ŠKODA strengthens commitment to cycling: New official partner of the Green Jersey in the Tour de France and Vuelta

› Jersey partnership under ŠKODA’s sponsorship of both Races
› Green Jersey: Award for best sprinter
› Solidarity: ŠKODA official partner to Tour de France since 2004
› Tradition: ŠKODA’s success story began with bicycle construction in 1895

Mladá Boleslav, 23 March 2015 – ŠKODA is now the new official partner of the green jersey for the best sprinter in both the Tour de France and Tour of Spain (La Vuelta). Previously, ŠKODA had sponsored the White Jersey for best young rider in the Tour de France, and ŠKODA had not sponsored any jerseys in the Vuelta.  By sponsoring the Green Jerseys in both cycling races, the Czech carmaker strengthens their strong commitment to international cycling.
Since 2004 ŠKODA has been an official partner, the official vehicle partner and official sponsor of the White Jersey in the legendary Tour de France. This jersey sponsorship is now changing from white to green. ŠKODA has been sponsoring the Tour of Spain (La Vuelta) since 2011, but so far without a jersey partnership.

“ŠKODA is a strong and reliable partner in international cycling competitions,” says Werner Eichhorn, ŠKODA Director of Sales and Marketing. “By sponsoring the Green Jersey in the Tour de France and Vuelta, we are making our commitment even more visible, but the intensive competition for the sprinting title is just one of the great highlights of this race.”

Cycling is a cornerstone of ŠKODA’s sponsorship strategy. In addition to the Tour de France and the Vuelta, the company sponsors eight other international cycling races under A.S.O. agreements. ŠKODA is also committed to supporting cycling at the grassroots level, sponsoring among others the Czech event ‘Bike for Life’, ‘Ride London’ and the ‘Velothon’ in Berlin.

Beyond sponsorship, the brand has, for many years, shown their commitment to cycling through their extensive range of ŠKODA bicycles and wide selection of ŠKODA accessories.

The company’s close connection to cycling has historical roots. The origins of the company lie in the production of bicycles by company’s founding fathers Laurin and Klement in 1895.

ŠKODA expands Kvasiny site; Czech government invests in region’s infrastructure

› Prime Minister Sobotka, Commerce and Industry Minister Mládek and District Governor Franc visit East Bohemian ŠKODA plant
› Memorandum of Cooperation signed in Kvasiny
› Authorities to expand public infrastructure in Kvasiny and Hradec Králové region, and also improve health and education
› By 2018 ŠKODA will have invested 7.2 billion CZK in the Kvasiny site; created 1300 new jobs, and increased capacity to 280,000 vehicles annually
› ŠKODA: heart of the domestic car industry, pillar of the Czech economy

Mladá Boleslav/Kvasiny, 23 March 2015 – The ŠKODA Kvasiny plant and public infrastructure surrounding the East Bohemian site are to be modernized and expanded over the next few years. ŠKODA AUTO today signed a memorandum on cooperation in Kvasiny with the Czech Government and Hradec Králové authorities. The memorandum was officially concluded during a visit from the Czech Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka, Minister of Commerce and Industry Jan Mládek and District Governor of Hradec Králové, Lubomír Franc.
By 2018, ŠKODA will have created up to 1300 new jobs and increased production capacity up to 280,000 vehicles per year at the Kvasiny plant. The company plans to invest around 7.2 billion CZK into the site over the next three years. At the same time, the Czech state and the Hradec Králové region will be making investments into the public infrastructure and improving education and health in the city and region. This agreement clearly underlines the vital importance of the Kvasiny automotive site for the Czech economy.

On behalf of ŠKODA, CEO Prof. Dr. h.c. Winfried Vahland and HR Director Bohdan Wojnar signed the agreement, and Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka and District Governor Lubomír Franc signed on behalf of the Czech state. Alongside the ŠKODA Board Members, visiting the site were high-ranking politicians including the town mayors from Kvasiny, Solnice and Rychnov nad Kněžnou, as well as the KOVO union represented by Union Chief Jaroslav Povšík.

“As an important cornerstone of ŠKODA production network, the Kvasiny plant makes a vital contribution to ŠKODA’s growth strategy,” says CEO Prof. Dr. hc Winfried Vahland. “Over the coming years, ŠKODA will be expanding further in this location, and the company plans to invest more than seven billion crowns by 2018. Before then, Kvasiny will be experiencing the most comprehensive modernization and expansion in its 81-year history. The agreement concluded with Prime Minister Sobotka and the Czech authorities guarantees significantly improved conditions. We are delighted with the planned infrastructure measures, which will give the whole Hradec Králové region a strong boost.”
During the visit, Czech Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka highlighted the importance of stability and social dialogue for the development of the factory and the region: “I am delighted that the government is fulfilling their commitment to attract new investments and generate employment. This new investment in Kvasiny is extremely important, as 1300 new jobs will be created, and it is expected that an additional 400 new jobs will be created at ŠKODA AUTO's subcontractors in the region.”

“ŠKODA AUTO’s investment in Kvasiny is the second largest investment in the current government’s term of office.  This underlines their importance. I am also very positive about the fact that ŠKODA is showing a great deal of social responsibility in the Hradec Králové region with this investment. The government funding totalling two billion crowns is not credited directly to the client’s account, but rather benefits the infrastructure of the district in developing Kvasiny’s industrial zone,” says Jan Mládek, Commerce and Industry Minister of the Czech Republic.

The public investments from the Czech state and Hradec Králové region will be focused on improving the transport infrastructure and technical infrastructure in Kvasiny and Hradec Králové regions. In addition, the education and the healthcare sectors shall be improved. Other companies are also expected to be set up in the area.

Expanding and modernizing the Kvasiny plant shall be financed exclusively by ŠKODA. For this purpose, the manufacturer will be investing around 7.2 billion CZK over the next three years. It was only recently that ŠKODA made extensive investments into the production facilities at Kvasiny. The site began producing the new ŠKODA Superb a few days ago. To launch production, the manufacturer made investments into new production technologies, assembly and logistics areas. Around 1.7 billion CZK went into car body production alone.

Kvasiny is one of ŠKODA’s three production facilities in the Czech Republic, where around 4500 people are currently employed. This makes the plant one of the largest employment centres in the Hradec Králové region. Alongside the ŠKODA Superb, the ŠKODA Yeti and Roomster models currently run off the plant’s production lines. 166,200 ŠKODA vehicles were produced at Kvasiny in 2014. The automobile factory was founded 81 years ago, and ŠKODA vehicles have been rolling off the lines there since 1947.

The expansion of the Kvasiny site over the coming years underlines the Czech production site’s great importance for ŠKODA. As the largest industrial employer in the country ŠKODA is the heart of the Czech automotive industry. In 2014, the company recorded a turnover of 317 billion CZK.

ŠKODA AUTO currently employs 25,000 people in the Czech Republic. A further 150,000 work at suppliers to ŠKODA. In their Czech home market, ŠKODA operates production sites at Mladá Boleslav (main plant), as well as Kvasiny and Vrchlabí. The company is continuously investing in their Czech sites to strengthen their market position in Europe. Since 1991, ŠKODA has invested 300 billion CZK into the manufacturing processes and factories in the country.

Lights out! - ŠKODA takes part in ‘Earth Hour’

› ŠKODA takes part in global environmental event for the third time
› 20 ŠKODA locations in the Czech Republic turn lights out for one hour
› ‘Earth Hour’ on 28 March, 20:30-21:30; for environmental awareness

Mladá Boleslav, 29 March 2015 – Last Saturday (28 March) marked the third time that ŠKODA AUTO had taken part in the annual ‘Earth Hour’. The global environmental event involves switching the lights out for one hour at selected locations around the world. By promoting this event the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) aims to increase awareness about environmental protection.

The lights were switched out for an hour at 20 ŠKODA sites on 28 March at 20.30. The majority of the lights went out around the entrance gates at the main factory in Mladá Boleslav, as well as at the Customer Centre and the Service Centre in Kosmonosy. The illuminated logos and factory gates at the Vrchlabí and Kvasiny plants were also in the dark for an hour.

The ‘Earth Hour’ event was started in 2007 by the WWF, one of the largest international conservation organizations. The point of turning off the logo illumination at the company buildings for 60 minutes was to raise awareness about the amount of energy we use and to strengthen people’s positive attitude towards environmental protection.

By participating in the ‘Earth Hour’, the Czech car manufacturer emphasises the high importance of the issue of environmental protection for the company. Sustainability and environmental protection are an integral part of ŠKODA’s corporate strategy.

