ŠKODA: 220,400 Deliveries in the First Quarter of 2013

4/11/2013

83,800 ŠKODA vehicles delivered to customers in March. Year of the ŠKODA Model Campaign: Eight new or revised models. Model Changeover: New ŠKODA Octavia launched in the first markets. ŠKODA’s market share in Western Europe grows to almost 3.1%. ŠKODA delivered 83,800 vehicles worldwide in March, 2013; 12% down on March 2012 (95,200). From January to March, 2013, the number of deliveries totalled 220,400 (2012 first quarter: 242,700) – down 9.2%. ŠKODA sales were influenced, in the first quarter, mainly due to the model changeover and the start of production of the ŠKODA Octavia. The weak state in most European automobile markets is still being felt.

“The developments in the first quarter of 2013 correspond to our expectations in light of the ŠKODA Octavia model changeover”, explains ŠKODA CEO Prof. Dr. h. c. Winfried Vahland. The production ramp-up phase and the launch of the most important ŠKODA series are running successfully. He continues, “We remain basically confident about the year as a whole in spite of the fairly difficult market conditions”. Alongside the hatchback, three other versions of the Octavia will have been launched by summer: the Combi, Combi 4x4 and the Octavia RS. Additionally, four new or completely redesigned models are to be launched in the second half of the year.

Despite an overall decline in the Western European market, ŠKODA outperformed the market as a whole, both in March and in the first quarter of 2013. The brand delivered approximately 38,300 vehicles in March (March 2012: 41,500; -7.7%), in the first quarter with 90,400 vehicles (2012: 98,500; -8.3%). As of 31 March, the market share in Western Europe grew to almost 3.1%. In Germany, ŠKODA’s second largest market globally, ŠKODA is expanding its position as the largest importer despite decline of deliveries by 9.8% with 13,100 deliveries in March (March 2012: 14,500). In March, the number of deliveries in the UK increased by 21.4% to over 10,000 cars (March 2012: 8,300). The brand is gaining momentum in Denmark where sales were up by 155.4%, in March, to more than 1,200 vehicles.

In Eastern Europe, ŠKODA sold more than 10,300 cars in March (March 2012: 11,600; -11.3 %). The number of deliveries totalled around 25,200 in the first quarter (January to March 2012: 28,300; -10.9 %). In Russia, ŠKODA delivered 7,700 vehicles in March (March 2012: 8,100; -5.4 %). Our Russian customers received over 18,600 vehicles between January and March (2012 first quarter: 19,200; -2.9 %).

In Central Europe, ŠKODA outperformed the generally weak market in March. The manufacturer delivered 10,400 vehicles to customers (March 2012: 11,500; -9.4 %). In March, the market share grew to 18.04% (March 2012: 17.07 %). In the first quarter of 2013, ŠKODA’s sales in Central Europe stood at 28,800 units; down by 11.9% or 32,700 units on the same period last year. ŠKODA made 4,600 deliveries in the Czech Republic in March (March 2012: 5,300; -12.6 %). Between January and March, the brand sold 12,600 cars in their home market (2012: 14,200; -11.5 %), the market share grew after the first three months to 33.4 % (2012: 32.5 %).

In China, ŠKODA’s largest individual market, sales in March dropped by 13.7% to 18,400 units (March 2012: 21,300). Between January and March, ŠKODA sold approximately 57,700 cars to Chinese customers; down on the same period last year by 2.5 % (January to March 2012: 59,200).

ŠKODA Classics Delight Visitors at the Techno-Classica
4/15/2013

Only three ever made: ŠKODA MUZEUM displays the ŠKODA 200 RS. Other highlights: Rapids from different eras of the brand. ŠKODA is one of the world’s oldest car producers.
Great feedback from the ŠKODA appearance at the 25th Techno-Classica in Essen (10th -14th April). There were two highlights of ŠKODA’s motorsport history to be admired: the rare ŠKODA 200 RS racing car and the ŠKODA 130 RS. At the world’s largest vintage car fair, the Czech car manufacturer also presented ŠKODA Rapid models from various eras of the brand’s history.

