ŠKODA CITIGO with new front section and upgraded interior

› New design: bonnet, radiator grille, bumpers and fog lights
› Optional cornering function for fog lights
› Modified instrument cluster design, new multifunction leather steering wheel
› Additional ‘Simply Clever’ features such as an umbrella under the passenger seat
› Two three-cylinder petrol engines with 44 kW (60 PS) and 55 kW (75 PS)
› Natural gas variant with 50 kW (68 PS) and CO2 emissions of 82 g/kilometre
› Premiere at Geneva International Motor Show

Mladá Boleslav, 9 February 2017 – From spring 2017, the ŠKODA CITIGO is being presented with comprehensive upgrades to the exterior design and some revisions in the interior. Bonnet, radiator grille, bumpers and fog lights with optional cornering function come in a new design. The specially designed 15-inch alloy wheels, optional for the Style trim level, complete the new look. ŠKODA’s city car impresses with its generous amount of space, excellent layout, high level of safety, great handling, efficient drivetrain variants and numerous ‘Simply Clever’ features. Value for money – typical of the brand – rounds off the city runabout’s offering. The ŠKODA CITIGO will celebrate its premiere at the Geneva International Motor Show (7-19 March 2017).

With the revisions, the ŠKODA CITIGO has grown by 34 mm to a length of 3,597 mm. The width of the five-door version remains at 1,645 mm and the height at 1,478 mm. Thanks to its generous 2,420-mm wheelbase, ŠKODA engineers were able to create an interior which also offers sufficient space for the rear passengers. The ŠKODA CITIGO proves: even a city car can have a spacious interior. The 251 litres of boot capacity, which increase to 951 l when the rear seats are folded down, rank amongst the best competitor values.

The ŠKODA CITIGO is the perfect vehicle for urban mobility: compact yet spacious, economical and nimble at the same time, attractive, safe and equipped with many practical ‘Simply Clever’ features.
The ŠKODA CITIGO is available in the Easy, Active, Ambition and Style trim levels. You can also opt for one of two special editions – the ŠKODA CITIGO Monte Carlo and ŠKODA CITIGO Fun – which are characterised by numerous additional features.

A brand-typical design with a new front section

The ŠKODA CITIGO’s front section has been fundamentally revised: a new bonnet, a redesigned radiator grille in typical ŠKODA design, modified bumpers and updated fog lights create a fresh, young look. The tinted tail lights are now also available for the Ambition trim line. A colour package with roof and wing mirrors offset in white or black is available for the Style and Ambition trim levels.

The front headlights are fitted with LED daytime running lights and the fog lights come with an optional cornering function, which lights up the area the vehicle is turning into on junctions with poor visibility. To this end, the cornering function automatically switches on the left or right fog light when turning at speeds of up to 40 km/h.
New 15-inch alloy wheels in silver and anthracite for the Style trim level and the Kiwi Green body colour, which is a new addition to the programme, complete the options for creating an individual exterior design.

Small vehicle – big on safety One of the many active safety features ensuring a high level of safety is the automatic braking function City Safe Drive. The optional Emergency Brake helps to prevent collisions in urban traffic. The assistance system is automatically activated at speeds between 5 and 30 km/h. A laser sensor, which is integrated in the windscreen, scans a 10-metre area in front of the vehicle. In the event of an impending collision – if the driver does not react – the braking system is primed and the hydraulic Brake Assist function becomes more sensitive. If necessary, the system initiates a full application of the brakes to bring the car to a standstill or – if the driver is not braking hard enough – supports the driver by providing full braking force. Depending on the speed and the individual situation, City Safe Drive can thereby prevent a collision or at least considerably reduce the accident’s severity.

ŠKODA CITIGO equipment

The ŠKODA CITIGO’s interior wows with a clean and clearly arranged design and layout of the instruments as well as with a two-colour dashboard in the higher trim levels. After the upgrade, the ŠKODA CITIGO’s interior is even more refined and more functional. The instrument cluster with speed indicator, rev counter and fuel gauge comes in a new design and is available in two different versions. The seats with integrated headrests provide good lateral support, radio and mobile phone can be operated on the optional multifunction leather steering wheel without the driver having to remove their hands. Automatic climate control ensures pleasant temperatures at all times. A high-resolution Maxi-DOT display as well as light and rain sensors are also optional.

The new-generation Blues and Swing radio models offer many connectivity options – ranging from an aux-in socket to an SD card slot and a USB socket. A colour display, six speakers and a Bluetooth connection are added to the Swing variant. Using this, the system can be connected to the driver’s smartphone, which is stored in a special smartphone holder on the dashboard. The apps running on the iOS and Android smartphone operating systems provide navigation, a driving data display, hands-free phone calls and economical driving as well as playing music and the radio.
Many practical interior features underline the city runabout’s functionality. Storage compartments in the centre console and glove compartment, bottle holders (up to 1 litre) and cup holders are as practical as the multimedia cradle in the centre console. Nets in the boot and practical storage nets on the front seats offer a variety of options to keep various small items safe.

Move&Fun: The app for information and entertainment The Move&Fun app offers information and entertainment. The application is available for smartphones with iOS and Android operating systems. First, the smartphone is clicked into to the smartphone holder and a Bluetooth connection is established with the system. Contacts and playlists stored on the smartphone can now be accessed via the vehicle’s controls. The in-car computer provides information on fuel consumption and other useful information. The Move&Fun app’s DriveGreen function supports the driver in optimising their driving style. In addition, the app has a navigation function.

Clever features The numerous ‘Simply Clever’ features include an umbrella under the passenger seat, a variety of storage compartments, cup and smartphone holders, a bag hook on the glove compartment and practical boot nets.

Engine portfolio

Three modern three-cylinder engines are available for the ŠKODA CITIGO – two petrol variants and one natural gas variant. The front-, transverse-mounted engines with a 1.0-litre capacity drive the front wheels. Despite their small capacity, the engines distinguish themselves through high torque with low noise levels.

The entry-level engine is the 1.0 MPI with 44 kW (60 PS) and 95 Nm of torque at 3,000 rpm. From a standing start, it accelerates the ŠKODA CITIGO to 100 km/h in 14.4 seconds, reaches a top speed of 162 km/h and consumes 4.1 litres per 100 kilometres on average.

With the 55 kW (75 PS) 1.0 MPI, maximum torque of 95 Nm is available at 3,000 rpm. The additional power is due to the modified engine control of the three-cylinder model. It accelerates to 100 km/h in 13.5 seconds, reaches a top speed of 173 km/h and consumes 4.1 litres per 100 kilometres on average.

You can also opt for the 1.0 G-TEC CNG variant. The three-cylinder engine, optimised for natural gas operation, produces a power output of 50 kW (68 PS). From a standing start, this ŠKODA CITIGO variant takes 16.3 seconds to reach 100 km/h, has a top speed of 165 km/h and consumes just 4.5 m3 of natural gas per 100 kilometres. CO2 emissions are just 82 g per kilometre.

All values apply to the variant with 5-speed manual gearbox, with start-stop system and brake energy recovery.

ŠKODA produces 1.5 millionth DQ 200 dual-clutch transmission at Vrchlabí plant

› Direct Shift Gearboxes (DSG) from Vrchlabí used in numerous ŠKODA models and other vehicles of the Volkswagen Group
› Vrchlabí plant produces more than 500,000 DQ 200 transmissions per year
› High-tech factory one of largest employers in Hradec Králové region

Mladá Boleslav, 9 February 2017 – The 1.5 millionth direct shift gearbox has run off the production line at ŠKODA’s Vrchlabí plant since the start of production in 2012. The modern DQ 200 transmission is used in numerous ŠKODA models as well as other Volkswagen-Group vehicles. It enables quick gear changes within just milliseconds and provides superior shifting comfort.

ŠKODA produces a total of 28 variants of the DQ 200 transmission at the Vrchlabí plant. Each transmission comprises 352 individual components. “Over the past few years, we have consistently developed the plant into a high-tech location and a pillar of ŠKODA production. Producing more than one and a half million transmissions since the year 2012 impressively demonstrates the performance of ŠKODA’s Vrchlabí team,” says Michael Oeljeklaus, ŠKODA Board Member for Production and Logistics.