This primarily involves producing fuel-efficient, economical vehicles under the GreenLine label, and the selected Green tec technologies in the manufacturer’s portfolio. The brand currently has 107 models on the market with emissions under 120 g CO2/km, of which 25 emit less than 100 g CO2/km.

The carmaker combines all their environmental measures under the umbrella of the ‘GreenFuture’ strategy. In addition to designing and constructing more efficient vehicles, ŠKODA places particular emphasis on using resources economically in their manufacturing techniques. The third pillar of ‘GreenFuture’ is environmental protection in the ŠKODA distribution network.

Even ŠKODA employees devote some of their free time to activities promoting the environment. Since 2007, ŠKODA has planted a tree for every car sold in the Czech Republic. So far, around 480,000 trees have been planted in the country.

Emotional, modern, dynamic: ŠKODA Fabia honoured with ‘Red Dot Award’

› Excellent: coveted 'Red Dot Award: Product Design' for the new Fabia
› International vote: expert panel praised the Fabia’s striking design language
› ŠKODA Fabia: balanced proportions, emotional design
› Success: eighth Red Dot Award for ŠKODA

Mladá Boleslav, 30 March 2015 – Prestigious award for the new ŠKODA Fabia: The all-new, redesigned small car has received the converted ‘Red Dot Award’ for its outstanding product design. The ‘Red Dot Award’ is presented annually by a top-level international panel of experts. With 4,928 submissions by 1,994 participants from 56 countries this year alone, the ‘Red Dot Award: Product Design’ is of the world's largest and most internationally recognised product competitions. The third generation ŠKODA Fabia is now the eighth ŠKODA model series to have been awarded the prize.

The new ŠKODA Fabia has been available on the European market since November 2014. The all-new, emotional and strong appearance excited the judges. With its sharper design, the popular small car is more sporty, distinctive and expressive than the previous model, and features balanced proportions, crystalline shapes and sharp lines. The new ŠKODA Fabia is a young small car with character; passionate, modern and customizable. This ŠKODA Fabia is also the first series-production ŠKODA to sport design elements from the ŠKODA VisionCshow car.

ŠKODA’s new design language also won over the Red Dot Award jury. The new Fabia had to undergo detailed examination by a high-ranking, 38-member panel of experts, consisting of design professors, designers and journalists from 25 countries. They evaluated the vehicle’s design based on selected evaluation criteria, such as degree of innovation, functionality, ergonomics and durability. Ecological compatibility and clarity of function were included in the overall assessment as well.

“The new Fabia is more dynamic and full of character than ever before, and is the most emotive Fabia ever,” says Chief Designer Jozef Kabaň. “We are delighted that the new design language has won over the experts and customers alike. Winning the Red Dot Award confirms that we are on the right track in developing ŠKODA’s design language.”

In addition to the design, the new ŠKODA Fabia sets standards in its segment in terms of technology and functionality. The small car is exceptionally eco-friendly and features top technology from higher vehicle classes. ŠKODA is well known for above-average amount of space and this model is no exception, with the largest boot in the small-car segment and the highest practicality, featuring up to 19 ‘Simply Clever’ solutions.

The perfect blend of emotion and functionality has won over the market: Over the first two months of 2015, deliveries of the Fabia increased 11.7% in Western Europe and 32.7% in Central Europe.

This is the eighth time that ŠKODA has won the Red Dot Award. The brand’s first model to receive the prize was the ŠKODA Octavia Combi (estate) in 2006. In 2007 the coveted seal of quality went to the ŠKODA Roomster, and in 2008 the second generation ŠKODA Fabia won the award. In 2010 there were two models to receive the Red Dot: the ŠKODA Yeti and ŠKODA Superb Combi (estate). In 2013 the design award went to the compact saloon ŠKODA Rapid, and finally last year to the ŠKODA Rapid Spaceback.

Racy motor yacht 'ŠKODA VisionSea' ŠKODA takes to the water

› Premiere: ŠKODA presents their first motor yacht
› Wow-factor: ‘ŠKODA VisionSea’ sets the pulse racing
› Spectacular design; Elements from the ‘ŠKODA VisionC’ coupé study
› Simply Clever: Foldable water-ski hooks, lifejacket holders and more
› Powerful and efficient: First ŠKODA hybrid engine
› Growth Strategy: ŠKODA enters new, dynamic business sector

Mladá Boleslav, 01 April 2015 – Under their growth strategy, the Czech car manufacturer, ŠKODA, has entered a new business sector. With the ‘ŠKODA VisionSea’, the brand presents their first thoroughbred motor yacht. The spectacular water sport racer designed in Mladá Boleslav is sure to make the hearts of recreational boating fans beat faster!

The ‘ŠKODA VisionSea’ is taking ŠKODA’s passion to the water. The ŠKODA design team has created a razor-sharp, 10-metre-long water bullet, setting new standards in the speedboat segment with its expressively dynamic form, precision and appearance. The green-lacquered yacht has borrowed several design elements from the ‘ŠKODA VisionC’ coupé study, such as the line of the cabin windows rising gently towards the rear. The exciting light and shadow contrasts from the side view draws together the razor-sharp waistline. All the surfaces culminate in three-dimensional sculptures, giving the boat its independent and powerful character. The striking tapered bow is somewhat reminiscent of a shark. The inward embossing in the stern also sets accents particularly pleasing on the eye.  The first media reports have been extremely positive, calling the innovation a ‘radical interpretation of the ŠKODA VisionC study’.

The characteristics that have made ŠKODA cars so popular have also been incorporated into their most recent business venture – the power yacht combines high functionality with an array of ‘Simply Clever’ solutions. The ‘ŠKODA VisionSea’ offers the most legroom in its class and storage options en masse. The lifejackets are stored in practical lifejacket holders under the seats. Standard on-board equipment includes, among other things, a height-adjustable leather steering wheel, two stainless steel bottle holders for 1.5-litre bottles, and an extra storage pocket for your tablet device. The pivotal water-ski hooks are also outrageously practical. From the bridge, the hooks can be released, extended and retracted again at the touch of a button. This means that nothing will slide around come high speeds or waves – and to make doubly sure, you will also have special cargo elements and anti-slip mats at your disposal.  The specially designed sun visor coupled with an anti-dust chamois ensures that you will always have a clear view.

The Czech manufacturer has left nothing to be desired from the engines, propelling the ‘ŠKODA VisionSea’ to the top of its class. The sporty motor yacht is equipped with the latest engine technology on board, and is ŠKODA’s first model an ultra-modern hybrid drive. Ensuring your unlimited sailing pleasure, the 132 kW / 180 hp turbo petrol direct injection and an e-motor with an output of 198 kW / 270 hp. These two engines set the standard in terms of weight, smooth operation and acceleration and form both a sustainable and dynamic drive unit along with the 6-speed dual-clutch transmission (DSG) specially developed for hybrid models. The ‘ŠKODA VisionSea’ can sail up to 50 nautical miles on the electric motor alone, and the total distance the innovative water sports racer can travel is around 980 nautical miles on both engines combined.

ŠKODA VisionSea just an April Fools’

› ŠKODA sets the record straight: ‘ŠKODA VisionSea’ motor yacht not real
› Fact: New ŠKODA Superb features design elements from pioneering ‘ŠKODA VisionC’ study

Mladá Boleslav, 2 April 2015 – ŠKODA does not have any plans to start manufacturing speed boats. The press release published on 1 April, announcing the launch of a ‘ŠKODA VisionSea’ motor yacht was an April Fools’ joke. The carmaker would like to clarify this once again today.

Several points raised in the press realises were, however, true; in addition to the functional strengths associated with the brand, ŠKODA’s model range is becoming more emotionally appealing with an increased emphasis on modern and expressive designs.  The car manufacturer has not ruled out expanding the model range even further. However, ŠKODA’s growth strategy will not be extended into the field of speed boat construction.

The Czech brand’s new, expressive design language, however, is an impressive reality.  The new ŠKODA Superb has revolutionised the brand’s design. ŠKODA’s new flagship incorporates several design elements from the ‘ŠKODA VisionC’ show car into series production.  The result is a model that will make other motorists look twice – more clear-cut, confident and expressive than ever. At the same time, the new Superb demonstrates the manufacturer’s ability to build on their fundamental values of spaciousness and practical solutions.

The launch of the new ŠKODA Superb marks a highlight in the most comprehensive model campaign of the Czech carmaker’s 120-year history. The model will be available on European markets in June this year.