The visitors were very enthusiastic about the ŠKODA classics which had been brought from the ŠKODA MUZEUM’s collection in Mladá Boleslav. In Essen, ŠKODA presented two outstanding examples of its history in motorsports spanning almost 112 years. TheŠKODA 200 RS racing car is an absolute rarity. In total, only three vehicles of this type were ever built. The 200 RS was based on the then Coupé 110 R; under the bonnet, you will find a two-litre, four-cylinder engine with an output of 163 hp with a five-speed manual transmission providing the power transfer to the rear wheels. The vehicle weighs a mere 850 kg and can achieve a top speed of 250 km/h. It was at its first appearance in 1975 that the ŠKODA 200 RS triumphed at the Rally Šumava. Also, the car which won in its category at the Monte Carlo Rally – the ŠKODA 130 RS – drew the attention of vintage and motorsport fans.

“Our presentation in Essen was a huge success”, says Eva Ticová, director of the ŠKODA MUZEUM restoration workshop. She continues, “Racing cars like the ŠKODA 200 RS are not something you see every day. And the historical Rapid vehicle gallery is an impressive display of our brand’s great tradition in the lower mid-class segment”.

In the 1930s and 40s, and also later in the 1980s, there were various compact-class models under the name ‘ŠKODA Rapid’. At the Techno-Classica, the Czechs presented, amongst others, the oldest bearer of that name: a ŠKODA 420 Rapid from 1934, of which only 480 were ever produced. Three other gems from the ŠKODA Museum did not fail to attract the visitors’ attention: The ŠKODA Rapid (Type 914) sporting elegant two-tone paintwork, a ŠKODA Rapid Sport (Type 421) from 1937 and the streamlinedŠKODA Rapid OHV (Type 922) from 1940. Only 110 examples of the Rapid OHV (the abbreviation referring to the engine’s overhead valves) were ever produced between 1938 and 1941. Also seen in Essen: a ŠKODA Rapid Motorway (1939) as well as two examples of the coupé ŠKODA Rapid 135, manufactured between 1987 and 1990.

Overall, the ŠKODA appearance at the Techno-Classica showed once again the great tradition of the Czech brand. ŠKODA is one of the oldest vehicle production companies in the world. The headquarters in Mladá Boleslav has seen the production of vehicles since 1895 – firstly of bicycles and motorbikes, and then also of automobiles since 1905.

Model offensive continues: ŠKODA presents the fundamentally revised Superb

4/19/2013

World premiere of the ŠKODA flagship model at Volkswagen Group Night in Shanghai. ŠKODA Superb with attractive elements of the new ŠKODA design, a fresh interior, lower fuel consumption and an umbrella inside the door. ŠKODA model offensive: eight new or revised ŠKODA vehicles in 2013. ŠKODA boldly continues its model offensive in 2013. The comprehensively upgraded ŠKODA Superb will be celebrating its world premiere at the Volkswagen Group Night, the night before the Shanghai Auto Show opens. In all, ŠKODA will be launching eight new or revised models in 2013. By 2018, the company intends to increase its worldwide sales to at least 1.5 million units a year. ŠKODA achieved a new sales record in 2012 (its eighth in a row), delivering 939,200 vehicles.

“2013 will be all about the model offensive,” says ŠKODA CEO Winfried Vahland. “We have never released eight ŠKODA models in one year. We will be launching the next stage of our model offensive a few weeks after the launch of the new ŠKODA Octavia with the fundamentally revised Superb.”

The ŠKODA flagship stands out with its new, striking design, lots of room, fresh interior, lower fuel consumption and new, innovative features. “This comprehensive upgrade has made our top-of-the-line model even more attractive. The ŠKODA Superb offers comfort beyond the standard in the middle segment. This means lots of space, outstanding functionality, high comfort, high level of safety, unbeatable value and timeless elegance. We always mean to offer our customers a little bit extra car. With the revised Superb and of course the new Octavia, the new Rapid and our entire attractive range of cars, we are confident that we will be continuing our brand's positive growth this year as well,” claims the ŠKODA CEO.

