ŠKODA OneApp: unique connectivity, broad range of functions

› Real-time driving data, driving stats, logbook and other features available in one  application
› Innovative functions for analysing driving style, checking vehicle status, navigation and entertainment

Mladá Boleslav, 29 June 2017 – Using the new smartphone application ŠKODA OneApp, useful information such as fuel consumption, driving dynamics, navigation and service information can be displayed and managed on the screens of smartphones and also the infotainment system. The driver can leave their smartphone in one of the ŠKODA’s storage compartments and see and go through the ŠKODA OneApp’s functions with ease on the large touch-screen display.

With the smartphone application ŠKODA OneApp, ŠKODA reaches a new level of connectivity between the car and smartphone. The app uses SmartLink+ technology to share and display selected functions and information from the car via the ŠKODA infotainment system or smartphone screen. Once the app has been installed on the phone, it enables access to the wide spectrum of functions ranging from accessing relevant engine and vehicle data or information about the weather. For example, ŠKODA drivers can use the ‘advisor’ function to analyse their driving style and learn how to save fuel by driving more efficiently. In terms of driving dynamics, speed and navigation information, the ŠKODA OneApp supports the driver in every situation and provides them with relevant information regarding modern mobility. The ŠKODA OneApp logbook feature, for example, guarantees complete traceability for all past trip records. Streaming music libraries are planned for future versions.

The car and smartphone can be easily connected via USB or WiFi with the navigation systems Amundsen and Columbus. The ŠKODA OneApp can be activated and controlled either via the smartphone screen or the vehicle’s infotainment system – using your fingertip. This means that with just one application, an array of digital services can be accessed that surpass all previously available in-car apps. The ŠKODA OneApp is available to download free of charge from the AppStore or Google Play and can be used in all ŠKODA vehicles built after June 2016 that are equipped with SmartLink and USB, or have SmartLink+ and connect to the smartphone via USB or WiFi.

The most important features of the new ŠKODA OneApp at a glance:

REAL-TIME DRIVING DATA
This function records the car’s performance parameters during your journey and allows information about driving dynamics, rpm, acceleration, fuel consumption and speed to be accessed in real time. The number of instruments is complemented by additional displays on the in-car monitor featuring graphical representations of the figures – for example, for torque, average fuel consumption or lateral acceleration when cornering in a sporty manner.

DRIVING STATS
Using the ŠKODA OneApp, ŠKODA drivers can access a wealth of stored driving data to analyse their driving style in detail. The statistics provide important indicators for making optimal use of the car’s performance and to increase the efficiency of future journeys. The ŠKODA OneApp also keeps personal bests, such as lowest consumption or highest efficiency.

LOGBOOK
This feature allows drivers to view precise and reliable trip data. The Logbook function helps to make mileage reimbursement hassle-free and shows the number of kilometres officially or privately driven in chronological order.

POI & NAVIGATION
With different partners ŠKODA provides OneApp users with navigation information. User can very easily find Points of Interest (POI) in OneApp environment and send it directly to integrated navigation or to partner navigation applications. Navigation information could be thanks to them based also on satellite images. This realistic display of the surrounding area could make orientation easier in many situations.

In addition to POI in the area, all nearby petrol stations are also displayed on the map and, depending on the availability of information from the vendor; even current fuel prices are compared. When showing prices, the system also knows whether the car requires diesel or petrol. In addition, it displays the most convenient and fastest route to the selected petrol station.

ŠKODA KAROQ ready for the first stage of the Tour de France

› The Czech car manufacturer supports teams from South Africa, the Netherlands and Belgium during the time trial in Düsseldorf
› ŠKODA’s compact SUV is used to transport spare parts and is equipped with radio equipment
› More than 250 support and service vehicles from the ŠKODA at the 104th edition of the Tour de France
› Altogether, the ŠKODA fleet will cover around 2.8 million kilometres during the tour

Mladá Boleslav, 29 June 2017 – The Tour de France is ready for the start. On Saturday, the ŠKODA KAROQ will line up at the start as a service vehicle for three teams. The new compact SUV is supporting three teams during the 14-kilometre time trial in Düsseldorf. The vehicles have a few added extras on board such as radio equipment. Wraps on the exterior give the KAROQ models an individual design.

