA continues to accelerate
ŠKODA intends to grow further still with the largest model campaign in the company’s almost 120-year history. The aim for the coming years is to deliver at least 1.5 million vehicles each year. To achieve this, the manufacturer will present a new vehicle, on average, every six months. Alongside Europe, the Chinese market plays a vital part for the company’s growth ambitions. China has been the largest single market for ŠKODA since 2010, representing around 27 per cent of the brand’s deliveries in 2014.
The record sales figures of 2014 confirm ŠKODA’s market success. Last year, ŠKODA sold more than 1 million vehicles worldwide in one calendar year for the first time. Deliveries increased by 12.7 per cent to 1,037,200 vehicles (2013: 920,800 deliveries). In China, the manufacturer grew by 24.0 per cent, in Western Europe by 11.8 per cent and in Central Europe by 18.5 per cent. The global ŠKODA market share increased to 1.4 per cent (2013: 1.3 per cent).
“The acceptance of our models and brand is higher than ever before. We have been able to increase our market share in almost all regions,” said Werner Eichhorn, Board Member for Sales and Marketing. The trendsetting ‘ŠKODA VisionC’ design study marked the beginning of last year’s product fireworks in March. In the course of the rest of the year, the Octavia G-TEC, Octavia Scout and three Monte Carlo special models for the Citigo, Yeti and Rapid Spaceback followed. The new ŠKODA Fabia provided the conclusion in November.
In 2015, ŠKODA is continuing smoothly at high speed. As early as in the middle of January, the new ŠKODA Fabia made its debut in the first markets. The new ŠKODA Superb will be introduced in June, as will the Fabia Monte Carlo. Other new ŠKODA models for the second half of the year and for 2016 are in the pipeline.
At the beginning of 2015, the Czech manufacturer has been on good form. In January, ŠKODA delivered 87,000 vehicles to customers worldwide – this is an increase of 7.5 per cent compared to January 2014.

New kid on the block: Customer rally scene awaits the new ŠKODA Fabia R 5 excitedly
› ŠKODA Motorsport continues its customer racing programme
› Customers already showing great interest in the new Fabia R 5 rally car
› Michal Hrabánek: “Fabia R 5 will follow on from the success of the Fabia Super 2000”
› Customers receive not only an ultra-modern rally car, but also support from the ŠKODA Motorsport team
Mladá Boleslav, 13 March 2015 – Following its success with the Fabia Super 2000, the ŠKODA Motorsport customer racing programme is now set to continue with the new Fabia R 5. The rally world is already showing huge interest in the Czech automobile manufacturer’s new rally car, and there is already a long waiting list for the high-tech, four-wheel drive Fabia R 5 with its new turbo engine.
“The Fabia Super 2000 has been an important figurehead for our brand in recent years. The success of this car is emphatic proof of the technical expertise and passion that the entire ŠKODA team shows for motorsport. We will follow on from this with the R 5,” said ŠKODA Motorsport Director Michal Hrabánek. “And it would appear that a lot of private motorsport teams are also confident of this. We already have a long list of potential customers.”
The Fabia Super 2000 has shown that money is well invested in a ŠKODA rally car. Over 60 of the car, which is now the most successful model in the 114-year success story of ŠKODA Motorsport, were sold in six years as part of the customer racing programme, to customers ranging from Australia to Paraguay. Almost 50 international and national titles have been won with the Fabia Super 2000. A full five of these were claimed by experienced rally driver Raimund Baumschlager in his native Austria. As with the Fabia Super 2000, Baumschlager is now a member of the ŠKODA team developing and testing the new Fabia R 5.
“The Fabia Super 2000 has been the best car in its class, and I believe that the Fabia R 5 will be the same in the future,” said Baumschlager. “I have tested it on snow, asphalt and gravel – and it has made an excellent impression on every surface.”
As well as a competitive car, customers purchasing the brand-new Fabia R 5 also receive technical support from the ŠKODA Motorsport team. “This way, both sides can share their know-how and benefit from each other in the long-term,” said Hrabánek. The head of motorsport at ŠKODA is assuming that the Fabia R 5, which was developed based on the production model of the Fabia, will be homologated by the International Automobile Federation FIA. Once it has been successfully approved, the process of delivering the cars to customers will begin.