ŠKODA Superb: best-selling top model with a tradition
The carmaker has given its best-selling model, the Superb, a striking exterior. Incorporating attractive elements of the new ŠKODA design the Superb and Superb Combi set clear signals: with a superior front end, attractive rear end, clear shapes, and precise lines – prestigious and elegant. The interior has also been improved – with new steering wheels and seat covers, new decorative elements and colour combinations. Not to mention new engine/transmission combinations and significant improvements in fuel consumption and emissions. Innovative technical features such as the new Automatic Parking Assistant or easier operation of the Superb sedan's clever dual-use Twindoor hatchback make the flagship of the ŠKODA models even more attractive.

At the same time, the new Superb confirms once again the outstanding attributes that have been making the model so successful for the last twelve years: lots of room for passengers and cargo, top-of-the-line safety equipment, clever features, and high levels of functionality and efficiency. This includes the umbrella inside the door, something otherwise the preserve of models in the absolute luxury segment.
The revised Superb is also yet more fuel efficient than before. The engine range’s fuel consumption and emissions have been decreased by up to 19 per cent thanks to a start-stop system and regenerative braking. As the ŠKODA Superb GreenLine, the model features CO2 emissions of only 109 g/km, which corresponds to a fuel consumption of 4.2 litres of diesel fuel per 100 km.

The ŠKODA Superb stands for Czech quality on the world markets. In launching the first Superb generation in 2001, the carmaker continued the tradition of large, prestigious ŠKODA limousines that started in the 1930s. From 1934 to 1949, it mass-produced a luxury passenger car called the Superb in Mladá Boleslav. A Superb has once again been the crown of ŠKODA models since 2001. The second generation was launched in 2008, and the Superb has been available as an estate since 2009. To date ŠKODA has sold around 557,000 units of its top-selling model worldwide, delivering approximately 109,100 Superbs in 2012, around 40 per cent of which to customers in China.

Largest model offensive in company history
The Superb is the latest innovation in the largest model offensive in the company's
almost 117-year history. The carmaker wants to redesign its entire range of cars and expand into additional segments by 2015. A new or revised model with the winged arrow logo will be launched every six months on average until 2015.

The new ŠKODA Citigo subcompact was the model offensive's first launch at the end of 2011. The new ŠKODA Rapid compact limousine has been selling on the European markets since fall of 2012. ŠKODA increases the number of its models from five to seven with the Citigo and Rapid. Both cars are selling very well on the market. The Citigo, which is sold in Europe, won over around 30,000 customers in its first sales year, 2012. The Rapid has also been very well received and has already won a number of national and international awards. Both new models were also immediately awarded the best rating of five stars in the Euro NCAP crash test.

In addition, the new ŠKODA Octavia was launched on the European markets in early January of this year. The responses from customers and the media have been very positive so far. “The Octavia is the heart of the brand,” says Winfried Vahland. The best-selling ŠKODA model wins people over with its unrivalled capacity, new design, high level of functionality, innovative safety and comfort systems, economical fuel consumption, numerous 'Simply Clever' ideas and a price-value ratio that is typical of the ŠKODA brand.

Focus on internationalisation
The model offensive is the heart of ŠKODA's 2018 growth strategy. By 2018 ŠKODA intends to increase its sales to at least 1.5 million units a year. To achieve this goal, the carmaker is not just building on its home market of Europe, but is also investing heavily in the growth markets of China, Russia and India. ŠKODA has been continuously improving its position in these countries in the past few years.

China is now ŠKODA strongest single market, accounting for around one fourth of all of the brand's sales. The company expects further growth in the next few years. Sales of the locally built Chinese Rapid will begin in April 2013. The Superb Combi and Yeti will also be available in China, both as import vehicles. In 2014 the new Octavia will follow as a locally produced model for China.