ŠKODA to celebrate its 120th birthday by showcasing 15 unique vintage cars at Techno Classica in Essen

› ŠKODA is celebrating a major anniversary by presenting some of its vintage gems
› Fascination: from the first bicycle to the sports-tuned ŠKODA 130 RS
› Tradition: ŠKODA is one of the world's oldest car manufacturers

Mladá Boleslav, 14 April, 2015 – ŠKODA is celebrating its 120th birthday this year, a good reason for staging an impressive presentation at this year's Techno Classica in Essen. The brand will present 15 fascinating gems at this popular vintage car event: from its first bicycle and selected motorcycles branded after the names of the company founders, Laurin & Klement, to legendary ŠKODA-branded luxury limos and elegant convertibles and the sports-tuned 130 RS of 1975.

"ŠKODA is one of the world's oldest car manufacturers," says Andrea Frydlová, Head of the ŠKODA Museum in Mladá Boleslav, and goes on to say: "We are going to present a total of 15 milestone-setting products at the Techno Classica." The ŠKODA stand is situated in Hall No. 7 of the Essen Exhibition Centre, and the Czech-based brand will present its products together with ŠKODA AUTO Deutschland, its German importer. The Techno Classica is scheduled for 15 - 19 April, 2015.

ŠKODA's beginnings date back to December 1895 when mobility pioneers Václav Laurin & Václav Klement started producing "Slavia" bicycles in Mladá Boleslav. By showcasing the Slavia bicycle to have been produced by L&K, ŠKODA will take the Techno Classica visitors back to its roots.

Four years later, in 1899, L&K started manufacturing motorcycles. The event in Essen will see three of the brand's first products: the L&K Typ B (1900), L&K Typ L 80 (1903) and L&K Typ CCR (1905). L&K motorcycles boasted progressive technologies in their time. For example, the L&K CCR with a two-litre, 4,5 HP V-engine had a maximum speed of 85 km/h.

L&K's car production started in 1905. The first four-wheel L&K vehicle was the legendary Voiturette Typ A. The next milestone-setting L&K model was the L&K Typ S of 1911, one of the vehicles to be presented in Essen. Fitted with a water-cooled two-cylinder 7 HP engine (1,100 cm3), this vehicle will also appear in the Concours d’Elégance as part of this year's Schloss Bensberg Classics. The Laurin & Klement Typ So/200 of 1921 boasts impressive shapes and an attractive turquoise body.

In 1925 L&K merged with ŠKODA, a Pilsen-based machinery group. To mark the 90th anniversary of this merger, ŠKODA will showcase an L&K ŠKODA Typ 110 Phaeton of 1928 at the Techno Classica. This model was the pinnacle of the Mladá Boleslav-based automotive production in its time, and is part of the first line (L&K ŠKODA Typ 110) in the brand's history to have achieved four-digit sales. By the way, this model bore the logos of both brands, L&K and ŠKODA.

Between the World Wars ŠKODA built a reputation as a manufacturer of prestigious upper-class limousines. Late 1934 saw the launch of the first ŠKODA Superb: the ŠKODA 640 Superb was a 5.5-metre-long limousine fitted with a six-cylinder 55 HP engine (2,492 cm3), and its name was inspired by the Latin word "superbus" (lovely, excellent, magnificent, etc.). Since then the Superb has been a synonym for top-quality cars made in Mladá Boleslav. The two-colour vehicle to be presented in Essen (Year 1 of the Superb production) is one of the few cars of its type that have been preserved to date. The brand produced a total of 201 ŠKODA 640 Superbs.

Also dating back to the 1930s, the ŠKODA Popular Sport Coupé "Malá dohoda" is a sports-car rarity - the company only produced three vehicles of this type in 1937. Its name, "Malá dohoda", refers to the special occasion on which this car was used. In 1937 the vehicle won a rally that went through Czechoslovakia, Yugoslavia and Romania, the countries that were parties to the pact known as the Little Entente ("Malá dohoda" in Czech).

May 1946, shortly after the end of World War II, saw the launch of the ŠKODA Popular's successor, the ŠKODA 1101 Tudor, and the Techno Classica visitors can look forward to seeing a ŠKODA 1102 Tudor convertible of 1950 that draws massive attention at vintage-car events throughout Europe. Another car guaranteed to fascinate the event visitors is a ŠKODA Felicia of 1960. This legendary sports-tuned, elegant two-seater convertible was produced between 1959 and 1964 (about 15,000 vehicles in total), and vintage car fans have never stopped loving it.

ŠKODA is proud of its 120-year history of automotive excellence, as well as 114 years of its motorsport efforts, and the Techno Classica in Essen will see a unique car that appeared on the motorsport scene 40 years ago: the ŠKODA 130 RS. The brand will mark the 40th birthday of this model by showcasing four 130 RSs in total: two rally cars and two circuit-racing vehicles.

The new ŠKODA Superb and its legendary predecessor: Exhibition at ŠKODA Museum

› Exclusive: ŠKODA’s new flagship on show at ŠKODA Museum in Mladá Boleslav
› Vintage car from mid-1930s shows brand’s tradition in luxury vehicles
› Legendary cars from the heart of Europe demonstrate Bohemian engineering skill

Mladá Boleslav, 17 April 2015 – The ŠKODA Museum in Mladá Boleslav will be dedicated to a special exhibition featuring the new ŠKODA Superb between 21 April and 3 May 2015. The two-week exhibition ‘ŠKODA Superb: An Icon of Luxury’, will give visitors the opportunity to immerse themselves in the present achievements and historical tradition of the Czech car manufacturer. The great predecessor to the Superb from the 1930s will be on display alongside the brand’s new flagship.

Following its world premiere in Prague's Karlín Forum and exhibition debut at the International Motor Show in Geneva, the new generation of the ŠKODA Superb is now on public display at the modern and multifunctional ŠKODA Museum in Mladá Boleslav. “Visitors can look forward to an exclusive exhibition, combining the innovative technology and modern design of ŠKODA’s new flagship with the nobility of the legendary ŠKODA cars from the 1930s,” says Andrea Frydlová, Director of the ŠKODA Museum.

The ŠKODA Superb has always been the benchmark for the brand’s performance. That is why launching the new ŠKODA Superb is a particularly important event for the brand. ŠKODA’s history shines with an array of magnificent vehicles. In designing their new flagship, ŠKODA has made a direct connection to this rich tradition.

ŠKODA is one of the world’s longest-established car companies. Their expertise is based on 120 years of tradition and experience in vehicle manufacture, Bohemian craftsmanship and engineering skill, the experience of a knowledgeable workforce and the mastery of the Volkswagen Group.

Heritage and future of the brand

Under the brand’s current model campaign, the new ŠKODA Superb is the first car to make a direct connection to the ŠKODA’s exclusive pre-war vehicles: ŠKODA Superb limousines were truly exceptional automobiles in the 30s and 40s. Upholding this tradition is a great commitment for ŠKODA. The company’s founding fathers, Václav Laurin and Václav Klement, worked under the principle that ‘only the best is good enough for our customers.’ This is now a matter of course for ŠKODA – the new ŠKODA Superb personifies this message today.

This car demonstrates where ŠKODA stands today, proves the design and engineering expertise of the brand, and shows their dynamic development. Customers’ demands are increasing, and consistently better ŠKODA cars are winning over new customers to the brand.  A ŠKODA will always offer something special in its market segment. This is particularly true of ŠKODA’s flagship – the new ŠKODA Superb.

Inspired by the Latin word ‘superbus’ meaning ‘proud’ or ‘stately’, a ŠKODA model bearing the Superb badge first rolled into the spotlight in late 1934. The 5.50-meter-long ŠKODA Superb 640 is powered by a 55 hp straight six-cylinder 2,492 cc engine. A total of five ŠKODA Superb types were produced between 1934 and 1949: ŠKODA 640 Superb (1934-1936), ŠKODA Superb (Type 902; 1936-1937), ŠKODA Superb (Type 913; 1936-1939), ŠKODA Superb OHV (Type 924; 1938-1949) and ŠKODA Superb 4000 (Type 919; 1939-1941). Over 2500 Superbs had been produced by 1949.

In addition to the new ŠKODA Superb, there are many historical automotive gems on display at the museum: the two-tone ŠKODA Superb 640 built in 1935 with a six-cylinder engine is one of the oldest-preserved exhibits, the equally majestic black Superb 3000 OHV produced in 1939 symbolises ŠKODA’s tradition of building prestigious saloons.