They will receive a spectacular racing car with four-wheel drive, powered by a 1.6-litre turbo engine in accordance with FIA regulations. Besides modifications to the design of the chassis, this is the largest technical change compared to the two-litre induction engine in the Fabia Super 2000. The new car also features a five-speed sequential gearbox and McPherson struts. The weight is at least 1,230 kilograms, as specified in the regulations. Baumschlager: “The Fabia R 5 is even more accurate to drive, and its turbo engine means gives you a mighty amount of torque.”

ŠKODA expands DQ 200-gearbox production at Vrchlabí
› Growth: Production capacity increases to up to 2000 DSG gearboxes per day
› Investment: Approximately 25 million euros into expansion; up to 200 new jobs
› Success: 640,000 DQ-200 gearboxes manufactured at Vrchlabí
› Future from Tradition: ŠKODA’s 116 years of powertrain expertis
Mladá Boleslav/Vrchlabí, 23 March 2015 – ŠKODA continues to develop their production of powertrains. At the ŠKODA plant in Vrchlabí, the manufacturer will be increasing the production capacity for the DQ 200 dual-clutch transmission from 1500 to 2000 gearboxes per day over the next twelve months. The carmaker will be investing around 25 million euros into the expansion in addition to creating up to 200 new jobs.
The modern DQ 200 direct-shift gearbox has been running off the Vrchlabí production lines since October 2012, and is installed in ŠKODA vehicles as well as models from other manufacturers within the Volkswagen Group. In partnership with the Group, ŠKODA has invested around 210 million euros to date into the DSG production at the foot of the Giant Mountains. Since 2012, around 640,000 DQ 200 transmissions have been produced at the site, which currently employs around 1000 people.
Just last year, daily production capacities at the Vrchlabí site were increased from 1000 to 1500 DSG gearboxes per day. “Once again increasing the capacity to 2000 gearboxes marks a significant milestone for the plant,” says ŠKODA Production Director Michael Oeljeklaus. “Over recent years, we have transformed the site into a state-of-the-art facility, which has become an important pillar of ŠKODA’s global production. Manufacturing an additional 500 gearboxes per day emphasises the productivity and efficiency of the site.”
ŠKODA HR Director adds: “Vrchlabí is a cornerstone in ŠKODA’s growth strategy. In close dialogue with our social partners, the KOVO VR trade union, we have effectively established the site with the production of the DSG gearbox, and given the plant excellent prospects for the future. Through their hard work, the local production team strengthens ŠKODA’s excellent reputation in powertrain manufacture. We are sending out a strong signal for growth and job security in the region once again. These planned measures show that it was right to return the DSG production to Vrchlabí,” Wojnar concludes.
ŠKODA is one of the largest and most important employers in the Vrchlabí region. This year the company was awarded 'Česká inovace' for complexity of change from car assembly to gearbox production and their social contribution to the development of the region. The planned capacity expansion at Vrchlabí underlines the carmaker’s great importance in the industry and the associated contribution to employment in the Czech home market. Around 25,000 people are employed at ŠKODA in the Czech Republic, the majority of whom work in production. An additional 150,000 people work at ŠKODA suppliers. The manufacturer operates three locations in the Czech Republic: the main plant in Mladá Boleslav, and the plants in Kvasiny and Vrchlabí.
ŠKODA’s Vrchlabí plant was awarded the contract for DQ 200 production in 2011, commencing in second half of 2012. In association with the Volkswagen Group, ŠKODA has invested around 27 million euros into new buildings and modernising the existing facilities. 180 million euros went into the technical equipment and other measures such as the training centre for transmission production, logistics, the measuring centre, laboratories and centre of quality analysis. To date, around 210 million euros have been invested in DQ 200 production at Vrchlabí. The seven-speed direct shift gearbox DQ 200 is one of the most innovative automatic transmissions in the automotive industry.
Manufacturing the DQ 200 demonstrates the Czech manufacturer’s expertise in powertrain production. In addition to producing transmissions at Vrchlabí, the Mladá Boleslav site manufactures the MQ 200 and MQ/SQ 100 gearboxes. Engine manufacturer is another major focus for the company. Three- and four- cylinder engines from the EA 211 series and powertrains from the EA 111 series are built in Mladá Boleslav. ŠKODA’s new Engine Centre opened in Mladá Boleslav in September, 2014. In this project alone, ŠKODA invested around 45 million euros in partnership with the Volkswagen Group.
ŠKODA has a 116-year tradition in manufacturing engines and powertrains. In 1899 the company’s founding fathers Laurin und Klement first equipped one of their bicycles with an axillary motor. The Motocyclette was powered by a one-cylinder engine with either 1.25 or 1.75 horsepower.