The Vrchlabí plant looks back on more than 150 years of history. It was founded in 1864 by Ignatz Theodor Petera as a saddlery. Automobile carriages were built at the foot of the Czech Giant Mountains from 1908. The first ŠKODA model was the ŠKODA TUDOR in 1946. In 2012, the site was repurposed from producing vehicles to component manufacturing. Within 18 months, the Czech car manufacturer had established a new factory building and modernized the existing facilities. The daily production capacity rose to more than 2,000 direct-shift gearboxes of the DQ 200 type. The plant now produces around 510,000 units per year. They are used in the models of the traditional Czech brand as well as in other series of the Volkswagen Group.

ŠKODA and the Volkswagen Group have invested a total of EUR 250 million in modernizing the production halls, technical facilities, the logistics area as well as the dedicated training centre for transmission manufacturing. At the same time, ŠKODA cooperates closely with local authorities and institutions and supports numerous cultural and ecological projects. With around 1,000 employees, ŠKODA Vrchlabí is one of the most important employers in the Hradec Králové region.

In 2015 the professional journal 'Produktion' and business consultancy A.T. Kearney awarded the high-tech factory ‘Factory of the Year’ in the category ‘Outstanding location development’ - one of the most prestigious prizes for the manufacturing industry in Europe. The evaluation was based on the criteria of value enhancement, customer satisfaction, quality, innovation and profitability. In its explanatory statement, the jury, consisting of leading representatives of industry and research, emphasized the short period during which ŠKODA had carried out the site transformation.

In addition to manufacturing transmissions at Vrchlabí, the mechanical MQ 200 and MQ 100 gearboxes are produced at the main plant in Mladá Boleslav. Here with the help of 700 employees, ŠKODA manufactures around 2,500 per day and more than 570,000 per year. These are used in the ŠKODA CITIGO, FABIA, RAPID, OCTAVIA, YETI and SUPERB as well as many other series of the Volkswagen Group.

ŠKODA focuses on environmentally friendly solutions for transport and logistics

› The use of four CNG-powered lorries at the main plant in Mladá Boleslav enables a significant reduction in harmful emissions
› New ‘Gigaliner’ lorries save up to 200 tonnes of CO2 per year
› ŠKODA production logistics is increasingly using zero-emission battery-powered transporters
› ‘GreenLogistics’ measures are an integral part of ŠKODA’s ‘GreenFuture’ environmental strategy

Mladá Boleslav, 10. February 2017 – ŠKODA further expands its environmentally friendly logistics fleet and puts four CNG-powered lorries (CNG = compressed natural gas) into service at its main plant in Mladá Boleslav. These four vehicles are being used for transporting goods within the company site, while another is destined for use in the supply chain. Their CNG drive enables a significant reduction in harmful emissions and transport costs. Furthermore, ŠKODA will use ‘Gigaliner’ lorries on selected routes in future. This will save up to 200 further tonnes of CO2 per year.

“As part of our overall social responsibility, we have traditionally devoted great attention to developing environmentally friendly logistics solutions,” said Michael Oeljeklaus, ŠKODA Board Member for Production and Logistics. “With the CNG-powered lorries, ŠKODA is making a further contribution to a sustainable company,” added Oeljeklaus.

Following a two-month trial period, four lorries with CNG drive are now being used in daily operations at the ŠKODA headquarters in Mladá Boleslav. Another of these environmentally friendly lorries has been used for transport to and from Stráž nad Nisou. It completes the 120-km journey twelve times per week and saves 16 tonnes of CO2 per year compared to a vehicle with a diesel engine.

The CNG lorries impress with considerably lower emissions than vehicles with a conventional engine and scored points during the trial period with a 30-per-cent reduction in fuel costs. Nitric oxide (NOx) emissions are 80 to 90 per cent lower, while carbon monoxide emissions (CO) are reduced by a total of 90 per cent. With an average fuel consumption of less than 50 kg of CNG per 100 km, emissions of particulates are reduced by up to 95 per cent, and CO2 emissions by 25 per cent.

The ‘Gigaliners’ that ŠKODA will be using on selected routes for transporting goods to and from suppliers from now on are another step forward in terms of environmental protection. The lorries, which are up to 25 m long, transport a volume of goods totalling 150 m3 per trip – 50 per cent more than a conventional lorry. ŠKODA thereby reduces the number of weekly trips along the 292-km route between Mladá Boleslav and Rokycany from 53 to 35 – this equates to 250,000 fewer kilometres per year and reductions in CO2 emissions of around 200 tonnes. Lower transport costs are another benefit.

For production logistics, ŠKODA is increasingly using zero-emission, battery-powered transporters on-site at the main plant in Mladá Boleslav. Hence as part of a pilot project, an electric tractor with two trailers was also fitted with solar panels. The photovoltaic modules charge the lithium-ion batteries while the vehicle is in motion. The battery-powered tractors cover around 70 km every day. By using solar power, ŠKODA expects an annual energy saving of around 10 per cent. If the trial period is a success, ŠKODA will equip more vehicles with photovoltaic technology. Alongside these tractors, another 18 battery-powered logistics tractors are in use at ŠKODA’s plants.

The initiative for CNG and electric power within Logistics is another component of the various environmental activities which ŠKODA is promoting as part of its ‘GreenFuture’ strategy. It consists of several elements: ‘GreenProduct’ deals with the development of vehicles that are as environmentally friendly as possible – in terms of fuel requirement as well as materials and recycling capabilities. With ‘GreenRetail’, the brand is promoting eco-friendly operations in their dealerships and workshops. ‘GreenFactory’ brings together all activities that help to conserve resources during production. This element also includes the ‘GreenLogistics’ area of action for sustainable logistics solutions. For the near future, the manufacturer envisages that the majority of their suppliers based near the Bohemian plants will deliver their components to the assembly lines exclusively using lorries powered using alternative resources.

Colloquium in Mladá Boleslav paves the way for 'Pact for the Future of Czech Auto Industry'

› Czech Government, Industry Association AutoSAP, ŠKODA AUTO and other representatives of Czech economy draw up plans to strengthen domestic automotive industry
› Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka, other ministers and Prague Mayor Adriana Krnáčová attended the auto summit

Mladá Boleslav, 16 February 2017 – At the ‘Colloquium on the Future of the Automotive Industry in the Czech Republic’, which was held at ŠKODA’s headquarters in Mladá Boleslav, high-ranking government representatives, representatives of the Czech Automobile Association, the trade union organization and the Czech economy set the course for the sustainable success of the Czech auto industry. Alongside Czech Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka (ČSSD), several ministers and other government members, as well as the mayor of Prague, Adriana Krnáčová, took part in the auto summit, organized by the Czech government and the Association of the Automotive Industry AutoSAP. One of the most important decisions at the event was the planned development of a ‘Pact for the Future of the Automotive Industry in the Czech Republic’, which is to be adopted in the middle of this year.

“The future of the automobile has begun,” said ŠKODA CEO, Bernhard Maier. “We are operating on a solid foundation and the advantage of being located in the Czech Republic is the envy of many. Now it is important to protect our existing strengths, while building and developing new ones. That is why I welcome the fact that together - politics, the automobile industry and the economy - we are drawing up a ‘pact for the future of the automotive industry in the Czech Republic’,” Maier continued. To this end, the participants of the auto summit – including representatives from the fields of politics, the automotive industry and other industries, alongside experts from universities and renowned research centres – will present specific measures and proposals by the middle of this year.

One of the core messages of the colloquium, which ŠKODA hosted, was: In addition to industrial production, services and digital technologies will increasingly shape the face of the economy in the brand’s home country. This change also bring important future issues and opportunities for the automotive industry, which is one of the pillars of the Czech economy. The automotive industry contributes nine percent to the gross domestic product of the Czech Republic, and is one of the most important employers – directly employing more than 150,000 people. In addition, there are hundreds of thousands of jobs in the supplier industry. The automotive sector accounts for 25 percent of all Czech exports. Well over half of all passenger cars produced in the Czech Republic car (around 57 percent) rolled off ŠKODA’s production lines in 2015. The traditional brand is the largest car manufacturer in the country and is represented in more than 100 markets around the world. ŠKODA has established itself as a successful volume brand in many locations. In 2016, the company produced more than one million vehicles for the third time in a row.