The exhibition runs from 21 April to 3 May at the ŠKODA Museum in Mladá Boleslav: 09:00 – 17:00 daily and covered under the usual museum admission prices.

› Dynamic: ŠKODA sales increase 15.6% in the first quarter in China
› Success: more than 1.4 million ŠKODAs sold on the Chinese market since 2007

Mladá Boleslav/Shanghai, 19 April 2015 – A new era is dawning for ŠKODA in China with the new ŠKODA Superb. ŠKODA’s new flagship celebrated its premiere in China today at the Volkswagen Group Night on the eve of the Shanghai Auto Show. As promised a year ago with the ŠKODA VisionC show car, the new ŠKODA Superb has revolutionized ŠKODA’s design language and achieved a whole new dimension in terms of comfort and technology. This shows that the Czech manufacturer’s new top model has what it takes to conquer its segment. At the same time the brand’s traditional values and qualities have been strengthened. As the best ŠKODA of all time, the new Superb represents the climax of ŠKODA’s largest-ever model campaign.

“Eight years after entering the region, ŠKODA is well established on the Chinese market, and now offers a comprehensive range of six models to Chinese customers,” says ŠKODA CEO Prof. Dr. h.c. Winfried Vahland. “The new Superb heralds the dawn of a new era for ŠKODA in China. This fantastic vehicle is a clear demonstration that our vehicles are taking on a completely new meaning in terms of design, modern technology, value and emotional appeal in our strongest individual market – China. The new ŠKODA Superb is an excellent means to meet the growing demands on our brand to offer the best cars that demonstrate the ŠKODA’s values, tradition and future orientation, and increase our desirability at the same time. The new Superb surpasses everything ŠKODA has ever produced, and points to the future of the brand.”

Today, the ŠKODA model range testifies to the brand’s high standards in technology, design and functionality. This combination is drawing many new customers to the brand in China: In 2014, deliveries rose 24% in China to a new sales record of 281,400 vehicles. The manufacturer is now going one decisive step further with the new ŠKODA Superb. The new model will enhance the perception of the brand in China in the direction of more dynamic, modern and emotive designs. In addition to the expressive design language and the confident appearance, the new ŠKODA Superb offers unique qualities in terms of comfort and driving experience. At the same time, this model features ŠKODA’s classic functional strengths. The stronger emotional appeal of the model range and enhancement of the brand will accelerate ŠKODA’s growth in China, where, over the coming years, the manufacturer plans to increase its sales to over half a million vehicles annually.

The new ŠKODA Superb is building on the exclusive and extraordinarily magnificent ŠKODA cars of the 1930s and 1940s. “Our brand’s great tradition is a huge commitment for us,” says Vahland. “This dates back to our founding fathers, Laurin and Klement, who worked according to the conviction that ‘only the best is good enough for our customers.’  The new Superb makes this statement relevant to our time. The vehicle serves as an indication as to where our brand stands today, and clearly shows that we are making advancements.”

Dynamic and elegant design revolution

The new ŠKODA Superb’s expressive design is a statement of perfection and emphasizes the emotional power of the brand. ŠKODA cars have always been great value for money with high functionality and reliability. With the new Superb, ŠKODA is combining these qualities with modern and expressive designs. ŠKODA’s new design language is confident, dynamically elegant and balanced. The new ŠKODA Superb is bringing the exciting design language first seen in the ‘ŠKODA VisionC’ show car to series production.

The new ŠKODA Superb is a racy saloon full of class and passion. Its appearance is powerful, confident and emotive. The wheelbase has increased by 80 mm, at the same time the front overhang has been shortened by 61 mm. This new architecture gives the vehicle elegance and dynamism. From the front to the rear, from the large wheels to the gently sloping roofline, the new model features clear geometry, distinctive contoured surfaces, sculptured shapes, purist precision and elegant lines. The crystalline elements, a tribute to Czech glasswork, can be seen in the finest detail, such as in the red thread – a recurring theme running from the interior to the interior. At the same time, the new Superb is presented with improved functional virtues and even more space: form and function combined in perfect unity.

The completely re-interpreted, high-quality interior continues the fundamental design elements from the exterior. This includes an emphasis on horizontal lines that make the already very roomy interior appear yet more spacious and airy. Clean lines, precise workmanship and the application of new, high-quality materials give the interior a new valence.

Upgrade - space and comfort on a completely new level

The ŠKODA Superb sets standards in terms of space and comfort. The model has been in a league of its own since its introduction in China. Compared to the generous dimensions of the current Superb, the relevant interior measurements of the new generation model have increased once again. In addition, the new ŠKODA flagship meets even the highest demands with other new comfort solutions.

“Comfortable throughout – that was our goal in developing the new Superb,” says ŠKODA Development Director, Dr. Frank Welsch. “The result meets the standards of higher classes, offering more space than the predecessor, and at the same time, provides an ambient atmosphere where passengers feel at home.”

The refinements to the interior mainly result from the improved package for the new ŠKODA Superb. The technical advantages of the modular transverse matrix (MQB) have enabled the extension of the wheelbase by an amazing 80 mm to 2841 mm. The track is wider, 1584 mm at the front and 1572 mm at the rear. These improvements benefit the amount of room available in both the interior and the boot.

The driver and front passenger enjoy plenty of room. The elbow width in the front of the new ŠKODA Superb has increased 39 mm to 1507 mm. The headroom for the driver and front passenger has increased slightly by 3 mm to 991 mm – also a top value.

It is not only the front where passengers will experience a great amount of space; people travelling in the backseat of the latest generation ŠKODA Superb will have even more room than in the predecessor model. Those travelling in the backseat will have a veritable mansion of space exceeding the standard for the class. Moreover, the legroom is absolutely ‘superb’: 157 mm in the rear of the vehicle. The headroom in the backseat is also a benchmark in the segment, which has increased 25 mm to 980 mm. At the same time the elbow width has increased 69 mm to 1520 mm. This means that three adults can easily sit in the backseat very comfortably.

ŠKODA Superb is one of the most popular mid-class cars

The ŠKODA Superb has been at the forefront of ŠKODA’s model range since 2001. To date, the carmaker has delivered more than 700,000 first- and second-generation ŠKODA Superbs around the world. This makes the model one of the most popular vehicles in the automotive mid-class. The ŠKODA Superb has been available on the Chinese market since 2002, generating sales of more than 214.000 of their flagship.

ŠKODA’s success in China

China has been ŠKODA’s largest individual market since 2010. In 2014, the manufacturer’s deliveries on the Chinese market increased 24% to a new record level of 281,400 vehicles. This represents around a quarter of ŠKODA’s total sales last year. In the current year, the signs point to continued growth: By the end of March, ŠKODA’s sales in China had increased 15.6%.

ŠKODA entered the Chinese market in 2007. Since then, around 1.4 million Chinese customers have opted for a ŠKODA. As part of the manufacturer’s activities in China, the company has built up a close partnership with Shanghai Volkswagen.

› Established: more than 1.4 million ŠKODA vehicles sold on the Chinese market since 2007

Mladá Boleslav/Shanghai, 20 April 2015 – New models welcome the dawn of a new era for ŠKODA in China. At the Shanghai Auto Show 2015, the Czech carmaker is presenting the new ŠKODA Fabia and the new ŠKODA Superb for the first time in China. With this double premiere in China, ŠKODA is emphasising their vision of making the brand stronger and more modern, and accelerating growth with the highest quality cars. Over the coming years, ŠKODA plans to increase sales to over 500,000 vehicles annually in China. In the first quarter of 2015, the brand sold 71,700 vehicles on the Chinese market – an increase of 15.6% and a new sales record for this period. ŠKODA also achieved a new sales record in China for the year 2014, delivering 281,400 cars to customers (plus 24%).

“As ŠKODA’s strongest individual market, China is the most important mainstay of our growth strategy alongside Europe,” explains ŠKODA CEO Prof. Dr. h.c. Winfried Vahland. “Since entering the market eight years ago, ŠKODA has made very promising developments on the Chinese market, selling more than 1.4 million vehicles in that time. Now, a new era is beginning for ŠKODA in China with the latest generation Fabia and Superb bringing a new phase of growth. This is what our new ŠKODA Fabia and ŠKODA Superb represent in a special way. Building on ŠKODA’s traditional values of functionality and optimal use of space, these high-quality cars show that the design, value and emotional appeal of our cars have taken on a new meaning. And this is how we plan to inspire our customers in the Middle Kingdom. Over the coming years, we plan to increase our sales in China to over half a million vehicles per year.”