After an absence of 30 years, the Grand Départ of the Tour de France is once again taking place in Germany. The time trial of the first stage leads from the fair-ground in Düsseldorf exhibition centre, along the Rhine to the famous Königsallee boulevard and back along the Rhine to the exhibition centre. A premiere for both Düsseldorf and the ŠKODA KAROQ, because ŠKODA’s new compact SUV will be presenting itself to the public there for the first time ahead of its market launch at the end of the year. Three ŠKODA KAROQs are accompanying teams from South Africa (Team Dimension Data), the Netherlands (Team Lotto NL - Jumbo), and Belgium (Lotto Soudal) as service vehicles during the 14-kilometre time trial. They will not only act as a spare parts depot on wheels for the racing cyclists, but also have the team escorts on board who will be in communication with their cyclists via radio.

The ŠKODA KAROQ SUV’s are all designed in the teams’ colours: Team Dimension Data will be supported by a black, white and green ŠKODA KAROQ, Team Lotto NL - Jumbo’s compact SUV has a yellow and black design, and the Lotto Soudal team will be supported by a red and white KAROQ. The roofs of all of the compact SUV’s bear the slogan “RIDE ON WITH #KAROQ”.

The ŠKODA KAROQ is exceptionally well-suited to use in the third-largest sporting event in the world. The all-rounder is equipped with a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 7-speed DSG transmission and, thanks to the Dynamic Chassis Control (DCC), a choice of three driving modes as well as electromechanical power steering, is as dynamic on the road as the athletes. Five engines with power outputs ranging from 85 kW (115 PS) to 140 kW (190 PS) are available for the new compact SUV. The generous interior dimensions provide plenty of space for both equipment and the tour escorts. Thanks to the built-in Wi-Fi hotspot, the connectivity offering also leaves nothing to be desired: the passengers have the option of being ‘always online’. The KAROQ is also the first ŠKODA to offer a digital instrument cluster, allowing the displays on the dashboard to be individually programmed and presented. Another special feature is the Virtual Pedal. This ‘Simply Clever’ solution allows the tailgate to be opened with a simple foot movement under the rear bumper.

ŠKODA has been the official partner of the world’s largest cycling race for an impressive 14 years. The more than 250 ŠKODA organisation, escort and service vehicles cover a total of around 2.8 million kilometres during the 23-day tour.

The close relationship between the long-established Czech brand and cycling has historical roots. Before vehicle production began in 1905, company founders Václav Laurin and Václav Klement had already been manufacturing bicycles. Today, cycling is a pillar of ŠKODA’s sponsorship strategy. As well as the Tour de France and the Spanish cycling tour “La Vuelta a España”, the Czech car manufacturer supports other international and national cycling races, as well as numerous popular sporting events.

Tour de France endurance test: ŠKODA KAROQ with VarioFlex rear seats has space for up to 1,000 bottles

› Pro team LottoNL - Jumbo puts ŠKODA’s new compact SUV to the test
› ŠKODA KAROQ masters task as a 'water carrier' with flying colours
› VarioFlex backseat provides tremendous variability
› Individual seats can move up to 150 mm or be completely removed
› Maximum storage space increases to 1810 litres

Mladá Boleslav, 18 July 2017 – At this year's Tour de France, the ŠKODA KAROQ performed the role of water carrier. The traditional Czech brand’s new compact SUV served as a service vehicle for three teams during the first stage, including LottoNL-Jumbo. During the Tour, the cycling professionals in the Dutch racing team go through around 1,000 water bottles per week. A welcome challenge for the ŠKODA KAROQ: does the compact SUV’s boot have room for this number of 0.5-litre thirst quenchers known as ‘Bidons’? No problem for the KAROQ, because thanks to the VarioFlex backseat, the SUV boasts great variability and a maximum load space volume of 1,810 litres.