The summit participants discussed effective strategies to shape the change in the Czech automotive sector actively and sustainably. It was agreed that significantly higher investments in education and research & development are needed to ensure the competitiveness of the entire industry in the long term. Background: At present, Czech gross domestic product (GDP) is growing faster than investment in research and development. Two percent of GDP currently flows into this sector. The share of funding for education in the Czech Republic amounts to 4.4 percent of GDP. In the Czech Republic, the automotive industry is the largest investor in research & development at 24 percent. Taking into account the mechanical and electrical sector, this figure adds up to more than 50 percent.

The new business areas of electromobility, autonomous driving, increasing digitization and innovative mobility solutions offer great potential. In surveys, more than half of Czechs expressed their interest in purchasing an electric vehicle and modern connectivity solutions. 30 percent said they consider buying an autonomous vehicle.  This creates great potential for the Czech automotive industry. To fully exploit this and to master the forthcoming transformation processes successfully, ŠKODA proposed specific measures to the government representatives. For example, solutions for smart cities and digitization can be promoted, among other things, by the establishment of a nationwide broadband network. Autonomous driving will be supported by a national strategy, targeted funding for research & development and by installing a test corridor. The latter could link the ŠKODA headquarters in Mladá Boleslav to the cities of Prague, Plzeň, Rozvadov and the German metropolis of Nuremberg. In addition, ŠKODA proposed the reorientation of the National Plan for Clean Mobility, as well as the establishment of a consultative body at a government level for the rapid expansion of electromobility. Another important point was special customer incentives for electric cars.

With strategy 2025, ŠKODA has already set its own milestone plan for the technological change and the company’s long-term growth. The strategy sets forth the traditional Czech company’s plans to grow in two dimensions: Vehicle sales will consistently increase, while new business areas for innovative mobility services will be established. An integral part of this forward-looking strategy is the new DigiLab in Prague, which aims to strengthen the company’s innovative- and digital-development expertise.

The automotive industry is an important pillar of the Czech economy
With consistently positive economic development, the domestic automotive industry has underscored its importance for the entire country for several years. For example, the sales of all companies organized by the AutoSAP Association increased by 7 percent to CZK 912 billion between 2014 and 2015. Exports rose by 7.2 percent to CZK 780 billion in the same period. In 2015 the automobile industry in the Czech Republic achieved a new historical record with a total of 1.3 million vehicles produced. While production volumes rose by only 1.1 percent worldwide, they rose 4.2 percent in ŠKODA’s home country. As a result, the automotive industry made a major contribution to the economic growth in the Czech Republic, which reached 4.6 percent in 2015. For the current year, the Czech National Bank expects a GDP increase of three percent.

With more than 26,000 employees, ŠKODA is one of the largest employers in the Czech Republic. A further 150,000 people are employed by the manufacturer’s suppliers. Since 1991, the company has invested over CZK 350 billion into manufacturing processes and the local factories in Mladá Boleslav, Kvasiny and Vrchlabí.

In addition, the high wages in the Czech automotive industry, which are around 26 percent above national average, are boosting domestic demand and having a positive knock-on effect on the state budget. This is also true of the low unemployment rate, which reached one of the lowest rates in the European Union in 2016, at just 5.2 percent.

ŠKODA celebrates 13 millionth engine from Mladá Boleslav and launches production of new 1.0 TSI
20.2.2017 | category: Company

› State-of-the-art three-cylinder combines compact design with exemplary smoothness
› Engines developed and built at ŠKODA headquarters in Mladá Boleslav for 118 years
› ŠKODA manufacturing powertrains for Volkswagen Group brands since 1997
› 1.0 TSI extends the engine family range once again

Mladá Boleslav, 20 February 2017 – ŠKODA has produced the 13 millionth engine.  At the same time, the production of the new 1.0 TSI powertrain commences at the Mladá Boleslav engine plant.  The three-cylinder turbo petrol engine belongs to the EA 211 family of engines, which ŠKODA builds in four displacement volumes. The four-valve unit with aluminium engine block is characterized by its compact dimensions and exemplary running smoothness. The production of powertrains at ŠKODA’s headquarters began in 1899, when Václav Klement and Václav Laurin, the brand’s founding fathers, constructed their first motorcycle.

“The milestone of 13 million units produced by ŠKODA represents 118 years of engineering skill and the performance of our team," says Michael Oeljeklaus, ŠKODA Board Member for Production and Logistics. "Our headquarters is one of the longest-established sites in the automotive industry for the construction and development of powertrains. With the production launch of the TSI three-cylinder EA 211 series, we are adding another chapter to this success story.”

The first powertrain to leave Laurin & Klement’s workshop in Mladá Boleslav was a 1.25 hp single cylinder for the Slavia motorcycles built by the company that was founded in 1895. Previously, Laurin and Klement had built bicycles under the brand name ‘Slavia’ in the Central-Bohemian town. In 1905, they constructed their first automobile, the Voiturette A, with a water-cooled 1,005 cc engine and 7 horsepower. In 1997, six years after the company’s relaunch under the umbrella of the Volkswagen Group, ŠKODA supplied engines from Mladá Boleslav to sister brands within the group for the first time.

The production of the EA 211 model series began in 2012. This engine family is characterized by an aluminium cylinder block and twin overhead camshafts, which actuate four valves per cylinder. The exhaust manifold is integrated into the cylinder head.

The new 1.0 TSI once again extends the range of the engine family. The modern three-cylinder has weight-optimized, forged connecting rods and aluminium pistons. It does not require a balance shaft and features exemplary running smoothness. Compared to comparatively powerful four-cylinder engines, it is more compact, lighter and generates less friction, and thus operates much more efficiently.

In recent years, ŠKODA has significantly increased the main plant’s production capacity for both vehicles and engines. Today, up to 2,300 engines are built in Mladá Boleslav per day. Some 1,400 people are employed in engine production.
ŠKODA is continually investing in the expansion of engine development and production. In 2014, the company opened its new engine centre. The following year, construction work on the extension began, which will be operational in March, 2017.

In addition to engines, ŠKODA produces gearboxes for its own models and models of sister brands. In Mladá Boleslav, the MQ 100 and MQ 200 manual transmissions run off the production lines, and the DQ 200 automatic direct-shift gearbox is produced at Vrchlabí, where the 1.5-millionth DSG was recently produced.

ŠKODA RAPID and ŠKODA RAPID SPACEBACK – optimized interior and exterior

› ŠKODA RAPID and ŠKODA RAPID SPACEBACK with new exterior design
› Bi-xenon lights and LED technology
› Newly designed interior with modified instrument optics
› Connectivity - with WLAN hotspot on board ‘always online’
› Efficient and sporty 1.0-TSI engines with three cylinders
› Premiere at the International Motor Show in Geneva 2017

Mladá Boleslav, 22 February 2017 – ŠKODA is enhancing the elegant and affordable family favourites ŠKODA RAPID and RAPID ŠKODA SPACEBACK with numerous innovations. New lighting systems ensure even greater safety. Passengers are 'always online' thanks to a WLAN hotspot. The new programme includes two 1.0-TSI engines with three cylinders, which are efficient and low-emission, yet dynamic. The upgraded models will be presented to the public for the first time at the Geneva International Motor Show (7 – 19 March, 2017).

Positioned between the ŠKODA FABIA and ŠKODA OCTAVIA, the ŠKODA RAPID and ŠKODA RAPID SPACEBACK are in the class of compact cars and set the benchmark for spaciousness among the direct competition. Compact on the outside, they boast a tremendous amount of space on the inside. Now both models have been optimized

Newly designed front and rear

The visual enhancement of the ŠKODA RAPID is particularly evident at the front. The modified fog lights shine in the newly designed lower part of the bumper. A narrow chrome strip (standard from Style up) connects the lights and creates a wider-looking front end.  Black-tinted covers on the taillights in the distinctive C-shape (ŠKODA RAPID LED technology as an option) give the rear an even sportier look. The ŠKODA RAPID SPACEBACK now also features an extended rear window. The boot door, popular for its size and width, makes it easy to load the luggage compartment. The side view on both models is characterized by the long wheelbase and the coupe-like silhouette, with a sharp tornado line creating an interplay of light and shadow.