In 2014, ŠKODA first presented the brand’s new design development in the form of the spectacular ŠKODA VisionC show car. “The ŠKODA VisionC was a clear signal for the future direction of the brand. The new Fabia and the new Superb have made this vision a reality,” explains Prof. Vahland. The ŠKODA Fabia is the first series model to sport the new development of the brand’s design language to a more modern and expressive level.
The brand's flagship, the new ŠKODA Superb - the best ŠKODA of all time - is taking a further step towards the future of the brand.

The new ŠKODA Fabia – simply more car – sharp design, spacious, modern technology

The first time the new ŠKODA Fabia will be seen in China is at the Shanghai Auto Show. The small car is modern, dynamic and expressive. At the same time, the third generation features innovative technology, and is more practical and spacious than ever. It is with this combination of emotional appeal, technology and functionality that the new ŠKODA Fabia is setting benchmarks in the small car segment.

Balanced, sporty proportions, crystalline shapes, a striking interplay between light and shadow, precise lines and sharp edges characterize the latest generation of the ŠKODA Fabia. The third generation is 8mm shorter, 90mm wider and 31mm lower than its previous model. In addition, elements from ŠKODA Motorsport also shine through. The new small car looks impressive, showing the brand’s increased emotional appeal and youthful characteristics.

In China, the new Fabia will be available with a choice of two new petrol engines: 1.4 MPI (66 kW) and 1.6 MPI (81 kW). Both engines are available with either manual 5-speed transmission or 6-speed automatic gearbox.

The new ŠKODA Fabia has an impressive amount of room and an even higher level of functionality. The passenger compartment is 21mm wider (front) and 8mm longer than its predecessor. The headroom for the driver and front passenger has increased, although the new Fabia is actually a little flatter in the body. A great number of ‘Simply Clever’ solutions make the new ŠKODA Fabia one of the most practical cars in its segment. The boot has a volume of 330 litres (1150 litres with the rear seat down).

Since entering the Chinese market in 2008, more than 243,800 ŠKODA Fabias have been delivered to customers in the region. In 2014 almost 20,000 Chinese customers opted for ŠKODA’s small car.

The manufacturer plans to build on this success with the third generation of the model. Production of the Fabia for the Chinese market is carried out in association with Shanghai Volkswagen (SVW) at the Anting plant. Its launch date is set for April.

The new ŠKODA Fabia has already been on the European market since November 2014. The car has been doing exceptionally well: In the first three months of 2015, deliveries in Western Europe have increased by 1.6% and in Central Europe by 15.3%. In addition, the new ŠKODA Fabia has won 11 national and international awards.

The new ŠKODA Superb – the best ŠKODA of all time

ŠKODA has been catapulted to a new level with the new ŠKODA Superb. The new flagship will be celebrating its Chinese premiere in Shanghai. The new Superb is the best ŠKODA of all time and is the climax of ŠKODA’s largest-ever model campaign. “The new ŠKODA Superb is an excellent means to meet the growing demands on our brand to offer the best cars that demonstrate the ŠKODA’s values, tradition and future orientation, and increase our desirability at the same time. The new Superb surpasses everything ŠKODA has ever produced, and points to the future of the brand,” explains Prof. Vahland.

ŠKODA’s designers and developers have brought the new ŠKODA Superb to a new level in terms of design and technology. The ŠKODA Superb now features modern and emotive designs, above-average interior space and innovative MQB technologies developed within the Volkswagen Group. ŠKODA’s flagship also has many qualities previously reserved for higher vehicle classes, bringing the car to the top-end of the automotive mid-class.

“The new ŠKODA Superb brilliantly combines the values that have made ŠKODA so popular with new demands on our brand – beauty, technology and functionality come together harmoniously,” says Prof. Vahland. “The experience and passion of 120 years of ŠKODA manufacturing have gone into developing the third generation of this model. The new ŠKODA Superb is an impressive illustration of the brand’s design and engineering expertise, and is certain to win over customers on the Chinese market, both in the private and business sectors,” the CEO said.

With its modern, expressive design, the new model has taken several exciting design elements from the ŠKODA VisionC show car into series production. The car is powerful, confident and emotive. From the front to the rear, from the large wheels to the gently sloping roofline, the new Superb has balanced proportions, distinctive contoured surfaces, sculptured shapes, purist precision and elegant lines. Crystalline elements, a tribute to Czech glasswork, can be seen in the finest detail, such as in the red thread – a recurring theme running from the exterior to the interior. The interior offers the highest quality in the smallest detail.

Form and function combine in perfect unity. The ŠKODA Superb sets new standards in terms of space and comfort. Compared to the generous dimensions of the previous Superb, the corresponding interior measurements of the new generation model have increased once again. In addition, the new ŠKODA flagship meets even the highest demands with other new comfort solutions.

The ŠKODA Superb has been at the forefront of the Czech carmaker’s model range since 2001. To date, the carmaker has delivered more than 700,000 first- and second-generation ŠKODA Superbs around the world. The second generation of ŠKODA Superb has been available on the Chinese market since 2009 to great success – with 211,000 Chinese customers opting for the flagship.

ŠKODA in China – more than 1.4 million cars sold since 2007

Since entering the Chinese market in 2007, the Czech manufacturer has made positive developments: more than 1.4 million customers have opted for one of the brand’s models in that time. China has been ŠKODA’s largest individual market since 2010. In 2014, the carmaker’s sales in the region rose 24% to a new record level of 281,400 vehicles. This represents around a quarter of ŠKODA’s total sales last year. In the same year, ŠKODA grew twice as fast as the market. All signs point to further growth in 2015: By the end of March, ŠKODA’s sales had increased 15.6% in China. The manufacturer works in close partnership with the Volkswagen Group China and their local business partner Shanghai Volkswagen.

Growth strategy – ŠKODA is picking up the pace

ŠKODA is planning further growth in the most comprehensive model campaign in the company’s 120-year history. The target for the coming years is to sell at least 1.5 million cars annually.

The record sales results of 2014 clearly show how well ŠKODA is doing on the international markets. Last year, ŠKODA sold more than 1 million vehicles for the first time in a single calendar year, with deliveries increasing 12.7% to 1,037,200 vehicles (2013: 920,800 deliveries). In China, the manufacturer grew by 24.0%, in Western Europe by 11.8%, and in Central Europe by 18.5%. ŠKODA’s global market share grew to 1.4% (2013: 1.3%).

ŠKODA’s growth continued seamlessly into 2015. In the first quarter, ŠKODA delivered 265,100 cars to customers worldwide – an increase of 7.2% compared to the same period last year, making it the best quarter for ŠKODA in their corporate history.

Home Game: New ŠKODA Superb is automotive flagship of IIHF Ice Hockey World Championships in Czech Republic

› Premiere for the new flagship: New ŠKODA Superb used for first time at IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship in Czech Republic
› 50 ŠKODAs in Czech national colours: 14 new ŠKODA Superbs and 36 ŠKODA Octavia estates taking officials and guests from A to B
› Cars named after Czech and Czechoslovakian legends in ice hockey
› ŠKODA Powerplay: Shuttles, vehicle presentations, logo placements, jersey advertising for three teams, and smartphone app
› Record: Longest main sponsorship in history of sports world championships; ŠKODA official main sponsor of IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship since 1992

Mladá Boleslav/Prague, 23 April 2015 – ŠKODA will be sponsoring the IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship this year for the 23rd time. However, there is something extra special about 2015: The IIHF Ice Hockey World Championships will be taking place in ŠKODA’s home country – the Czech Republic. In addition, the new ŠKODA Superb will be used as a shuttle vehicle just a few weeks before its official market launch. In Prague today, the company handed over the keys for the official World Championship fleet, consisting of 14 new ŠKODA Superbs and 36 ŠKODA Octavia estates to be used by the IIHF WM Organisation Committee.

The annual fight for the ice hockey crown will be taking place this year between 1 and 17 May in the Czech capital of Prague (O2 arena) and in the Eastern Czech town of Ostrava (ČEZ ARÉNA). ŠKODA has been the official main sponsor of the IIHF Ice Hockey World Championships since 1993. This makes ŠKODA’s commitment the longest main sponsorship in the history of sports world championships. The brand will be able to reach out to around 800 million TV viewers around the world through numerous activities, such as providing the shuttle service and supporting individual national teams.