Along the 3540-kilometre route of the Tour de France, the 198 cycling pros accomplish great physical feats each day, and adequate hydration is essential. The racers of the Dutch team LottoNL-Jumbo for example go through between 2,500 and 3,000 Bidons during the Tour, meaning the team needs up to 1,000 of these water bottles a week. The new ŠKODA KAROQ can easily transport the professionals' weekly ration as you can see from the video on ŠKODA Storyboard. The new compact SUV now proves that the 1,000 Bidons fit loosely into the loading space of the emotionally designed KAROQ. The boot volume of the 4.38-metre-long ŠKODA KAROQ is an impressive 521 litres with the rear seats in their default position; the optional VarioFlex seats allow for even greater variability. The system consists of three separate rear seats that can each be adjusted or completely removed. This provides more space in the interior or greater storage space as required. If for example, the two outer seats are shifted 150 millimetres forward, the storage space increases to 588 litres. The system also offers many other combinations for passengers and luggage.  For instance, if the centre seat is removed, the side seats can be moved to the centre, providing more shoulder room for passengers in the back.  Another advantage is the backrest incline of the individual rear seTour de France endurance test: ŠKODA KAROQ with VarioFlex rear seats has space for up to 1,000 bottles18.7.2017 | category: Models › Pro team LottoNL - Jumbo puts ŠKODA’s new compact SUV to the test› ŠKODA KAROQ masters task as a 'water carrier' with flying colours› VarioFlex backseat provides tremendous variability › Individual seats can move up to 150 mm or be completely removed › Maximum storage space increases to 1810 litres ŠKODA KAROQ with VarioFlex rear seats has space for up to 1,000 bottles  ŠKODA KAROQ with VarioFlex rear seats has space for up to 1,000 bottles Mladá Boleslav, 18 July 2017 – At this year's Tour de France, the ŠKODA KAROQ performed the role of water carrier. Mladá Boleslav, 18 July 2017 – ŠKODA has continued to grow in the first half of the year. The long-established Czech brand recorded 585,000 deliveries to customers worldwide in the first six months – thus surpassing last year’s record result by 2.8 per cent (January to June 2016: 569,400 vehicles). 105,200 deliveries in June are also an all-time peak in sales (June 2016: 98,800 vehicles). "Having delivered well over half a million cars, we have achieved the strongest half-year in ŠKODA's history," says ŠKODA CEO Bernhard Maier, adding: "Our SUV campaign is proving effective. The high demand for the ŠKODA KODIAQ has exceeded our expectations and confirms that we are on the right path. We will continue to strengthen our position in this crucial segment with the new ŠKODA KAROQ compact SUV."

With 45,900 deliveries to customers in June, ŠKODA recorded an increase of 2.1 per cent in Western Europe (June 2016: 45,000 vehicles). In the first half of the year, the brand improved deliveries by 4.1 per cent to 252,300 vehicles (January to June 2016: 242,500 vehicles). In Germany, ŠKODA’s strongest individual European market, deliveries increased in June by 0.7 per cent to 17,300 vehicles (June 2016: 17,200 vehicles). In the first six months, deliveries in Germany rose by 1.8 per cent to 88,000 units (2016: 86,500 vehicles). ŠKODA achieved double-digit growth from January to June in Italy (13,600 vehicles; +18.4%) and Austria (12,900 vehicles; +13.7%). Deliveries also increased in the United Kingdom (43,500 vehicles; +3.1%), Spain (13,500 vehicles; +2.5%), France (13,400 vehicles; +8.9%), Belgium (11,400 vehicles; +6.7%), Sweden (8,900 vehicles; +8.4%), and the Netherlands (7,700 vehicles; +1.7%).