GreenFuture: Strategy for more sustainability
As part of its growth strategy, the company is also increasing its efforts in the area of sustainability. ŠKODA calls its new sustainability strategy GreenFuture. The aim is for all of its cars to be more fuel-efficient and to improve water and energy economy in its manufacturing plants and retail. GreenProduct deals with ŠKODA’s efforts to lower the average CO2 emissions of all vehicle models. The GreenFactory pillar is aimed at achieving a 25 per cent reduction in energy and water consumption and the amount of waste and emissions generated per vehicle in the manufacturing process by 2018. The third pillar of ŠKODA’s GreenFuture strategy is GreenRetail, which focuses on sustainability in dealerships and repair workshops.

ŠKODA Rapid SPORT concept car to celebrate its world premiere at Wörthersee

› ŠKODA Rapid SPORT to show off the possibilities inherent in the Rapid
› A compact power package expressing dynamism and sportiness
› 32nd edition of the legendary Volkswagen meeting to take place May 8-12, 2013

Mladá Boleslav/Reifnitz, May 6, 2013 – At this year’s GTI Meeting at Wörthersee, the concept car ŠKODA Rapid SPORT will celebrate its world premiere. With the particularly sporty version of its compact sedan ŠKODA Rapid, the Czech car manufacturer will once again demonstrate the versatility of its model range. The 32nd edition of the legendary Volkswagen tuning event will take place from May 8 to May 12, 2013.

Every year, the long Ascension Day weekend sees up to 200,000 tuning fans meeting in the Austrian town of Reifnitz for the Volkswagen event. This year, ŠKODA will present them with ŠKODA Rapid SPORT as a highlight a particularly racy study of its compact sedan ŠKODA Rapid.

“The GTI Meeting is a Mecca for all tuning and motorsports fans,” says ŠKODA’s chairman of the board, Prof. Dr. h.c. Winfried Vahland. “With the ŠKODA Rapid SPORT, we will put a decidedly dynamic and emotional version of our new compact sedan Rapid on display for the first time. This way, we once again demonstrate the competence of our team with regard to sporty vehicles and motorsports,” adds Werner Eichhorn, ŠKODA board member for sales and marketing.

The ŠKODA Rapid SPORT will show off the power of the Skoda design as well as the Rapid’s inherent possibilities. The result is a vehicle full of dynamism and sportiness. The vehicle is painted in the metallic colors ‘Corrida Red’ and ‘Steel Gray’. The sports car sits on massive 19” alloy wheels. The front of the vehicle impresses with spoilers and a powerful air intake in the skirt. Generously dimensioned fenders and massive rocker panels underscore the appearance of the vehicle.

Other sporty accents are the rear with a voluminous bumper and two integrated exhaust tailpipes. The rear lights in the ‘C’-shaped design typical for the brand show a contrasting color. A circumferential carbon frame completes the bottom section. The sporty layout continues in the interior of the car, for example with a sport-type steering wheel, Recaro seats and illuminated door sills.
Since the fall of 2012, the ŠKODA Rapid has been sold in the European markets as the ŠKODA’s seventh model series. The compact sedan complements the company’s model.

range between the ŠKODA Fabia and the new ŠKODA Octavia. With compact dimensions (4.48 meters long, 1.70 meters wide), the vehicle convinces through outstanding spaciousness and a lot of room for five passengers and their luggage. They are supplemented by numerous ‘simply clever’ solutions, an excellent price/value ratio and an extensive safety package. Equally attractive is the timeless design. Since its market launch, the Rapid has won numerous awards. Regarding its safety concept, the vehicle received the best possible rating of five stars in the Euro-NCAP crash test.