The wheels are available in new designs: COSTA for the size 15 inch, EVORA (silver) and VIGO (silver / black metallic) for the size 16 inch, TRIUS (silver), and TORINO (black polished, for the Monte Carlo edition) the size 17 inch.

New intelligent lights

The main headlights of the ŠKODA RAPID and ŠKODA RAPID SPACEBACK now shine with bi-xenon lights, the daytime running light uses LED technology. The Light Assistant completes the programme: It activates the daytime running light with the ignition. A sensor then continually measures the light conditions and switches the headlights on or off automatically. This applies to both twilight and driving through tunnels. A predetermined time for brightness can be set using the Coming Home and Leaving Home functions. The vehicle environment is illuminated so that the passengers can safely get in our out.

Finally, the high-beam assistant always ensures optimal illumination of the road. In the dark and at speeds above 60 km/h, the sensor detects vehicles ahead (up to a distance of 400 meters), as well as on-coming traffic (up to 1,000 meters) and dims the lights as appropriate.

Benchmark for spaciousness

The interior of the upgraded ŠKODA RAPID and ŠKODA RAPID SPACEBACK features many design changes. Firstly, new inlays have been added to the four doors. The air nozzles in the dashboard, the instruments and the control panel of the manual air-conditioning system have also been redesigned.

The compact exterior dimensions and the comparatively spacious interior make the ŠKODA RAPID (4.48 meters long, 1.71 meters wide, 1.46 meters high) and the ŠKODA RAPID SPACEBACK (4.30 meters long, 1.71 meters wide 1.46 meters high) extremely popular with families. The interior seats up to five passengers. The headroom in the rear of the ŠKODA RAPID has a generous 972 millimetres (ŠKODA RAPID SPACEBACK: 980 millimetres), the legroom in both models is 65 millimetres. With a capacity of 550 litres (ŠKODA RAPID SPACEBACK: 415 litres), the boot volume of the ŠKODA RAPID sets the benchmark among the competition.

New: dynamic and efficient three-cylinder TSI engines

As part of the upgrade, a 1.0-litre TSI engine is now available for the ŠKODA RAPID and ŠKODA RAPID SPACEBACK. Responsiveness and efficiency characterise the three-cylinder, which is available in two power levels:

ŠKODA RAPID
1.0 TSI with 70 kW (95 PS), top speed of 187 km/h, 0 – 100 km/h in 11,0 sec., consumption combined 4,4 l/100 km, CO2 101 g/km
1.0 TSI with 81 kW (110 PS), top speed of 200 km/h, 0 – 100 km/h in 9,8 sec., consumption combined 4,5 l/100 km, CO2 104 g/km.

ŠKODA RAPID SPACEBACK
1.0 TSI with 70 kW (95 PS), top speed of 184 km/h, 0 – 100 km/h in 11,0 sec., consumption combined 4,4 l/100 km, CO2 101 g/km
1.0 TSI with 81 kW (110 PS), top speed of 198 km/h, 0 – 100 km/h in 9,8 sec., consumption combined 4,5 l/100 km, CO2 104 g/km.

The new petrol engine combines numerous advantages: Thanks to the compact design and the aluminium crankcase, it weighs ten kilograms less than the 1.2-litre unit used previously, and runs particularly quietly. On account of the low free-inertia forces, a balance shaft, which would otherwise be used in a three-cylinder, is not required. This reduces the weight and helps to reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. The oil pump achieves the same effect with a flow-adjustable output; the required oil pressure is continuously adapted to the engine load. The intercooler turbocharger is integrated into the intake manifold, which means that the charge pressure spontaneously builds up.

In addition to the two 1.0 TSI, three other engines are available for the ŠKODA RAPID and ŠKODA RAPID SPACEBACK. All powertrains are equipped with brake energy recovery, a start-stop system and meet the EU6 emission standard. The diesel engines operate with direct common-rail injection and diesel particulate filters. The following are available:

ŠKODA RAPID
1.4 TSI with 92 kW (125 hp), top speed of 208 km/h, 0 – 100 km/h in 9,0 sec., consumption combined 4.8 l/100 km, CO2 113 g/km.
1.4 TDI with 66 kW (90 hp), top speed of 185 km/h, 0 – 100 km/h in 11,7 sec., consumption combined 3,9 l/100 km, CO2 103 g/km.
1.6 TDI with 85 kW (116 hp), top speed of 201 km/h, 0 – 100 km/h in 10,0 sec., consumption combined 4,1 l/100 km, CO2 107 g/km.

ŠKODA RAPID SPACEBACK
1.4 TSI with 92 kW (125 hp), top speed of 205 km/h, 0 – 100 km/h in 8,9 sec., consumption combined 4.8 l/100 km, CO2 113 g/km.
1.4 TDI with 66 kW (90 hp), top speed of 183 km/h, 0 – 100 km/h in 11,6 sec., consumption combined 3,9 l/100 km, CO2 103 g/km.
1.6 TDI with 85 kW (116 hp), top speed of 198 km/h, 0 – 100 km/h in 9,9 sec., consumption combined 4,1 l/100 km, CO2 107 g/km.

ŠKODA Connect - WLAN hotspot and help at the touch of a button
Passengers in the upgraded ŠKODA RAPID and ŠKODA RAPID SPACEBACK are always online thanks to the WLAN hotspot. The new ŠKODA Connect services consist of Infotainment Online and CareConnect services. Infotainment Online is the online traffic information, which transmits the traffic flow on the selected route in real time and suggests a traffic jam route. Other available information consist of fuel stations including current fuel prices, parking spaces, current news and weather.

CareConnect services support the driver in many situations, and are available for all equipment variants and the Amundsen and Swing infotainment systems. The data is transferred via a permanently integrated SIM card. The offer includes the automatic emergency call, which can be used to establish a connection to an emergency call centre or operated manually even after a restraint system has been triggered.

The CareConnect services also include a breakdown call function, which can be used to arrange help when needed or answer questions on vehicle technology, and the Proactive Service. This makes it possible to transfer maintenance-relevant vehicle data to the ŠKODA workshop in good time before a service. Via the ŠKODA Connect app on the smartphone, at any time the driver can remotely access vehicle information, find out whether the windows, doors or sunroof are closed, and view the fuel gauge of the ŠKODA RAPID and ŠKODA RAPID SPACEBACK. In addition, it is possible to send navigation information to the car and display the current parking position of the vehicle on the smartphone.

The music and navigation systems of the ŠKODA RAPID and ŠKODA RAPID SPACEBACK are based on the second-generation modular infotainment kit. Features such as the ŠKODA surround system, Bluetooth hands-free kit and an Apple-compatible USB port come as standard or are available as options. The smartphone interface SmartLink+, which supports Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, MirrorLinkTM and SmartGate standards, can also be used with the ŠKODA RAPID and ŠKODA RAPID SPACEBACK display.

Comprehensive active and passive safety
The ŠKODA RAPID and ŠKODA RAPID SPACEBACK continue to feature a wide range of safety systems: The electronic stabilization control ESC and a continual tyre-pressure monitoring, for example, come as standard. They also feature the multi-collision brake, which, in the event of an accident, reduces the risk of multiple collisions by preventing the continuous rolling of the vehicle. The trailer-stabilization programme expands the electronic stabilization control.

Modern assistance systems, such as fatigue detection and Front Assist, including city emergency braking function, are also available for both models. Optional features, such as fog lamps with integrated cornering light and Hill-Climb Assist increase the active safety level. The park distance control for front and rear ensures comfort and safety.

The passive safety systems protect the occupants in the event of an impact, inter alia, with six airbags in the front, side and head area, as well as height-adjustable three-point safety belts with belt tensioners as standard. KESSY provides even more comfort. The abbreviation stands for the keyless entry and start-stop system. By touching the sensor on the door handle, the vehicle unlocks or locks automatically. The ‘Start/Stop Engine’ button starts or stops the engine.