In the entire first half of the year, growth is similarly strong with 13.0 per cent. ŠKODA delivered 19,300 vehicles in this period (2016: 17,000 vehicles). › ŠKODA SUV wins with the highest score out of 500 import vehicles tested
› 29th award for ŠKODA KODIAQ since market launch in early 2017
› Czech brand wins ‘AUTO TEST Winner’ four times in a row
› ŠKODA SUPERB COMBI completes double success taking second place

Mladá Boleslav, 19 July 2017 – The ŠKODA KODIAQ is ‘AUTO TEST Winner 2017’. With 676 points, the brand’s large SUV achieved the best result out of all the import vehicles tested by the German trade magazine ‘AUTO TEST’ over the past twelve months. ŠKODA has won the award for the fourth time in a row.  Overall, this is the 29th award the ŠKODA KODIAQ has won since its market launch at the beginning of this year. The ŠKODA SUPERB COMBI completes the Czech manufacturer’s double success taking second place in the ‘AUTO TEST’ ranking.

“Only rarely does a new model rise to victory after just being released in this highly competitive environment. The ŠKODA KODIAQ is a real winner,” AUTO TEST makes the exceptional position of ŠKODA’s SUV clear. In the trade journal’s comparative tests, the top version of the ŠKODA KODIAQ with 140 kW (190 hp) 2.0 TDI, direct shift transmission and all-wheel drive went up against similarly equipped competitors.  With 676 points, the brand’s first large SUV scored the best result out of all the import vehicles tested over the past twelve months. The ŠKODA KODIAQ won over the professionals at AUTO TEST in particular with its spaciousness, “Along with high variability, excellent value for money and exceptional handling,” the testers agreed.

The ŠKODA SUPERB COMBI, last year’s winner in the 'AUTO TEST' ranking, finished second with 646 points, just behind the ŠKODA KODIAQ. The brand’s flagship thus completes this double success for ŠKODA. In addition, ŠKODA is celebrating its fourth consecutive victory; in 2015 and 2014, the ŠKODA OCTAVIA triumphed in the import rankings.

Since 2008, AUTO TEST has awarded prizes to the best vehicles of the past twelve months in several categories. Every year, the experts test around 500 cars from all classes, driving more than one million test kilometres to evaluate the models in the categories of vehicle quality, safety, purchase pricing, premiums, operating costs, performance and consumption.

29th award for the ŠKODA KODIAQ
For the ŠKODA KODIAQ, 'AUTO TEST Winner 2017' is already the 29th award since its market launch at the beginning of the year. For the third time, ŠKODA sponsored the Green Jersey for the winner of the points classification, which was won by Michael Matthews this year. All the victory trophies were created by ŠKODA Design and produced by the Czech glass manufacturer Lasvit. While the dimensions of the 60 cm tall, four-kilogram art pieces are always the same, the ŠKODA designers come up with creative new ideas for the surface every year. For this year’s Tour de France, they were inspired by the ŠKODA VISION E: Just as the electric study presented at the Shanghai Auto Show in April, the glass trophies also feature a fascinating emotive design that embodies a modern interpretation of Czech crystal art.

New ŠKODA KAROQ celebrates Tour debut

ŠKODA is one of the main sponsors of the Tour de France. The Czech brand led the way in the cycling classic for the 14th time as the official partner and vehicle partner. In total, the brand provided 250 cars as organization and accompanying vehicles. The fleet included the new ŠKODA KODIAQ SUV, the extensively upgraded ŠKODA OCTAVIA and the ŠKODA SUPERB. As in previous years, the traditional Czech brand’s flagship led the field as the ‘Red Car’. The SUPERB saloon, painted in eye-catching corrida red, has numerous equipment details and technical features, transforming the vehicle into a mobile control centre for Tour Director Christian Prudhomme. These include, among others, the panoramic roof that can be opened at the push of a button from the second row of seats.
As a special highlight, ŠKODA used three new ŠKODA KAROQs, which accompanied three teams as service vehicles, as part of the premiere stage in Düsseldorf. During the three-week deployment, the ŠKODA fleet covered around 2.8 million kilometres. Since 2004, the total mileage of the Tour de France amounts to over 30 million kilometres. A ŠKODA service team prepared the 250 vehicles perfectly for the upcoming stage every day.