“Ice hockey is the central pillar of our sponsorship strategy,” says Werner Eichhorn, ŠKODA Board Member for Sales and Marketing. “This year, our commitment is particularly important for us: Firstly, the world championship is taking place in our home country, and secondly, it’s going to be the first time our new flagship – the new ŠKODA Superb – will be used at an official event. This is going to be a huge event on home turf where we’ll be waving the flag high and highlighting the strength of the brand.”

In providing the comprehensive shuttle service, ŠKODA will be chauffeuring officials and guests in 14 new Supberbs and 36 ŠKODA Octavia estates. Especially for the occasion, the cars are going to be painted in the national colours of white, red and blue. They are also individually ‘branded’ with the names of Czech and Czechoslovakian ice hockey legends, like Jiří Holeček, Ivan Hlinka, Dominik Hašek and Jaromír Jágr. The shuttle cars will be used primarily for transporting people between the two arenas, the airport, hotels and other destinations.

ŠKODA has a long-standing tradition of taking IIHF WM officials and guests from A to B. The fleet of between 40 and 50 vehicles have covered around six million kilometres over the past 23 years at world championship events without ever breaking down even once.  On average, the ŠKODA fleets travels almost 250,000 kilometres at each world championships.

In addition to providing the fleet of vehicles, ŠKODA will be an ever-present icon in Prague and Ostrava. A further 20 vehicles will be presented at the World Championship arenas.

ŠKODA’s logo will be positioned in eye-catching places on the surface of the ice and around the stands. Additionally, three international teams will be darting around the rink bearing the ŠKODA logo on their helmets and jerseys: the Czech Republic, Slovakia and USA.

A great way for ice hockey fans around the world to stay ahead of the game is the ‘IIHF app powered by ŠKODA’. The app supported by ŠKODA provides all the information about the championships as in previous years, and is available for free download on Android, iOS, Windows and Blackberry platforms.

› Start: model launch of the third generation in June 2015

Mladá Boleslav/Firenze, April 2015 – The name alone is a commitment: a ŠKODA Superb has to be something special. In accordance with this task, the ŠKODA designers and developers have taken the new ŠKODA Superb to a new level in terms of creativity and technology. The ŠKODA Superb is driving the brand forward with its new, modern and emotionally-rich design, its above-average spaciousness has once again been improved and it benefits technically from Volkswagen Group’s innovative MQB technology. Generous dimensions, innovative assistance systems for safety, environment and comfort, powerful EU6-compliant engines and ‘Simply Clever’ details, typical of ŠKODA, move the brand’s flagship to the upper end of the automotive mid-class segment. In short, the new Superb is the best ŠKODA of all time and is the highlight of ŠKODA’s largest-ever model campaign.

The ‘Superb’ name has to be earned by a ŠKODA. Never before have such enormous demands been placed on the design of a ŠKODA, never before has so much new technology been incorporated into the design of a new model. Never before have there been so many ‘Simply Clever’ concepts and never before have the ŠKODA engineers managed to deliver so much space for driver, passengers and their luggage. A whole ‘phalanx’ of new assistance systems from higher vehicle classes is available for more safety, the environment and comfort. The third-generation Superb is more powerful than ever and yet it is up to 30 per cent more economical thanks to new EU6 engines.

Connectivity attains a new quality: the new ŠKODA Superb has a new-generation infotainment system which automatically connects to a smartphone via SmartLink. SmartLink includes MirrorLinkTM, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, which provide easy access to many apps from your personal smartphone on the car’s display. In addition, the SmartGate function enables accessing vehicle data via your smartphone and using it intelligently with your own apps. The high-speed internet connection also turns the Superb into the first ŠKODA hotspot on wheels. It is clear that the new ŠKODA Superb with its new and modern ŠKODA design will be rolling towards the customers.

“ŠKODA is demonstrating the brand’s new standards in the automotive mid-class segment with the new ŠKODA Superb, its design and technical qualities and its unbeatable space,” said ŠKODA CEO Prof. Dr. h.c. Winfried Vahland. “ŠKODA’s experience and passion from almost 120 years of car making have been incorporated into the development of the third-generation model. The new ŠKODA Superb is impressive evidence of the brand’s engineering and design competence. As an important pillar of our growth strategy, the new ŠKODA Superb points to the brand’s future and will attract new private and business customers to the company. ŠKODA is entering a new era with this car,” said Prof. Dr. Vahland.

The ŠKODA Superb has been at the top of ŠKODA’s model range since 2001. To date, the car manufacturer has delivered more than 700,000 first- and second-generation ŠKODA Superbs, making the model one of the most popular vehicles in the automotive mid-class segment.

Customers have always valued the vehicle’s overall package: extremely generous space, a timelessly elegant design, modern, tried-and-tested technology, top comfort, maximum safety, optimum functionality and very good value for money.

The third-generation model is expected to write another chapter in the ŠKODA Superb’s success story. “With the new ŠKODA Superb, we have developed a car that will wow our customers,” said Dr. Frank Welsch, ŠKODA Board Member for Technical Development. “With its expressive and emotionally-rich design, even more space and comfort, innovative safety technology, top consumption values, sophisticated dynamics and topclass workmanship, the new ŠKODA Superb takes ŠKODA qualities to a new level,” said Dr. Welsch.

A dynamic and elegant design revolution

The ŠKODA Superb’s new design demonstrates the emotional power of the brand. ŠKODA cars have always convinced with a high degree of functionality, reliability and excellent value for money. With the new Superb, ŠKODA is now underlining these qualities with a modern, expressive and emotionally-rich design. The new ŠKODA design language demonstrates assurance, dynamic elegance, balanced proportions and a striking design language. With this, the new ŠKODA Superb brings the exciting design language of the ‘ŠKODA VisionC’ show car into production.

“The completely redeveloped third-generation ŠKODA Superb is an exciting saloon full of spirit, class and passion. It has a powerful, poised yet emotionally-rich appearance. The wheelbase is 80 mm longer and at the same time, the front vehicle overhang is 61 mm shorter than before. This new architecture lends the vehicle elegance and dynamism,” said ŠKODA’s Head of Design Jozef Kabaň. “From the front to the back, from the large wheels to the gently rearward sloping roof line, the new model impresses with clear geometry, striking contoured surfaces, sculptural shapes, purist precision and elegant lines,” said Kabaň. Crystalline elements run in detail through the exterior and interior in equal measures, like a common theme. At the same time, the new Superb offers even more space and improved functional virtues. Form and function combine to create a perfect car.

At first glance, the front conveys strength and self-assurance. The wide grille, the wide and distinctive headlights and the cleanly structured, deeply drawn front-end architecture are all designed for increased optical width. At the same time, the striking front mask with radiator grille and brand logo centrally positioned on the bonnet’s nose focuses the expression on the centre of the vehicle’s front. The bonnet is strongly contoured. Two lines running inwards strengthen the powerful impression.

The new Superb’s side view conveys dynamic elegance. The razor-sharp, high tornado line visually stretches the car and works in combination with additional lighter surfaces to achieve effective contrasts between light and shade. The wing line running underneath it accentuates the effect of the tornado line. The car’s narrow pillars, precise and sharp window line and gently sloping roofline with its elegant transition into the large rear window give the car a coupé-like and high-quality impression. The large wheels and striking wheel arches emphasise its exclusive appearance.

The new ŠKODA Superb’s rear is self-assured and powerful. There is also strong emphasis on the horizontal, and the lines are streamlined and clear. The two-part, broad and narrow taillights shine as standard with LED technology and sharply intensify the C shaped lights that ŠKODA is well known for. At the same time, the taillights benefit from additional brilliance due to crystalline elements. The tailgate’s sharp, horizontal seam gives added spice to the rear.

The completely new interior continues the essential design details of the car’s exterior. This includes the emphasis on horizontal lines, which allow the already extremely spacious interior to appear even more generous and airy. Clear shapes, precise workmanship and the use of new, premium materials lend the interior new quality.

Upgrade – comfort and space in a new dimension

The generous amount of space and the high level of comfort have been some of the ŠKODA Superb’s specific strengths from the very beginning. The third-generation model sets new standards in this respect.

Compared to the already generous space of the previous model, the spaciousness of the new Superb has increased again. The use of MQB has especially contributed to this, enabling a longer wheelbase and wider track and meaning the interior can be used more effectively.