'Simply Clever': two additional USB ports in the rear
ŠKODA is known for its numerous 'Simply Clever' solutions. Ideas that make passengers' journey on board even more enjoyable. The new additions to the upgraded ŠKODA RAPID and ŠKODA RAPID SPACEBACK include two USB ports in the back, which can be used to charge smartphones or other small mobile devices. Furthermore, the following practical details can be found in the vehicle (standard or optional): ice scraper in the fuel tank cover, boot mat – one side carpet, the other rubber, a holder for the hi-viz vest under the driver's seat, umbrella in the compartment under the passenger seat, portable waste container, USB port and multimedia holders in the centre console, ticket holder on the windshield, various cup holders, nets on the reverse of the front seats and a net programme for the boot.

ŠKODA sells its two-millionth vehicle in China

› Milestone vehicle is a ŠKODA SUPERB Ambition with 1.4 TSI engine
› ŠKODA OCTAVIA bestseller in China with more than a million delivered units
› In 2017, ŠKODA is celebrating the tenth anniversary of its entry into the Chinese market
› China is the largest single market for the Czech car manufacturer
› Volkswagen, SAIC Motor Corporation Limited and ŠKODA AUTO agree an investment plan worth €2 billion for vehicles with alternative drive systems and several SUVs

Mladá Boleslav/Shanghai, 27 February 2017 – ŠKODA has delivered its two-millionth vehicle in China. The milestone vehicle is a ŠKODA SUPERB with a 1.4 TSI engine in Polar White. Werner Eichhorn, ŠKODA Board Member for Sales and Marketing, handed over the brand’s flagship to customer Li Hongan in Shanghai. China is the largest single market for the long-established Czech brand. In 2017, ŠKODA is celebrating the tenth anniversary of its entry into the Chinese market.

“As our largest single market, China is an important pillar of the ŠKODA growth strategy,” said Werner Eichhorn, ŠKODA Board Member for Sales and Marketing. “We are delighted that our ŠKODA model range is being so well received by Chinese consumers and that we have already been able to convince two million customers of the merits of our vehicles. We intend to continue to press ahead with this successful development in the years to come. Our SUV campaign, which ŠKODA is now also launching in China, is expected to contribute to this,” added Eichhorn.

The development of ŠKODA in China is an unprecedented success story. The Czech manufacturer entered the Chinese market in 2007. Back then, ŠKODA began production of the OCTAVIA locally under the umbrella of SAIC Volkswagen. In close collaboration with the Chinese joint venture partner, China became ŠKODA’s most important single market as early as 2010. After six years and three months, it had reached the milestone of the first million vehicles sold; it took a mere three and a half years to sell the second million.

As the bestseller, the ŠKODA OCTAVIA is at the top of the popularity scale. The two million vehicles sold in China included almost 1,107,000 of the ŠKODA OCTAVIA, more than 305,000 ŠKODA RAPIDs, nearly 268,000 of the ŠKODA SUPERB, over 251,000 ŠKODA FABIAs and around 69,000 of the ŠKODA YETI. Today, the brand is one of the established volume manufacturers in China. A total of six ŠKODA model ranges roll off the production line in China, i.e. the FABIA, RAPID, RAPID SPACEBACK, OCTAVIA, YETI and SUPERB. The KODIAQ, ŠKODA’s first large SUV, will be launched in the second quarter of 2017.

“KODIAQ represents an important step for ŠKODA in China. It is an entry of the brand into completely new segment but it is also a start of a comprehensive SUV campaign. During this campaign ŠKODA will bring four SUVs for the Chinese market. We are very confident about this step and the first reactions show us that it is the right direction for the brand,” said Michael Arndt, Executive Director for Sales and Marketing at SAIC ŠKODA.

In 2016, ŠKODA delivered more than 300,000 vehicles in China for the first time – a record for the brand. With this, ŠKODA grew by 12.6 per cent in its largest single market compared to the previous year, clocking up sales of 317,100 vehicles (2015: 281,700 vehicles).

ŠKODA incorporates specific requirements and preferences of Chinese customers into the concept, design and features of newly developed models. With the SUV campaign, which is gathering pace with the launch of the KODIAQ, ŠKODA is transferring its expressive design into the SUV segment and emphasising the brand’s emotive power. The SUV campaign is an important pillar of the current ŠKODA strategy.

ŠKODA will further develop its position and increase its presence in the Chinese market in the future. During the state visit of the Chinese president Xi Jinping to the Czech Republic on 30th March 2016, Volkswagen, SAIC Motor Corporation Limited and ŠKODA AUTO signed a memorandum of understanding concerning a five-year investment plan worth €2 billion. The objective is to expand the current model range, for example by adding vehicles with alternative drive systems and several SUVs.

ŠKODA FABIA 1.0 TSI: dynamic three-cylinder engine with low fuel consumption

› ŠKODA’s small car with more power and dynamism, up to 6 per cent less fuel consumption
› 1.0-litre cylinder capacity with 70 kW (95 PS) or 81 kW (110 PS)
› Efficient and environmentally friendly due to lightweight construction and state-of-the-art technology
› Acceleration from 80-120 km/h improved by up to 3.9 seconds
› With new ŠKODA Connect services ,always on'
› Premiere at the Geneva International Motor Show

Mladá Boleslav, 1 March 2017 – Less cylinder capacity, more power. In the ŠKODA FABIA and ŠKODA FABIA COMBI, a 1.0 TSI engine with three cylinders and four valves is replacing the 1.2-litre engine with four cylinders that has been used to date. The new engine offers more power. The power output of the ŠKODA FABIA 1.0 TSI is 70 kW (95 PS), while the output of the more powerful version is at 81 kW (110 PS) but offers an improved torque of 200 Nm (previously 175 Nm). Downsizing offers another advantage: the engines’ fuel consumption has been reduced by up to six per cent. One reason for this is the three-cylinder’s engine concept with a reduced weight of the free inertial forces and a more efficient oil pump. The revised ŠKODA FABIA and ŠKODA FABIA COMBI will be introduced to the public for the first time at the Geneva International Motor Show (7-19 March 2017).

Injection pressure reduces consumption by up to 6 percent Downsizing, lightweight construction, more turbo power – the ŠKODA FABIA and ŠKODA FABIA COMBI feature the Czech car manufacturer’s latest developments under their bonnets. Thanks to an increase in injection pressure to 250 bar, both power variants of the new 1.0-litre engine offer better driving performance than the 1.2-litre engines that have been used up to now and they also achieve a reduction in fuel consumption of up to 6 per cent.

The third generation of the ŠKODA FABIA impresses with a dynamic and emotive design, a large amount of interior space, innovative safety, comfort and infotainment systems‚ and numerous ‘Simply Clever’ features. The car offers a range of in-car equipment that exceeds the current offering in the small car segment by far.

Three-cylinder engine with very smooth running and sporty sound

Besides its smooth running, the ŠKODA FABIA’s new 1.0-l TSI three-cylinder engine also impresses with its sporty and dynamic sound. With its compact construction and due to its lightweight aluminium crankcase, the engine weighs ten kilograms less than the 1.2-litre engine that has been used to date. The aluminium pistons and the connecting rods are so well balanced that the engine runs in a particularly smooth and refined manner with very little friction. A balancing shaft is therefore unnecessary. This saves on weight and helps to reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.

The oil pump, which has a freely controllable flow rate, also helps with this. It continuously adjusts the pressure required to suit the engine load. The boost pressure, which reaches up to 1.6 bar (relatively), increases highly spontaneously due to the turbocharger’s intercooler being integrated into the induction tract. The engine comes across as very responsive and dynamic because the frequency of the exhaust pulses generally builds quicker than with the four-cylinder, for example. This occurs even at low rpm, providing a clear advantage in city traffic.

The 1.0 TSI with 70 kW (95 PS): stronger, faster, more tractability and quicker acceleration

The power output of the ŠKODA FABIA 1.0 TSI with manual five-speed transmission is 70 kW (95 PS). Torque remains unchanged at 160 Nm, yet the driving performance has been improved. Compared to the 1.2 litre engine with four cylinder used to date, the top speed has increased by 3 km/h to 185 km/h (ŠKODA FABIA COMBI: from 185 to 187 km/h) and the acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h has improved by 0.3 seconds to 10.6 seconds (ŠKODA FABIA COMBI: from 11.0 to 10.8 seconds). The engine’s tractability from 60 to 100 km/h and from 80 to 120 km/h is identical to its predecessor. The fuel consumption and emissions of the hatchback and Combi,on the other hand, have dropped considerably from 4.6 l per 100 km (105 g CO2/km) to 4.3 l per 100 km (99 g CO2/km).