Cycling commitment demonstrates ŠKODA’s special relationship with the bicycle ŠKODA's passion for cycling goes back to the beginnings of the company’s history, which started with the bicycle. In 1895 – 122 years ago – Václav Laurin and Václav Klement founded a bicycle manufactory in the Bohemian town of Mladá Boleslav. Ten years later, the Voiturette A became the first automobile of the young company to leave the workshop. In 1925 Laurin & Klement merged with ŠKODA. Today, cycling is a cornerstone of ŠKODA’s sponsorship strategy. In addition to sponsoring the Tour de France and the Spanish Tour ('Vuelta'), the Czech car manufacturer supports other international cycling races, as well as numerous national and international cycling events. Bicycles and accessories are also part of ŠKODA’s extended product range.

ŠKODA AUTO opens automatic warehouse for small-size parts in Kvasiny plant

› Small-size parts will be shelved and transported to the production line automatically
› The migration to AKL is one of ŠKODA AUTO´s biggest logistics projects in its modern history
› ŠKODA AUTO has invested over €8 million, expecting to achieve annual cost savings of more than €1 million
› The new AKL will enhance the efficiency of handling the increasingly diverse types of material

Kvasiny, 25 July 2017 – ŠKODA AUTO has put into operation a new automatic warehouse for small-sized parts (AKL) in its plant in Kvasiny, Czech Republic. The construction of the AKL is one of the biggest logistics projects in the brand´s modern history. ŠKODA AUTO has invested over EUR 8 million in this innovative solution. The Kvasiny-based automatic warehouse for small-sized parts will enhance the efficiency of handling the increasingly diverse types of material and make the on-site logistics processes even more flexible.

“With the new automatic warehouse for small-sized parts opened in Kvasiny, we continue our journey to automating the process of shelving and picking small-size parts at ŠKODA AUTO,” says ŠKODA AUTO Board Member for Production and Logistics Michael Oeljeklaus. “The AKL technology will increase our efficiency and productivity, make our logistics processes more effective, help us reduce material inventories and enhance the ergonomic and occupational-safety parameters of our workplaces.”

The uniqueness of the warehouse lies in the degree of automation. The solution comprises a system of automatic shelving carried out by camera-fitted robots and automatic robot-aided picking, lifting tables and pusher. The robot reloads boxes from the conveyor to the trolley completely automatically without any human intervention.

The Kvasiny plant produces, among the others, the ŠKODA KODIAQ and ŠKODA SUPERB and will soon be launching production of the new ŠKODA KAROQ. In its AKL facility small-size parts are stored in a central location inside the parts warehouse, and the shelving and picking processes are fully automatic. From the AKL the parts are transported directly to the assembly line, using a Just-In-Sequence system, thus in the exact order in which they should be used. The new AKL in Kvasiny offers a capacity of 45,000 small load carriers (KLT).

The construction work in Kvasiny started in January 2016. ŠKODA AUTO has invested over €8 million, expecting to achieve annual cost savings of more than €1 million.

ŠKODA AUTO begins series production of new compact SUV KAROQ at Kvasiny plant

› The compact SUV impresses with an emotive design, an extraordinary amount of space and state-of-the-art technology
› Since 2015, ŠKODA AUTO has invested approximately 11 billion korunas in developing the plant’s SUV production capabilities
› The brand-new, seventh model series will be delivered to customers from October
› With the KAROQ, ŠKODA is continuing to press ahead with its SUV campaign

Mladá Boleslav / Kvasiny, 26 July 2017 – Today the ŠKODA KAROQ rolled off the production line at the Kvasiny plant in the Czech Republic for the first time. The new compact SUV combines the brand-typical emotive and dynamic design with an extraordinary amount of space, new driver assistance systems as well as powerful and highly efficient engines. The first compact SUVs from the long-established Czech company will be delivered to customers this October.

“The start of series production for the new ŠKODA KAROQ is an important milestone for the entire company and, of course, for our workforce at the Kvasiny plant in particular,” said Michael Oeljeklaus, ŠKODA Board Member for Production and Logistics. “Over recent months, the entire team has prepared intensively for our new SUV model going into production,” explained Oeljeklaus.