› Power and class: the concept car ŠKODA Rapid SPORT celebrates its world premiere
› A class of its own: the new ŠKODA Octavia Combi with a sports package
› Pure dynamism: ŠKODA Citigo Motorsport and Fabia RS Motorsport UK Edition
› The look of a winner: the successful rally racecar ŠKODA Fabia S2000
› 32nd edition of the legendary Volkswagen meeting to take place May 8-11, 2013

Mladá Boleslav/Reifnitz, May 8, 2013 – At this year’s GTI Meeting at Wörthersee, ŠKODA will present a total of five sports car models. The highlight will be the world premiere of the concept car ŠKODA Rapid SPORT. Moreover, the Czech manufacturer will show the new ŠKODA Octavia Combi with a sports package, the ŠKODA Citigo Motorsport and the ŠKODA Fabia RS Motorsport. Also on display will be the successful rally racer ŠKODA Fabia S2000.
The 32nd edition of the legendary Volkswagen tuning event will take place from May 8 to May 11, 2013. Every year, the long Ascension Day weekend sees 200,000 tuning fans meeting in the Austrian town of Reifnitz for the Volkswagen gathering. This year, ŠKODA will present them with a total of five sports cars – more than ever before.

“As a brand with an almost 112 year tradition in motorsports, it is a matter of honor for us to participate in this fascinating tuning event and to present the fans our brand’s sports cars,” says ŠKODA’s chairman of the board, Prof. Dr. h.c. Winfried Vahland. “With the ŠKODA Rapid SPORT, we will put a particularly sporty and emotional version of our new compact sedan Rapid on display for the first time,” adds the ŠKODA boss.

The ŠKODA Rapid SPORT will show off the power of the Skoda design as well as the Rapid’s inherent possibilities. A circumferential carbon frame completes the bottom section. The sporty layout continues in the interior of the car, for example with a sport-type steering wheel, Recaro seats and illuminated door sills.

Just in time for the market launch of the new ŠKODA Octavia Combi, the Czech manufacturer shows off the ŠKODA Octavia Combi with a sports package at Wörthersee. The equipment includes a front grille in a shiny black color as well as a red/black front spoiler. The covers of the outside mirrors and the roof girders are painted in shiny black, the rear diffuser in red and black. The sports version of the Octavia station wagon sits on the 18” wheels named ‘Turini’ in matt black. The sporty appearance of the interior is emphasized by black sports seats with red threads and aluminum pedals.

Pure dynamism is also on display in the ŠKODA Citigo Motorsport: the white color of the car’s body is contrasted effectively by black lateral stripes on the hood and on the tinted panoramic roof. A special sports kit includes front and roof spoilers as well as a rear diffuser, each painted in ‘Deep Black’. Likewise, the rear of the two side mirrors is painted in ‘Deep Black’. The appearance of the vehicle’s front is marked by a decorative black stripe on the lower bumper. The ŠKODA Citigo Motorsport sits on 16” alloy wheels, available alternatively in white or in a combination of black metallic/silver. The vehicle’s sides show a sweeping, gray stripe with the ŠKODA Motorsports logo. The side windows in the rear bear the ŠKODA Motorsports lettering. The interior also expresses the sporty focus of the vehicle at first sight.

The ŠKODA Fabia RS Motorsport – UK Edition is a compact power package. The vehicle is painted in ‘Candy White’, excitingly contrasted with black elements: both the roof and the front grille are black. The headlights are highlighted in black; the fog lights have a black frame. The roof line ends with a black spoiler. Tinted windows emphasize the sporty character, as does the glued-on racing stripe with the ŠKODA Motorsports logo at the lower door line. The vehicle sits on 17” alloy wheels in the design ‘Gigaro’, available alternatively in white or metallic black. The rear is dominated by a center exhaust tailpipe. In the interior, decorative door sills display the ŠKODA Motorsports lettering. Like the leather gear shifter, the 3-spoke leather steering wheel has white threads.

The rally racecar ŠKODA Fabia S2000 is a particularly attractive eye-catcher in Reifnitz. The vehicle is among the most successful cars in the international rally sport. The performance and reliance of the Fabia S2000 laid the basis for numerous ŠKODA racing victories. For example, thanks to the Fabia S2000, the 2012 season was among the most successful ones in the history of ŠKODA Motorsports. During the current season, the Fabia S2000 continues to show off its strengths with victories in both the European Rally Championship as well as in the world championship category WRC-2.