The 1.0 TSI with 81 kW (110 PS): power output unchanged, considerably more torque

Just like its 1.2-litre predecessor, the more powerful 1.0-litre engine with manual six-speed transmission delivers 81 kW (110 PS); however, its torque has increased from 175 to 200 Nm. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h is achieved in 9.5 seconds (ŠKODA FABIA COMBI 9.6 seconds); the top speed is 196 km/h (ŠKODA FABIA COMBI 199 km/h). The increase in torque is most noticeable when accelerating on country roads or motorways. The improved tractability of the engine is most evident when it is combined with the optional 7-speed DSG transmission. In the highest gear, the short burst from 60 to 100 km/h can now be accomplished up to 2.6 seconds faster (ŠKODA FABIA hatchback 2.4 seconds), while acceleration from 80 to 120 km/h is as much as 4.1 seconds faster (ŠKODA FABIA hatchback 3.9 seconds). In the manual versions of the hatchback and Combi, the fuel consumption and emissions of the three-cylinder with 81 KW / 110 PS have dropped by 0.3 l to 4.4 l per 100 km (101 g CO2/km). For the DSG-transmission versions, the fuel consumption has reduced in both variants by 0.1 l to 4.5 l per 100 km (104 g CO2/km).

Driver assistance systems usually seen in higher segments

The ŠKODA FABIA provides safety systems that exceed the current offering in the small car segment by far. In addition to six airbags, the Electronic Stability Control (ESC) and the XDS+ electronic differential lock, the portfolio also includes the optional Front Assist (reduces the risk of rear-end collisions) with the integrated City Emergency Brake function (which brings the vehicle to a standstill when an impending collision is detected). Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) is also available for the new three-cylinder versions. This consistently maintains a gap from the vehicle in front at speeds of up to 160 km/h. The Multi-Collision Brake function automatically applies the ŠKODA FABIA’s brakes after an accident to prevent any further damage. Driver Alert fatigue detection recognises a reduction in the driver’s concentration and emits a warning. The Speed Limiter function prevents the vehicle from going above the chosen speed. Hill-Hold Control provides assistance when performing a hill start. The electronic tyre pressure monitor comes as standard in EU countries.

Numerous comfort features also make the ŠKODA FABIA unique in the small car segment. These include the KESSY (Keyless Entry Start and Exit System) automatic electronic starting and locking system, and the front and rear parking sensors. The rain sensor as well as Light Assist provide optimum visibility. The former automatically regulates the speed of the windscreen wipers and the latter turns full beam on or off depending on the light conditions.

In-car ŠKODA Connect, help at the touch of a button

As an option, occupants in the ŠKODA FABIA can be ‘always online’ thanks to the new ŠKODA Connect services, which consist of Infotainment Online and Care Connect. One of the most attractive services that Infotainment Online has to offer is online traffic information, which shows traffic flow on the selected route in real time and suggests alternative routes in the event of a traffic jam. Infotainment Online services also provide information on petrol stations, available parking spaces, the news and the weather.
The Care Connect services support drivers in many situations. Data is transferred via a SIM card that is permanently installed in the vehicle. The services include Emergency Call, which automatically connects to an emergency call centre when a restraint system has been deployed; it can also be operated manually.

The Care Connect services also include Breakdown Call – which can be used to arrange help, if necessary, or to provide answers to technical questions about the vehicle – and Proactive Service. Proactive Service allows service-relevant vehicle data to be sent to a ŠKODA garage in a timely manner before the vehicle’s service. The driver can remotely access information about whether the windows, doors and sunroof are closed as well as the ŠKODA FABIA’s remaining fuel level via the ŠKODA Connect app at any time. Furthermore, they can send navigation destinations to the car or display the vehicle’s current parking location on their smartphone.
The SmartLink+ interface transfers selected smartphone apps including navigation apps to the infotainment system’s display. The integrated SmartGate function makes it possible to collect and save vehicle data on a connected smartphone and use it on the move.

‘Simply Clever’ – the ŠKODA FABIA is packed full of well-thought-out features

Like all ŠKODA models, the ŠKODA FABIA is packed full of ‘Simply Clever’ features, including an umbrella under the passenger seat, an ice scraper in the fuel filler flap, a multimedia cradle in the centre console’s cup holder (provides space for a smartphone or iPod) a portable waste bin, a hi-vis-vest storage compartment and bottle holder in the door trims, storage nets on the inside of the front seats and space for a 1.0-litre bottle in the glove compartment.

Last but not least, the ŠKODA FABIA will be presented with its new 1.0 TSI engine.

World premiere for the ŠKODA OCTAVIA RS 245 and ŠKODA OCTAVIA SCOUT

The ŠKODA OCTAVIA RS 245 – with its powerful engine and modern chassis technology including electronically regulated VAQ limited-slip differential – promises the ultimate driving experience. The compact athlete, with an increased power output of 180 kW (245 PS), is available as a hatchback and a Combi. The performance data is impressive: from a standing start, it takes only 6.6 seconds to reach 100 km/h, the top speed is limited to 250 km/h and maximum torque of 370 Nm is achieved between 1,600 and 4,300 rpm. Compared to the ‘standard’ models in the series, the sports chassis lowers the body by 15 mm; its rear track is 30 mm wider than that of its predecessor. The standard, burnished gloss-black alloy wheels are 19 inches in diameter. The ESC stability system with Sport mode and the electronically regulated VAQ limited-slip differential emphasise the car’s dynamic character, as do the progressive steering and the optional adaptive Dynamic Chassis Control (DCC).

The ŠKODA OCTAVIA SCOUT comes with distinctive characteristics: a robust design in an off-road look, a wide variety of uses, powerful, yet efficient engines and all-wheel drive as standard. Its discrete, robust appearance is characterised by special features such as moulding on the bumpers, wheel arches and door sills, silver-coloured underbody protection at the front and rear, 17-inch alloy wheels, as well as a wider rear track. The standard equipment also includes the Rough-Road package, LED daytime running lights and the C-shaped LED tail lights.

World premiere for ŠKODA KODIAQ SCOUT and ŠKODA KODIAQ SPORTLINE

ŠKODA’s large SUV is a further highlight on the exhibition stand in Hall 2. The spotlight will be on two variants in particular. The ŠKODA KODIAQ SCOUT and the ŠKODA KODIAQ SPORTLINE will be celebrating their world premiere. The Czech car manufacturer is continuing its campaign in the SUV segment with the new ŠKODA KODIAQ SCOUT model variant. The ŠKODA KODIAQ SCOUT comes equipped with all-wheel drive as standard and emphasises its off-road capabilities both visually and through its technological features. For fans of a sporty appearance, the Czech car manufacturer has designed the ŠKODA KODIAQ SPORTLINE as an elegant and dynamic SUV variant. The exterior and interior are both characterised by specially designed features. There is a choice of four engine versions available for the ŠKODA KODIAQ SPORTLINE: two TSI petrol engines and two TDI diesel engines ranging from 110 kW (150 PS) to 140 kW (190 PS). The ŠKODA KODIAQ SPORTLINE provides pure driving pleasure.

Premiere for the upgraded ŠKODA RAPID and ŠKODA RAPID SPACEBACK

The ŠKODA RAPID sets the benchmark for spaciousness amongst its direct competitors. Design and equipment have now been upgraded further. In Geneva, the ŠKODA RAPID SPACEBACK is on show in the particularly sporty Monte Carlo version. Numerous black design elements identify the 4,303-mm-long compact car as an athlete at first glance. Looking at the car’s rear, the longer rear window (now available as standard from the Style trim level upwards) is most eye-catching. Visually, it merges seamlessly into the large tailgate’s upper edge, which is also black.

Premiere for the upgraded ŠKODA CITIGO

The ŠKODA CITIGO and the ŠKODA CITIGO MONTE CARLO are presented in Geneva with a completely redesigned front section and an upgraded interior. The city runabout, available with three or five doors, impresses with a generous amount of space, an excellent layout, a high level of safety, good handling, new, particularly efficient MPI petrol engines and the traditionally attractive value for money.