The brand-new ŠKODA KAROQ, which celebrated its world premiere in Stockholm in mid-May, is a sport utility vehicle with character. Its design, characterised by crystalline elements, is a true representation of the long-established Czech brand’s new SUV design language. The numerous highlights include a boot capacity of up to 1,630 l, full-LED headlights and a freely programmable, digital instrument panel, which is available for the first time in a ŠKODA. Five engine variants are available with power outputs ranging from 85 kW (115 PS) to 140 kW (190 PS). The new ŠKODA KAROQ also impresses with clever specification features such as VarioFlex rear seats and the virtual pedal for hands-free opening of the tailgate.

Kvasiny is one of three ŠKODA production sites in the Czech Republic. With a current workforce of 8,000 people, the plant is the largest industrial employer in the Hradec Králové region. The production facilities have been comprehensively extended and modernised in recent years. Since 2015 alone, ŠKODA AUTO has invested approximately 11 billion korunas in developing the plant’s SUV production capabilities. In the coming years, production capacity will gradually increase to up to 295,000 vehicles per annum.

In addition to the new KAROQ, Kvasiny is currently producing the ŠKODA models SUPERB, SUPERB COMBI and KODIAQ. The first compact SUV of the brand - ŠKODA YETI, was successfully produced in Kvasiny from May 2009 to June 2017. The history of the site dates back more than 80 years. Cars were being produced here as early as the beginning of the 1930s, including the JAWA 700. The first ŠKODA to be produced at the Kvasiny plant was the ŠKODA SUPERB in 1947.

As part of ŠKODA’s 2025 future strategy, the brand will vigorously press ahead with the expansion of its model range in the coming years, with the primary focus on expanding the SUV portfolio. With the start of series production for the ŠKODA KAROQ, the company is now setting the next milestone. The market launch of the new compact SUV will take place this October.

IAA Premiere: The ŠKODA KAROQ’s fully customizable digital instrument panel

› A first for ŠKODA: a freely programmable digital instrument panel
› Four display layouts to choose from in the new ŠKODA KAROQ
› ŠKODA KAROQ celebrates trade fair premiere at Frankfurt Motor Show, and continues brand’s SUV campaign

Mladá Boleslav, 17 August 2017 – A customizable technology is celebrating its premiere in the new ŠKODA KAROQ at the Frankfurt Motor Show. Breaking with analogue tradition, this is the first time ŠKODA has installed a digital instrument panel in the cockpit. Four different layouts are available and can be individually programmed. Passengers also have the option of always being online. ŠKODA Connect offers an automatic emergency call function, navigation in real time and remote access to the vehicle. ŠKODA is continuing its SUV campaign with the ŠKODA KAROQ. The compact SUV can now be ordered in two equipment variants with a choice of five engines.

For the first time, a ŠKODA can be customized with a digital instrument panel. In the ŠKODA KAROQ, four different layouts are available that can be modified as desired: “Classic”, “Digital”, “Infoprofile” and “Reduced”. These four layouts provide the framework for the notifications, and the driver can scroll through the interactive display of the Modular Infotainment Matrix (MIB) to set which notifications appear in which area of the panel and their sizes. Information on the audio system, phone, assistance systems (Lane Assist, Front Assist, etc.) and vehicle status can also be set to appear on the right, left, or in the centre.

The following layout variants can be set in the digital instrument panel:
The classic layout presents both the tachometer and the speedometer as round instruments to the right and left of the display. The area between can be configured – for example with a display of the current entertainment programme or navigation map, which also has a
zoom function.

The digital layout has a main display covering the entire width of the panel – for example with the current entertainment program or navigation map. Above and below, there is still space for small digital displays, for instance, for the current speed, gear recommendation, traffic sign recognition, distance remaining, distance to the next turn on the programmed route or the distance remaining to the destination.

The info profile layout has a large display in the centre, which can display the navigation map, among other things. Additional information can be placed to the left, right, and above the map. The driver may choose to display the current speed, a navigation display with pictograms, gear selection, traffic sign detection (e.g. speed limits, overtaking ban) or total driving time.