The result is significantly more space in the front and rear. Driver and passenger can enjoy 39 mm more elbow room and more headroom. The space in the rear is almost ‘princely’. Rear legroom (157 mm) is nearly twice as much as the nearest competitor and headroom (980 mm) is more than in any other model in the segment. Elbow room in the rear has increased by 69 mm. The boot capacity is a record in the segment: at 625 litres, it is 30 litres bigger than in the second-generation Superb.

With an array of completely new comfort solutions, the new ŠKODA flagship fulfils the highest demands. The new ŠKODA Superb is the brand’s first model to offer Dynamic Chassis Control (DCC) including Driving Mode Select. Completely new air conditioning, including for the first time, the new top-version three-zone air conditioning, ensures an optimal temperature and the best air quality on board. The new ŠKODA Superb is available with an optional electric panoramic glass roof for more comfort and a feel-good factor in the interior. For the colder times of the year, there are auxiliary heating, heated seats (front and rear), a wireless heated windscreen and heated washer jets. The rain/light sensor automatically switches the windscreen wipers on and off and automatically switches between daytime running light and dipped beam depending on light conditions.

ŠKODA further improved the umbrella comfort feature in the side door. Instead of one umbrella in the rear left-hand door, there is now an umbrella in each of the two front doors. The new electric tailgate can be complemented with a virtual pedal. This is particularly convenient, as it enables the boot to be opened by moving the foot in the area of the rear bumper. The electric tailgate and virtual pedal work in combination with the KESSY automatic locking and starting system.

Driving in and out of parking spaces will be more convenient than ever before in the new ŠKODA Superb. The model has the newest generation of Park Assist for automatic parking. Furthermore, the ŠKODA flagship has a rear-view camera for the first time. The classic handbrake has been replaced with a standard electric parking brake in the new Superb.

Connectivity at its best

The topic of connectivity makes its entrance in the third edition of the new ŠKODA Superb. In total, there are four completely new infotainment systems based on Volkswagen Group’s modular infotainment matrix technology (MIB). Compared to before, the new generation of equipment is much faster, with consistently high-resolution touchscreen displays and offering more functions and new interfaces.

The top-of-the-range Columbus system has the option of integrated high-speed internet access based on the LTE standard. This is a first for ŠKODA.

The ŠKODA Superb can be connected to a smartphone for the first time and selected apps can be operated from the infotainment system’s screen. SmartLink includes MirrorLinkTM, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto (availability of Android Auto and Apple CarPlay may vary depending on country).

The SmartGate interface, developed by ŠKODA, allows certain vehicle data to be accessed on the user’s own smartphone apps.

The new ŠKODA Media Command app allows the infotainment system to be controlled remotely from the rear seats for the first time. Passengers sitting in the rear of the car can access its functions via their tablet using the new ŠKODA app and Wi-Fi hotspot built into the Columbus infotainment system.

The 12-speaker Canton sound system with its 610 W output turns the new ŠKODA Superb into a concert hall on wheels.

Simply Clever in a new dimension

The new ŠKODA Superb is the cleverest ŠKODA ever. 29 ‘Simply Clever’ features make life easier for driver and passengers. 23 solutions appear in the Superb for the first time, ten of which are completely new features for the brand.

Alongside both umbrellas in the front doors and new options relating to connectivity and comfort, the following new and incredibly practical ‘Simply Clever’ solutions are available: a manually retractable towing device, a tablet holder in the rear, a tablet storage compartment in the Jumbo Box in the front, a USB port and 230 V socket in the rear, single-handed opening for a 0.5-litre bottle and an extra hi-vis vest storage compartment in all four doors. Both of the front and rear doors have space to store a 1.5-litre bottle. The interior’s versatility is increased by the option to fold down the back seats from the boot. The passenger seat can also be folded down. New cargo fasteners secure loose objects in the boot. The Superb now comes with an ice scraper in the fuel filler flap as standard. In addition, there are new storage nets on the inside edges of the front seats, a removable LED torch in the boot and misfuel protection.

Highest efficiency

The new ŠKODA Superb’s new engines offer a maximum of up to 30 per cent lower consumption values and emissions. The ŠKODA Superb GreenLine, consumes just 3.7 l/100 km and emits 95 g CO2 per km. Alongside innovative engine technology, the reduction in vehicle weight of up to 75 kg and the improved aerodynamics also contribute to the low consumption values.

The combination of a performance that is increased by up to 20 per cent, reduced air resistance and a reduction in weight also leads to impressive driving dynamics.

The new ŠKODA Superb has modern, direct-injection turbocharged engines based on MQB technology (five TSI petrol, three TDI common-rail diesel). All powertrains meet the EU6 emission standards and come with stop-start technology and brake energy recovery as standard. The petrol engines produce between 92 kW (125 PS) and 206 kW (280 PS). The power output of the diesel engines ranges from 88 kW (120 PS) to 140 kW (190 PS).

With the exception of the entry-level petrol engine, all powertrains are available with dual-clutch transmissions. Four powertrains (1.4 TSI/110 kW, 2.0 TSI/206 kW, 2.0 TDI/110 kW and 2.0 TDI/140 kW) are available with state-of-the-art all-wheel drive based on the Haldex 5 clutch.

Safety without compromises

The new ŠKODA Superb wows with a level of safety that has not previously been seen as standard for vehicles in this segment. The new Superb is fitted as standard with Electronic Stability Control including Multi-Collision Brake. In EU countries, the following safety features are fitted as standard: Front Assist with City Emergency Brake, electronic Tyre Pressure Monitoring, seven airbags, five three-point automatic seat belts with fastening alerts as well as safety headrests. Rear side airbags are available as an option. XDS+, an enhanced function of the electronic differential lock, also comes as standard. Speedlimiter is available as standard from the Ambition trim line upwards.

Innovative optional assistance systems are also available. At a pre-set speed, Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) keeps the vehicle at a safe distance from the vehicle ahead. With the enhanced Crew Protect Assist, driver and passenger are ‘prepared’ for an impending collision. Lane Assist helps the vehicle stay in lane on motorways and country roads. Traffic Jam Assist, a first for the model and brand, increases safety and comfort in traffic and during stop-and-go. The new Emergency Assist intervenes if the driver becomes incapable of driving, automatically bringing the vehicle to a standstill.

The completely new Blind Spot Detect system supports the driver in changing lanes safely by detecting any vehicles in the blind spot. A key component of Blind Spot Detect is the Rear Traffic Alert function, a first for the model and brand. Driver Alert (fatigue detection) prevents the driver from becoming overtired. Travel Assist with Traffic Sign Recognition, available for the first time in the ŠKODA Superb, continually informs the driver of upcoming road signs.

Innovative lighting systems significantly increase safety at night. The front headlights are fitted with halogen technology or with bi-xenon lamps including AFS function and LED daytime running lights. As an option, the high beam can be controlled electronically – via Light Assist or the advanced Smart Light Assist function (masked high beam). Striking LED lights shine at the rear of the new Superb as standard and there are also two reflectors on both sides of the rear bumper.

The new Superb’s completely redeveloped chassis with MacPherson front struts and multi-link rear axle offers maximum ride stability in challenging situations.

Chinese journalists on the road in vintage ŠKODAs

› Six representatives of the prestigious Chinese media take part in the 7 Castles Rally in Prague driving ŠKODA classic cars
› Classic cars draw huge crowds in China

Mladá Boleslav, 27 April 2015 – Taking part in the fantastic vintage car rally, visiting the ŠKODA museum, touring Prague’s historic Rudolfinum building, and experiencing the home of the Czech Philharmonic – the group of Chinese journalists had an action-packed visit to ŠKODA AUTO.

ŠKODA is one of the longest-established automotive companies in the world. ŠKODA’s roots are in the heart of Europe – an industrial region with a great tradition of craftsmanship and engineering. With a number of legendary automotive brands that originated in the early days of the automobile in Bohemia, this is where the origins of the automobile lie. Václav Laurin and Václav Klement, the company’s founding fathers, were pioneers in the world of motorized mobility, and thus the modern era of the car.

This makes ŠKODA one of the pioneering brands in the automotive industry. Established in 1895, the brand’s expertise today is based on 120 years of tradition and experience in vehicle construction, the craftsmanship and engineering expertise of the Czech industry, and the knowledge and experience of an excellent team.  In addition, the brand has been able to rely on the capabilities and performance of the Volkswagen Group since 1991.
Alongside ŠKODA, the representatives of Chinese magazines and consumer websites were immersed in the history of the country and automobile during the 7 Castles Rally in and around Prague.