Premiere for the ŠKODA FABIA with new three-cylinder 1.0-TSI engine

The third generation of the ŠKODA FABIA impresses with a dynamic and emotive design, a large amount of interior space, innovative safety, comfort and infotainment systems‚ and numerous ‘Simply Clever’ features. A new three-cylinder-engine is available with two different power outputs. Its aluminium pistons and the connecting rods are so well balanced that the engine runs almost friction-free, quietly and smoothly. Thanks to an increase in injection pressure to 250 bar, both power variants of the new 1.0-litre engine achieve good driving performance and reduction in fuel consumption of up to six per cent.

Mladá Boleslav / Geneva, 7th March 2017 – ŠKODA will present an abundance of world and exhibition premieres at the Geneva International Motor Show (7th - 19th March 2017). At the show by Lake Geneva the spotlight is on two variants of the ŠKODA OCTAVIA: the ŠKODA OCTAVIA RS 245, with 180 kW (245 PS) the fastest and most powerful model in the company’s history, and the ŠKODA OCTAVIA SCOUT, a robust all-rounder with an off-road look. Two new variants of the large ŠKODA SUV, the ŠKODA KODIAQ SCOUT and the ŠKODA KODIAQ SPORTLINE can be seen for the first time at Palexpo in Geneva. Making their debut are also the revised ŠKODA RAPID and the ŠKODA RAPID SPACEBACK, the modified ŠKODA CITIGO as well as the ŠKODA FABIA, which comes with a new 1.0 TSI engine.
ŠKODA finished 2016 with a new sales record: 1,127,700 vehicles were delivered to customers worldwide, which corresponds to an increase of 6.8 per cent compared to 2015. “The record result is impressive proof of the further increased attractiveness of our young and modern model range,” said ŠKODA CEO Bernhard Maier. “Our vehicles’ emotive design, modern technology and many practical advantages are winning over more and more customers. And we will also continue this trend in 2017. The programme consists of eleven new models. In the first half of the year, we are already expecting a boost mainly from our new, large SUV, the ŠKODA KODIAQ, as well as from our comprehensively revised bestseller, the ŠKODA OCTAVIA.”

ŠKODA OCTAVIA RS 245: heaps of power and dynamism

The ŠKODA OCTAVIA RS 245 – with its powerful engine and modern chassis technology including electronically regulated VAQ limited-slip differential – promises the ultimate driving experience. The compact sports car, now with a power output of 180 kW (245 PS), is available as a hatchback and a Combi. The performance data is impressive: from a standing start, it only takes 6.6 seconds to reach a speed of 100 km/h; the top speed is electronically limited to 250 km/h.

The masculine and dynamic appearance of the ŠKODA OCTAVIA RS 245 is emphasised by the new front section with wider radiator grille and the wide honeycomb air inlets in the redesigned bumper. The radiator’s grille and frame trim both come in a gloss-black finish. The redesigned headlights in a crystalline look feature LED technology and the adaptive front light system, AFS, as standard. The fog lights, tail lights and number plate illumination also feature LED technology and a crystalline look. The wing mirrors and the trapezoid tailpipes are likewise black. Due to the strikingly sporty note of its sports exhaust system, you can even hear that the ŠKODA OCTAVIA RS 245 is different to other models in the range.

As is usual for all ŠKODAs, the car offers above-average interior and boot space. The mainly black interior shines from the roof lining to the footwell with the silver-coloured pedals in an aluminium finish. The RS leather sports seats provide maximum support in fast corners. The front seats bear the RS logo – as do the front door sills. The multifunction sports leather steering wheel with perforated leather and integrated steering wheel paddles (for DSG transmissions) matches the car’s dynamic ambience. The LED ambient lighting in the RS-typical decorative trims immerses the interior in one of the ten colour options. A colour Maxi-DOT display forms part of the instrument cluster.
The ŠKODA OCTAVIA’s top-of-the-range model has a 180-kW (245-PS), four-cylinder, TSI petrol engine under its bonnet. Maximum torque of 370 Nm is achieved between 1,600 and 4,300 rpm. You can choose a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 7-speed, dual-clutch transmission.
Compared to the ‘normal’ models in the range, the sports chassis lowers the body of the ŠKODA OCTAVIA RS 245 by 15 mm, its rear track is 30 mm wider than that of its predecessor, the ŠKODA OCTAVIA RS 230. The standard, burnished gloss-black alloy wheels are 19 inches in diameter. The ESC stability system with Sport mode, as well as the electronically regulated VAQ limited-slip differential emphasise the dynamic character. The same applies to the progressive steering and the optional adaptive Dynamic Chassis Control (DCC).
The ŠKODA OCTAVIA RS 245 provides exceptional value for money for sporty and ambitious yet practical, down-to-earth drivers.

ŠKODA OCTAVIA SCOUT: robust off-road look

The ŠKODA OCTAVIA SCOUT comes with distinguishing features: a robust design in an off-road look, a wide variety of uses, powerful, yet efficient engines and all-wheel drive as standard. Like all the current ŠKODA OCTAVIA models, it has a new front section with additional headlights and a modified rear. Its discrete, robust appearance is characterised by special features such as moulding on the bumpers, wheel arches and door sills, silver-coloured underbody protection at the front and rear, 17-inch alloy wheels, as well as a wider rear track. The standard equipment includes the Rough-Road package, LED daytime running lights and the C-shaped LED tail lights.
The ŠKODA OCTAVIA SCOUT also impresses with its interior space – which is particularly generous for the compact car segment – good layout, distinct versatility, a high level of functionality and great driving characteristics. Thanks to the 171-mm ground clearance, a departure angle of 14.5 degrees and all-wheel drive with electronically controlled multi-plate clutch as standard, the five-door car also guarantees driving pleasure when taking the OCTAVIA SCOUT off-road. As standard, the front and rear axle are equipped with an electronic differential lock, which makes pulling away easy on any surface.

Numerous storage solutions in the interior increase its practicality. The heated, three-spoke leather steering wheel with multifunctional buttons, LED ambient lighting in the decorative door trims – which can be set to one of ten colours – illumination of the front and rear interior door handles, special seat covers that are particularly breathable, and heated front seats – all of which come as standard – ensure exceptional comfort.

For the ŠKODA OCTAVIA SCOUT there is a choice of three powerful yet efficient engines. The 1.8 TSI petrol delivers 132 kW (180 PS) and is coupled with a 6-speed dual-clutch transmission. The 2.0-litre diesel is available in a choice of two different power variants. A 6-speed manual gearbox or a 7-speed DSG transmission are available for the 110-kW (150-PS) engine. The top-of-the-range diesel with a power output of 135 kW (184 PS) is equipped with a 6-speed DSG transmission.

The current ŠKODA OCTAVIA SCOUT can of course be equipped with any of ŠKODA’s new-generation modern infotainment systems. The capacitive touch displays of the Bolero, Amundsen and Columbus systems feature a glass design. The wide range of driver assistance systems sets benchmarks for the competitors. New functions include Trailer Assist, Blind Spot Detect, which warns of any vehicles in the blind spot, and Rear Traffic Alert, which monitors traffic coming from the sides and from behind when manoeuvring etc. Front Assist with City Emergency Brake function has been enhanced with Pedestrian Protection with Emergency Brake function. Park Assist has been further perfected and, when reversing, Manoeuvre Assist complements the rear parking sensors, automatically braking the vehicle as soon as it detects an obstacle and a collision is imminent.

World premiere for the ŠKODA KODIAQ SCOUT and ŠKODA KODIAQ SPORTLINE

Silver-coloured design details including distinctive underbody protection at the front and rear accentuate its rugged and robust appearance. The new 19-inch alloy wheels specially designed for the ŠKODA KODIAQ SCOUT also contribute to its powerful appearance. There is a choice of two petrol and two diesel engines.

The ŠKODA KODIAQ SCOUT stands out thanks to its distinct design features. With a length of 4.70 m – which remains the same as in the base model – up to seven seats, and the largest interior and boot within its segment, the ŠKODA KODIAQ SCOUT impresses in a number of ways. With its modern design, it represents a successful mix of emotiveness and rationality. At the same time, it highlights its robust and powerful character with special features.