The reduced layout shows two large displays – such as the current speed and the distance remaining. Additional basic information can be displayed at the top and bottom of the display. If the route guidance is activated, the navigation arrow will be displayed in the centre.

The ŠKODA KAROQ continues the brand’s SUV campaign, and is now available to order. Two equipment variants are available with Ambition and Style. Customers can also choose between two petrol and three diesel engines. In addition, passengers in the ŠKODA KAROQ have the option of always being online. ŠKODA Connect automatically calls for assistance in the event of an emergency, allows remote access to the vehicle and, if necessary, provides alternative route recommendations.

The ŠKODA KAROQ is celebrating its trade fair premiere at the International Motor Show in Frankfurt. The ŠKODA press conference takes place on 12 September 2017 at 12:00 in hall 3.

European premiere for ŠKODA VISION E concept car at the IAA

› Design of the study from Shanghai has been developed further
› First purely electric ŠKODA concept car
› Two electric motors with a total power output of 225 kW (306 PS)
› Range of up to 500 km, top speed of 180 km/h
› Autonomous driving at level 3 possible
› Connectivity pioneer› ŠKODA VISION E celebrates European premiere at the IAA

Mladá Boleslav, 24 September 2017 – At the IAA (12-24 September), ŠKODA is presenting its first purely electrically driven concept car that can drive autonomously at level 3 – the VISION E. The design has been developed once more following the world premiere in Shanghai. The study goes one step further into the digital future and it is a connectivity pioneer. The most eye-catching design features are the absence of a B-pillar and the opposed-opening doors. Typical of ŠKODA are the generous amount of space, the modern assistance systems and numerous ‘Simply Clever’ solutions.

The design of the VISION E study displays distinctive characteristics of the new ŠKODA design language for electric vehicles. The opposed-opening doors and four individual swivel seats are striking features. Wing mirrors are a thing of the past – cameras relay what is happening around the car onto screens. The VISION E deliberately forgoes the B-pillar in favour of an even more generous feeling of space. Compared to the vehicle from the world premiere in Shanghai, the front has been developed further and now has even more character.

With the VISION E, ŠKODA is taking a big step into the digital future. The first electrically driven concept vehicle for autonomous driving in the company’s history shows a new level of connectivity. In addition to the dashboard screen and the central touchscreen display, which allows the driver and front passenger to read and operate all ŠKODA Connect functions and services, every occupant has their own display at their disposal. Using touchscreens, numerous convenience details such as vehicle data and entertainment can be operated. A Phonebox that charges smartphones inductively is integrated into each door. At the same time, the box serves as an interface that allows passengers to access their mobile devices’ personal settings, data and information conveniently on the individual touchscreen displays.
Many further features signal that the future is already here. The infotainment systems can be operated using voice and gesture controls, for example. Cameras monitor the driver all the time and check on their fitness and alertness using Eye Tracking. The Driver Alert system warns the driver of tiredness. The VISION E even comes with a digital doctor: the heart rate monitor slows the vehicle down automatically, should the driver experience any health problems. Just like in many ŠKODA production models, the VISION E occupants are of course ‘always online’ thanks to a Wi-Fi hotspot and LTE module.

With a length of 4,668 mm, a width of 1,924 mm and a height of 1,591 mm the VISION E exudes great presence. Due to the long wheelbase of 2,851 mm and the short front and rear overhangs the technicians were able to create – as is standard with a ŠKODA – an extremely generous and comfortable interior. Due to the concept, there is no transmission tunnel which creates a ŠKODA-typical generous amount of space in the front and the rear.

Electric motors with a total power output of 225 kW (306 PS) drive all four wheels of the concept car. The range of up to 500 km and the top speed of 180 km/h are impressive. The VISION E allows for autonomous driving at level 3. On motorways, the autopilot system enables the concept car to autonomously accelerate, steer, brake and even avoid obstacles. The Car Park Autopilot finds free parking spaces and directs the vehicle there automatically. The VISION E is charged inductively.
The ŠKODA VISION E celebrates its European premiere at the IAA in Frankfurt. The ŠKODA press conference takes place at midday on 12 September 2017 in pavilion 3.