The ŠKODA Felicia, ŠKODA 1000 MB Rally, ŠKODA 645, ŠKODA 1101 ‘Tudor’ and ŠKODA 440 ‘Spartak’ started in the race.

Taking part in the vintage car rally was a further step in popularizing classic cars among the Chinese public, and an interactive journey through ŠKODA’s marvellous 120-year history. “In China, classic cars are becoming increasingly popular with our readers – both among hard-core automobile enthusiasts and fans of the brand, and those looking to invest in something more out of the ordinary. “It was fascinating being able to test drive these fantastic automobiles from ŠKODA’s long history; it was a completely new experience for us,” says Ge Li, the lady representing China Business Journal. The visit to the ŠKODA Museum in Mladá Boleslav was also met with keen interest. This included the special exhibition dedicated to the latest generation ŠKODA Superb and its predecessors. As part of the Czech carmaker’s sponsorship engagements, the Chinese guests went on a tour around the historic Rudolfinum building – the home of the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra; one of ŠKODA AUTO’s traditional sponsorship partners.

ŠKODA have also sent their classic cars to China where, for example, the Laurin & Klement 300, the ŠKODA Popular Monte Carlo and the Roadster ŠKODA Felicia have been presented to the Chinese public at various events over the last few months.

China is ŠKODA AUTO’s strongest market where the brand plans to sell more than 500,000 vehicles annually. In 2014, the brand’s deliveries increased 24% to a record-breaking 281,400 cars. In the first quarter of this year, ŠKODA’s sales figures increased 15.6%. More than 1.4 million ŠKODA vehicles have been sold in China since 2007. The current range comprises six models. In China, the brand works in close partnership with their local partner Shanghai Volkswagen.

The activities related to the company’s 120th anniversary and the 110-year tradition of car production have made a synergistic contribution to the popularization of ŠKODA cars.

Inspiring safety technology: New ŠKODA Superb with innovative assistance systems for improved safety and comfort

› MQB technology: the new ŠKODA Superb is the brand’s leader in innovation
› For all situations: top technological components for more safety and comfort
› A new era: the new ŠKODA Superb will be launched in the European markets from June

Mladá Boleslav, 27 April 2015 – The new ŠKODA Superb marks the beginning of a new era for the brand. Its outstanding design and technical qualities make the latest flagship the new benchmark in its competitive environment. The huge selection of assistance systems for improved safety and comfort sets new standards for the brand and model.

Based on state-of-the-art MQB technology from Volkswagen Group, the new ŠKODA Superb offers a whole ‘phalanx’ of new assistance systems. The safety systems support the driver in the most diverse traffic situations and make driving safer and more comfortable.
Blind Spot Detect (BSD), new to ŠKODA, warns the driver of any vehicles in the blind spot. Radar sensors monitor the area beside or up to 20 metres behind the ŠKODA Superb. An LED symbol in the wing mirror lights up to draw attention to vehicles next to the car or approaching from behind. If the driver indicates in the direction of the detected vehicle, the LED starts to flash.

A component of Blind Spot Detect is the Rear Traffic Alert function, a first for ŠKODA. When reversing out of parking bays which are at a ninety degree angle to the road, the system recognises vehicles approaching from the sides. An acoustic signal warns of an impending collision. In addition, the ‘critical side’ is shown on the infotainment display. The brakes are automatically applied if necessary.

Traffic Jam Assist is available for this model and for the brand for the first time, providing more safety and comfort in traffic jams and stop-and-go traffic. The car is automatically kept in its lane; braking and acceleration are also self-activating. The driver’s hands must be on the steering wheel for this to work.

The new Emergency Assist celebrates its debut for the model and brand. It intervenes should the driver become incapable of driving. If no steering wheel movement or other driver activity is detected for a certain amount of time, a warning signal sounds. If the driver remains non-reactive, the system initiates a short swerve. If there is still no reaction from the driver, the vehicle is automatically brought to a complete standstill. Additionally, the hazard lights are automatically activated.

Innovative lighting systems guarantee optimum ‘seeing and being seen’ in the new ŠKODA Superb. The new Superb is the first ŠKODA to be available with masked high beam (Smart Light Assist). In darkness, Smart Light Assist detects oncoming traffic and vehicles ahead via the multifunctional camera and automatically dips the high beam specifically in these areas. This means, it is always possible to drive with high beam and take advantage of its long range.

For the first time in a ŠKODA, the new Superb features Dynamic Chassis Control (DCC) including driving mode selection. DCC allows the driver to adjust the vehicle’s driving characteristics to his/her individual preferences: standard, sport or comfort – a sort of ‘à la carte’ chassis setup. The setting is altered using a button in the centre console. Combined with DCC, the driving mode selection also offers an eco and an individual mode.

For the first time, the ŠKODA Superb comes with Multi-Collision Brake as standard. This feature prevents the car from further uncontrolled movement after an initial collision. This reduces the risk of the car drifting into the opposite lane and causing a second collision.

Front Assist with integrated City Emergency Brake is making its model debut in the new ŠKODA Superb. The system warns of a collision at speeds between 5 and 210 km/h and activates automatic partial braking or triggers emergency braking if necessary. The City Emergency Braking Function actively complements Front Assist in urban traffic and at speeds between 5 and 34 km/h.

The new ŠKODA Superb is available with Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) as an optional extra. At a pre-set speed, Front Assist automatically keeps the car at a safe distance from the vehicle ahead. The radar-based ACC uses Cruise Control in combination with distance control and works at speeds between 30 and 210 km/h.

For the first time, the new ŠKODA Superb features proactive occupant protection, Crew Protect Assist. The system prepares the driver and front passenger in advance of an impending collision. In critical situations, e.g. emergency braking, the driver’s and front passenger’s seat belts are automatically pre-tensioned. It also closes the sunroof and side windows (to a residual opening).

The new, optional Lane Assist in the new ŠKODA Superb helps the vehicle stay in lane on motorways and country roads. It reduces the risk of inadvertently leaving the lane. A camera detects lane markings in front of the vehicle from a speed of 65 km/h. When Lane Assist identifies an unintended departure from the lane, the system automatically initiates corrective steering. If no steering action is detected from the driver, a wwarning signal and the message ‘Lane Assist – please take over steering’ are activated.

Speedlimiter, a new function for the ŠKODA Superb, ensures that the preset speed is not exceeded. The driver activates the Speedlimiter with the stalk on the left-hand side of the column. The Speedlimiter deactivates as soon as the driver applies full throttle.

For the first time, the ŠKODA Superb is available with Traffic Sign Recognition to continuously notify the driver of traffic signs. A camera in the rear-view mirror scans the traffic signs on the current stretch of road. They are shown as pictograms in the multifunction display and/or the navigation system display.

The electronic parking brake is equipped with the Auto Hold function. This prevents the vehicle from rolling away when stationary or when pulling away, without the driver having to touch the brakes. Auto Hold therefore provides the highest level of comfort when driving and pulling away, as well as more safety. When the vehicle is brought to a complete stop, two electric motors on the rear wheels slow the vehicle down. The driver can take his/her foot off the brake pedal. As soon as the driver begins to accelerate again and, with manual gearboxes, releases the clutch, the Auto Hold function disengages automatically.

The new Superb is fitted with Driver Alert (fatigue detection) to prevent the driver from becoming overtired. Significant deviation from characteristic steering behaviour indicates driver fatigue. The multifunction display shows the message: ‘Fatigue detected – please take a break’.

The new Superb comes with an electronic tyre pressure monitor as standard in EU countries: air pressure is individually monitored in each tyre and any loss of pressure is displayed.

Manoeuvring in and out of parking spaces is more convenient than ever before in the new ŠKODA Superb. For the first time, the third-generation Superb is available with Park Assist as an optional extra. The system semi-automatically guides the car backwards into parallel parking spaces as well as forwards and backwards into bay parking spaces. Equally, it assists with semi-automatic manoeuvring out of parallel parking spaces. The driver just has to accelerate and brake.
The new surround parking sensors complement the park assist feature perfectly. Special distance control sensors determine the distance of the vehicle from any objects in front or to the rear. An acoustic warning sounds when the distance is too small. The frequency of the warning tone increases as the obstacle gets nearer until a continuous signal sounds. Distance control sensors on the side of the car identify obstacles next to the vehicle. A warning signal sounds when the distance is too short.

For the first time, the new ŠKODA Superb can also be fitted with a rear-view camera. When reverse gear is engaged, the camera is automatically activated and the image is shown on the infotainment system display. Dynamic guide lines are also laid over the image.