The individual design of the ŠKODA KODIAQ SPORTLINE’s exterior and interior emphasises the agility and dynamism of the new model variant above all else. The design reflects the brand’s design identity and represents a good blend of emotiveness and rationality. At the same time, the unique aura of the sporty version is combined with the versatile nature of the ŠKODA KODIAQ. Thanks to a multitude of new details and features such as the sports seats with Alcantara covers, the interior creates an impression of elegance and dynamism. Furthermore, the ŠKODA KODIAQ SPORTLINE comes with features designed to provide pure driving pleasure.

ŠKODA RAPID and ŠKODA RAPID SPACEBACK

The ŠKODA RAPID sets the benchmark for spaciousness amongst its direct competitors. Design and equipment have now been upgraded further. At the front, the bumper’s lower section is new; fog lights shine in a modified design. A refined chrome trim in the bumper’s lower section (standard from the Style trim level upwards) visually connects the fog lights, and the front section appears even wider. The main headlights are now energy-efficient bi-xenon lights and the daytime running lights use LED technology. Light Assist completes the offering and turns on the daytime running lights when the ignition is switched on.

The tail lights, in the C-shape that is typical of the brand, now come with a tinted glass cover, which gives the ŠKODA RAPID’s rear section an even sportier look. Several new designs are available for the wheels and wheel trims. The upgraded ŠKODA RAPID also offers lots of new design features in the interior. You will first notice the decorative inserts in the four doors. The air outlets in the dashboard (from the Ambition trim level upwards), the circular instruments and the control panel for the manual air conditioning and heating have also been redesigned.

The particularly sporty Monte Carlo hatchback comes with LED tail lights as standard and features black roof lining and chrome trim for the air vents in the interior.

1.0-litre TSI engines are available for the upgraded ŠKODA RAPID for the first time. The particularly agile and efficient three-cylinder engines are available in two power versions: 1.0 TSI with 70 kW (95 PS) and 1.0 TSI with 81 kW (110 PS).
In addition to the two 1.0 TSI engines, three more engines are available for the ŠKODA RAPID: a 1.4 TSI with 92 kW (125 PS), a 1.4 TDI with 66 kW (90 PS) and a 1.6 TDI with 85 kW (116 PS).
Occupants in the upgraded ŠKODA RAPID have the option of being ‘always online’ via a Wi-Fi connection. The new ŠKODA Connect services support the driver in many situations and are available for all trim levels as well as for the Amundsen and Swing infotainment systems.

The upgraded ŠKODA RAPID SPACEBACK is presented in Geneva as the particularly sporty Monte Carlo version. Numerous black design elements identify the 4,303-mm-long compact car as an athlete at first glance. These include: the radiator grille, 16-inch alloy wheels in ITALIA design with burnished rims (optional 17-inch alloy wheels), side sills offset in black, black wing mirrors, fog lights with cornering function, tinted rear window and rear side windows (Sunset), black tailgate spoiler and rear bumper in a diffuser look.

Looking at the car’s rear, the longer rear window (now available as standard from the Style trim level upwards) is most eye-catching. Visually, it merges seamlessly into the large tailgate’s upper edge, which is also black. The tinted tail lights match the black accessories.
From the roof lining to the footwell, the colour black also dominates the interior, in part with striking offset features such as the chrome trims around the redesigned air vents in the dashboard. The sports seats are covered in a special, Monte Carlo design fabric (black/grey/red), the three-spoke leather sports steering wheel and the leather gearstick feature red stitching. The pedals are stainless steel, while the decorative strips come in a carbon design. The standard equipment of the ŠKODA RAPID SPACEBACK MONTE CARLO also includes a large panoramic sunroof with a transparent area measuring 1,210 x 780 mm and a manually retractable sunblind. Together with the longer rear window, there is now a glass area that stretches deep into the tailgate.

There is a choice of three petrol and two diesel engines. The particularly efficient and yet dynamic 1.0 TSI with three cylinders is new and comes with 70 kW (95 PS) or 81 kW (110 PS). The 92-kW (125-PS) 1.4 TSI is the most powerful petrol engine. The 1.4 TDI with 66 kW (90 PS) and the 1.6 TDI with 85 kW (116 PS) are the two common-rail turbodiesel engines available.

ŠKODA CITIGO

The revised ŠKODA CITIGO drives up in Geneva with a completely redesigned front section and an upgraded interior. The city runabout, which is available with either three or five doors, impresses with a generous amount of space, an excellent layout, a high level of safety, good handling, new, particularly efficient MPI petrol engines and the attractive value for money that is typical of the brand.
As a result of the revisions, the ŠKODA CITIGO has grown by 34 mm to a length of 3,597 mm. Due to its generous wheelbase measuring 2,420 mm, the interior ensures sufficient space even for the passengers in the rear. The boot capacity of 251 l, which can be increased to 959 l by folding down the rear seats, is one of the largest in the segment.

The completely revised front section features a new bonnet, a new radiator grille shape in ŠKODA’s characteristic design, modified bumpers and upgraded fog lights – a package that creates a fresh, young look. Tinted tail lights (from the Ambition trim level upwards) characterise the modified rear section. In the Style and Ambition trim levels, the roof and the wing mirrors are available in white or black, independent of the body colour.

The headlights feature LED daytime running lights (as standard for Ambition, Style and Monte Carlo – optional for the Active trim level). The fog lights come with an optional cornering function, which lights up the area the vehicle is turning into on junctions with poor visibility. Redesigned 15-inch alloy wheels in silver or anthracite and the new Kiwi Green body colour can be chosen for an individual exterior design.

After the revisions, the ŠKODA CITIGO’s interior is even more refined and functional. The instrument cluster with speed indicator, rev counter and fuel gauge comes in a new design and is available in two different versions. Sports seats ensure good lateral support, radio and telephone can be operated on the optional multifunction leather steering wheel without the driver having to remove their hands. The new Climatronic automatic climate control ensures pleasant temperatures at all times.

A choice of three modern three-cylinder engines is available for the ŠKODA CITIGO – two petrol engines delivering 44 kW and 55 kW, and a natural gas variant offering 50 kW. The front-, transverse-mounted engine with a 1.0-litre capacity drives the front wheels. Despite its small capacity, the powertrain impresses thanks to high torque with low noise levels and high efficiency.
The ŠKODA CITIGO MONTE CARLO has a sporty, rally-style design. It features a lowered sports chassis, front and rear spoilers, and specially designed 15-inch alloy wheels and with its black styling borrowed from motorsports, it evokes memories of the Czech brand’s successful showing at the World Rally Championship. The predominantly black interior with seats that were specially designed for this model also gives a sporty and dynamic impression.

The sporty variant, available with three or five doors, is powered by either a 44-kW (60-PS) or a 55-kW (75-PS) petrol engine. For the CNG variant, a powerful 1.0 MPI engine with a power output of 50 kW (68 PS) is available. The model therefore meets the taste of those customers who like a dynamic design even in cars with smaller engines.

ŠKODA FABIA with new 1.0 TSI engine

The third generation of the ŠKODA FABIA impresses with a dynamic and emotive design, a large amount of interior space, innovative safety, comfort and infotainment systems‚ and numerous ‘Simply Clever’ features. The ŠKODA FABIA MONTE CARLO presented at the Geneva International Motor Show styles itself as the lifestyle-oriented variant with a sporty touch. Besides offset, black body elements, red accents on the sports seats and centre console, sports pedals with a stainless-steel finish, and Black Cube decor, this version provides an extremely comprehensive list of standard equipment.

A new three-cylinder engine is available in two power variants. Thanks to its compact construction and aluminium crankcase, it weighs approximately ten kilograms less than the 1.2-litre engine it is replacing. Its aluminium pistons and the connecting rods are so well balanced that the engine runs in a particularly smooth and refined manner with very little friction. Thanks to an increase in injection pressure to 250 bar, both power variants of the new 1.0-litre engine achieve a reduction in fuel consumption of up to 6 per cent.
The power output of the three-cylinder engine’s entry-level variant is 70 kW (95 PS). Just like its 1.2-litre predecessor, the second engine delivers 81 kW (110 PS); however, its torque, has increased to 200 Nm.
